Hi! Commander ask here! I'm super in love with narset right now I was wondering if you had any spicy unblockable granting tech

I will start with a swerve...

First category I dub "Your creatures can't be blocked if your opponents can't block." While blue is great at making creatures unblockable, red has plenty of decent to good effects that simply remove one or more players' ability to block altogether. Which, in practice, does the same thing. Taunt is generally pretty good because it also means you don't get attacked for an entire turn cycle. Sundering Eruption does four other things and also that, being an untapped land in the manabase. Scarlett can't be recast with Narset, but she's a hasty creature that also draws a card every turn and gives you a free attack on someone, generally good value all around.

If you want Evasion specifically for Narset, Steel of the Godhead is an old classic, but still plenty good. Permabuff for her attack trigger, unblockable, and pads your life total quite nicely. Unquestioned Authority (and Spirit Mantle if you want more of these), just makes your Narset unblockable while also drawing you a card, and giving you a perfect blocker.

Flickering Ward I mention not because it's as perfect a way to get evasion, but it also works great at triggering Prowess again and again and again. Two white mana, get a prowess trigger on your entire team, and shift around the color Narset evades against this turn!

Sometimes, you don't need full unblockability, flying is enough. These two provide that at instant speed, but also another bonus while you're at it. Celestial Armor doubles as a protection spell in case your opponent, for some reason, wants to kill Narset, and Feather of Flight just cantrips along the way.

Embercleave I'll include even if it doesn't make the creature harder to block. It just makes it so blockers don't really matter. There is very little an Embercleave cannot punch straight through.

Angst Recs (get ready for a lot of Wu being sad):

The Tale of the Teacher: BASICALLY a look at Wu's very tragic life through the eyes of Wu himself, and my personal inspiration for all things, well, Wu and tragic (and you do need to be logged into an Ao3 account for this one). A must-read for all Wu fans, and especially for those who are not~

Photographs: Wu reminiscences on all he's lost in the midst of Season 11 through pictures of times gone by~

No Eye For These: Wu reflects on losing his brother, right after just banishing him ;w;

It Will Rain Again Someday: Not necessarily angst but fills me with enough emotional damage to feel like it is, Wu adores his older brother so so so so much, even when they butt heads, even when they have opposing but equal opinions, even when they're on opposite sides of the battle field...probably the most potent Spinjitzu Brothers thing I've ever read. Changed my brain chemistry, man.

for want (for nothing): the staff corrupted!kai story that speaks to me very specifically snksnksnk Reading the gradually (or not so gradually) descent into enveloping himself in all that power is maddening and awesome and so very painful

Cry Me a River: Kai Post-Seabound; short, bitter, visceral, and powerful in the deliverance of emotions~

Married to the Sea: In case anyone wanted to relieve the pain that is Seabound's ending again, but with a Jay-colored coat of paint <3

half hearted-boy, maybe we'll have more connection: GUT-WRENCHING thing on parallels b/w Lloyd and Harumi. I am not the same person i was before. Tragedy does not have an age limit.

Kai Recs:

All I've Ever Known: One of the best kind of fics- Kai having to cope with team bonding during the events of the pilots <3(I have very obvious tastes). But! Has a lot of introspective Kai moments and outrospective (?) moments with him and the future team he's one day never going to imagine a time without.

Spice, and Everything Nice: Kai, in both a show of brotherly love and brotherly pride, attempts to outdo his siblings in a test of all things spice and chocolate. It's just so cute aaaaaaa!!!!

Bonfire: Lloyd wants to make a fire, Zane tries to offer suggestions, and Kai makes it personal. Slice of Life fic that would have made for a nice little episode during Season 2, honestly! And a nice look at the characters outside of their normally hectic settings~

Flicker: A story about Kai and the warmth he brings to himself and others, doesn't seem like much at first but you will be gutpunched by love and softness by the end~

Bucket List: In the category of angst and Kai with probably a guilty pleasure fic of mine, Kai strikes a deal with Morro and a horrifying journey of self-discovery ensues. It get a little dark but it's funny, gripping, heart-wrenching, and will probably have you looking at Kai in a new light by the end of it.

N Stands for Neutral: Kai teaches Lloyd to drive, chaos ensues, nuff said

Why Birds Fly: Probably not for the squeamish around eggs, insects, or ear-related agony (it's not nearly as bad as I'm making it sound I promise just being cautious) BUT another non-life-threatening crisis story that has an amazing dynamic between Kai, Cole and Jay, and their tendency to be both the best brothers you could ask for and the absolute worst.

The Process of Making Amends: Kai and Garmadon butting head and it's goes about as well as you'd expect....but, there is one thing they can reach a consensus on.

Going, Going, Gone: Vintage Classic on kai's take on Skylor throughout Season 4. Definitely Kailor, but also not exactly "shippy". It really is more of a character examination in the form of lil snippets and it lives in my mind rent-free.

