Dethklok + random things I think they've never experienced

Nathan: Having to get an orthodontic device (braces/retainer/etc.). His canon aversion to dentists probably started when he was very young! It's sensory hell for him, and I imagine that visiting the dentist as a kid constantly ended in tears, wails and panic; at some point his parents must have agreed to a truce. Luckily for him, his teeth weren't all that crooked to begin with, so it wasn't unreasonable for him to do without braces and just try to have a decent hygiene.

Pickles: Owning a pet— and therefore experiencing the loss of it. His parents would never allow him to have anything that would bring him happiness. Mordhaus has got yard wolves, sure, but I don't think he's all that involved in their care (I, like others, assume it's Skwisgaar who's closest to them). In fact, I headcanon that he used to have a phobia of cats, but Twinkletits helped him overcome it during PerformanceKlok. Anyway yeah this man has no clue what it's like to love and be responsible for a domestic animal.

Murderface: Receiving an award at school for anything. Not for sports, not for attendance, not for any after-school club, and certainly not for academic achievement. You'd think he might have been voted "Most likely to [whatever mean thing]" in the yearbook, but the sad truth is that he wasn't even acknowledged beyond his student photo among the rest of his classmates. (Note: I've never lived in America so I don't know how yearbooks actually work. I'm only going off of what I've seen in movies).

Skwisgaar: Having his mom attend any of his school events. Plays, Christmas shows, bake sales, probably even graduation— Serveta was nowhere to be found, as she was probably too "busy". She hasn't even attended a single Dethklok concert, not even while they're playing in Sweden.

Toki: Licking the spoon when someone is baking. Whatever sad, ascetic dishes were available to his family during his childhood, I doubt he was ever allowed to hang out nearby while they were being cooked, let alone offered to have a taste. In the present, he doesn't do it either, because it's never even occured to him to ask. And Jean Pierre is much too professional to offer the spoon himself, anyway.

There’s a shopping centre/mall in our city that I’ve been going to since I was a kid. Our dentist was just round the corner, and it’s where we’d get our school shoes in the January sales. As teenagers we’d save up our money from our odd jobs and wander round it on hot days. Now, I go there because it has a road next to it that is almost completely charity shops.

Just before lockdown they renovated it. And okay, it looks nice, but it didn’t really need renovating. There were a couple of leaks, and one or two cracked floor tiles, but it was built in the 1980s, so what more could you expect. It’s important to note here that it now leaks more since the renovation than it did before.

And because they renovated it, they raised the rent. They also used the renovation as justification for doubling the price of parking. (Despite the price of parking being doubled it’s still mostly cheaper than getting the bus if you’re only in town for an hour or two)

Because actually getting into town is already extortionate and difficult, foot traffic slowed. Covid didn’t help with this. Because foot traffic slowed, the stores started leaving because the extortionate rent wasn’t justified by the low number of sales. Which meant there’s less and less people coming in.

I went in today, and there are now 28 stores that are empty and closed, 3 stores that are closing in the next week, 1 store that I reckon is about to announce its closing and 11 stores that are open.

And because the space is a ghost town, the owners keep crying about how the high street is dying. Whilst being the ones who killed the high street.

Anyway, they’ve now decided to turn it into office blocks, which is hilarious considering it contains two of the four car parks in the city, and on busy days like half-terms, around Christmas time and during the summer they’re permanently full, so I don’t know how they’re gonna navigate either closing another of the big car parks or having just random foot traffic through a block of offices, but either way nobody’s happy and it’s all because they wanted the place to look swanky but couldn’t actually afford to pull it off.

Oh, they also removed 90% of the public seating, and ask you to leave if you’re sat on the floor, whether you’re blocking traffic or not. They once asked me to leave when I was having a meltdown and needed to sit on the floor in a corner.

When I first made the mod, I forgot that the Simoleons per hour were... well, hourly. I don't know why, like if I was tired or something, but that lead to the top level in the career giving sims $60,000 a day, which means $420,000 a WEEK... and since there's usually 4 weeks in an in-game calendar year that means $1,680,000 a YEAR...

I know veneer techs get a lot of money, but at some point this gets absurd. 😭

So I altered the hourly wages a bit. They're still wayyy more than average sims get for their jobs, but not like $21,000,000~ every human year.

