How can you still ship Dinbo when shippers have been so disrespectful to Katee AND she said it wasn’t going to be romantic?
Hello! I'm going to put most of this answer under the cut because it contains a lot of fandom discourse for one fine Sunday afternoon. But I wanted to give your question a full answer so I can direct any future questions I may receive of a similar nature to this answer because honestly, I am not a blog that revolves around shipping and I really do not want to be one! But thank you for asking a question without being aggressive, I am more than happy to answer :)
TL;DR: I hope the disrespectful idiots step on a lot of Lego. As much as I may share a ship with them, they do not speak for me and I cannot control their behaviour. I certainly do not condone it. Also, I ship Dinbo because I personally enjoy the idea of it and as much as I respect an actor’s opinion on their character, I do not necessarily have to share it. An actor should never be harassed for an opinion, that crosses an awful lot of lines that should never be crossed. I hate that that happened just as much as you do.
Ultimately I believe in ship and let ship. I stand against harassing real life people over fiction and more than anything: always always ALWAYS treat others with kindness!
Firstly, want to start off this answer by saying that I absolutely love Katee, she’s great and she brought SO MUCH to the character of Bo. I am thrilled she was able to portray her in all her forms, we're so lucky. To make such a successful leap from animation to live action is testament to how talented she is as an actress and I feel like she deserves so much more praise than she gets. It’s sad because in all of her comment sections after Mando S3 there were endless disgusting 2% jokes after ONE tiny comment she made on a much longer podcast appearance where she shared much more interesting stories. I think that was maybe the same one as she spoke a little about Dinbo but tbh, I haven't actually watched it because I can't stand podcasts... they make me cringe 😭
Anyway, those basement-dwellers focused on borderline sexually harassing her because of how attractive she is to them, rather than appreciating her talent. That just… absolutely sucks for her. I feel terrible for her. It was so widespread too and lasted for months… really hard to watch, tbh. But as far as I’m aware, it wasn’t Dinbo shippers that were leaving those comments.
Now, that’s not to deny that Dinbo shippers have taken things too far at some point, I’m sure they have! It wouldn't be the first time shippers in a fandom have crossed a line and sadly, it won't be the last. But I personally didn’t see it because I try and stay out of fandom discourse as much as I can. I really only have the energy and appetite to interact with the chill, respectful people on my little corner of the internet. If I ever saw anything that disrespected her, I would 100% call it out.
However, I do know there was that one panel appearance where people booed her or something? Ngl, I never watched the clip because just hearing about it made me cringe too much… (wow I really have a low tolerance for these things). I think, though, that it is a case of entitled assholes being entitled assholes, regardless of what they ship. It isn't a ship that makes them behave that way, that's the excuse, but really it's their idiotic, selfish nature. I think it would be a shame, then, to tarnish entire groups of people who might be enjoying a ship in a perfectly respectful way with that same brush, I don’t think that helps keep fandom spaces kind places to be. Absolutely screw all the people who have been disrespectful to Katee, I don’t condone that AT ALL. But equally, I am not responsible for actions of everyone who happens to ship the same thing as I do.
As much as I admire Katee and she absolutely DOES NOT DESERVE ANY NEGATIVITY FROM FANS, she is an actor at the end of the day. An actor’s opinion on a character is exactly that... their opinion. They portray them as their personal interpretation of the character and how they’re directed to, of course. I'm not arrogant or deluded enough to believe I know more about Bo-Katan Kryze than the person who portrayed her. I don't at all think that, but I think I can still disagree with Katee's opinion because, y'know, I'm human and humans don't always agree on everything.
The great thing about media is that audience can come away with a totally different view of the same character. Once the work is out there in the world, it takes on a life of its own, for better or worse. Sometimes beyond what even the creator intended originally. It’s like, for example, after you finish reading a book and you discover that other readers interpreted the exact same words in a completely different way. Some of those opinions you might agree with or entertain, some you completely disagree with and wonder how the hell they can even think such a thing. A portion of such interpretations probably aren’t even what the author intended, like this golden piece of tumblr history: the curtains were fucking blue.
This kind of thing has happened to me with my own writing before! People thinking a plot will go in a completely different way to what I intended. It's always a strange feeling, but as long as you don’t berate the author/fellow readers with different opinions, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to draw your own conclusions about it. After all, art is meant to be interpreted in many different ways. That’s the beauty of engaging with and creating art, to me.
At the end of the day, we're all bony sacks of meat with our own individual lizard brains and it would be boring if we all thought the same! Of course I still respect Katee’s opinion. If she says she wasn’t playing Bo to have romantic feelings towards Din then I’m not going to say she’s lying or get frustrated at her! That’s genuinely how she played it. Equally, it won’t really change my opinion because I know what I, personally, believe I saw in their interactions! Katee is more than welcome to share her thoughts, I would never think that she should stay quiet because I disagree with what she said… but equally I don’t have to let her words stop me from shipping something I enjoy! Plus I don’t think any of the cast know how Mando will end. Maybe they have some general plot ideas set out but nothing is final yet.
Ultimately, I’m equally happy for Din to end up with Bo or another love interest, if it makes sense for his character and feels right for the story, as I am for it just to be him and Grogu. The love he has for Grogu will always be the most important thing in his life. Loving a child like that changes you as a person and I love that we got to see how he evolved into a much better man because of it. Not to be a simp or anything but he truly is the best man in the world and I love him so much my chest aches.
A final point: I think if we just took actors and creators’ words as gospel then fandom would ultimately become a much duller place to be. Speculation and shipping are FUN (when done respectfully, of course). There’s so long to wait between seasons that if I just watched Mando repeatedly and never considered a different way to view the story… I just think it would be boring for me, personally. Enjoy the show however you want, watch it and interpret it however you want...but equally I will do the same! If you don’t share my ships and headcanons then that’s totally fine, as long as we can both respect each other and not lose our humanity.
Like I’ve said before, I welcome ALL Din ships and headcanons for Din or indeed for any characters. We may disagree on some of them, but ultimately, I am not right and you are not wrong… we’re all just nerds on the internet. And I’ll always try to make my blog a friendly, welcoming place to be for anyone who stops by, I really take that vow to you and anyone reading this very seriously.
I hope that answers your question and you can see where I’m coming from. I'm glad to have said my piece and I think any future questions I get like this, I'll just direct to this answer because it really sums up how I feel.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far. I just wanted to end this with what I said at the beginning: ship and let ship, don’t harass real life people over fiction and treat others with kindness… that’s my philosophy and it’s one that I’ll always stick by :)

