girlbossing too close to the sun.
#art#ive literally just been treating this game as a library simuator#i walk from bookseller to bookseller opening up all of their books#vivecs sermons are either a highlight or the point at which i stop reading#ive been trying to convince the ordinators that imitation is the highest form of flattery but it hasnt been working#let me wear your helmets please theyre so funny..#posting morrowind in 2024 isnt a cry for help but youre not wrong to be concerned.#morrowind#almalexia#vivec#im going to explain the chitin armor give me a moment#so the bonewalker nerevar on the shrines is adorable and it was only after drawing it however many times that i realized#it looked relatively close to a modified chitin armor#and so i modified chitin armor a few times and this was probably the cutest result#i also know i drew almalexia relatively pristine and untouched by years and vivec not so much but my thought process was#vivecs role as if not a favorite then the most accessible divine or the most “hands on” in a manner of speaking#acting in ways visible to the general population or actions explicitly brought to their attention#like not that almalexia isnt doing anything she is#but the dissemination of information regarding that is very different etc etc etc#anyways to a certain extent a god is the face on a shrine or in art or upon a statue or carving#but vivecs presence is interwoven with the geography of vvardenfell especially and his actions and writings with pubished materials#and the arts and culture and customs etc etc etc#so to me the face of a god you know and feel a commonality with or a god that walks alongside you is a face you would recognize#and vivec is already otherworldly looking enough#the simple mark of the years on his skin in some way grounding him in reality felt more right#that and i think the ways in which he and almalexia care about outward appearance are slightly different- they prioritize different things#and the ways they present outward power and their embodiment of their respective attributes share some similarities as they both have that#important preoccupation with physical power and physical strength to a certain degree#oh my god nobody read this i am yapping so bad.#tes

ratio the dissemination | the learned
ratio being the aeon of dissemination. much, much less a romantic plot and much more of an infodump. someone, anyone, i beg of you, please ask me to elaborate on this further
Tumblr media
the dissemination was a path open to all who would be willing to listen and learn, and yet only a handful of pathstriders are worthy enough to follow the footsteps of the dissemination directly as emanators. they were an enigmatic being at best, and a silent being at worst, but that did not make them inherently unkind. one would liken their way - his way - of ruling over the path the way rain falls. methodical, constant, ultimately ever present whether one chooses to have an umbrella on hand or not. although their gifts were constant, and their knowledge abundant, they were not known to have any emanators by their side, or at least, not a noteworthy one.
believing fairness above all, ratio the dissemination has forgone giving a single mortal being the ability to draw power from their path. or perhaps, they were just selective to who they gave this blessed curse with, and had not found one that matched their desires to cultivate and spread information around the cosmos. one would have to be intelligent, or at least possess and innate willingness to learn where they lack, and yet hold a deep desire to help humanity. such is not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.
geniuses in general were prone to hording their knowledge than to spread it out evenly. as such, the geniuses within nous the erudition's genius society far outweighed the minds of ratio the dissemination's ' the learned ' in sheer numbers alone. but just an uneven scale was not enough to engulf the dissemination's path as a whole. the minds following the dissemination were good, kind people, who often chose to help others learn the right answers to their problems. these beings were intelligent and held humility, something that many within the genius society did not.
several times, the cosmos chose to compare the dissemination to the erudition. after all, they both pertained to knowledge, how could they truly be so different ? but the different stemmed from the recognition of genius from both paths. ratio would cast their gaze to anyone who was willing to learn and to spread their wisdom, whereas nous only looked at those willing to study, to test, and ultimately, to horde.
the difference even lay within the aeon itself. nous was a supercomputer, only able to make calculated predictions within the variables that it knew. having a horde of knowledge meant that their understanding of the cosmos at large was at stake. if they did not know, they could not predict. they could not think. ratio, on the other hand, took on a more animal-like appearance. the body of a large, twisting marble snake, with the large expanse of six owl wings, three on each side. they did not need to horde knowledge, they were able to spread their wings upon anyone who dared to ask " why ? "
at least, this was the appearance that people commonly associated with the dissemination. you, a faithful pathstrider of the dissemination, one of the learned, however, knew of a different appearance.
you had finished giving a particularly harsh lecture one day, your heart wary but your mind racing with ideas. your mind never stopped, it always continued forward, unending. you would ponder everything, and your introspection lead you to the same conclusion every single time you thought about it : there were no downsides to helping further humanity. and so you taught, vehemently, with your everything. lecture after lecture, book after book, you never gave up on your mission.
this day, however, you were tired. wariness had caught up to you, and you were slumped over in your desk, your head in your hands as you tried to focus on grading your student's tests. you really couldn't stop racing towards this goal, and yet your mind unable to reach any fulfilling answers. was this all for nothing ? how likely was it that you could teach everyone ? surely your kindness would be exploited, surely the ipc would get their hands on the dissemination's learned, as they did the erudition's intelligentsia guild ?
was the path of the dissemination even worth following, if all it did was lead you down a never ending spiral ?
" raise your head, " a man's voice jolted you out of your thoughts. you jolted up, surprised, looking up at him with creased eyebrows. your office door was locked. how did he get in ? " you will be fine. "
the man had wavy iridescent purple hair, that almost looked like it could be blue, too, if the light hit it right, and sharp red-gold eyes, taking in your every reaction. his clothes were just a simple blue and white robe over a black vest and blue slacks, and he had a muscular build, towering over you as you sat down. and in his hair, the laurel, a symbol of the dissemination. those who followed the path often wore it, or something similar, to distinguish between their few numbers. was he a member of the learned as well ?
" i- " you started, finding yourself at a loss for words for a moment. " have no idea what you are talking about, my apologies. how- how did you get in ? are you looking for me ? " " looking for you ? yes, i suppose so, " he replied, ignoring your other question, perhaps on purpose. and perhaps it was best that you didn't know, you thought. " please, call me dr. ratio. " " doct- huh ? " confused, you stammered a little bit, unsure what he was getting at. but he didn't take the time to answer any of the questions you may had, his mouth working faster than your brain.
" i would like to teach you, personally, " dr. ratio explained, not being a man of many words, crossing his arms as he looked at you with a discerning eye, his gaze seemingly tearing you apart, revealing your intricacies and stitching you back up together again. " if you will willing to be under my tutelage, of course. "
the dissemination did not have any emanators so far, and he did not have a human appearance, as far as the records went. but you knew. you knew the truth. you knew a different being than ratio the dissemination.
you knew doctor veritas ratio, the scholar with a temper. and you learned under his wings.

