My February 2024 toy haul is here! Yay! Super happy with all these, of course over the moon with my Adorable Arts Sephys! As well as the tiny, tiny Sesshomaru hugcot! The Sasuke stuff is always welcomed; I am happy that I finally got one of those fancy acrylic panels, but sad I won't be seeing it, because it's sealed, and I'm a weirdo when it comes to sealed things... >___>;;; The Sasuke Colosseum fig I got from Amzn, and sadly the box is not mint. I got a few other prize figures I've been after for a long time (Len K.), and a double of the Araragi one, because I need doubles if not triples in my life... Lol! The Lulu acrylic stand has movable eyes, pretty cool! Also, super happy with the Artorias, tiny-chibified version of him! (:

yeah yeah everybody knows what im about to say anwyay but it's true:

Nintendo overpricing games would be infinitely less problematic if they discounted their games the way any other company does

According to the playstation store, Elden Ring started at £50, and Demon Souls Remake was- okay it is STILL selling for £70, what the FUCK-

But those starter prices are irrelevant (to anybody not being scammed by digital games), because right now I can easily get both of those games for £30 or less physically by shopping around a little.

In fact, the reason I chose these two games as an example is because they're one of the few games I actually know of where I can actually REMEMBER their original prices, just because I remember scott the woz mentioning how weird it was that DemonSouls was more...

Like, how the hell am I going to remember if Deathloop was a £60 game or a £70 game when the copy I own still has the used game store's price sticker on it, which reads "£8"? For the record, I checked, and the digital version started at £60. £10 more than Elden Ring...

You see what I'm saying.

Random question for your bus journey!

You say that Llinos' family all bond with foxes. Is that genetic or cultural? Also, how do people in general "choose" their familiars? Are some bonds stronger than others, and if so, what are the criteria for the strength of a bond?

So yes OK Llinos' family are all foxes and this is a cultural thing to begin with (they'll claim trickster and smart and all your usual fun fox mythology but also that's lost to the mists of time and when we get to Llinos' time they're just an Old Family that. Technically? Might be nobility. Hilarious. Stuck with their traditions) but at some point you have that many ferals all bonded with one specific creature that they just start gathering there

There are fox dens on the property so they grow up with that and the expectation of it, so y'know. Family pressure!

Kaua's family - haven't explored them, about to make shit up that may or may not stand - while largely birds, aren't all ravens

Jasper' family is an unknown but considering the uh. Curse thing going on, I doubt they were concerned with keeping it in the animal as it were

Llinos' younger brothers could have chosen literally any other animal but they've only ever known fox ferals so they don't question it (and if anyone's The fox-trickster archetype, it's those two). When they leave the family home, they don't have foxes bc they're like. Five. But then they are left to their own devices, find foxes, bond, don't think too hard before they barrel on in. Llinos chews them out for that lmao

But Jasper-the-character doesn't have that, doesn't know he's a feral mage until he and Llinos start travelling and she goes "Hey, you know you might be" (diagnosed by peer group)

So he gets to feel it out himself and work out what fits? And what fits is a lynx called Kallylin! There. Might? Be personality things at play but I don't want to say "oh these archetypes for this creature" so currently we're just having to deal with the fact that I specifically really like cats and foxes (and that one deer). But he and Kallylin are a chill set which is part of why they don't realise about the family-curse/unbalanced soul thing until he gets whammied with diff magic like a year or so later. She definitely makes him more protective of his family but that also makes him a little more prickly sometimes

And yes, some bonds are stronger! They have to have a Real Strong Bond to get to the whole furry-bonded thing

Not everyone furry-bonds, though, like that's also a choice and yes it does make them stronger plus the potential for elemental shenanigans

Sometimes it's just "great I have an animal companion" and that's it, like... not quite just a pet but closer to that than a level playing field. It's sort of about how much they respect each other or whether it's a means to an end. It's meant to be like any other friend/family/companionship. Probably not unhealthily co-dependent but they do start to bleed into each other even if they never bond (in-jokes and group-specific phrases to a whole new degree)

Their culture definitely favours fully-bonded, which is part of why Llinos takes so long to bond bc like she always sort of intends to but also. Don't tell her what to do you're not the boss of her

Plus like Rhydderch is - not really but yes really - her only reminder of home? The boys were young and Rhydderch has been there for so long that she doesn't know what she'd do without him at her side. So poetic that they do that when they return home for the first time ever

But fully bonding isn't like dying, he's still there and bleeds through in her interactions and mannerisms (which we see way more with Jasper and Kallylin lmao). Haunted by a fox <3

And more on the fully-bonded thing!

At one end of the spectrum we have Skilkran; demonsouled and Angy and spitting fire. Got overwhelmed by the Cat in a high-stakes too-new to each other situation (his dad's a dick)

The other end, we have Tamhas and Tadhg, Llinos' younger brothers; idiot glorified furries <3 Human swamped out the Fox so they changed up how they looked but very little else

Slap in the middle we have Llinos who had like all the training and knowledge given to her and got to do it in her own time so they were prepared.

Kaua is somewhere on the slightly-more-human side, while Jasper is on the more-animal side and prone to a little more of a volatile temper, but again that could also be the curse

The spitting fire isn't purely an unbalanced thing! Every fully bonded gets some elemental shenanigans get it to some degree but we're still playing about with the technical aspects. I know I said earlier that it was possibly like based on what kind of animal they bond with and that's probably what we're going to go with. Cats get fire, birds get air etc. Llinos is possibly an outlier what with the legacy lightning shenanigans but she isn't the only one I promise