Level 1 -> $250 (from $500)

Level 2 -> $500 (from $1,000)

Level 3 -> $1,000 (from $5,000)

Level 4 -> $5,000 (from $20,000)

Celebrity Scammer Branch -> $10,000 / M-F (from $50,000 / M-SN)

Seminar Leader Branch -> $7,500 (from $25,000)

If you still want the higher wages, they're still available with the original mod! <3 This is just for people who want a little more of a challenge. (emphasis on little, lol)

Man garage sales are always so hit or miss

They should just have them set up in a big parking lot and have it be like a flea market so I dont have to keep getting in and out of my car for boring sales

We went to one this summer that advertised it being a "plant sale" as well and we were like oh that sounds fun!! Yeah they were selling mostly dead cuttings in water for $3 each. Bitch. And half dead succulents for $5 (tiny ones, not worth the price) and like the saddest little cacti for $4 it was so depressing man

Then we went to some yesterday and I got a lot of ornaments but nothing really fun like last summer when I got like 4 "cherished teddies" figurines for like $2 each

Like idk what it was but the citywide sale last year was FUN we went to like 5 different ones and one guy was selling dentist chairs and dental machinery from the 90s (his buddy was a dentist and had passed away from cancer, leaving the business to the friend. He had no experience nor desire so he was just trying to offload it).

We came home with so many bags of shit last year and this year it was like one bag and 90% was ornaments, some we got for free from an old church friend

I remember two years ago we went to this really big church garage sale and got so much shit then it started POURING RAIN so hard the tents concaved 😭 and the people running it were like "just give us $20 for the whole lot it's fine, you're drenched go." And my mom had to like reverse haggle them into taking $50 bc it was A LOT of stuff. Eventually she got them to take $20 for the items and a $20 donation sgdgdggd

The next year they moved it to an indoor venue and it was super organized. They declared they were never doing it outside again lmaooo

Had a meltdown of sorts but not my usual screaming destructive frustrated meltdown, more of an emotional release and actually expressing myself, but in a distinctly neuroatypical way. So. Not really a meltdown but feels similar? Or maybe I was on the edge of a meltdown but I turned it into more productive crying and communicating instead simply by luck. I think that's more accurate. An averted meltdown crying session. In which I acknowledged out loud that things are different for me and are going to be different from the 'usual' 30 year old, because I am disabled. Like that's not giving up or acting younger than my age to acknowledge that my disabilities- autism + adhd (+anxiety+depression) make things different for me. They're disabilities bc they are disabling to varying extents and varying times.

My sister awhile ago told me I should move out, and on one hand I want to be independent and not feel like a child when I'm with our parents, and I've never lived away from home for more than a week, and i get that in her opinion as the child who went the farthest from home more than once, that experience of living away from home was good for her and her growth and independence, she thinks trying for that goal by the same method would be good for me too.

But the aspects of my disabilities that are disabling are the things that would make moving out and living on my own or even with roommates anywhere from somewhat difficult to meltdown-inducing stressful with negative results (in other words I could go the opposite direction and retreat from independence more bc it scary and difficult and if I'm not good at something right away I give up bc it feels bad!) I can barely manage to make all these phone calls to try to get my medication, I haven't even looked into how my new dental coverage works and didn't call my dentist back and only listened to their voicemail yesterday bc I got stressed out about everything, I have at least one maybe two bills or more overdue to my Dr's office that I have the ability to pay but just haven't taken care of and just can't get myself to do it, I paid for driving lessons over 2 years ago and still haven't called them back to schedule the lessons between being busy and overthinking everything to do with the phone call and the scheduling and the lessons themselves, I struggle to keep my cat's litterboxes clean, I struggle to make sure I shower, I'm struggling to keep up brushing my teeth after starting twice or 3x a day back after my dental surgery in now at 1x a day because I'm always in a rush in the mornings and I have to remind myself to brush before bed *every single time*, I overthink and then fail to respond to messages/texts/emails constantly, I forgot I was going out on the sales floor to help a customer at work yesterday completely bc I got distracted and they waited 10+ mins for me going back and forth to customer service and were very unhappy, i cant get myself to go to bed on time or do a million other things, etc etc etc.

On top of that, I actually *like* spending time with my parents and I'm aware they're getting older, they're not Old, but older. I don't want to throw away time I can spend with them on this idea that I need to live on my own to be independent or just to act my age, like there aren't other 30 yr olds living at home. (My mom lived at home until she got married, sure she went away to college, yes, but still came back and lived at home after that. My dad probably also lived at home until they got married, and hes older than my mom by 2 yrs.) There's nothing so inherently not-independent about living at home as an adult.

Also steph thinks that our parents deserve or need to live alone just the two of them, and do everything alone, as if I'm always spending time with them? Plenty of times I do my own thing while they go somewhere and do something on their own. I came with them this past one time bc I needed a vacation too and also was too anxious to stay alone and also I hadn't seen the place up there yet at all. But anyway the idea suggests me needing support for my disabilities is somehow impinging on their ability to live the retired life, like it implies I should feel bad or try to not make them put up with me too much or something. But the fact is I AM disabled and I DO need support and they are my support system at the moment. That doesn't change just because I'm 30 now. I may or may not need the same support for the rest of my life, I don't know, and yes I know they won't be with me for my whole life (tho my zayde was around for 60+ years of my mom's life and 30+ years of it with her as an adult, so), but focusing on the here and now this is where I'm at right now, and I'm the future I can develop other support systems and I can branch out further and further over time, I think I've come a long way since I was 20 let alone 25, even if it doesn't always feel like it, and in other ways I'm struggling more, for different reasons, but anyway. I'm not a burden on my parents and I shouldn't feel the need to remove that burden from their retired life, bc it wouldn't be in my Own best interests to do so! And I'm allowed to be selfish and do what's best for me as long as it works for my parents as well. And it does.