Why has every with some kind of “designated climbable ledge” mechanic seemingly settled on marking such ledges with yellow?
When we create a visual style for a game, we must establish a visual language. This means visual indicators that the player can recognize and understand. Here is an example of visual language that you might recognize:
Tumblr media
Each of these blocks provides gameplay context to the player upon seeing them. They each have different behaviors and the player can determine what each of them means by their visual cues.
Tumblr media
In a game with climbable ledges, players must be able to differentiate climbable ledges from non-climbable ledges. This necessitates some kind of visual indicator to differentiate the two, or players will get stuck/lost/frustrated. Note how you can almost instantaneously see the path here because the visual language is so well-defined.
The reason that so many games tend to choose yellow for that indicator is because yellow is a high contrast color that sticks out against just about any background color. Look at these real life photos and see how much the yellow sticks out compared to the other colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See how your eye is almost immediately drawn to the yellow elements in each picture? The reason you see so many interactable ledges marked with yellow is because it's the brightest, most contrasting color that will pull player eyes to it almost immediately. For anything we absolutely don't want players to miss, we will often use yellow to highlight it because it is the most obvious thing we can do short of putting enormous UI elements pointing at the thing and saying GO HERE.

the thing about the inactive voters thing which is SO funny to me is that all of the order are enacting these great decisions and engaging in debates and plans with each other to properly deal with the power and the corruption that will come with the position. meanwhile literally all it would take is the eight inactive members deciding to be funny and like. foolish. to completely destroy all of it.

