Attiny85 Development Board
The ATtiny85 development board is similar to the Arduino, but cheaper and smaller (of course a bit less powerful). With a whole host of shields to extend its functionality and the ability to use the familiar Arduino IDE, this ATTINY85 Development Board is a great way to jump into microcontroller electronics. ATtiny85 development board come with the USB interface. Coding is similar to Arduino, and it uses the familiar Arduino IDE for development. This is a digispark clone. It has 6 port with several functions. Depending on the programming (with Arduino IDE) can it have 6 digital I/O, 4 analog inputs or 3 PWM outputs. It can be powered by a USB port or an external power supply of 6-35V DC.
Features:
Support for the Arduino IDE 1.0 (OSX/Windows/Linux).
Power via USB or External Source or 7-16 v to 5 v (automatic selection).
The On – board, 150 ma 5 v Regulator.
Built – in USB and serial was debugging).
6 I/O Pins (2 inform the for USB only if your program actively communicates over USB, otherwise you can use all 6 even if you are programming via USB).
8 k Flash Memory (about 6 k after bootloader).
The I2C and SPI (vis USI).
PWM on 3 pins (more possible with Software PWM).
The ADC on 4 pins.
The Power LED and the Test/Status leds.

your designs are so peak! dyou think youd be willing to share some of your process for how you develop the looks you make?
Sure thing ! I'll take you on a journey into my mind's eye
Long text post ahead in case anyone's interested in my designing process
I start off with references-- lots of references. I pull inspiration from more than one iteration for a character ! For Brainstorm specifically I took the most inspiration from IDW Brainstorm with aspects from G1 like his darker/greener color.
Red Alert's darker color palette is also based on the TFA design with heavy IDW influence. First Aid's little doctor's coat was inspired by the Bayverse Crosshair's coat. Ratchet's design is based on his Prime, G1, IDW, and Cyberverse iterations but I took the most inspiration from his Prime design (I think Prime Ratchet is also my favorite Ratchet so I might be biased)
Before I begin designing anything, I map out the character's silhouette, it gives me a feel for the shapes I want and how they'd stand out in a lineup. Here's Wheeljack for an example.
Then I start the first draft/sketch. I just draw on top of the silhouette and adjust as I go, I'm mostly going based on what feels right to me.
Since a lot of the bots I was working with had White and Red color palettes I had to use different accent colors to break it up and I wanted to emphasize their shape language. I try to keep things from blurring together too much. I also used various off-white colors (it's very subtle) and different shades of red.
I also pull inspiration from figurines/model kits from gundams specifically-- honestly I do this mostly for the legs, I struggle a lot with making the legs look right so I look at Gundam legs for references on knee articulations and the ankles.
a lot of it is trial and error and it usually takes me more than one attempt before finalizing a design. Let me show you the monster that is my first Brainstorm attempt.
Good fucking god I have no idea what the hell I was thinking, literally the first thing I said to myself as I was finishing this was "Oh my god he is UGLY, I cannot keep him like that" he was not working out so I went back to the drawing board and worked small.
Here was my second draft of Brainstorm, I was thinking about his personality as I was working on him which I think helped a lot. Chaotically natured, I incorporated a lot of sharp shapes and I darkened his color palette to a sea green to let the red and yellow/orange accents stand out. It also emphasizes his more sinister personality while the broad yellow-accented shoulders paired with the extra red accents kind of give him this "show-off" and "full of himself" vibe.
My previous mistake was that the blue was far too bright and the orange and red were just clashing too much. Also his wings being flat against his back just did not fit him. I think I was too afraid to break to mold with Brainstorm-- Like there was this line between "This is not Brainstorm enough" or "This is too far from being Brainstorm" and then I remembered his very wise words
Then I just started to get adventurous and experimental and bam, we have Science AU Brainstorm. The major takeaway from this is don't be afraid to get wild with your designs.
In contrast, Since Prowl and Brainstorm will be seen around each other a lot, I kept Prowl's design less flashy and his palette limited, pulling heavily from IDW Prowl. It also fits his personality, he's much more serious and orderly. So when they're seen in the same drawing, there's this nice design compliment between Brainstorm and Prowl.
Another oopsies I did was initial First Aid attempt where I made his accent color orange for some reason. It looked really bad and I ended up changing it to blue which worked a lot better.
But yeah ! That's my general design process ! Play around, have fun and don't be afraid to get experimental and try some new things for designs !