There are still ways I can work on being independent, I try a little bit more all the time and push myself a little bit, and that's okay.

I don't need to do what steph thinks I ought to as a 30 yr old and I don't need to shrink myself from being a problem for my parents by doing things that won't be right for me right now, when I'm not a problem or a burden I just need their support.

And again I do like spending time with them, sometimes I get frustrated with them and with the expectation I'll just continue doing things the same way we always have, for example with dinners, but it also just makes sense like. If dad cooks bc he likes cooking and is best at it, then it makes sense to eat together at the same time when it's fresh and hot off the pan, no need to insist on my own separate time and meal, when it's efficient to est the same meal and together.

Anyway just...thinking and coming to terms but in a positive way, accepting I am disabled and that that's okay.....

So I saw your reblog about truckstops, and as someone uniquely qualified to answer your rhetorical questions, this excited me. My qualifications include living within fifteen minutes of and having two family members who currently work for the Iowa 80 Truckstop, having worked there for six months after high school, and then having a parent who worked there for seven years before working for the other truckstop across the road.

The truckstop I worked for, Iowa 80, is located in Walcott, Iowa, is the world's largest truckstop. They almost lost that title to their sister location and had to expand their square footage. Inside this truckstop is a 24-hour restaurant, a laundromat with at least fifteen washers and dryers (I haven't counted), a dentist (who I highly recommend for dental emergencies), full scale showers for purchase that include private restrooms (some are fully wheelchair accessible), a small movie theater, a hair salon, a chiropractor, a small office that's used as a church/worship space for truckers with resources for local actual churches and advocacy groups, a food court rivaling our local mall, a game room, a gift store, and finally, the showroom. There's also a small truckers lounge with free internet access and lots of space to sit and converse.

The only thing missing from the post is places to sleep. You could technically sleep there. It is a 24-hour business, and I have seen people take their dogs inside during storms and camp out on the floor of the showroom before. But there's not like... beds or anything. There are a few hotels nearby, but as can be expected due to the nature of the trucking industry, they're all motels and cheap places to sleep that's not the bed inside your truck.

The showroom is large enough to house a full semi with trailer (used for storage), with an electronics section, chrome department, and a small graphics printing section called the custom shop, where you can have embroidered t-shirts and vinyl stickers made of your company's logo, or whatever you want. For sale on this floor includes all kinds of accessories and electronics for truckers, as well as a small media selection of DVDs, CD's and audio books. They also have a section for mattresses for your semi, as well as they used to have a small spot to buy musical instruments.

The foot court and convenience store are a huge room with a Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, combination Einstein Bros Bagels and Caribou Coffee, Dairy Queen/Orange Julius. There is also a full-scale convenience store, with every soda, snack, and candy you can imagine.

In the gift shop, you can buy your normal stuff. T-shirts and such. But you can also buy katanas. For some reason. And I used to have to sell those at 3am. They also at one time sold a whip. But no guns or alcohol, thank god. That would've been too much for the family-friendly label that the family that owns the company has.

There's also a service center, with access to truck diesel, DEF, etc. It has a Chester's Chicken, a Blimpie, and a smaller little gas station selection of candy and drinks and such.

Now, if you want alcohol or lottery, you gotta go across the road, to Pilot.... which is where my mom defected to after like six years of working for Iowa 80. They sell booze. But there's not only one, there's TWO of them, across the road, and across the interstate from Iowa 80. One has an Arby's, and the other has a Subway.

In this small section of town, there's also a McDonalds, but it's not part of everything else. It's just there, between the little Pilot store and one of the aforementioned motels.

You now know everything there is to know about my weird situation with Iowa 80/Pilot.

But there is one thing I gotta say, this is pretty unique. Most rest stops, and gas stations are like Pilot. Located off the interstate, a little shop to get gas and snacks, a restroom, and some space to stretch your legs. Iowa 80 is a big ass building and part of a family owned business with multiple sister locations. In the US, most rest stops and such are just a gas station, maybe a bathroom with a place to get out for vending machine snacks and a spot to hide from bad weather.

No place to sleep does make sense since most transport trucks have beds built in anyways.

Most truck stops here are basically just roadside food courts with a gas station outside and sometimes with a tiny gift shop that might have t-shirts and keychains. I pass 5 on my way to and from work (god my commute is far too long) and all except one are owned by the same company (OnRoute) and are pretty boring.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure the only truck stops I've been to with anything more than that have all been in the US on roadtrips. Though obviously none as exciting as the one you are describing (Jesus Christ a movie theatre and a dentist??)

The Varga Chart – Dashamsha Or D10
