as soon as he wants a kiss, his skin will heat up, and there’ll be a very obvious blush dusted on his face

izuku’s only worried about what to say, and the total approach. worried that he’ll come off as a total creep, and that he’ll scare you away. basically, he’s thinking about every single possibility of things going south. just thinking about it gives him a rather extreme case of butterflies in his stomach, the freckled boy doesn’t know how to convert his wants into words

lucky for him, you’ve noticed. he’s been pacing back and forth near your place for five minutes straight, and his terrible attempt at sneaking subtle glances at you only make his cheeks turn redder.

he’s totally embarrassed that he was standing around, staring into who knows what for the longest time, but he’s glad that you’ve noticed. at least he has his decent share of kisses now!

shotō todoroki

— BLUNTNESS

shotō’s incredibly blunt, and i mean that with all of my heart. he doesn’t really have an idea on how to dial down his bluntness, i mean.. no one has tried to socially correct him until his first year at UA. but, i may say that his bluntness does comes in handy at times.

he’ll tell you what he wants the moment you’re free of any sort of conversation, pointing at his lips with a certain look on his face. it’s practically a telltale of what he wants at that exact moment, and shotō won’t allow you to leave until you do plant a kiss on his lips. it fills him with satisfaction.

or, he might as well just say it, “give me a kiss first before you go,” “may i have a kiss?” “y/n, i want a kiss.”

he has no restrain so, you probably have to start getting used to it. it might look like he’s not the type to outwardly say stuff like that, but you’ll never know what to expect with shotō todoroki. you actually find it quite endearing

katsuki bakugō

— DEMANDS

well.. sorta. he really hates having to say the exact words that would have you all over him in a second, just because he can’t imagine himself living another day if he said ‘give me a kiss’

katsuki will stand infront of you, his eyes narrowing into slits, his glare’s intense. this action might’ve scared any other person away, anyone that wasn’t you anyway, but it only drew you closer. this action alone was actually really layered he only rolls his eyes when you ask him what he wants “you know what i want.”

he hates it when you ask him to say the ‘magic’ words. but in reality, that’s the only way he could get kisses pressed all over his faces until he’s satisfied.

but eventually, you decide to drop the entire teasing act, giving in what he wants without a thorough interrogation. but you must say, katsuki asking for kisses non-verbally is quite the sight. it’s new, compared to his usual self.

hitoshi shinsō

— BODY LANGUAGE

oo okay, let me explain. you know that thing where someone would lick their lips if they wanted a kiss? he’ll do EXACTLY that.

hitoshi’s great with speaking with body language, and his eyes too. one glance from hitoshi will have you hauled into another room for some sweet kisses. you’d assume that it was some sort of convenient attribute to his quirk but.. nope. it’s just hitoshi shinsō being an absolute magician. his actions managed to get you all flustered jadjsmdk

he’ll also do this thing where he runs the back of his hand along your back, whispering your ear in a very collected manner, even though his heart beat might say otherwise “you know what to do,”

hitoshi will rarely express what he wants verbally, because his body language and eyes speak a thousand words. but if you literally can’t get the hint, he’ll just say it upfront.

denki kaminari

— CHEESY PUNS

let me just get one thing straight, denki gets SO nervous just thinking about kissing you. i mean, it’s not in midoriya’s way for sure, but the idea alone is a total dream to him. however, he doesn’t know what to say in the moment? so, he says all of these puns he found online he’s not so suave

“kiss me if i’m wrong, but do i have a water quirk?” “i can’t taste my lips, would you do the honors?” “i heard kissing is a language of love so.. would you like to have a conversation with me?” PLEASE HELP, he’s nervous. he’s basically spouting out the first thing that comes into his mind. you’d think that he wouldn’t be nervous, but when he’s in an actual relationship with a HOT ASF PERSON, then he’s going to be nervous

he doesn’t look nervous sure, but it’s the way his hands start shaking, it’s a sign that he doesn’t want to mess up with asking for something like kisses. but don’t worry, he does become a natural.

“kissing is th—” “okay, denki. come over here.” and he does gradually get less and less nervous about asking you. however, it’s his thing to ask kisses with those ‘lame’ puns of his. it’s endearing. and you’d assume that there was something wrong if he didn’t start things out with a ‘lame’ joke. it’s his trademark!

he’ll scoff and pretend that he doesn’t know what you’re talking about, even though he knows very well that he’s doing it as an excuse to get kisses from you, without saying the magic words ™️ bug him about it though, and you might get him to oblige. considering how you have him wrapped around your finger

eijirō kirishima

the only one that actually asks you out right, stretching his arms out to you “kiss!” he smiles, ushering you closer.

at first, he tried to signal you by taking kaminari’s advice (which was a horrible choice) and that was using body language. eijirō tried this method, and he ended up licking his lips a little too much to the point that you decided to buy him a tube of lipbalm. the explaining bit wasn’t so fun. so, eijirō decided to not follow kaminari’s advice, and chose to follow his own ways instead, a way that a lot more natural to him.

it’s quite adorable, i mean.. how could you not drop everything and give him a kiss when he stretches his arms out to you, the expression on his face pulling you closer for him to garner kisses from his loved one <3

shes kinda shy about those things

so she usually just focuses on you and only you 

she never really thought about meeting your parents until the squad (mainly denki and mina) asked about it

i dont think he really cares about meeting your parents 

not that he doesnt care about your parents

no hes sure that they are lovely people 

its just that shinsou is a litlte anti social as it is and likes to keep meeting new people to a minimum 

but monoma kinda bugs him on it 

egging him on to take initiative in your relationship for once and make a big step for the both of you 

so one day, shinsou walks up to you begrudgingly with monoma hiding behind a wall nearby 