Cactus fascinates me, does it run on code similar to an existing instruction set or is it completely original on that front?
What can you do with it? What's it's storage?

Both the Cactus (the original wooden prototype from years ago) and the new PCB Cactus(es) are essentially derived from a minimal 6502 computer design by Grant Searle for their core logic. Here's what that would look like on a breadboard:

There isn't much to it, it's 32K of RAM, 16K of ROM containing Ohio Scientific's version of Microsoft BASIC, a 6850 ACIA for serial interaction, some logic gates, and of course a 6502 microprocessor (NMOS or CMOS, doesn't matter which). You hook it into a terminal and away you go.
Grant's design in turn can be best described as a distilled, modernized version of the OSI Challenger series of computers. Here's an OSI-400 and a Challenger 4P respectively:

The left one is a replica of the 400 circa 1976, also called the Superboard. It was affordable, endlessly reconfigurable and hackable, but ultimately very limited in capabilities. No BASIC, minimal monitor ROM you talk to over serial, but you could connect it to a bus to augment its features and turn it into a more powerful computer.
Whereas the OSI C4P on the right from about 1979 has more RAM, a video card, keyboard, BASIC built in, serial interface, cassette tape storage, and that's just the standard configuration. There was more room to expand and augment it to your needs inside the chassis (alot changed in 3 years for home computer users).
Grant's minimal 6502 design running OSI BASIC is a good starter project for hobbyists. I learned about the 6502's memory map decoding from his design. I modified and implemented his design on a separate cards that could connect to a larger backplane.

Here are the serial, ROM, RAM, and CPU cards respectively:

Each one is 100% custom, containing many modifications and fixes as I developed the design. However, that's only half of the computer.
I really wanted a 6502 machine with a front panel. People told me "nobody did that", or couldn't think of examples from the 1970s but that seemed really strange to me. Especially since I had evidence to the contrary in the form of the OSI-300:

This one I saw at VCF West back in 2018 illustrates just how limited of a design it is. 128 bytes of RAM, no ROM, no serial -- just you, the CPU, and toggle switches and LEDs to learn the CPU. I was inspired the first time I saw one in 2015 at VCF East, which is probably when this whole project got set in motion.
Later that year I bought a kit for a miniature replica OSI-300 made by Christopher Bachman, and learned really quickly how limited the design philosophy for this particular front panel was. It was a major pain in the ass to use (to be clear, that's by OSI's choice, not any fault of Christopher in his implementation)
So... I designed my own. Took awhile, but that's the core of what the Cactus is: my attempt at experiencing the 1970s homebrew scene by building the computer I would have wanted at the time. Over half of the logic in the Cactus is just to run the front panel's state machine, so you can examine and modify the contents of memory without bothering the 6502. I added in all of the things I liked from more advanced front panels I had encountered, and designed it to my liking.
Here's the original front panel, accompanying logic, and backplane connected to the modern single board computer (SBC) version of the machine:

And here's the new Cactus SBC working with the new front panel PCB, which combines the logic, physical switch mountings, and cabling harnesses into a single printed circuit board.

So, what can you do with it? Pretty much the same things I do already with other contemporary 1970s computers: play around in BASIC, fire up the occasional game, and tinker with it.
I've got no permanent storage designed for the Cactus as yet, it's been one of those "eventually" things. The good news is that a variety of software can be ported to the hardware without too much trouble for an experienced hobbyist. A friend of mine wrote a game called ZNEK in 6502 assembly which runs from a terminal:

Right now, you have to either toggle in machine programs from the front panel from scratch, burn a custom ROM, or connect it to a serial terminal to gain access to its more advanced features:
Here's it booted into OSI BASIC, but I have also added in a modern descendant of Steve Wozniak's WOZMON software for when I need to do lower level debugging.
I've also got a video card now, based on the OSI-440. I have yet to implement a keyboard, or modify BASIC to use the video board instead of the serial connection. Even if I did, screen resolution is pretty limited at 24x24 characters on screen at once. Still, I'm working on that...