So.. I just saw several people in the comments of a cute s3 BTS photo Katee posted on Instagram calling and imagining her literal newborn daughter as Bo and Din's baby.. Dinbo shippers are known for being icky to say the least but guys, what the hell.
It reminds me of that person on Twitter going about "omg Din and Bo must be a couple and is she already pregnant because Greef offered Din a cabin for his family, but what family??" .
Sorry for this super random ask, I'm so uncomfortable with this fandom and they just seem to keep getting worse ;-; I'm all for some shipping in good fun but this is seriously beginning to cross some boundaries.
Bestiessssss… this is baddddd. Ships are all fun and games until it’s getting projected onto the actual actors/actresses themselves. No matter your ship, and no matter how much the actors/actresses are endorsing it, this kind of stuff is just notttttt okay. 😭

This is sorta where my Din and Bo hang out right now.
I think Tom and Chyler skipped this part and jumped right in the deep end 😆
personally i find the binary of “lets make every relationship in media gay” vs “no the creator was trying to say something important about friendship” stifling …. you guys are completely ignoring the possibility of platonic-romantic limbo where you would definitely kiss your friend if they asked but by god you are not going to make a move first . friends can and should be a little in love with each other actually

Thank you!
Tumblr media
Dinbo week has concluded and I want to thank everyone for putting in the hard work to create all the beautiful content for this week. I am still catching up on fanfic! I will still reblog any late submissions for the next week. Just tag #dinboweek2024 so I see your work.
I want to give a special shout out to the Dinbo Discord for helping me brainstorm many of the ideas and prompts for this week. Thank you for your help and encouragement to organize this week.
It's still surreal how many of us went into season 3 convinced Din and Bo-Katan would be adversaries only for them to become great friends, found family, and now shipped together. The online discourse surrounding Dinbo can be frustrating but the positivity is louder.
Thank you again for all your hard work this week. Dinbo week is going to be an annual event every March so be on the lookout!
Here is a link to the fanfiction collections.