(this is exactly what it looked like when monoma forced shinsou to gain the courage to ask you out)

you kinda laugh at how he asked it so weirdly

todoorki’s had his fair share of experience when it comes to parents 

so hes not entirely eager to meet your parents 

but he does think about it every now and then 

for sure not everyone is going to be like his father 

but hes got quite a foul mouth and no brain to mouth filter when he does speak 

but he knows respect 

just dont cross his line 

he doesnt really bring up meeting your parents for a while 

iida had asked about it once since it was a formal thing to do when gaining a significant other 

todoroki simply shrugged and said he’ll think about it 

and he did think about it 

later that day after training he approached you, pulling on your arm to bring you closer to him

An estimation and analysis of Beomgyu's chart

firstable....... beomgyu has so many sun aspects. and his big 3 (his sun, his moon, and his rising) are water signs. So by default, this means he’s most likely sun dominant, and water dominant. These feel like 2 totally opposite ends of a spectrum lol... so I’m assuming his emotions are really all over the place. But! Being sun dominant means he’s very bright and energetic as a person, very cheery, and just so <3. And water dominant ppl (in my opinion) make the best domestic lovers. Best at cheering up his partner in literally every aspect, and when he says “I’m txt’s energizer” he means that shit quite literally lol

-sun in pisces, moon in scorpio. I bet he can pick up on another person’s tastes very quickly, so he’s most likely going to know you and your body like the back of his hand through your body language. Both pisces and scorpios are pretty intuitive signs. He’s most likely placing a lot of emotion into it when he gets intimate, so he doesn’t just do it with anyone. That person’s gotta be special. He places a lot of emotional value and intimacy into sex. Also a major sub. probably into roleplaying and the thought of being /yours/ so whoever has him better mark him up good.

-cancer rising. Beomgyu is bout the prettiest and softest boy i done seen he gotta be a cancer rising. With his venus square his ascendant, it’s probably super important for him to make good impressions. That being said, he needs a lot of praise and he probably has a praise kink. He most likely is really into being called baby boy, he probably lives for affection when you two get it on, and he reaalllyy appreciates a gentle voice just telling him what a good job he’s doing on someone. -Mercury in Aquarius in the 8th house. He thinks it’s important that you tell him if you find anything wrong with what he’s doing, and vice versa. Self love is also an issue for him so make sure to tell him how nice he looks!!! -Mars in sag in the 6th house. I know yall thinking about his size... He’s an average size. His mars is close to scorpio and his pluto but it’s completely opposite jupiter. Mars in sag makes him naturally athletic so the stamina is high. He’s really just a ball of energy omg :’) He’s also really spontaneous and is one of those guys who will surprise you. And dare i say we have another bratty bottom lol.... He’ll be the type to just say whatever to his partner just to rile them up just so he could get someone to put it down on him once he’s truly comfortable with a partner. an even bigger brat than soobin. demanding when he feels confident, but not in a mean way he probably just asks for you to do more to him. Expressive and a bit loud in bed, and he probably likes angry sex but not where he’s in a position of control. If you ask him to dom in that situation he wont be that harsh but he can sure look the part, if that makes any sense.

-Jupiter in gemini in 11th house. His jupiter is opposite his pallas. I’m gonna try and say this in the nicest way possible, but beomgyu is a bit of an airhead alfhanlska and he most likely doesnt get subtle hints. You’ll most likely have to be specific with him and explicitly tell him what you want. that’s probably why once he gets comfortable with someone, he takes communication seriously. He’s also a bit of a romantic!! that’s so cute :(( loves to be social.

-saturn in taurus in the 11th house. Not very impulsive at all. takes a lot of time making moves and if he brings something up that he likes/dislikes, he’s most likely thought about it through and through. Than being said, he probably really doesn’t like being judged about things and really doesn’t appreciate being kink shamed!! He’s also the type of person to be friends with you before he becomes your lover. 

-neptune in aquarius in the 8th house. very loyal and does not like to be controlled, so if anyone doms him they cant /dom/ him.... idk how else to put it. like you have to be very nice to him and make him feel safe, dont make him feel like a belonging, just like make him feel special. also i dont think he’s completely straight either given that neptune is in his 8th

Im sorry ive never sent a request lol. Could you do one with Nahara Satrinava where the reader was attacked on their way back home or something. they make it back home but as they are trying to treat their wounds Nahara pays her a visit and nahara takes care of her and its super fluffy. Nahara was surprised you went straight to your room without saying hello to anyone - you even missed afternoon tea with her and her sisters. You normally attended unless you were busy, so the thought of you in your room alone, avoiding everyone was worrying.

Of course, she respected your privacy, and knew that you might just not be in the mood for people, or you might be practicing something. She knew this, but it didn’t stop her from wanting to make sure you were alright.

What she didn’t expect when she went to your room was to find you treating wounds on your arms, and a gash on your stomach.

You hadn’t seen it coming - the mugger stepping out from the shadows and pressing a dagger to your throat. You were ready to give up the meager amount of coin you had on you, but as you stepped away - knife no longer near your neck, as the man was seemingly pleased with the small score - he demanded to see what was in your other pocket. your tarot deck. That was the last thing on the planet you would give up.

You tried to say that it was just cards, that he couldn’t sell them for much, but he insisted, and then lunged. You were ready, but that doesn’t mean you got away without a few nicks. You got a good spell off before he could do much. The man was passed out next to on the cobbled street. You tied him up, took your coin back, and called the nearest guard. Apparently, the guy was a well-known repeat offender.

You stumbled to the palace instead of your shop - it was closer. You weren’t bleeding heavily, the cuts were shallow enough, but they still hurt like a son-of-bitch. It wasn’t until you were safely in your room that you realized they weren’t responding to your healing magic. Stupid knife must’ve been enchanted - how’d that bastard get ahold of that?

