I am a Graduate student at the University at Albany studying Educational Psychology and Methodology. I also happen to be hard of hearing so a lot of my research is in line with Deaf Studies. This semester I have been diving into psychometrics and I was tasked with creating a survey for a sample of interest - of course my heart went with the Deaf Community.
If you are Deaf/deaf/Hard of Hearing and have less than 5 minutes to spare - can you please take this survey about your experiences: https://albany.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6A0ProDTHRGBS1o?fbclid=IwAR3P1jWNEDDl1M540wzXj3EDeY1grMUm04QRlavf3TVnbZ7u_3mpgcW6q48

I just wish more people had patience for the Deaf and HOH. Please stop getting upset with me for asking you to communicate in a way that isn't verbal. The amount of people who get mad about having to write down or type what they want to tell me instead of speaking is insane. I've had workers in public outright refuse to read what I wrote/typed for them and deny me service. Luckily, for the most part I have someone with me to interpret. It still feels infantilizing though. I'm an adult yet people treat me as though I'm not all because I can't hear.
"Well you should use a hearing aid or get a cochlear implant"
I shouldn't have to in order to receive basic respect.
I don't want to fix my hearing and quite frankly, hearing fatigue is something I despise.

For everyone in the USA with wheelchair fundraisers/can't afford a wheelchair: consider vocational rehabilitation. It's a govt program available in every state, and it IS a massive pain in the ass to go through, but if they do a physical eval and find that you can't keep or start working/going to uni without disability aids, they will pay for it. There's no strings attached either. If you have insurance they'll run it through ins first and then pay the portion that insurance won't pay.
so I've just realised that the hearing community might not be aware of the genius cult film that is Deafula. I watch it every Halloween, but apparently this is not something hearies do.
Do you need to watch a ridiculous cult movie entirely in American sign language about a Deaf vampire and motorbikes? Yes. Yes, you do.