The shipping discourse is getting super weird. I love shipping - I’ve been doing it since I was about 12 yo (so that’s, uhhh… a long time…) but I have no vested interest really in what ends up being canon, and I’m certainly not going to fight anyone over it, especially not my fellow fans.
Katee Sackhoff’s recent comments are strongly suggestive of a DinBo relationship in canon but we still haven’t seen any confirmation of that. She may just be a shipper herself, and that’s coloring her responses. But who knows? She obviously knows a lot more than we do. Fans don’t determine canon, unfortunately - the story is written how it’s written.
Enjoy your fanfiction and your daydreams. We don’t need to fight or ridicule our fellow fans (or our wonderful actors) over this. Nobody wins or loses. Keep fandom fun!

Sending this on anon -
I think there is a latent amount of misogyny in the star wars fandom that people aren't ready to face lol.
Like there was so much hate for RebelCaptain and Bix x Cassian (MechanicThief? Bixian?) After andor, and we were called homophobic for 'not wanting to ship' the mlm ships, and I'm like???!! First of all multiplies exist, and second of all, complex, dramatic, well written ships also should exist!
And I'm now seeing the same pattern where it's encouraged to ship Din with the men, but not with the women
I think that a lot of fans really need to look within their consumption and see if they're really looking for representation, or for Ken dolls they can experiment with.
DinBo is so fascinating and I really can't wait to see how they develop
oh y'all want me to get spicy. i'm gonna put his under a read more.
i don't even think it's latent. the female characters receive an excessive amount of hatred or are pitted against each other. i've been in fandom spaces a long, long, long time so i know it's sadly nothing new but people have a hard time accepting that not all the misogyny comes from men.
there is no quarter for woman characters like jyn erso and bo-katan. they will never please. especially when they may have possible romantic relationships with the male leads.
i have thoughts on the shipping atmosphere for the mandalorian and it's not positive.
i am very much a ship and let ship person. i prefer to stay in my lane and enjoy what i enjoy. no harm no foul.
but i do find it -- shall we say interesting -- that bo-katan and din have a multiple episode arc where they develop a deeper understanding of each other overcoming their differences from when they first met but is met with the attitude of ew no cooties. it is fine to prefer a more sibling dynamic between the two but some have been really nasty about others shipping it romantically.
i didn't even really ship it at first but it's grown on me over the course of the season. they compliment each other and have a lot of protentional to explore.
it's one thing to not like a ship but i've seen a lot of language that i consider problematic and outright anti behavior of labeling something you don't like with dog whistles of incest, grooming, toxic and disgusting when it's in fact none of those things at all. just say you don't ship it and keep stepping.
like, the most popular din ship over the past two years has been dinluke which is a perfectly acceptable ship but in canon they've exchanged like a handful of words in one scene. it's fanon.
the armorer and bo-katan has become a popular ship which is again built on a few interactions.
but somehow din and bo are terrible, no good and gross.
we don't even have canon sexualities for these characters and headcanons are not canon. hell, i personally see din on the ace spectrum and bo makes sense to me as bi but that's my headcanon.
this is also not dean winchester being based of a bisexual character and fifteen years of evidence of subtext or stiles stilinski's bisexual baiting by jeff davis on teen wolf.
i get the desire for more lgbta+ representation in star wars but a heterosexual relationship existing is not your enemy and if you think it is than you are part of the problem.