So you set about trying to fix it yourself, remembering through hazy memories how to treat wounds with alcohol and gauze. 

A knock came at your door - it was Nahara. You had missed tea. You sighed and let her in, knowing she wouldn’t like that you didn’t go to her for help, but realizing it was probably better to have someone else wrap your wounds.

She was, as you predicted, upset. It wasn’t obvious, but the tightness in her stance and crease in her brow told you all you needed to.

She started with the wound on your abdomen, gently peeling your shirt up so she could see it. You shivered at her touch, still not used to her affection, even after month s together. She pursed her lips as she wrapped. “I’m not mad at you, I’m just mad I wasn’t there to protect you.” She paused, tying the fabric so it wouldn’t move. “But I am proud you taught that thief a lesson,” She smiled at you, a hint of mischief in her eyes. “It seems our time training hasn’t been a total waste of time. I’m glad you actually learned a thing or two between distractions.”

You blushed at that. Those ‘distractions’ had been more your fault than hers, but what can you do? Nahara looked very good when using a spear. Or doing anything, really. Could you blame yourself for wanting to kiss her at all times, even when she’s trying to teach you?

She kissed each spot on your arms when she wrapped and tied them, sealing the wraps with a kiss like love letters. In a way, you thought, they were.

She kissed your forehead when she was done, looking at you fondly. “I know you can handle yourself - but next time, please know when to ask for help. You are no less capable if you do.”

You smile, sheepish. She was right, you knew it, but that didn’t help you stubborn instincts to fix your problems by yourself - even if help would make it easier. You put your hand on the back of Nahara’s neck and kissed her, her lips chapped but pliable under yours. When you pulled away you looked at her with a promise in your eyes. “I’ll try, okay? I’ll ask when I need it.”

She smiles and gives you a peck, strong arms wrapped around you and making you feel small - but that’s okay, you felt safe there, and warm. “That’s all I’m asking, love.”

Belief and Persuasion- Chapter 2

hey folks! i’ve been working on a little batim prequel fanfic for a while n its finally done! its a little long, so im dividing it in 8 chapters total!

summary:

Joey Drew gives an interview about how he managed to build his empire, and focuses on the two things needed most: belief and persuasion, the latter of which is trickier. As he talks about his philosophy, we can see examples of his influence at work.

This chapter: Joey discovers a secret his creation and a certain musician have been hiding from him.

(note: when Bendy “speaks” in this fanfiction, it’s not that he is actually speaking, but rather whistling, and everyone can just understand him, hence the parenthesis. It’s an old silly little trope, but I like it.)

"But I imagine, you also need persistence, right sir?" The interviewer now had his eyes glued to the paper, trying to avoid Joey's gaze.

"Oh, you absolutely do. You need to understand, people don't change their minds from day to night." Joey nodded to himself. "You've got to plant those ideas carefully in their brains, and let them bloom, and grow taller than the ones they had before."

"Now where'd that little demon run off to?" Joey drove hurriedly along the studio, carelessly looking around, mind swirling in thoughts. He needed to talk to Bendy for his opinions on the last cartoon, but couldn't find him anywhere.

Lost in thought, he didn't even notice as he barged straight into Norman Polk, yanking a surprise cry from the man, as he fell from the shock.

"Oh, Norman, sorry, didn't see you there-" He tried to dismiss the mishap and get back to his way quickly, but as he did, Norman got up fast, and grabbed his arm.

"Now, just wait a minute, Mr. Joey, I've been meaning to talk to you about this, and I've been specifically looking for you. This has got to stop!" Norman seemed largely stressed.

"What- what has got to stop?" Joey raised an eyebrow.

"This- that- whatever Sammy's doing! Bah! He'll just barge in whenever he wants now and do the weirdest things I've ever seen, and he won't come out for hours sometimes!" Norman went on, gesturing wildly, visibly he had had to put up with that too many times.

"Wait- for how long has this been going on?" Joey squinted; he thought he knew where this could be going.

"Oh, I don't know, for about, two, three weeks. Why?" Norman shrugged.

Joey whispered under his breath, trying to count back the days. He widened his eyes as he remembered that had been exactly the day Bendy had asked permission to spend more time with the employees, including Sammy in specific. In fact, Bendy favored Sammy, most likely due to their musical connection.

"I'll talk to him right now." Joey started rushing to the music department, forgetting even about Norman.

"Well, uh, thank you!" Norman yelled to his boss, who was now already far off in the distance. "Gee, what's gotten into him?"

Meanwhile, a little cartoon demon giggled and whistled, all cuddled up in the arms of Joey Drew Studio's famous musician, Sammy Lawrence.

"(Oh you were great! You're becoming a top prankster, Sammy!)" Bendy whistled in between giggles.

"Ahah, you're right, you should've seen his face, Bendy, he got all red, oh, that Wally can't even keep his head in place!" Sammy nearly sobbed as he laughed, feeling warm not only from the good feeling of doing a successful prank and impressing Bendy, but simply just by having the little toon devil in his arms.

"(Wait.)" Bendy whistled, suddenly halting his giggles in a scarily sudden way. He moved his head around. "(Someone's here.)"

Sammy attuned his ears. It was true, he could hear the sound of something turning all around the recording studio, just outside of their hiding place. Sammy flinched, grasping the demon close to him. Had they been found out?

"It's... it's ok, Bendy. Whoever it is, can't possibly know our secret." He tried comforting Bendy, winking at him.

Bendy gave out a little giggle again. "(That's true!)"

The two spent a little while in anticipation, waiting for the sounds to disappear, but as soon as they did, they came back again. And this time, they were methodical, hurried. They heard the projector turn on, and Bendy shivered and flinched in Sammy's grasp, only for the musician to shush him and pet his back. The sound of the instruments was heard and...