ok so about my lack of update. I got sidetracked writing about the nightmare horse (!!!!spoiler!!!!) and the other flesh gifts Feyd is going to give Laera. Harkonnen giftgiving traditions are atrocious, I've decided. Also I've re-written chap 21 like three times and I'm pretty sure some of my readers will unionize to beat my ass if I don't post eventually. ~tee hee~
Here, have some random headcanons related to BMGWMBGG because I'm deranged:
the Harkonnen tradition of offering "flesh gifts" to the bride is essentially the manifestation of that one post that's like "my love language is acts of service and all I know how to do is kill"
given that Geidi Prime has to pump groundwater since the planet has no oceans and little rainfall, there are likely thermal pools/natural springs somewhere in the Fortress. They function like bath houses, essentially. Feyd-Rautha visits them frequently.
the Harkonnen tradition of draping their brides in betrothal chains came from the practice of having to physically restrain their wives because uhhhhh they did not often consent to marriage. Now the chains are just brutally pretty jewelry, but in ye olden days Harkonnens would kidnap their brides caveman style
the ceremonial lyggal warpaint is mixed with human blood. often the wearer's
Harkonnen men totally get married half-naked covered in warpaint. How else is the bride supposed to take her blood rite if he's all covered up? :(
Geidi Prime has a renowned rave scene. Party drugs? Evil techno? That's basically Tuesday for the upper classes
Despite keeping appearance of the contrary, Feyd-Rautha is not a hedonist with all pleasures. He holds himself to the standard of a warrior and forces purity of mind and body so that he can feel superior to others. Baby boi deffo has an eating disorder and like six different hangups about eating in front of others. Violence is his chief vice but sex is a close second, so he's not a monk all the time...
Feyd-Rautha thinks it's just so charming that women have a menstrual cycle. oh his partner lifts her skirt? and she's already bleeding? it's like Christmas came twice.
Feyd-Rautha has met Princess Irulan on two occasions prior to Arrakis. He was buck-ass naked during their first meeting (I will not explain) and covered in blood for their second. The Baron offered Feyd as a marriage prospect to the Emperor's daughter both times. "isn't my nephew strong? isn't he capable? wouldn't you like to give him children?" *gestures to the horrible little man covered in blood*
Feyd-Rautha is freaked out by horses. It's the spindly legs...
Feyd-Rautha's favorite food is nutrient paste. I am not joking

Resistance News Network
🚨 Now, as Gaza faces its heaviest bombardment, Al-Shifa Hospital faces a direct threat: the genocidal entity has threatened to bomb the medical complex, the largest in the #Gaza Strip.
Today, Al-Shifa houses thousands of patients and wounded from the zionist aggression, as well as over 40,000 displaced people who have sought refuge there and journalists documenting the aggression.
The IOF has again presented false narratives in recent days, making the ridiculous and baseless claim that the hospital is a resistance base. Hamas categorically denied the claims, affirming the "falseness of the Nazi occupation’s narrative regarding the use of Al-Shifa Hospital for military purposes, or the presence of any of Hamas’ leaders in it." They called on the United Nations, Arab countries, and Islamic nations to "immediately intervene to halt the madness of bombing and destroying the medical system."
These baseless lies come just 10 days after the occupation perpetrated the massacre of 471 martyrs at Al-Ahli Maamadani Hospital, as well as countless threats and bombing of 24 hospitals across the Gaza Strip. The occupation is using these lies as a pretext to bomb yet another hospital in a new massacre as part of its US-supported genocide.
At this moment, the IOF bombing of #Gaza is unceasing. As the internet and communications are completely cut off, fears of the bombing of Al-Shifa occurring in silence as escalating, especially in light of direct threats by the IOF spokesperson moments ago.

2024 Scorpio Disseminating Moon
Friday, March 29, 08:33 UT, 24°08’ Scorpio
The key phrases for the Disseminating lunar phase are “teach, share, communicate;” and “ease up on efforts with our intentions.”
This promises to be a very emotional phase, with boundary issues: Scorpio is a water sign, and the only major aspect left for the Moon is a trine to watery Neptune/Pisces. Ice and fog! The “teach, share, communicate” piece may seem more like venting. And sometimes we need to vent. We just have to make sure we vent at/to:
trustworthy people who won’t take advantage of us. (Though I suspect we’re also in a suspicious mood, which may help - or hinder. How good is your radar?)
people who are actually okay with being a witness to the vent. (Not everyone wants to hear it.)
We’re probably more than a little paranoid right now. Testy, too. Our imaginations are strong, and given the Scorpionic mindset we’re thinking of everything that could go wrong. I guess as long as we don’t wallow in the negativity? It’s good to be prepared for the worst, as long as we don’t forget to hope for the best.