Anyway, I hope that answers your question. Check the tags below to see the whole process stretching back to 2017 if you're curious to learn more of the project's history. I'm also happy to answer any more questions you might have about the project.

Woe, pirates be upon ye
Alright kiddos, time for my yapping on a kids show, starting with our pirates.
Calico Jack
Loosely based upon the real John "Calico Jack" Rackham interwoven with my personal thoughts and canon. Calico was "partners" with one Anne Bonny (partners is an extremely loose term between them as it was an open secret that Bonny was really in it for her crew mate, Mary Read). Besides that, Calico and Bonny had two kits who later grew up and stayed with the crew. They were known as Elizabeth "Fangs" and William "Terrible Tabby". William so happened to pick up a wife, Louise "Whispers" Reeves. This pairing created our favorite weirdo, Kwazii.
[From left to right] Anne Bonny, Calico Jack, Elizabeth "Fangs", William "Terrible Tabby", Mary Read, Kwazii and Louise "Whispers" Reeves
Getting the family tree over with, they were a particularly infamous and treacherous crew that plundered and captured anything that set sail in the sea. When Calico was 45 and Kwazii 6, operations hit the fan. In a changing ocean, it came to a halt when the Ranger was boarded following a scuffed raid. All except Kwazii were taken prisoner (Kwazii hid and avoided capture).
At this time, the punishment for piracy was, of course, d e a t h. However, to ensure that in the slim chance one did escape the rope, declawing would be performed. The authorities were right to do so, as Calico was able to slip away just before it was his time. He had attempted to break out his crew, only to find Bonny and Read missing and Fangs, Terrible and Whispers long gone. He escaped, finding Kwazii hidden at Port and commandeered another, smaller, ship to sail off with.
It was just the pair of them until Kwazii turned 13. They were on the run and have been unable to rest as long as The Calico Jack was still alive. So, Calico decided to spare Kwazii that fate. He left Kwazii in a fishing village with the story of "I'm going after some of the most dangerous treasure in the Amazon, I need you to stay here and watch yourself while I go."" Sailed out into the sea, taunted some royal ships, made a show of 'dying in a storm' and fell off the face of the earth, allowing "Calico Jack" to die.
He lived in isolation in the Amazon with his parrot and had time to think over everything he'd done. He regretted leaving Kwazii alone but knew it was for the best after what happened to the crew.
Kwazii
We know the story of the goober, but all I can say for MY story is that he came into contact with the Octonauts after trying to steal one of the gups. At the time, there were only three crew members: Inkling, Tweak, and Barnacles. So happened Barnacles was on that gup. What happened is anyone's guess, but the two left the gup, Barnacles covered in scratches and Kwazii soaking wet in sea water, as friends. Kwazii was kept on probation for trying to steal a gup but was allowed to stay on the (then very new and very in development) Octopod. He quickly proved himself to be a very good crew mate and eventually became Lieutenant. Up until finding Calico, everyone believed Kwazii was just a big fan of pirates (except Barnacles who knew of the incident and its details).
Little Bits
- Calico Jack is declawed, meaning he's missing the bone from the final knuckle (fingertips for us). He has golden prosthetics that help him, though they aren't very effective. They're mostly just for show and secondary weaponry.
- Calico is uneasy around Barnacles. Most likely, due to Barnacle's sounding like a British Royal Navy Official. Also, because he's a huge Polar Bear.
- Calico will not allow any doctor of any shape or form examine him (especially Peso). He hides away whenever he is hurt, insisting upon fixing it himself. He still remembers the last time a doctor got near him.
- Checks in with Kwazii frequently now that he has an octowatch. Though this means often getting face timed at 3 a.m., Kwazzi doesn't mind it.
- Has chronic pain in his hands due to the declawing.
- Lost most of his jewelry the first time he was captured, literally broke. He prefers living off the land but will gladly accept any fish biscuits or food Kwazii brings.
- He only wants the best for Kwazii, so when Paani came along, he gladly accepted him into the family. Calico often takes Paani exploring in more remote regions to show him any and all lakes, ponds, and rivers since "you like water, right? I like water too! Here, look at this puddle in the middle of nowhere."
- Calico doesn't smell as bad as one would expect. He smells like citrus and sea breeze. Unlike Kwazii, who smells like he just crawled out of a dentists office.
- Calico has a fear of places with less than 2 exits. He rarely enters the octopod or gups due to this. He always needs an exit in eyesight to feel safe.
Thanks for coming to the yapping session! Have some sketches too