"Hello boys, fancy seeing you here." Joey rolled in as the door opened.

Sammy held his breath in, unsure of how to react. Bendy jumped out of his arms.

"(I can explain!)" He whistled desperately.

"How... how did you get in?" Sammy finally managed to say, he ran his fingers through his hair, not daring to look at Joey's smug grin.

"Oh, simple. Just took a couple of hints from Norman and listened to some of your tapes in your office. Oh, that reminds me. You're my employee. I'm your boss. What are you doing hiding secrets from me?" He maintained his grin, this time sadistic, demanding.

Sammy gulped down. He knew he was in trouble. "Well, you see, sir-"

"(It was my fault!)" Bendy interrupted, catching their attention as they turned to look at him. "(I saw Sammy didn't like his office because of the pipes, so I made him this place! Please don't be mad, I know you're going to be mad, but please.)"

Joey's smile turned into a mellower, understanding one, though with a hidden layer of malicious mockery hidden below it. He reached to pet the ink demon's horns. "Aw, Bendy, of course, I know you only have the best interest of your friends in the studio. But you should have asked me before doing this, shouldn't you?"

"(I- Yes, Mr. Joey.)" Bendy looked down, whistling low.

"Now, now, it's just Joey for you, Bendy." Joey bopped his creation's face. Then, he turned back to Sammy. "Now, as for you, Samuel, shame on you! Using such a giving, caring little demon for your interests."

"(Wait- but he didn't-)" Bendy tried coming to Sammy's defense, but Joey shushed him.

"Now, Bendy, stay out of this. As for you, Sammy, I will make sure we get this little 'sanctuary' of yours emptied out-" He glared at the chairs, music instruments, papers full of doodles and other knick knacks the pair had gathered there. "-and closed up. Permanently."

"But- Yes, Mr. Drew." Sammy tried to protest as well, but he realized he was at a disadvantage.

"Good. I'm being merciful on you, Samuel. But you can bet we will talk about this situation again in the future. And you better empty out now and let the band have their studio again." Joey nodded and grabbed Bendy by the arm, pulling him out of the room.

  Here’s an excellent explanation for the quote within the context of the play by Shelley Chen from Quora:

The quote comes from Lady Windermere’s Fan, a play Oscar Wilde wrote early on in his career. It takes on a quite a different meaning from the other answers when you look at it in context.

The speaker is Lord Darlington, variously described by other characters as “thoroughly depraved”, “trivial”, and “a charming, wicked creature”. He confessed his love to Lady Windermere, a married woman, on the terrace of a ballroom.

Now, Lady Windermere is no ordinary pretty little thing. She has a reputation for an unflinchingly moral outlook on life, in an age where life is looked up as a speculation. When she rejects him, Lord Darlington is heartbroken and angry and anguished and he leaves on the ending violin trills of the waltz. Thus the ball ends. The carriages are called. Cloaks are draped around the shoulders of lady guests.

The men decide to go for the Victorian version of an after-party, taking several stops through various gentlemen’s clubs, until they call on Lord Darlington and demand a game of cards. During the card game, the conversation turns to good women and bad men, a recurrent theme in Wilde’s works.

Lord Darlington. No, we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

To me, the quote is inexorably colored by the conversation and Darlington’s rejected love. It draws up irresistible imagery and symbolism from juxtaposition of “gutter” and “stars”. It reflects not only what Darlington thinks of the distance between himself and Lady Windermere, but also how unreachable and untouchable Lady Windermere is to his mind. The chasm between them is as wide as that between heaven and mud. They move in different worlds (or atmospheres if you want to be technical).

The metaphor reveals the ideals that she represent to him. Think of the connotations of “stars”. Pristine, divine, unattainable, constant, beautiful, poetic. The North Star is known as unmoving and unchanged (just see how Shakespeare used it!). The Southern Cross guides sailors and aviators. Consider the wistfulness of that image, of someone lying in the gutter, but gazing up at the bright star in heaven.

It’s an extremely poetic expression, it never fails to give me the shivers in a performance. And I think we can all relate to it at some level. Haven’t all of us longed, hungered, ached, or dreamt for something we believed to be out of reach? In Lord Darlington’s case, he not only believes “the star” is out of his reach, but that he isunworthy of her.

Praveen Khumar Singh from Quora gave another simpler and more general explanation:

“I think it means that while all humanity, whether rich or poor, health or sick, is struggling and fighting their own daily battles and feels so low that it is so miserable as being in a gutter, there are some who have the will and determination to have lofty ambitions and a desire to fulfill them. Their current circumstances don’t hold them back from dreaming, from thinking high and persevering to change the world (their world and eventually other’s). Perhaps it also hints at the fact that most of them would continue to be in the gutter, because of their consciousness of their state, while the ones who are conscious of looking ahead and high would continually move ahead in life and might eventually move out of their gutter.”

  June 7 – Chicago Typewriter cameraman posted his photo posing together with Yoo Ah In from the filming set. In the photo, Yoo Ah In smiles so cutely while looking at the camera 🙂

  June 8 – Yang Jin Sung: “Watching Yoo Ah In acting is like watching a movie”

On the June 8th interview with the Star, actress Yang Jin Sung shared her experience acting with Im Soo Jung and Yoo Ah In.

Yang Jin Sung plays Bang Ji, a woman who can see ghost in tvN series Chicago Typewriter. In the interview, she said that Im Soo Jung welcomed and treated her warmly like an older sister from the first time they met. She praised Im Soo Jung for her natural acting and her own class.