Bruh, I met someone before character x reader was even A Thing that openly admitted to be possessive of characters. She was like, "Oh yeah, I usually hate all of the female characters because I want the guy to be mine." Yeah, everyone has their own headcanons and stuff because that's how things happen. But jfc chill out with the hatred or have the decency to keep it out of the tags. Let me enjoy my ship in peace. I've been a Bo fan since TCW she deserves Good Things. Let her have this. (1/2)
Anon, continued: This is literally fiction and it's not that deep. I also feel like people forget/ignore/refuse to accept that they can just ignore canon? All because the source material does something doesn't mean you have to follow it. It's not Canon or It's Erased From Existence. There's no little trophy for ""winning"". I've been around in fandom a long time and this stuff still gets on my nerves. If you aren't having a good time then leave. No one is holding you here against your will. (2/2)
I merged your posts so I could answer it in one reply.
Yes, everything you said is 100% facts. There are certainly the people out there who are a little out of touch with reality, and this is a big fandom, so we have more than our fair share. I do think that the character x reader fics have exacerbated the issue though, because I feel like I'm seeing a LOT more people citing "jealousy" as their reason for not shipping canon couples. That's all anecdotal, I haven't gone back and counted posts or anything, but I'm definitely seeing a trend.
Westerners tend to get very particular about canon and what does and does not fall into that category. But we are also huge creative contributers to the "fanon" side of things, and I think it's best that we have a balance. For instance, I don't have a lot of good things to say about the sequels (particularly TRoS), but you'll never catch me saying, "that's not canon because George Lucas didn't write it" or because "I didn't like what was written". If I find something I don't like and I feel strongly enough about it, I'll write my own content.
In regards to ships, I think it just projects insecurity to go into the ship tags just to drag a ship. Maybe go generate discourse, like "which ship do you prefer and why?" We have polls now, so that's great. But for someone to take an ask like the one you just gave me, and then use it to list all the reasons you don't like the ship and finish it up by tagging the ship in question is obnoxious. Or they just drop in with a negative original post to hate on a ship. Just make an anti tag. It ain't hard.

Ik i sent you an ask recently but I've been looking at a lot of your dinbo art again and I'm currently watching Clone Wars and something about it keeps making me laugh bc now all I'm thinking about is Din and Obi-Wan (kind of) being brother-in-laws 😂 just about the only thing they have in common is a love for spitfire women.
I kinda rambled there but once again thank you for your service
This is a bit different from the original post, but I saw a meme about it and thought it was funny 😆 thanks for the suggestion!

I saw plenty of Armorbo/Nitearmor fans being super rude to Katee when she said she shipped Dinbo, AND Emily when she disapproved of the ship. Nobody tries to use that as an excuse to order people to stop shipping that pairing, nor should they. Same goes for Dinbo.
Ooh wow... I didn't know that :/ that's really terrible. I feel bad for them. But honestly, I shouldn't be surprised because the Star Wars fandom is infamous for its complete inability to separate actors from the characters they portray. But you're right, no one should try to stop others shipping it because of that. All we can do is call out the unacceptable behaviour and not tarnish everyone who ships the pairings with the same brush. It really is a personality issue that makes people behave in this way and has no correlation whatsoever to enjoying a certain ship. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Reblogging this again because I'm all fired up at the fact that they seem to be pushing a Din/white lady pairing WHEN AN INTERRACIAL SHIP WITH NO WHITE PEOPLE IS *RIGHT* THERE WITH MANDOMERA
Let WOC be fucking love interests dammit!!
I'm seriously gonna riot if they pair up Din/Bo, it makes no sense, it's an insult to both Din and Omera as characters (it's ridiculously out of character for Din to be attracted to Bo-Katan after the way they reacted to each other in season 2 😒)
Seriously, WHY can't Omera just be his love interest?? He's clearly attracted to her, there's actual chemistry, AND SHE'S NOT WHITE
LET. WOC. BE. LOVE. INTERESTS
it makes me so mad knowing that the mandalorian show runners are pushing away din’s woc former love interest just to start up something bo-katan
i don’t even like the direction they’re going in within giving din a love interest at all but omera is literally Right there. she’s an established character who we have seen interact with din. they had a genuine connection and actual… chemistry? unlike din and bo-katan that ultimately feels forced and a little awkward
i feel like they’re trying to force this to have bo-katan support din’s new reign as the mand’alor, to act as a mentor, but they could have done that platonically. two former “enemies” banding together on the foundation of rebuilding their culture is undeniably more powerful than basing their reasoning to work together on romance
there is sooo much to discover about omera and so much potential for her and din. they’re both so… Mysterious. omera is a widow on a desolate, peaceful planet who can somehow work a shotgun?? what the hell happened there???? din and omera have so much to discover about each other, they should kiss!!!