From What It Was: Kai reflects on all the changes in the team post-s7. It makes me misty-eyed every time ;w;

Kai and the Futile Fist Fight: Anyone wanna see Kai and Jay have a real fight during Crystalized, with 50% more awesome fight moves and 50% more raw emotion and 100% more Kai being distressed over his sister in his own way? Here ya go!

"Mr. Smith" At Your Service: Kai pretends to be Nya's father. Nya gets far too much of a kick out of it, and it goes about a well as you'd expect snksnksnk

broken pieces: More Pilots!ninja bonding, short and sweet and ofc with a special focus on Kai! Left a very big impression on me, haha

this isn't how it's supposed to be: MOAR PILOT BONDINGGGGGGG and UNGH it's so BEAUTIFUL, especially love the character dialogue in this one!

As a chief stewardess, life can get pretty hectic, but when she meets a very charming and very handsome (and very annoying) bosun on the Andiamo, she quickly realises her season could be about to get very interesting indeed.

I have a Fecund Greenshell deck by way of Phylath, World Sculptor. Do you have some mass higher-toughness token makers (besides Avenger of Zendikar) that I maybe didn't get to?

Sure thing! First is a proper answer to the question, and then some more esoteric ones.

Spider Fog! Nobody expects the Spider Fog, and it happens to create a bunch of 1/2s that trigger Greenshell. The bigger the attack, the more cards drawn... And if it happens to put enough lands into play to make you go over ten lands with Greenshell out, well, all the better.

Glimpse isn't as much a "mass" token maker, but it also is very versatile. Once you've done all your green ramping, it's a three mana draw three, right when you need it. Beforehand, it's a three mana make three 0/1s and also store some mana up for the next turn. Both of these are excellent, and anything in between still is, and it does all of these.

You know what has more toughness than power? Tarmogoyfs! Polygoyfs creates one to two copies of itself each time it attacks for free, and they WILL trigger Greenshell.

But what if we combined the previous two cards? Have Chittering Dispatcher, a 2/3 that creates at least two other 2/3s when it attacks and then another 2 or 3 0/1s as the myriad tokens poof away.

You know what has greater toughness than its power? Fecund Greenshell. What if... More Fecund Greenshells? Calamity does exactly that while also being a creature with higher toughness than power. Since each Greenshell sees two enter, a Calamity saddled with a Greenshell gets you SIX etb triggers of Greenshell, and that's without any other token making.

EDIT: I forgot Calamity creates the tokens sequentially because of the "Repeat this process" wording on it. So the second one doesn't see the first enter, and you'd only get FIVE Greenshell triggers. Clearly trash.

But we can go deeper. Calamity has that pesky "nonlegendary" text, but some other red clones don't have that limitation. They can either copy Greenshell before another spell triggering it and the copy... Or they can simply copy Phylath. It'll legend rule the copy away, or the real one to tuck it back to the command zone for a recast. Either way, welcome to mono-red blink, you just get the etb again!

Hither, Page by Cat Sebastian {4 stars} - "A jaded spy and a shell shocked country doctor team up to solve a murder in postwar England." - I loved this one and this author never disappoints. There's a sequel that's on my list too.

Tic-Tac-Mistletoe by NR Walker {4 stars} - A solid, Hallmark-style holiday romance. It's the first of a series, all set in the same small town in Montana.

Blossom, ep 12-27 - Blossom continues to be a solidly enjoyable watch that I'm loving a lot. This week's highlights were: the "going off to war" goodbye kiss featured in the opening, a big angsty reveal at the end of 26 that made me go back later to find that quote, and my favorite: Dou Zhao dyeing and dressing Song Mo's hair while they talk politics. Couple goals, honestly.

Perfect 10 Liners, ep 8 - The Cute Boy Page plot kinda fizzled, I think? I know it's been a week, but I don't even remember if Arc found out? Or if he knew all along? If not, that seems like an odd conflict to leave for resolution outside of their main storyline episodes, considering how central it was. Especially with the time jump to year two. Overall though, I have loved their storyline. It's been quite funny and sweet by turns and I really love that they took their time getting together.

This show's pacing is very different than I expected, but I like it. I thought it'd have a more defined anthology format, but I love the framing and how the characters that aren't centered are still around having their own storylines. I'm looking forward to what's next.

Star Trek: Lower Decks {finished: 4.5 stars} - It wasn't a perfect season to finish out the series, but it was pretty darn close. The finale was eminently satisfying and I'm super curious to see how/if the events are referenced/utilized in future Star Trek storytelling. (I don't watch every show, so it's entirely likely that's already happened. Picard maybe?)

When the Phone Rings, ep 5-6 - I spent a few minutes recapping the plot to my partner last week and now I have to wait and watch the eps at the end of Sunday so we can watch together because he's hooked too. The plot is ramping up and I am loving yelling at the tv at the end of the night when the credits roll and I'm left with another week-long wait.