To the question asking about her impression on Yoo Ah In, she answered, “There were not many scenes with Yoo Ah In, so I had not much opportunity to act with him. Before I joined the drama, I thought he was an actor with rough image, as if he was wrapped in a veil (he was a mysterious actor). But (after we met on the set) he said hello nicely to everyone with his style.”

She added, “Watching Yoo Ah In acting is just like watching a movie”. That’s right, girl!

  June 10 – Yoo Ah In narrates KBS “June Story” documentary program

KBS and the Democratic Hwaseong Memorial Foundation produced a documentary titled “June Story” through a story contest. Yoo Ah In took the microphone and became the narrator of the documentary. KBS Special Documentary ‘June Story’ was broadcast on KBS 1TV on June 10th. Here he was recording his narration in the studio~

Apparently, June is Korea’s historical month as they commemorate “The June Struggle for Democracy”.

In 1987, the democratization movement for overthrowing the military dictatorship which had lasted for almost 30 years and for achieving democracy to the country was conducted incessantly from every walk of life for one year.

The grand struggle for democracy in June 1987 was sparked by the mass protest on the occasion of the death under torture of Seoul University student Park Jong Cheol, who had been taken to the Namyeongdong detached office of the National Police Headquarters on January 14, and developed into a grand June struggle for democratization for sending the military dictatorship and winning a constitutional amendment for direct presidential election system.

The grand June struggle for democracy had been staged for 19 straight days with a total of more than 4 to 5 million people in general taking part in 34 cities and 4 counties across the country. And the number of struggles by workers was more than 3,000 and it was disclosed that over ten million people all told had participated.

Doesn’t this remind you of the Gwanghwamun Candlelight Rallies that he participated last year? It’s an honor for Yoo Ah In to be chosen by the foundation as the narrator of this program!

  June 18 – Another throwback photo with Yoo Ah In was posted by a supporting actress from “Like For Likes” 2016 movie behind-the-scene. Supah cute and hawt!

  June 18 – In the same day, Yoo Ah In commented the owner of the gym place where he exercises regularly (DC fans pointed that Yoo Ah In exercises regularly as a physical therapy to heal his bone fracture too). The man seems very close with Yoo Ah In and his friends. He, his wife and kids were always invited to Studio Concrete events. He posted “Dancer” documentary clip in his instagram. It looks like Yoo Ah In has recommended this documentary film to him.

Yoo Ah In’s comment under the video, “So you have seen it! ㅎㅎ” , to which he answered, “Yes. ^^”

  “Dancer” is a documentary of the world’s renown dancer Sergei Polunin. At the age of 19 Sergei Polunin became the dance world’s brightest star. He was appointed principal dancer at the Royal Ballet. Then two years later he stunned everyone when he abruptly walked away from the prestigious role.   June 18 – Still in the same day, he dropped his comment on Vogue editor-in-chief’s post too~

We don’t know who the athlete in the video is, we can’t guess the type of sports either (hockey?). All we know is that he seems like a big deal, since the date was important and listed by the editor under the video. Yoo Ah In seems to stan this athlete, because his comment was: “my number 1”.

Interesting to note: this athlete was wearing a shirt that reads “Team Serious” on it, just like the shirt that Yoo Ah In wore in his latest “selfie” insta post ^^

Im super curious to know what your thoughts are on that absurdity with prompto’s “dramatic reveal” in chapter 13

Hoo boy. My opinion about the “dramatic reveal” is pretty much my opinion on the whole game, which is 

“Good plot, terrible execution”

Prompto was an MT? Neat. However,

it should have happened earlier

it should’ve been resolved earlier

it should have had a bit more foreshadowing if it was going to be dragged out to Chapter 13 of all things. 

With regards to the actual scene, my first impressions were “Damn, Prompto looks good for a guy that fell off a moving train and got tortured!” then “Oh, oh shit, this is the twist– Prompto’s gonna strangle the shit out of Noct, isn’t he? He’s right there–” and finally “…. Oh.”

The game has Prompto like “Oh, I’ve been tortured for a while in this dungeon, also I wanna tell you guys I’m a Nif/MT”(1) and the bros are like “Ok so? That doesn’t change anything. We still care about you.” which matches more the reaction parents should have when their kid comes out of the closet than anything else. One of their own revealed themselves to be part of the same army that, like, has been attacking them relentlessly on the World Map every 15 minutes ( and interrupting the important dialogue we’ll never hear again ). You know the reaction Wakka had about Rikku being Al Bhed? Yeah. I was expecting that, most likely from Gladio. But they’ve known each other since they were kids, more or less, and those of us who have played the game, regardless of whether we did or didn’t see Brotherhood or the extra media, have likely already seen proof of their unwavering friendship toward each other even in portions of the game where it wouldn’t even make much sense for them all to still be cool.(2) So this… is a waste. It reinforced what we already knew. It served no purpose except to reveal a plot-convenient serial code on his wrist to help them escape, and it raised more questions. 

MTs are made from daemons made from Starscourged humans, and Niflheim would need a lot of humans, so they started making clones and infecting them. Prompto is supposedly one of them, but escaped when he was super young and adopted into the Argentum family. Okay, so who got him out of that lab? Why did he still have “no parents” in Brotherhood? Who were his parents? Were they natives to Insomnia? How did he get a nice place to live in and not end up in the outskirts/slum parts of Lucis on account of his being a foreigner? If he got a serial code imprinted when he was a baby, wouldn’t it have deformed as he grew up? How did it maintain its shape? Was the barcode the same size throughout his life? Why isn’t he wearing light-resistant armor, like the other MTs? This is stuff we’d have to read the Wiki or the strategy guide about, except I’m still asking these questions, so the answers exist nowhere. Even to this day. And people still have theories on whether the Naga in the beginning of the game ( the one that kidnapped Prompto and cried about her baby ) was actually Prompto’s mother. That’s fucked up storytelling, not because they did it on purpose, but because they didn’t.