Life Hack - Office Worker Self Care Kit
Here's a little life hack I've developed as a person who's worked in some kind of office environment for most of their adult life. If you have a personal workstation with the capacity for a small storage bin and the security to leave personal items on a longterm basis (i.e. in a locked drawer), make yourself a self-care kit. It's a lifesaver on the days when you've run late or just aren't feeling your best.
All it takes is a shoebox-sized storage bin with a secure lid. You can use inexpensive items and travel-sized containers to save space, and personalize the contents to your own needs. Don't worry about keeping a huge supply of anything - just a few emergency backups. And don't leave anything in the kit that would get you in trouble with the bosses or that you'd regret losing, just in case.
Here's what I keep in mine:
Travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste
Travel-sized deodorant
Mini bottle of dry shampoo
Folding hairbrush with mirror and spare scrunchie
Tweezers, nail clippers, and emery board
Travel-sized facial cleanser and small silicon scrub pad
Small tins of moisturizer and hand cream
Small bottle of hand sanitizer
Small bottle of medicine for aches and pains
Packets of medicine for stomach trouble
Period supplies (pads, tampons, and one of those warming packs for cramp relief)
A few bandaids and alcohol wipes
Bottle of clear nail polish (trust me)
Laundry pen for removing stains
Travel-sized bottle of fabric refresher spray
Spare bottle of energy drink
Spare earbuds
Spare charge cable
A couple of disposable face masks
Emergency breath-freshening gum
Emergency granola bar (replace often)
Emergency bundle of liquid concealer, mascara, brow pencil, and tinted chapstick (this covers MANY sins)
And yes, this all fits into the bin with room to spare. Some of it the smaller items are stowed together in cheap pencil cases, just to make it easier to find things quickly.
This is something you can also keep in your car or have ready to toss into your luggage if you travel often. It's also great for keeping in your locker (if you're able to do so) just for those OH NO moments during the school day. And you can customize the contents to your personal needs.
(Pro-tip: Makeup and skin care are for EVERYONE.)

