New FEH Forging Bonds Rant

Hey, so, I'm really pissed.

So in Fallen Dedue's forging bonds scenes in FEH, there's this exchange:

Dedue: I will use this power... to end those who threaten His Majesty... I will end Edelgard, the emperor of the Adrestian Empire.

Tormod: That's right... You're from Fodlan...

Sothe: But didn't you and Edelgard go to school together? What happened that you would fight each other to the death?

Dedue: Fate has lead to this. Unfortunately... My strength is not enough to stop Edelgard... However, if I use the power of the Demonic Beast, I can... take her down... with me-urrgh! That is why I use this- Rrraaagh!

The bolded and italicized part is exactly the dumb shit I'm talking about.

The writers (or translators, idk if the JP version writes something different) are fucking ALLERGIC to assigning blame where it's rightfully due.

When the framing is "it sucks that you two have to fight against each other, war is sad, and it's sad that this shit is happening to you", that is an intentional fucking removal of the actions that led to this point.

It's not goddamn ~fate~ or ~destiny~ that caused Dedue and Dimitri to be at odds with Edelgard, it's the fact that Edelgard invaded their fucking land!

This is the same depraved Passive Voice that journalists and reporters use to whitewash atrocities inflicted upon groups they deem not as "worthy" of attention or have implicit bias against.

To compare, it's like, rather than rightfully pointing out that "Racists are being terrible to Black people, so Black people are pushing back", journalists often say "Oh, Black people are just victims of a fate that makes them volatile and bitter towards racists" type shit.

This writing blurs Edelgard's actions and crimes towards the people of other countries and nations, to foist the blame on it being "inevitable" that Fodlan would fall into conflict. After all, why be meaningfully critical of the root issues at play when you can just write conflict off as "you're all victims of fate, so tragic :("

I know it's just one line among hundreds, but fuck this writing, disrespectfully.

cutie alert cutie alert i designed annette a lil dress to wear to the ball :3 tbh i started this entire series specifically because i wanted to draw her in particular in smth poofy and pretty so. HERE SHE ISSSS at long last

so to get ready for the ball i imagine annette and mercedes went on a shopping trip together and dragged ingrid along bc. of course they did lol. and this dress was just like CALLING OUT to annette so hard like you cant even believe. BECAUSE LIKE ITS EXACTLY HER STYLE and it was probably expensive but like once she saw it she just knew she had to have it.

i think she matched the flowers on the dress to one of the flowers she saw in the greenhouse and that’s the one she has in her hair. when felix saw the finished look after everyone got ready in sylvain’s room he got all like 😳😳😳 you look good,,,, and so annette gve him a flower to wear in his hair to match her and so he did and it was super cute :3

i think annette is definitely used to balls since she grew up in fhirdiad and her father was so entrenched with the royal family. she loves the whole affair she loves dressing up and dancing and meeting people and it’s just a fun time. it’s bittersweet for her because this is the first ball she’s been to without being able to share a dance with her father (he didn’t attend, too busy wallowing in misery), but also her first one spent as a proper young lady instead of being at the “kids’ table” so to speak.

also im not sure where else to put this so i’ll just add it here: there’s no way that annette didn’t meet dimitri at LEAST once as a child. surely gilbert brought her along AT LEAST ONCE so she could see what her papa was up to all the time, ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE WAS AROUND THE PRINCE’S AGE. i just think the cutesy sibling dynamic that dimitri and annette couldve had is so so good and i wish they actually would’ve gotten to have it because both of them being only children and annette’s father just choosing to parent dimitri instead of his own daughter is so saddddddd agh fuck gilbert.

updated lineup, ONLY ONE LION LEFT!!!!! sadly it happens to be my least favorite one (and my least favorite character in the entire game) but i’ll try to keep the ingrid hate in that post to a minimum. wish me luck lmao

~ ~ Dauntless Beast - Fallen Dedue ~

I'd like to talk about how great Dedue is. I've defended him slot from the racist writers and fans but i haven't taken the time out if my day to praise the characters i defend so I'd like to recitify that.

Dedue is a kind and strong man that values his friends.

He's shown to be kind and patient to scatterbrained students like Annette and Flayn, he knows how to be sincere and critical of other people's failures like how he told that Flayn did fail at cooking but that he felt the care she put into it nonetheless, he doesn't stop cause his students fail and in fact keeps supporting them.

He waits for Ashe to get back from a scouting mission and saves some food for him and sympathizes with Ashe regarding the loss of their family and their shared interpretation of the afterlife. He helps cheer up orphans that lost their parents by making beautiful flower crowns with them, a skill he learned from his sister.

His hobbies also include soothing and supportive professions that make other people happy such as cooking, gardening, sowing and making flower crowns. And he loves sharing about Duscur and it's history, culture and environment to anyone that genuinely shows interest and is happy to other people respect Duscur. One of his main dreams is to see Duscur fully restored and for his friends to visit and witness it's beauty.

He's also incredibly smart and studious. He learned the language of Fodlan so we'll that he speaks like a native, he knows a lot about Fodlan's history and other houses like how he's well acquainted with the history behind arianrhod and the demise of House Martritz. In his support with Gilbert it's revealed he's well versed in strategy and combat because he worked hard to follow in Gustave's footsteps in order to protect his friends in his. And on top of that he's willing to be a teacher to anyone that asks for his help whether it's to skills pertaining to the battlefield or outside of it. In Hopes it's revealed he works much harder than the average person cause he wants to make up for his inability to wield a heroes relic.

Even with his immense kindness he's also capable of being harsh when he needs to be and isn't afraid of anyone regardless of their station. He's willing to retaliate to Felix for angering him, let's Sylvain know he would've gotten folded for trying to hit on his sister, he openly says how much he hates the king regent and he calls out Gustave's self pitying and prayer empty and unproductive to everyone including the people he lost. In Hopes hes shown to even chastise Dimitri for making wrong decisions and gets into heated arguments with Felix and he's rightfully resentful towards the church for their mistreatment of Dedue at the Monestary and their complicity in Duscur's oppression. The church members have done nothing but he antagonistic towards him when he wants nothing but to help them out during the assassination plot and Flayn's kidnapping.

While he's able to be vulnerable and have deep discussions with his close friends he is a man that likes to keep conversations short and sweet and keeps to himself, hence why he can easily befriend Shamir despite their differences. But despite that he is willing to go out of his comfort zone and stand up for Sylvain from getting slandered.

Dedue is great and he's one of my favorite 3h characters even despite the offensive writing decision that unfortunately plague an excellent character. Doesn't mean i ignore these problems, let alone deny it. It simply means i like him critically.