The reveal happens and is resolved so quickly, no one has the time to process anything. A lot of this game is pretty much “Here’s this earth-shattering detail! Let us never speak of it again”. 

Like, yeah, Noct is broken up he attacked Prompto and knocked him off the train, but did he process the part where he said everything was Prom’s fault and demanding that Prom stop following him around? Right to his face?

Did no one stop to think that Ardyn being able to make himself look like another person means that there’s 0 chance any of them would know for certain that their allies were their allies? Wouldn’t they be in an intensely paranoid state, questioning each other on stuff the “real” them would know about? How do any of them know Ardyn isn’t still right there, hiding in plain sight?

Details that would have worked as foreshadowing for Prompto’s reveal, instead of Ardyn dropping eleventh hour infodumps on Niflheim’s army allowing for post-hoc bullshit:

The constant Magitek encounters come specifically from the Nifs geotracking Prompto’s barcode. The party actually brings up the frequency of these attacks, but Prompto is hesitant to say anything.

None of the Magiteks attack Prompto, focusing on the other three in the party instead of “one of their own”. Possibly dumb luck, and saves every gamer the trouble of Prompto always dying first somehow.

Increased frequency of goofy Ardyn selfies and creepy Prompto pictures on any day Ardyn is with the party.

Instead of Ardyn’s “stitch in time” thing that is never explained again, and Ardyn’s immortality just being the Astrals going “Ew, cooties” and banning him from the Beyond to inflict him on the living, have this: the way 'Ardyn’ appears and disappears is by body-hopping from one Starscourge-afflicted/daemonified person to another. Some individuals are more receptive to him than others based on how far along they are in their daemonification or MT experiments. So why was he on that train, in the place of Prompto? Because something inside Prompto allowed him to be there ( enough to alter his looks but not his speech patterns ). He could drop that particular bomb in Ch 12 before telling Noctis that Prompto is in Gralea.

Ardyn’s immortality comes from the fact that when he ‘dies’, he just manifests in the next likely person to host him or maybe someone of his choosing if he wants. That adds the drama of Ardyn not really ever being dead for good, and the possibility that he could take over Prompto in his next life if he felt like it. That’s a better justification for “You have to kill this dude, then kill yourself, then kill him again” than “Because the gods said so”.

TLDR the Prompto reveal sucked ass.

(1) Let me get this out: Fuck This Game. The localization sucks in its consistency by language. Bahamut is either the Draconian or the Aetherian. Ardyn could have either vaguely “known” Gentiana died, or personally had a hand in killing her. Izunia is either a relative of Ardyn, and Noctis’s ancestor, or is a completely random name Ardyn made up that he forgot the origins of. The Japanese version of the game, rather than hinting that Prompto is an MT, has sections where Ardyn instead taunts Noctis about “Did you know he’s originally from this city?”, and when Prompto reveals it to the group he says “I’m a person of Niflheim”. Even the JP VA confirmed it. So whether or not Prompto is even a Magitek is dependent on language of the game. I can understand that they were trying to go for, but they should have been consistent. Must have been something to do with the constant rewrites of the plot.

(2) Fuck This Game Part Duh: No, seriously. It tried to eat its cake and still have it, and I’ll tell you why. The game doesn’t actually give a shit about your choices. It wants its narrative both ways, telling us that Noctis in particular has certain “fixed” character traits but giving us a choice to make him another way in his dialogue options typical of Western RPGs which have “blank slate” characters. Using both methods and no lasting plot divergences to support those choices beyond the immediate cutscene makes it so that the dialogue options have no impact on the story or make sense, suggesting you play it “Square’s way” or else the game ignores your choices, which is fundamentally not how open world western RPGs work.

A playthrough in which Noctis acts like a total jerk to Prompto and dismissing him every chance he gets will still result in Prom wanting to hear from Noct that he cared about his well being, as well as Prom expressing sadness that Noct will die. 

A playthrough where Noctis puts only platonic or indifferent notes into the book he sends to Luna will still result in the scenes in Chapter 9 where he sheds a tear at her speech, laments that he wanted to save her, and then is quiet rather than impassioned and vengeful, even though he summoned Ramuh and busted a base to rescue the Regalia and to get revenge for Jared of all people.

A playthrough where the Altissian woman interrogates Noctis and Noctis answers by straight-up fucking metagaming and showing more understanding of the lore of the story than he’s ever been told and treating her with respect should count as “gaining her implicit trust”, but we still see a scene where Luna is sitting in the chair across from the Altissian woman and Imperial forces come in and surround Luna anyway, meaning the Altissian lady sold them out.

A playthrough where Noctis only ever responds maturely to Gladio, and his conversations with others have the options for him to act like a leader and the King he’s meant to be, will still result in Gladio chewing him out unnecessarily while the game clunkily tells us Noctis “is a spoiled brat/selfish”, “is being immature” and was “moping for weeks” about Luna even though we just saw her death five minutes ago and Noctis is shown to be quiet but otherwise not stalling the quest in any way. We didn’t even see a funeral, or excessive crying or outbursts, or Noctis demanding that everyone focus on his pain and staying in Altissia locked in a hotel room. He’s just quiet on a train. 

Chapter 13 of the game is especially awful, when both it and Ardyn insist that Noct is supposed to be some scared, frightened puppy without his weapons when he’s wielding the most canonically powerful item in the game, casually ripping gashes in reality and insta-killing a fortress full of daemons with an anti-daemon ring, and the player is able to ignore most (if not all) stealth mechanics and blitz through that chapter with no penalty.