“Gundam Assemble is a tabletop strategy game where players use miniature Gunpla figures to create armies and engage in tactical battles,” said Tatsuro Kawashima, who built the mechanical system that the game is based on. “The core gameplay is focusing on the strategic unit placement, actually playing these objective-based missions. So it is designed to appeal to both hardcore miniatures gamers and the casual fan of the Gundam franchises. The game draws inspiration from miniature wargames — from 40K, to BattleTech, to Star Wars: Shatterpoint. Bandai is aiming to create an experience that’s accessible for new players while allowing strategic depth for the seasoned gamer.” Bandai explained that players will be in control of a Gundam team. They will then use that team to play through a story-driven campaign with objectives linking individual missions. “I think it’s most similar to BattleTech [...] but so far it’s a little bit difficult to [share] the details,” said Kawashima. “The basic concept is to play a big team featuring your favorite mobile suits. However, since this is a game based on Gundam IP, we also want to offer special scenarios, limited battles that evoke the original storyline to help the player to feel connected to the source material.” As far as terrain or other accessories, Bandai has not yet finalized what will come with Gundam Assemble The final product will likely include the game board, dice, and cards that show the details of each unit in-game — and in-fiction, including details like Gundam height. While hex-based movement is integral to the game at this time, Bandai said that it hasn’t ruled out other gameplay modes that use rulers or other tools to allow units to move more freely. That means massed battles of Gunpla could be on the horizon — but for now, at least, the company is laser-focused on this smaller footprint game. For the designers at Bandai, it was particularly important to translate the intricate detail of their large, elaborate models to the smaller size of a tabletop miniature. That meant actually making them a bit bigger than traditional 28 mm- or 32 mm-scale models. At 5 centimeters (roughly 2 inches) tall, each Gunpla miniature will tower over a traditional 40K Assault Intercessor, and will even have a bit of reach on a Captain in Gravis armor. They’re also very highly detailed. “Many of the models in this Assemble kit are based on existing High Grade Gunpla [kits],” said Jun Someya, a member of the Gundam Assemble planning and development staff. “In order to efficiently create cool poses with a small number of parts, the angle of the arms has been carefully adjusted. For parts that would not otherwise be visible, they were purposefully omitted or molded [in place].” Of course, most model-makers don’t paint their Gunpla. Tabletop gamers often do paint their miniatures, though, and Bandai is hoping its design will cater to their unique needs — especially folks who are looking to build up their “shelf army.” “We thought the size would satisfy customers who display their individual miniatures,” Someya said. “Also, the size would be perfect for painting Gundams, which have very small faces and armor plates. Maybe it would be bigger than other products, but we felt that 5 centimeters would be perfect for both these purposes.” Expect more information on Gundam Assemble soon. Early figures will be sold in special bundles with the Gundam Card Game — which Bandai confirmed is a completely separate product.

Prowler by David Buckley, in Sinclair Projects, Aug/Sep & Dec/Jan 1983. Prowler is a low-cost, expandable micro robot vehicle, controlled by a host computer. "So far the available robotic add-ons have needed either complex software to interface them to a home computer or have been too costly, or too big. The BBC Buggy costs more than £100 and even Zeaker, the latest of the add-ons, costs slightly more than £50. Projects Prowler in its first stage of development should cost about £20. Prowler consists of a converted remote-controlled s-scale tank kit, with a circuit board holding some electronics to control the motors, lights, horn and later some bump sensors." – Prowler control adds movement to the ZX81, Sinclair Projects

