What a lovely family portrait👨🏻👨🏻👦🏻🖼️
Enhanced image of A-Yuan's first sword flight.
#Modern AU WWX is a pro skateboarder who got vestibular damage after a head injury and-#-has such bad vertigo he can never skate again. But has to keep finding excuses to not reveal his affliction.#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#a-yuan#ask#I honestly have no idea if A-yuan would have flown via sword before this point.#But I can absolutely see him being 1) So delighted and 2) Very Unaware of the danger of hieghts.#At the age he is - it's also likely that he just trusts that these adults will keep him safe.#This is all to say: A-yuan's danger sense is not yet developed and flying is the coolest thing that has happened to him. Maybe ever.#The discussion in the comic tags/comments about how sword flight got me thinking about how it works when someone had passengers#If using a sword requires having a goldern core - what about riders who don't?#I have to imagine it is like currents and magnets. And LWJ is the only one who is magnetized to the sword.#WWX is but a unpolarised clown on a swiftly moving object with a low friction quotient.#He's not the untamed anymore. He's the untethered. He made it through the trip through sheer force of will and hand strength.#The only equivalent I have is#He keeps refusing to get in cars/buses because he 'loves to walk'. He mourns his days of sick drops. Chenqing is his walkman.

anyway i think the funniest way to hc teru as trans is to have him not know that there are trans people other than him. he woke up one day when he was 11 and was like oh of course i can be a boy i am the main character and most special person and then he just attacked anyone who said he couldn’t with his psychic powers.
#even when he gets his character development he’s still kind of like#but i’m the only person who’s ever gone from being a girl to a boy. so i’m still special#mob coming out as a girl would’ve blown his mind if he didn’t think she was so special#actually the only trans people he knows are all psychics. it’s going to take him a while to figure this out#except reigen ig. but if i remember correctly teru is the only character to never imply that he knows reigen isnt actually psychic#so i think teru does believe him bc he thinks mob believes him and he has substituted his own beliefs for mob’s bc he doesn’t understand#that in order to become a better person he has to actually develop his own principles and not just adopt those of someone he considers to be#essentially morally perfect without really understanding what they stand for#but that’s a more serious post#anyway i think that one day mob is discussing her hormones and teru is like man it would be so cool if they did a boy one 💔#and mob is like. what. and also at some point during this conversation teru reveals he’s unvaccinated (his parents forgot)#and ritsu stands at least 2m away from him at all times until he gets all his vaccines#whole post in the notes but whatever#mp100#teruki hanazawa#mob psycho 100

She doesn't have sex with him to repay him for the ring. It’s because she feels something for him in that moment, she can tell he sees and accepts her (Anora, not Ani), and it freaks her out. So she tries to assume control by having sex, keeping him at a distance and making him into just another guy who only wants her for her body. But he disproves that by not actually participating in the sex and then trying to kiss her. That shattering of her worldview, combined with the stress she just went through, finally makes her defenses crumble. Note that she jumps him after the line about his grandma's car, not after he gives her the ring

"We need more complex female characters"
Well, what a odd thing to say when you are not even prepared to deal with Crystal Palace. Like, she's complex as hell, but her arcs are pretty easy to understand, and yet I still see people villainizing her. You want complex female characters, but you're not ready for them, especially if there's an m/m couple, canon or not, in the mix.
#I don't usually get into this kind of discussion#but I ended up reading some shit and couldn't help myself#I love Crystal and the construction of her character in the first season#and my biggest disappointment about the cancellation was precisely about not seeing her development in the series#and I love Paineland with my heart but not at the expense of purposefully interpreting Crystal's arc wrong to have some reason to hate her#you can not like the kind of character she is or the kind of arc they're giving her#but if you have paneland in your justification for not liking her then you're talking shit#sorry i needed to get this out#dead boy detectives#crystal palace surname von hoverkraft#crystal palace