For those that did the side quests throughout the game, the only trait from gameplay that sticks in the narrative is that Noctis is a passive entity. He’s told to do something, he just does it. Otherwise, no matter what, even if you played the game and had Noctis act like a rude shit and played as if none of the Bros were his Bros, they’re still going to be Bros. They’re still going to care about him, including Prompto. Especially Prompto.

Hey bethan im sorry for creating Discourse but i need to say this and your blog is always a safe place for unpopular onions. so im gay and ive always thought harry wasnt straight and it just made me happy to know my fave was like me but now with this Very Het album (some of the lyrics don't sit right w me) i cant help but feel like he has maybe,… idk like tried to play both sides a bit? Like to appeal to lgbt fans and please them with his gay comments? This sounds so wrong i know and im 1/

so confused but at the same time i dont believe that saying dont knock it til you try it or not that important and all the other stuff were just to show support to the lgbt community, i think its much more than that, its him telling us he isnt straight without outright saying im not straight. And now i feel like he played me and here i was thinking this album would be gay and H would kill me w gender neutral pronouns and instead hes out there singing about pussy juice and knocking up girls and like i know it doesnt mean he cant like men too but i cant help but feel that he is In Fact Straight™ and playing gay/bi was just a big joke to him or something. i know he does support the community but all these comments kinda rub me the wrong way now that i dont believe he truly meant them. first of all hiiiii i’m glad you think my blog is a safe space for u thats actually so nice of u to say, so thank u for that! but listen, i really cant tell you what to think or how to feel and i really dont think anything that i say is gonna help the way youre feeling. i know exactly how it feels to be gay and to want to see yourself in the celebs that you love and seeing them support the lgbt community is nice and all but having them be a part of it is something completely different and i think its only natural to hope that thats something they might be. but at the end of the day, theyre real people with real lives and we cant expect or demand that from them. i think its unfair to the celeb to pin all your hopes on them being lgbt (which is def something i’m guilty of doing myself) and then be upset or angry with them if their actions go against that. i think with harry its really complicated because he has done a load of things that would suggest that he isnt straight, he’s done them publicly for anyone to see and read into pretty unabashedly. so i feel like of course people like you and i are gonna assume that he’s like us and part of the community that we belong to and i think its natural to kind of get attached to that and have it be something thats really important to u. but like, this is something that i’ve always said and i still believe, even if harry is straight then at the very worst he’s a great lgbt ally who loves and supports us and i think thats important to remember. its easy to look at his comments and his rainbows and all that and brush it off as ‘playing both sides’ or ‘queerbaiting’ when in reality that could just be him trying to show us that he loves his lgbt fans and has our backs. i know that doesnt feel nearly as important or special as harry being one of us, but yknow, i feel like it still counts for something. like, i just dont get why people want to assume the worst in him and think that its just him trying to appeal to the gays and that he doesnt really care. maybe i’m naive or try too hard to see the best in him but i really believe that its not an act or some kind of marketing scheme but that it reflects his real feelings towards lgbt people. and like.....at the end of the day i still.......think that he isnt straight. like sexuality is truly so complex and just because he’s slept with women that by no means cancels out everything else he’s ever done thats hints at him not being straight. i think its easy to forget that harry is like.....a Person(tm) and maybe he just isnt ready to put that side of himself out there in any way that isnt just vague and thats okay too. i dont know i hope this doesnt sound like i’m coming for you or anything you’re totally allowed to feel the way that you do i just think that it’s not as black and white as either ‘harrys lgbt’ or ‘harrys queerbaiting’ like....idk......its complex

iyo when you write non-straight characters should you specify their sexuality/gender? I mean I'm personally a very 'not into labels at all' person for my own sexuality but support ppl who do find comfort in labels. but when I write I also tend to go toward the 'he just loves who he loves !!!' that sounded stupid but idk how to explain it.. so... like I was wondering why you feel strongly about explicitly stating someone's queerness instead of it being implied (at least u come off as that sorta)

i do definitely feel like that so!! i happen to have a lot of feelings about this so get ready for a Long Ramble. this is a precaution before ive even started typing i just know im gonna write a lot

i think before we start saying anything, we’ve got to acknowledge the difference between people who say that they dont like labels, and writing characters who Don’t Like Labels™. pointing out the problems of the latter is not a condemnation of the former. if someone rly doesnt feel like labeling their sexuality or gender, thats totally alright. the difference between these two is the person is a nuanced, multifaceted human being who may have lots of personal reasons for feeling that way, while the second is a fictional character that is Created and informed by cultural views of the creator. a person is not “created” by one single author and characters arent like…real living agents that have their Own Free Will, they are what their creators make of them. anyway i just feel like this is a rly important distinction that gets lost often!! i’m also more willing to look favorably on someone who self describes that way writing characters based on their own experiences, bc this perspective is inherently different from a straight person writing these sorts of characters. but moving on. 

whats also important to understand, beyond writing characters, is how being openly not straight is shunned. queer people are not allowed to Exist as openly queer and they have not been allowed historically. even these days among people who consider themselves progressive, you’ll often hear that “its alright if someone is gay but do they have to shove it in my face all the time.” this attitude isnt somehow formed in vacuum, but created in a society that treats been openly queer as a taboo. we aren’t allowed to be open about our sexualities the way straight people are. we can’t acknowledge that we’re queer lest someone tells us to Stop Shoving It In Their Face (not missing the irony as we’re surrounded by 400 billboards of hetero couples everywhere). i dont wan’t to delve into other aspects of discrimination and get too off track here, i just want to focus on how being Openly queer is treated as a taboo, particularly among people who still want to call themselves ‘accepting.’ the only way society allows queer people to exist is if they never remind anyone, Ever that they are not straight.

