As someone who has worked with kids a lot now
It is getting easier to spot when things are done for kids by people who don't have much experience with kids

Bones, bones, bones, bones, and more bones~
I dissected an owl pellet! I honestly stimmed so much, I didn't think going hands on in an owl pellet would give me such serotonin. But it did! And my vert zoo teacher was so kind enough for me to keep two skulls I found! Yippie!! :DDD

the fun thing is is that ppl who "like dark humour" are especially annoying when you actually like dark humour
like me and my ma and my brother make jokes about my dad oding and how when we dumped his ashes the fish got high and shit and then joke about going to hell or how dad would laugh with us
but then you have someone who will just say a slur and be like "god its just a joke chill out"
until your coming up with the comedic genuis of calling your group of friends the dead dad musketeers you dont get to act like your a comedian

Very specific request for recommendations:
One of the things I do with my students is owl pellet dissection to identify the small rodents and occasional birds contained within. I have two big sacks of the things, from two different sites. As one of their assessments, they analyse a set number of pellets each, then share their data to get a bigger dataset, then discuss the biodiversity difference between the two sites. All good and fun. One of them once took home a bird skull and made it into a necklace.
Here is the sticky part: the database where they share their data.
Now, I am currently using an Excel spreadsheet that I host on my work OneDrive, which I share to Moodle and allow editing access. This means I format the spreadsheet, then they can access and add their data. Central place, they can easily copy and paste the data into their own Excel file to manipulate as they want, and I can see who has uploaded and who hasn't; for each pellet, one column asks for their name, and then the others list the potential organisms and they simply number how many of each they found. Boom. Easy.
BUT, it carries the inherent risk of one of my intelligent, capable and highly skilled students accidentally deleting/overwriting other people's entries in a moment of digital clumsiness and stupidity. This year, one of them forgot it was the shared document, and so did all the data analysis in it where everyone could see/plagiarise. This is Not Ideal.
So, I'm looking for some sort of digital tool that I can use, very preferably link to Moodle for easy access, will allow the students to download the whole collaborated dataset, and won't let them delete anyone else's entries. It also needs to be free. It doesn't need to do anything fancy - they can download into Excel if they want to manipulate it. I just want an easy central repository for this data.
Any recommendations from anyone?

as part of my "time to stop moping around your apartment and do things" push, I have signed up for a bunch of stuff that I like or at least is off the beaten path---historical walking tours, jazz operas, a class where you dissect an owl pellet and turn it into jewelry, glass working, etc. I'm looking forward to it! I love doing weird things, and then the polite-but-taken-aback expression people get when I tell them what I've been up to.
that said, never have I experienced such deep, passionate disappointment as when I saw this....

Owls were my favorite animals as a kid. I dissected their pellets in school to study all the cool fully intact animal skeletons to learn how they consumed their prey whole. I collected all the books in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series (which I thought were better than even Warrior Cats). Viv is doing everything in her power to ruin this awesome creature right before my eyes, it's personal now, taxidermy kook 😑
Can't forget the time she paid to bother real life abused owls.

activities:
Dissect some owl pellets! they're fascinating, and you might find some really neat bones!
try making some "floating" wings for cosplay! this is something that could take a long time to work on, and being a super rewarding longterm project to make some really special gear! i recommend checking out the numerous videos that misstwisted has made on the topic, like this one!
go on dusky/nighttime walks, especially around barnowl habitats if you live near them! go owlwatching! its such a wonderful experience!
go to a climbing gym, or climb trees to enjoy getting to high up places to perch!
similarly, go zip lining or something similar! find safe ways to feel the wind on your feathers and get that flying euphoria
spend some time making your own gear! i know its something that seems obvious, but genuinly taking the time on your own to work on anything from arm cuffs to a mask to anything else that gives you euphoria can be such a wonderful and magical experience for connecting to yourself and your copinglink. really take the time to make it look not just like a barnowl, but like YOU!
i hope these are helpful, i had a lot of fun with this list! if theres a specific type of activity youd like, or if you just want more, feel free to send in an ask!! :) - 👾