why does so much of mel discourse on this site centre on to what measure she did or did not manipulate jayce like that's the extent of her complexity and grey morality, as if she has not directly and indirectly been contributing to the opression of zaun not because she's prejudiced or hates them but simply because she profits from it, like i am so sorry my queen that they don't get you like i get you
#arcane#mel medarda#ella originals#in fact i do think it's soooo interesting that mel being an immigrant didn't really grow up with the ingrained prejudice like most piltovan#(it's cait's lines in her first ever scene--she's not at all malicious it's just a part of her worldview that the undercity is dangerous)#(and that's not something she ever grows out of which is such a huge fail for the show but that's a discussion for another time)#mel doesn't hate zaunites or anything she just doesn't care#she is a kind and compassionate person but all that is hyperfocused on directly opposing her mother's violent imperialism#and not in the sense of well the price in blood to be extracted for our advancement is too much and not worth it#but the advancement--progress if you will--can be accomplished through avenues other than violent imperialism and expansionism so it's fine#and it doesn't matter to her that those other means are just as bloody and that it's very much NOT FINE#it's such a fascinating contradiction and a blind spot and i am SO ANGRY s2 made her a wizard instead of exploring it#a zaunite revolution could have had her whole world collapsing around her#WE WERE ON OUR WAY#IT WAS ALREADY HAPPENING WITH THE BRIDGE MASSACRE THAT'S WHY SHE ORIGINALLY SUPPORTED ZAUNITE INDEPENDENCE#because the blood she's been spilling finally came to flood her door too and she had to face the fact that she was not so different from he#mother at all that's why she took off her ring before she cast her vote#and we could've gone so much further with that i wanted to see everything this woman believed she knew about herself collapse around her#i wanted DRAMA and EXPLORATION and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT#anyway this got away from me but my point was i see so many people acting as if the reason mel's morally grey is bc she manipulated jayce#as if she's not actively profiting off of violent oppression of zaunites#in case it was somehow unclear none of this is me being anti-mel i adore my queen with all my heart