Aaa thank you so much! Not to sound incredibly old but it's such a beautiful thing that these sort of online platforms (however flawed) are out there in many shapes and forms.. Every day we get to see creations and stories from other humans in other parts of the globe. Even if you aren't actively creating, you are still playing a part in the whole thing yk?? I'm honored to even be considered.

From what I've seen from surveys and bits of news, Spain seems like it's pretty good with trans acceptance and stuff. Is that true?
Relatedly, you've said you started in Ohio and ended up in Spain. How would you reccomend someone else from Ohio do that?
oof, haha. this is a tough time to ask this -- for the past three years that i've lived here my answer would have been an enthusiastic and pretty confident yes, but recently we're all pretty worried bc in recent elections there have been gains made by the far-right + conservative parties. things where i live are still okay, but in other regions there is reason for concern. if you end up seriously planning on moving to spain, i would heavily advise you to do research on the political situations of different autonomous communities (essentially like provinces or states; catalonia is the community i live in, valencia is a community, madrid has its own community, etc) bc they all have individual governments and the experience of living in one community can be vastly different from another regardless of what's going on on a federal level. as an example, madrid is only a 2 hour train ride away from where i live but in comparison covid has been a million times worse there, absolutely fucking nightmarish, bc they have an extremely conservative government and their healthcare systems were privatized + managed differently by that government in a way that caused a lot of suffering.
i would still say it is resoundingly better than the united states, especially on the front of LGBTQ+ safety. i'm not "visibly trans" -- i believe 99% of the ppl who see me out and about probably perceive me as a cis woman -- but i'm very visibly gay, my wife and i are often affectionate in public, and the worst we've ever personally gotten have been frowns and disapproving glares. most of the time, even when ppl stare at us, it's more harmless curiosity than anything else. this doesn't mean hate crimes and discrimination never happen here, bigotry is everywhere, but in comparison i am frankly in a constant state of anguish and fear about what's going on in my home country.
(asked my wife to read this over for accuracy and offer his input and he wants to add that while on a legal level things are pretty stable -- a lot of laws that have been passed that protect LGBTQ+ rights would be difficult to revoke or repeal -- on a social level things have gotten noticeably worse and violence has objectively risen over the past few years. 2022 was the most violent year in a decade, specifically in terms of homophobic hate crimes. we both feel that this is more about rising fascism worldwide than about anything specific to spain, but still.)
as for immigration, i'm afraid i can't really offer any help or advice on that one! my residency here is based on my marriage to my wife, who is a spanish citizen, so i have no knowledge at all on other methods of obtaining residency.

🇾🇪 Member of the Defense and Security Committee in Yemen, Brigadier General Abdul Salam Jahaf:
Do the American, British, and zionist expect that any aggressive act against Yemen will distract us from defending Gaza?
We swear, even if we turned into atoms scattered in the air, we will not leave Gaza. We will continue to target zionist ships and those going to the zionist entity. We will confront America, make it kneel, burn its warships, all its bases, and anyone who cooperates with it.
No matter what it costs us, we will not leave Gaza. Let the great war ignite, for we are its people and its men.
To our people, our brothers, our sons, and our fathers in Gaza, we are with you. You are not alone. Our blood for you is cheap, and we are with you until our last breath.
God refuses for us to be submissive and humiliated while your blood is spilled. What will God say to us when we meet Him?
You have let down Gaza.
No, by God, we will not let her down, no matter what it costs us.
The world must prepare to hear of America's defeat. I say this with all pride, we will trample America under our feet. The battlefield will teach those who do not know us about our might and severity.
We will not warn nor threaten. Wait for what will heal your hearts.
By God.
We will burn the region.

"[Lou] was a good friend through everything. We had this brother-sister type relationship in the group, and it lasted long after the group split. We would always exchange Christmas cards, Valentine cards. It was one of those friendships where it didn't matter if you didn't see each other a lot. We'd meet up after two years or five years and it would be like we'd seen each other last week. As you get older, you come to realize that that kind of friendship is rare, so I miss him a hell of a lot. It's just dawning on me that he's not out there anymore...Now Andy's gone, Sterling's gone, Nico's gone and Lou's gone. It feels strange. I miss them all, but I really miss Lou. He was a great songwriter who pushed the boundaries in terms of what he was writing about, but more importantly, he was a good and loyal friend. It doesn't seem right that I won't be sending him a Christmas card." (via)