DP OC PARADE: Day 1/ INTRODUCTION

Name: Dionysia Nova
Half greek half american Female
Nickname: Dia (dubbed by Danny)
Birthday: 24th of April
Age: 15-16yo
Species: Halfa
-Vegan metalhead, kickboxing champ
(Listens mostly to nu metal and power metal, her guilty pleasure is emo bands and refuses to admit it.)
MORE LORE UNDER THE CUT:
-Parentified eldest daughter so she takes the Mom Friend™ role of the friend group very seriously. Always there to lend a hand and support. Proactive and prepared for emergencies with a first aid kit (for Danny and herself), tissues, disinfectant, extra snacks (Sam's fav vegan protein bars), painkillers, water, screen wipes (for Tucker's glasses) etc in her backpack. She's very open with expressing physical affection to her loved ones but she kinda short circuits when others express it towards her.
-Generally very timid and doesn't take much personally, she conserves her limited energy for important manners but she absolutely won't hesitate to punch, kick or bite anything and anyone if provoked. Especially if her loved ones are threatened.
Human Lore: she transferred to Casper High after her mom and dad separated. Her mom took a proposal for her dream job back to her homeland and Dia decided to follow her after getting expelled from her old school, unfortunately leaving her brother behind with her father and abandoning her athletic career. Sam ecstatic to see another alternative girl like herself in the school urges the boys to adopt her in the trio. As 15 year olds, the boys are hesitant at first, thinking that Sam was the only girl capable of hanging out with them. They are quickly proven wrong when Dia turns out to have a lot in common with them so they quickly develop an affinity for her and embrace her in the friendgroup.
After hanging out with the group for a whole semester and accidentally finding out about Danny's secret identity, she takes on the role of ground support for him alongside Sam and Tucker. Using their combined wits, talents and ofc Fenton tech/weapons. She's accumulated plenty of martial prowess due to her experience as a kickboxing champion so her close range weapon is the Fenton Gauntlets and for long range damage she utilises her sharp aim with the Fenton Ecto-Sniper.
Halfa Lore: Months pass and missions are going quite smoothly with everyone's contribution, that is until a particular recon mission in the Ghost Zone. While Jazz and Dia were providing insights to the Specter Speeder via the lab computers, an unforeseen threat chased after the Speeder damaging one of it's thrusters in the process, the Speeder came crushing through the Fenton Portal, damaging it's ectofiltrator panel, lightly injuring Danny, Sam and Tucker on board and almost dragging Jazz in it's collision path into the lab. The damage to the portal caused it to have a small combustion. Unfortunately Dia's back was facing the explosion while trying to help Jazz up and away from it, it caused a huge burn on her back and contaminated her all the way to the nerve with ectoplasm. The team panicked and desperate to save their friend, asked for Vlad's assistance since he seemed to have experience on this type of ecto-injury. With his help the contamination turned Dia into a halfa within a weekend (the Fenton's were away visiting Aunt Alicia). Of course Vlad sees this as the perfect opportunity to once again try and acquire a halfa child of his own after his last failed attempt with Dani. While Dia is recovering and slowly manifesting her ghost powers Vlad tries to manipulate her away from the team, weaponising her insecurity as the new kid who's having difficulties fitting in. After the team catches wiff of his plan they are quick to pull Dia back to their side. Sam designed Dia's suit to help her feel part of the team.
Ghost Powers: a water core manifested due to her ability to adapt in situations. Her powers are violet hued and include the basic ecto-blasts, rays and shields. Her water powers work as a reinforcement to boost Danny's ice powers and if used incorrectly, also as a conduit to Vlad's electrical powers.
Fighting Style: Close range kickboxing with ecto-charged limbs and short shields, for long range she uses beams, shots and waves. She has the ability to change the temperature of the water she casts. She can also create fluid ecto-constructs like weapons. Fighting style similar to Danny's since he's the one training her but she prefers working as his cover and defence while he goes on the offence.
Instead of a ghost wail she develops a banshee scream that shuts down most electronics in the vicinity and stunts enemies and allies alike. The Fentonphones have the ability to minimise the affects on the wearers. She scarcely uses this power since it can also damage her allies.
Her ghost sense manifests as a release of a steamed sigh instead of a frosty exhale like Danny's.
The burn from the explosion healed into a scar that resembles cracked glass and covers most of her back, back of neck and back of upper arms. The scars light up when ecto-energy runs through them.
Ghost Alias: Supernova (might change it later idk still workshopping it) Phantom's support and defence, started out as his sidekick until she evolved with training to be his equal ally.
Relationships: Sam's best galpal. Very close friends with Danny and Tucker. The 4 of them hang out all the time trying to have fun like regular teens but also find themselves constantly tangled in ghostly shenanigans. Dia helps Sam realise that they're both just like other girls and that's okay. Through that Sam, Dia, Dani, Valerie and Jazz start having girl-nights to strengthen their friendship. As an eldest daugher/sister she finds a lot of common ground with Jazz. She tries to not make the same mistake as Danny by developing a crush on Valerie but she loves their sparring sessions as seasoned martial artists a bit too much. Sam, Val and Dia also become gym buddies and constantly push each other to get stronger and more adept in different martial arts.
Dia's mother travels a lot for work so she's mostly alone in the apartment, she can't stand the silence so she first adopts a stray cat she found behind the school dumpsters and named her Liz. After meeting Dani in the Ghost Zone and having a while rescue mission arc with her, she then also proposes to "adopt" Dani so she can have a stable roof while the group tries to figure out what to do with the whole clone situation. She acts like an older sister to her mostly because she empathises with the girl and cares deeply for her but also because she misses her own younger brother back in Greece.
Her unsupervised apartment serves as a good hangout spot for the group's gaming sessions, sleepovers, movie nights and ghostly research.
Character traits: Her gloomy appearance works as a shield of assumption, it makes people hesitant to mess with her, she's actually a sweetheart when you talk to her, but also lowkey feral under the surface. Same interests as the rest of the trio more or less. Passionate and loud about her beliefs, sharp wit and street smart but as child of two renowned academics she doesn't hold up to their expectations, she's not a great student. Compassionate and crafty, has the ability to look at a situation from multiple angles and uses her insight to be a good negotiator and to find the best compromise for everyone involved. Very self-sacrificing. Doesn't open up easily and when she does it all comes spilling out.
She loves doodling away in her sketchbook while listening to music or binging animated series during her free personal time. As a balkan kid she's kinda desensitized to underage drinking and breaking rules, if her patience runs out she will recommend the most chaotic unhinged course of action.
She feels deeply and her main objective is to ensure her loved ones are always safe and happy.
The original draft of her introduction HERE
I decided to name this AU Squared Disaster and it takes place before the canon season 3 of the series. I love this OC like she's my own daughter and I can't wait to put this lil BLORBO through situations™
Can't wait to see everyone else's OCs and their lore I'm so thankful for this event and I hope we all have a good time here!