on my first rewatch of étoile and during episode 2 when Jack is telling Cheyenne she can't "come to new york and piss off the entire company in one fell swoop" (something around those lines, close to verbatim) I remembered how sometime after this moment is when Tobias over in Paris practically does the same thing, calling the entire French company to rehearsal just to not cast all of them and Geneviève says something nearly identical to him. I think its really cool how Tobias and Cheyenne are simultaneously opposites and parallels, kind of like a path forking in the road that leads to two very different outcomes (at least so far).
For different reasons and under different circumstances, they are both incredibly passionate about the work they do, in the sense that they are very particular about their personal art and will prioritize it over everything else. But the reason they turn out rather differently despite starting so similar is because Tobias gets someone in his life who is willing to support him how he needs in order to be freed from the pressures that are making it hard for him to do what he loves. Most people aren't willing to *learn* Tobias and work with him. When Gabin does, it also helps Tobias to start getting better at doing the same, to being more receptive to the collaborative aspect of art.
Side note, I know just how hard this is also as an autistic person who works in live entertainment tech. As much as I enjoy "working with others," it has taken me *years* to make progress in actually working WITH others and not just working around or near them. I can get so caught up in my personal vision of the way things "need to be" or "should be," and forget that the work I do and love inherently *needs* the ideas and experience of many, and is also all the more amazing for it.
But back to Cheyenne. Cheyenne has a similar mentality about the art she creates, like Tobias-- again, with many other factors involved, but what I'm trying to get at is they both come across the same way to most people in the show. She too feels more and more hopeless about the work she does. She explicitly states that she does not enjoy or love it, but it is her calling in this world, her obligation. What she was born to do. Tobias and Cheyenne both have a passion for what they do, and lose it more throughout the show. But where Tobias' love for his work is reinstilled through the support of another, Cheyenne's pressures are furthered and her turmoil worsens. She is not shown understanding or support, but rather her concerns are brushed off (i.e. the slip) and expectations are worsened. Cheyenne doesn't get a Gabin in her life who is willing to stick around, understand her, and help her change.
In the case of the job offer, she's ecstatic discovering something that she feels will rekindle her love for dance. She realizes how she can channel her passion in a way that *she* enjoys and is much healthier for her (physically and mentally). But ultimately, she's the one who gets shit from everyone else involved, despite doing nothing wrong. Geneviève only sees Cheyenne as her étoile, as her top dancer that makes the National money. Once Nicholas recovers, Jack rescinds the offer, understandably so, but he could've avoided getting Cheyenne caught in these crossfires in the first place had he waited to ask her until Nicholas had passed. He's also upset at Cheyenne, for making Geneviève upset at him, and ultimately Geneviève and Jack act like a divorced couple using their child as an outlet for their frustrations with one another. Don't even get me started on Gael just being... Gael. Love him in some ways, but he really could've handled things with Cheyenne better to say the least. Basically, Cheyenne is trying to make herself happy while also being obligated to make everyone else happy, and since it's impossible to please everyone, is turned against entirely instead AND loses the singular light at the end of the tunnel she found. Cheyenne's crash out was so incredibly valid, and it was so heartbreaking to see her get an entirely different outcome from Tobias at the end of season 1, having both started from the exact same spot and being taken in the exact opposite directions.
All this is to say, I really hope Cheyenne gets in season 2 what Tobias got for season 1: somebody to offer her a hand to pull herself up with, to help her take the first step so she can continue the journey.
I know I had a lot more evidence and points to make, like the choreographer for I Married Myself, but I've been pacing in my kitchen typing this for the past half hour and still have episode 2 paused in front of my dinner. I can GLADLY talk about this more and in more detail, since there really is so much to unpack with Tobias and Cheyenne's characters and how they're treated so differently due to their occupational roles (and, dare I say, genders and perceived neurotypes as well). But for now, to those of you who got this far, I hope you enjoyed this accidental mini-character-analysis-rant. Go watch étoile. Or watch it again like me if you already finished it.
#live laugh love tobias and cheyenne#oh and stan gabias#that ones kinda a given#cheyenne they could never make me hate you#maybe they could if you were an objectively shitty human being but youre literally just a complex female character who is understandably#pissed about a lot of things and doesnt feel obligated to make yourself palletable to everyone around you#PLEASE étoile season 2 give cheyenne the character development she deserves dont let her go misunderstood 🙏🙏#étoile#étoile show#étoile tv#idk#cheyenne toussaint#tobias bell#gabin roux#jack mcmillan#genevieve lavigne#gael rodriguez#gabias#tobin#tobias x gabin#gotta get this post to all the shippers hold on#jeyenne#jack x cheyenne#jack x geneviève#geneviève lavigne#étoile season 2#étoile spoilers#étoile discussion#discussion#ballet

im not that great at analyzing characters and reading into subtext and all that but tumblr has opened my eyes and made me think more about majimas queerness and then i remembered Hannya-Man and its like. its not even subtext the text is hitting you over the head with The Implications.
#rgg#why a hannya out of all the spirits and demons in japanese mythology and noh theater?#not to be dramatic or anything but as someone whos trans masc and cant do anything about it#all the discussion around majimas relationship to gender has been kind of cathartic#im not familiar with how the character is used in pop culture in japan#or how its meaning varies between how its used in plays and colloquially#but from what little i could find your gender doesnt dictate or matter in how you relate to the hannya but still#originally im sure they just chose that tattoo for him since its like one of the most recognizable “oni” masks and it looks cool#but how that tattoos taken a deeper meaning with the more they develop him as a character through the games is really interesting#majimer#majima goro#goro majima#ryu ga gotoku#hannya man#goromi#like a dragon#yakuza kiwami#also unrelated but why did most of the pages i could find talking about the hannya and its symbolism just full of ai slop#noh masks are like. like. the way theyre crafted is usually with very specific features for specific reasons so just generating something#that “looks enough like a hannya mask” feels especially stupid#not that using ai is never NOT stupid but you get what i mean#its like so In Your Face how Stupid it is#i hate ai#i hate it here#yakuza

Anyways when are we gonna stop pretending this isn't about "getting back at" an imagined trans guy. Good job! You both finally recognized trans men as men, AND ignored that they are punished for being men in one sentence. Really special work happening here.