this is Integral to understanding why the i Don’t Like Labels characters are so frustrating. the unwillingness to Explicitly talk about queer people carries over quite handily to media. the same faux progressive people that demand queer people never talk about being queer bc its Too Much Information, will praise queer coded characters that hint at their sexuality but never confirm it. the reason these characters are written is not to genuinely explore why someone might feel uncomfortable with applying labels to themselves, but to appease people who will accept queerness as long as they never have to acknowledge it. this way, u can court queer people interested in representation And people who might like the story but will be uncomfortable with explicit queerness. its an attempt for writers to cash in on peoples desires for interesting queer characters without ever actually fully committing to representing them. you dont get to claim to support queer people if ur also out there providing comfort for peoples homophobia. you cant have a foot in both doors. 

describing queer experiences without calling them queer means that youre okay with this story as long as u dont acknowledge it as something Explicitly not straight and like…why?? why is it suddenly not okay when u take that bundle of experiences and use the word that theyre defining?? theres Weight behind using words like bi, gay, lesbian and if u reject them are u Really okay with lgbtq people? or are you okay with them Despite the fact that theyre lgbtq and not because you take into account theyre lgbtq. acceptance is not tolerating people Despite something, its acknowledging it and validating it as an okay thing to be. especially when it is something that historically Not been validated as okay. dismantling structural systems of queerphobia does not go about by ignoring queerphobia…shit this doesnt just fade away by chance, it takes active work. and part of this active work is Acknowledging Peoples Queerness As Something that is okay Out In The Open. the You in this isnt directed at you anon, just people who have these sentiments. 

throwing vague statements like ‘they just love who they love’ Also creates this level of ambiguity. you might say “well why do u need the certainty when ur describing what is at the very least, something obviously very not straight” and to that i say youd be fucking surprised at how goddamn hard straight people will try to erase the queerness out of a character. like i’m going to use a game called life is strange as a example. i’ll give some background: in the game, the main character max can romance both chloe and warren. note that max is not one of those blank state wholly customisable bioware-esque player characters, she has a personality outside of the choices u make. anyway, the conclusion that is Logically drawn from this is that she is most likely bisexual. or at the very least in some way, not straight. and Yet i have seen discussions that say “she doesnt have a set sexuality it just depends on the playthrough so shes not rly a Queer Character.” even more than that, ive seen people that saw “well even in the chloe one shes not necessarily gay or bi maybe shes just Making an Exception for chloe bc their relationship transcends sexuality” and like ??? Why??? why cant she just be bi?? even when given a queer romance, why do u try and interpret it in a way that sets her up as straight?? ive seen people say “its not a romance its just something that Transcends Words” as if this is… mutually exclusive from being a romance. like… Why doesnt this happen when hetero relationships are depicted?? ive literally never seen someone say “u know, maybe hes not attracted to women and just Making an Exception so hes not straight” why dont u see people try to erase the romance aspect out of hetero romances by claiming their relationship is “Beyond Words.” this treatment is 1000% only ever afforded to queer characters. this attempt to play off romance as not rly romantic is only done to queer characters, even if its done subconsciously. people will Refuse to accept a character is queer as fuck if you dodge around it, because heteronormativity is so ingrained in every interaction that even obviously queer characters get filtered through this lens. the problem with this isnt necessarily apparent until u look at it within historical context, where queer people are repeatedly not allowed to be openly queer. these arent isolated incidents, but manifestations of the idea that queer people shouldnt ever be open about their sexuality. youve got to tackle the discomfort that people have with words like gay/lesbian/bi/etc

i think this particular character trope wouldnt bother me so much if it wasnt like… the only narrative ever present. time and time again, i have to see characters proclaim that they dont like labels while never once even hearing people breathe the word bisexual. if it existed alongside characters who were explicitly queer it would be less frustrating But its literally one of the few ways (semi positive attempts at least) queer characters are ever portrayed. this is particularly true for bisexual characters lmao like… yes…theres people who dont like labels…but theres also millions of bi people that just wanna see a fucking bi character Talk about being bi and all we ever get is a vague “i dont like labels” (that is often never explored further than that and treated as a throwaway line anyway). is creating characters who say that a genuine attempt to characterize someones struggles with labels or is it just a way to avoid saying the word Bisexual.

same with queer romance in media. its only ever Okay if u just hint at it- see dumbledore being gay. see- the korrasami thing (though i dont fault the writers for this bc they pushed hard for what they got, its issues with the network). why are queer people relegated to drawn out stares that May imply something while straight characters are allowed to get into explicit relationships. when u create ambiguous characters that May be interpreted as straight (even if youve really gotta stretch) ur prefer to maintain the negative “neutral” of the heteronormative status quo and allow homophobes to live with their views unchallenged more than u care about addressing queerness in characters. 

 its not a coincidence that we dont do this to straight romance or straight characters. this is particularly important for queer kids!! its good to see queer characters out there being openly queer. while me and u can often pick up on queer themes and narratives, a 8 year old is not going to get that. especially when theyve been conditioned to see straight romance as the only feasible choice. they wont realize the character youre writing is gay or bi or whatever Because they havent been exposed to the connotations we associate w certain phrases. its so important for queer kids to see queer characters Owning that theyre queer. its especially importantly to normalize words like gay or bi or pan. being gay is often Extremely hypersexualized (which is why so many people will tell u they dont care what u do in the bedroom bc they can only picture queerness is a sexual context) so when u Dont treat these words as things only adults can say, u help get rid of the stigma surrounding them. u help remove the idea that being queer is inappropriate for kids to hear about and that the only possible aspect to being queer is sexual. 

anyway this has been Quite the Ramble but the point is that yes, we need to write more characters who are absolutely explicit about their sexuality and move away from the expectation that queer people need to create euphemisms to comfort homophobes desires to never hear about queerness.
