I know literally nobody who follows me except my boyfriend will care about my Linuxposting but I recently switched to using Sway and I feel at home on a workflow in a way that I haven't felt in a long time
I wouldn't say it's better/worse than the GNOME workflow I unrepentently shill for, but it saves me battery life which is useful when you're a uni student with a light laptop
I may return to GNOME sometime in the future, especially for a desktop system, but this is nice lol

I love it when Linux is just like "you want to update 277 packages? no problem. I gotcha fam"
takes like 8 minutes max due to download size. meanwhile windows updates makes my machine do fuck all expect show a spinning circle for 3 hours and then randomly fail because I didn't pass the vibe check and now my hard drive is corrupted.

Woo got Linux working! On a related note I have gotten over any fear of breaking things through the command line and also can now roll back to an earlier system backup. Yes those are related. In my defense, breaking things in interesting ways is a great way to figure out what's actually going wrong.
#Had issues getting my trackpad to work and went through All The Drivers#thank you that one redditter who went through this same thing six months ago and figured out that installing a previous kernel fixed it#Official documents out random redditter in#RIP Windows 11 I shall not miss the 4 times you managed to force updates in the two non-consecutive hours I used you#Nor how each update progressively added more unwanted ad junk and invasive features#Save me Linux-Wan you're my only hope#The Cinnamon desktop seems adorable I'm looking forward to playing with its features tomorrow#Wow it's been awhile since a new OS has been exciting#Instead of Oh What Fresh Hell Is This

"Linux is about choice" RE: GNOME Hate
You can choose not to use GNOME. Nothing is stopping you.
You don't have to use it.
Uninstall it. Change desktop environments. Most other popular DE's are gonna be right there in your package manager.
GNOME derangement syndrome in the Linux community is so fucking annoying. It caters to a very specific workflow. This is fine. No other DE comes close to its level of polish at its one specific workflow paradigm. It has a niche.
Arguably, it's not even much less customizable than Cinnamon, Deepin, or Budgie. People just complain about GNOME more because they're upset that it's either peoples' first experience with the Linux desktop or because it deviates from the workflow paradigm they're used to.
You shouldn't even be looking towards a desktop environment if you want total control and customization, to be quite honest. Window managers are a much better option for users who care that much.

discord should rlly hire somebody, anybody; just a single person that knows half a thing about ux