Sabezra Dinbo Solidarity Week Rules:
Now that we’ve given you guys an overview of what the week is about and the prompts for each day, let’s get into what rules must be followed in order to participate!
All content created must include BOTH sabezra and dinbo! This is a joint ship week that means this week is about both pairings! This is why we gave you guys two months to make content instead of the standard one month most ship weeks have because this ship week involves double the pairings! That means if you’re doing art you need to have both dinbo and sabezra present in your pieces. If you’re writing a fic you must have both couples be equally involved in it, you can’t just write a sabezra fic with dinbo as a side pairing and vice versa. The only exception being you are allowed to create separate pieces for the ships but they have to connect in some way! For example if you decide to create tarot card designs for the free day and you do one card for dinbo and one for sabezra that’s perfectly fine but you must either post them together or include a link to the other piece somewhere on each separate post.
No negativity allowed! We know that both sabezra and dinbo shippers have been handling their haters maturely so we really don’t need to state this as a rule but we’re going to anyway just in case. The reason we started this ship week is to spread positivity around two shipping communities who have received an undeserved amount of hate. Therefore, we should not be bringing that toxicity into the ship week. None of the content created for the week should be mocking other ships or opinions. We’re just here to celebrate the ships and opinions we enjoy not to remind everyone of the beliefs of our haters! And trust me (Emily), I’ve been in fandom long enough to know that us merely existing in fandom and creating content for a pairing we love and being happy about it will make haters far more miserable than any discourse possibly could
All content created must be tagged as #sabezradinboweek this is how we’re going to find the pieces that people create for the week and reblog them here! So you must use that tag or we will not see it!
You’re also allowed to post your pieces on other social medias as well not just tumblr! There will be a collection set up on Ao3 for all of the fics and if people want to post their art on instagram and twitter you are more than welcome to do so!
If you have any other questions feel free to send and ask to the blog!

I don't know what to think about that Brendan/Dinbo discourse. I understand how his quote was a little clumsy in its wording, obviously a woman doesn't have to forgo romance to be strong and independent, but at the same time... I 100% agree that a Din/Bo romance would have felt out of place? Like, it would have felt cheap. How many times have we seen two protagonist of opposite gender ending together just because they spent time together? Gimme a rest. Cinema's not lacking any of those. Star Wars' not lacking any of those. The Mandalorian's focus is on family and bonds, and it's great as it is. Romance would have changed everything about the characters motivations and watered down their -fairly interesting- dynamic to 'I'm attracted to you so I'm gonna do this for you'. Not bad in itself, but it feels less powerful, to me, than two people coming to term with their differences and learning to respect and trust each other because they're decent and mature enough to grow (and then maybe develop feelings). If there had been hints of chemistry since the beginning, it would have been a different story, but they don't, they barely becomes friends at the half of season 3. I'm sorry, but Bo doesn't care about Din in season 2, and Din doesn't care much about her then either. They're just using each other for a long time. Making them magically attracted to each other would have been so out of left field (just their strange amicability from chapter 18 feels like a switch out of nowhere). Maybe later in the future, but as of now, it would have taken away a lot of uniqueness in Bo-Katan's journey to have her obviously fall in love with her male counterpart. But it's Dinbo, say anything about it and you'll get burned alive, so hey.
This is how I feel, too! I, of course, respect anyone who does ship them and power to them, but I agree in the sense that it would've been an odd choice at this point in both their respective journeys. With them just barely tolerating one another at the beginning of the season... idk, I just couldn't see it happening, at least in this season.

Oh yeah Mando finale tonight. This season has been unbelievable awful and I am completely expecting an underwhelming or generic finale, but at this point I’m fine with anything as long dinbo does not happen lmao, it’s truly over if we get a love confession before Din calling Grogu his son. I already know there’s going to be so much discourse in the aftermath and some people will probably defend the season with their life, but for the majority of us who did not wait years for whatever this is it’s been fun at least screaming about it with you guys. Anyways I love Din and Grogu so much and the fandom we’ve built around them, Jon, Dave, and Disney can kiss my ass, and can’t wait for this shitshow to end :)
