DeadAir: The Maine Paradox.

Dear constant reader,

I have gotten wind from a story up in Maine about an increase of missing persons, most commonly missing kids. I'm heading up there now to investigate.

So far all we know is children, ages 5 to 16 going missing without a trace throughout Derry, Castle Rock, and Ludlow for the majority. Police haven't found hardly any information or leads and are asking for the public's help for anything they can at the moment. If you know anything about the missing children make sure to call the Ludlow police department @ 413-583-8305, or head to my "Tip Hotline" to send me information directly.

there’s something really special about how you write.

it was easy falling into the world you created. your ending didn’t just tie the story together, it gave it weight. something that stays with you after the words are done.

i’d honestly love to write alongside you again sometime. whatever strange places our words end up, i think they’d recognize each other.

your words felt like breathing inside an old, haunted attic. full of ghosts, full of echoes i didn’t realize were still crying out. you stitched your story into mine so seamlessly, it almost felt inevitable. thank you for stepping through the static with me. i would love to ask: when you write, do you see the ending first, or do you chase it like a light you’re afraid might vanish?

To answer your question: it depends on the project!

I only write when I feel inspired, so a lot of the time, I'm chasing an unknown ending (that, unfortunately, often fades away when the inspiration disappears). My addition to your post was actually the first time in a while I thought of the ending first!

I knew I wanted it to loop back to the beginning, and I knew I wanted to add some kind of Silent Hill-style "main character(s) eternally punish themselves" plotline. Once I figured that out, I turned on some ambience and started typing!

(Also, here's something interesting: I was originally going to write it as an attempted murder, not an attempted suicide. I switched to the latter plotline when the well of words started drying up.)