The controversy is in only considering trans men as "men" in a way to hurt them. While also in a way misgendering:
"You're only a man because I know implying you act like a cis man in all the bad ways hurts you. In reality I see you all as hysterical bitches out to hurt the rest of the trans community" isn't progressive. It's just being nasty to be nasty.
Imagine hating trans people so much you joke about wishing they all died, then make posts like this, and assume that people will still think you actually care about the trans community.
#like. come on.#imagine thinking acting like a middleschool bully is fun and cool ??#like. you know what youre doing.#and dont start on the “well this is about trans women and the 'dude' problem!!”#bc if it was REALLY about that then trans men wouldnt get mentioned like that#as most trans men get that you just dont call a trans woman dude.#“how do i find the sneakiest eay to take shots at trans people i dont like” isnt very progressive and leftist of you#be better#also nice job using the 'dude' in both the gendered and gender removed contexts#you are ALMOST to the point of recognizing how that word works !!!#wheres the fucking post breaking down the five different ways that Dude developed#“dude” in the “reference to a masculine person”#“dude!” the exclamation similar to “fuck!”#“dude” with a comma as in leveling the playing field as spoken from a woman to a man#etc etc etc#its used in two different ways structurally in this post#which. would be interesting to discuss. if this entire thing wasnt steeped in transandrophobia#idk the more i see of these posts the more im convinced#that theres a small group of trans gals on here (SMALL) that are angry that trans men exist for a number of reasons#and they just wanna take their anger out on acceptable targets#mark my words these same accounts wouldve been making these same posts about ace/aro ppl when it was cool to dunk on them#like why do people have to take shots at people in community with them rn#we are being hunted for sport irl and then you get online and find ppl trying to crumble solidarity#with silly little stupid shit like this

Something Extraordinary
historical platonic-romcom
an aromantic woman tired of feeling unworthy when the people closest to her leave her behind for romance, and a gay man in unrequited love who is planning on giving up and marrying a woman in misery and drunkenness
she kidnaps him the day before the marriage to stop him ruining his life, suggesting that they get platonically married instead - and on the ridiculous journey to scotland to elope, they have to convince each other if it’s what is best for them, and what they want out of life/love/and friendship
#something extraordinary#alexis hall#aroaessidhe 2025 reads#aromantic books#platonic-romcom that really delves into the characters and their relationship and it’s JUST what I crave so much#it’s the kind of aromantic narrative I want more of.#Someone who’s (mostly) content in their identity AND the narrative actively discusses and explores amatonormativity and being aro#(rather than just internalised arophobia; or aro but it’s barely part of the narrative)#I have read the first book in this trilogy and it was okay but not really my vibe; I skipped the second because of this.#I realise belle has some background development in that one but. well#I think this third book as the conclusion of her arc has the most important part of it to me#I appreciate how well this managed to have them both at separate points have to convince the other that eloping is a good idea#really digging into their characters and not feeling completely like ridiculous back and forth#(though of course it’s pretty ridiculous in many ways being the kind of book it is)#it’s very heavy on the witty regency banter which is fun to an extent but there’s a bit much for me - I guess I knew this going in#The pacing at the end is a bit weird with multiple timeskips.#I feel like it could have padded that out a little more and removed some of the earlier bits#Some of those parts like re: his parents felt like they could have used a bit More to them.#I also appreciate the ‘fuck you for planning to punish yourself by getting married to a woman without thinking about#what that’s like for her’ from MULTIPLE women lmao#aro woman x gay man friendships are very important to me. good dynamic.#anyway. did make me cry aromantically