Flynn and Trace announce new project as Nevermore Junior
To the surprise of many fans of the property, Nevermore creators Kit Trace and Kate Flynn have announced their newest project: Nevermore Junior. The new comic, aimed at readers between the ages of six and eighteen, takes the beloved Webtoon and reimagines it in a world with no triggering content, no conflict, and no unanswered questions whatsoever.
While not much is yet known of the reboot, the two creators have released a summary:
Lenore and Annabel have been best friends since they met at a slumber party at Lenore’s manor, where she lived happily with her family. When their parents send them both off to the same boarding school- Nevermore Academy- the two’s friendship is (lightly) threatened by the emergence of a whole bunch of new friends for them to make! As they navigate their average teenage social lives, they’ll have to balance friendship and classwork. The well-meaning but eccentric Deans have lots of different games for the student body to play, after all, and only one winner will get to become valedictorian!
Reporters at Nevermore News got the chance to ask both creators a few questions about the upcoming comic, and began by asking writer Trace what sparked the idea for the project.
“Readers had a lot to say about the unanswered questions in the mainline story,” they said. “Sometimes, if a question we pose isn’t answered soon enough, they start to worry it’s a plot hole. Neither of us want our readers to be confused, and we know now that the original seems to be too complex for those without fully developed brains, so we decided to create a version that they could enjoy, too.”
Flynn then treated the reporters to a sneak peek of the first two episodes, where best friends Annabel and Lenore are dropped off at the sparkling and beautiful academy by a charming steamboat. As the two start up the walk, they talk casually as a cute little deer follows along in the back, holding their suitcases. They are greeted at the front gates by Deans Merry and Mourn, two kindly young men who promise to help them along their academic journeys.
“There’s no death in Nevermore Junior- too upsetting, and not good for algorithms,” Flynn explained. “We also got rid of any spectres or supernatural elements, partially for that reason and partially because the original’s Amontillado Arc was considered too convenient, given they found an empty cellar, and bricks, and other masonry supplies. We took that critique and put what we learned from it in here- having characters gain supernatural abilities to help them along their journey was also incredibly convenient, so we wrote it out.”
“We hope that our younger and/or more sensitive and critical fans will find a new home in Nevermore Junior,” Trace concluded. “We’re still testing things out- such as character name changes, as Poe references could definitely trigger someone who had Poe-based trauma, and aging characters down so they’re more relatable. But we’re satisfied that everyone will love what we’ve created here.”
Nevermore Junior has no official release date yet, but our reporters are continuing to keep an eye on this new project as it unfolds.