When Igor tells her the car was his grandmother’s, she sees someone who is, and has been, kind to her - unlike most of the men in her life: the men at the club, the ones who use and take. Ivan, with his deception and abandonment. Toros, speaking of her like she was nothing. The henchmen, treating her like property. Galina, though she’s not a man, and her demeaning dismissals.
She feels some sort of sadness in that moment, but also, and more strongly, gratitude. She doesn’t transactionally repay him for the ring, but wants to genuinely thank him. She uses the only thing she’s been made to believe she has to offer - her beauty, her body, her sexuality - to thank him.
(This turning point occurs when he mentions that the car was his grandmother’s. Earlier, we see interactions that highlight how the men she’s met disregard their family. The client in the beginning that hopes his family doesn’t find out he’s with her, and her friend talks about a client who compares her to his 18-year-old daughter; Ivan marrying a “hooker” just to piss his family off. When Ivan mentions meeting her family, Anora only mentions her mother and sister—no mention of her father.
Perhaps Igor is just too poor to have afforded his own car. But the way he said it was his grandmother’s, you sense the affection he holds for his grandmothers and that he misses her. These interactions contrast with Igor, who isn’t like the others. His gentleness stands out, and Anora recognizes it. She admires this about him deeply. So she doesn’t just want to thank him (although this is the main reason); she also wants to do something for someone whose gentleness and kindness she deeply appreciates.)
But when Igor tries to kiss her, something shifts. He doesn’t just want to enjoy some sex with a pretty woman. In that moment, Anora sees someone who truly wants her, someone who feels something for her. Whether that something is genuine care, a recognition of what she’s been forced to endure, or sorrow at the humiliation and pain she has suffered. Maybe, from the kiss, there’s something else too—maybe he feels for her in a way that’s deeper, something close to tenderness.
After everything, after the relentless sexualization and dehumanization—not just in the past day by Ivan, the family, the family’s henchmen, but throughout her entire career—having someone who sees her as more than that, who cares, who sees her pain and feel sorry for her - is overwhelming. She breaks down.
But in that breaking, there’s also something else—comfort. The safety to let herself unravel, to let her emotions spill out, to exist beyond the role she has always been forced to play. Not to smile, not to move and speak seductively, but to cry. To finally express the hopelessness and pain in her soul in front of someone who isn’t expecting her to perform.
- my own interpretation of the ending

"the reason adrien is just instantly good at everything he tries is because he is programmed to be that way as a senti" aside from the fact that i don't think that's how it works (and also while he was decent at everything he tried with marinette he wasn't instantly good at all of them, and what marinette actually said to him was that he could improve in anything with practice but it was a great first attempt) did we all collectively forget about how adrien actually canonically isn't the best singer?

#adrien agreste#miraculous#miraculous ladybug#ml s6 spoilers#ml season 6#ml climatiqueen#miraculous spoilers#ml spoilers#actually never saw that episode in french so maybe the french voice actor did a better job idk but given that adrien doesn't#usually sing for kitty section or ever the way i saw it was he used his poetry writing skills to write a song#and as a songwriter he was probably great but being a good lyricist doesn't make you a great singer obviously#so to me that's what his deal is#i actually like that throughout this show adrien has some things he picks up easily and some things he has to work on and might never do as#well as people with more experience#i also think as a kids show the lesson they want to put out is anyone can improve with effort and attempt#like he fumbled that science lab experiment but enjoys particle physics#languages tend to come easily to him precisely because it's been something he was forced to do since he was young#a lot of polygots especially if they start young develop skills and see linguistic patterns and iirc he already knew some#japanese from anime and his familiarity with mandarin should help#but i love that he took it further and took on morse code like the cute nerd he is#and now he's studying ancient greek for fun??? what a cute#marinette says his macarons tasted fine but we saw him struggle with the creme#what i mean to say is#he has discipline (basically second nature now) and dedication so he can do well but it DOES require effort#and i think it dismisses how much adrien TRIES or the fact that a lot of skills he was taught to have since a young age aid him#and i just don't think all sentis are “perfect” in an AI robotic way (even if that's how their parents wished they were)#it also just lessens his humanity and iirc the writers have stated multiple times that they are still human#(we can discuss how inconsistent ml is about sentis in general but eh idc for that conversation tbh agdhsjsjks)#anyway adrien will forever be#my nerdy son i love him so much
