currently can’t stop thinking about dj barty doing sets in shitty underground clubs and playing the most god awful remixes of obscure post-punk with evan in the booth behind him sitting cross-legged on a speaker or something and looking somehow both entirely out of place and like he was sent from the heavens to be there. and he’s not even drinking or really listening to the music he’s just watching barty’s hands move over the decks completely unaware that when the strobe lights hit him he’s causing half the people in the crowd to think they’re having hallucinations that angels have started to come to earth, because everything from his shirt to the too-white whites of his eyes are glowing so brightly under the light that he literally has a halo. but anyway barty’s just zoned out playing off-beat bauhaus mixes till there are blisters on his fingers and occasionally glancing back at him to check he’s still there. etc etc.
they sleep during the day, in a one-bedroom with black mold & peeling wallpaper, to come alive at night. if you ask barty how he met evan, he'll laugh and tell you he fell from the sky right into his lap. barty used to steal credit cards from the purses of the girls he took home, and now he pawns the lost phones he finds after his shows, buys evan a popsicle on his walk home. feeds him from his palm, pets his head, and clicks his tongue to beckon him all like a stray cat. you can watch him weaving through crowds heading up the booth, evan mutely clutching his sleeve, shielding evan with his body.
bartoloměj always looks like he's trying to kill himself slowly, dresses like he doesn't exist outside the scene, chipped his front tooth clean in half with his tongue piercing. he's always got that Thing shadowing him (his little angel), who dresses like a schoolchild and doesn't speak, pay rent, dance, or do much of anything but stare. he's terrifying. whenever barty takes anything, evan obediently sticks his tongue out, expecting half (when barty spins out he always clutches evan's shoulders, asks: are you alright, rosie? are you alright?, even though evan is the one who's fine). barty loves the music. evan doesn't like any music much at all, but he appreciates the science of it, memorizes barty's hands. everyone knows they're together, but no-one asks if they're married or dating or anything. it's more like barty has a shadow, and they're going to live forever, a pair.

Chapter 6: My Type
You and Bradley were both thankful that you were at a good place again in your friendship. The two of you returned to your previous routine of your Wednesday night hangouts, and the rest of August slipped away into a moment in time. September brought you two closer together as you still danced around the line of friends or something more.
It also brought along Mickey's birthday, and after the way the last party ended, the squad was ready to have a fun night out that didn't end in chaos.
Fanboy had never outgrown his punk rock phase, and for his birthday, he asked that every attend a cover band concert La Jolla. He had gone all out and even rented a party bus to take the group to and from the venue. Unfortunately, you had plans that night and wouldn't be able to attend. You made sure to send him a nice gift, though. Mickey was over the moon when he opened the autograph Star Trek poster and immediately forgave you for missing out on the fun.
Bradley, however, was extremely disappointed in the fact that you weren't coming. He was hoping that tonight would finally be his chance to lay his feelings on the line for you, but instead, he was drinking a beer, sandwiched between Payback and Bob, while Jake and Coyote made use of the stripper poles in the bus.
When they arrived, he couldn't wait to get off and get some fresh air. He had texted you a few times, but you hadn't responded. He checked his phone again to see that his messages were still unread. He sighed in disappointment before tucking his phone away and heading inside with everyone else.
Inside, an EDM DJ was playing some throwback Coldplay while a few techs were setting up for the band. The Daggers found a section near the right side and settled in. They gave their drink orders to a waitress who winked and Mickey when she found out it was his birthday.
Moments later, she returned with drinks and the promise to come back and see if they would need anything later.
With his whiskey in hand, Bradley leaned over to Fanboy and asked, "What's the name of this band again?"
Fanboy rolled his eyes. "The Styx. They do a mix of punk rock, eighties hits, pop, and some original songs. I heard them at a festival about a year and a half ago, and I've seen them a few places here and there. I'm pretty excited to see them again, though. Their lead singer left the band about five months ago to go solo, and apparently, an old friend of the lead guitarist stepped up and has been with them. I haven't heard her, but apparently, she's way better than the old singer." Fanboy explains.
Bradley nods his head and sinks back into his chair as he and everyone else waits for the show to start.
About ten minutes later, the DJ finishes, and some filler music comes through the speakers. The owner of the bar tells everyone that the band will start shortly. More people pour in. Bradley's mind wanders to you, and what you might be doing tonight.
...............
"How's the crowd out there?" You ask Lyla as she checks over her guitar once more. "The energy is fantastic. The place is pretty packed, too." She tells you with a smile.
"Great." You sigh.
A packed house
More people to watch you fail
"Don't worry, babe, you're going to kill it like you always do!" Mariana, the drummer and Lyla's sister, tells you. "Exactly. Just relax, we've got this!" Derrick, the bass player, says to the group. "If anyone boos, I will jump off the stage and shove my keyboard down their throat." Trent, Derrick's husband tells you. You can't help but laugh. You want to say something witty back, but you hear the stage manager start to introduce the group.
You can do this
You love doing this
You're going to be great
You take a deep breath and give yourself a once over in the mirror before stepping out. You look good— really good.
Netted tights cover your legs before disappearing under your cut-off denim shorts that show off your thigh tattoos.
A cropped black vintage Bon Jovi shirt covers your torso. You've cut some of the neck out of the shirt, so the lace of your bralette underneath is visible. Layers of silver chains with charms hug your neck and cleavage. A red flannel is tied around your waist.
Heavy, black, Doc Marten boots are on your feet, and your hair is loose and wild around your face. Sultry dark makeup graces your features, and you've traded your signature cherry red pout for a sensual shade of burgundy.
Rings and bracelets adorned your fingers and wrists. You truly looked the part of a rock queen. You look like sex on legs
Maybe you should pay Bradley a visit after this was over
You were broken from your thoughts by the cheers of the crowd. You took a deep breath as the rest of the group stepped out onto the stage. It was dark, thankfully, you couldn't make any faces out, and they couldn't see you just yet.
You turned to Lyla and the rest of the band who gave you the go-ahead.
..........
The Daggers, especially Fanboy, waited with baited breath as the band set up. Bradley sat there with a fresh glass of whiskey and prayed they were as good as Fanboy had made them out to be. There was nothing worse than sitting through a shitty band.
Soon, the opening sounds of Fallout Boy's "Centuries" filled the room. The band stayed shrouded in dim lights until the opening chorus finished, and then bright lits illuminated the stage.
Fanboy screamed in excitement as he leaned over to say something to Fritz, but Bradley's eyes didn't leave the stage. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He wasn't drunk. Surely, his mind had to be playing tricks on him.
Just as he was about to say something, it seemed like the entire group came to the realization at the same time.
"Oh my shit." Jake said. "It's that—"
"That's Hades." Bradley said before Jake could finish his question. "Holy shit." Bradley breathed out as he watched you on the stage.
You owned the space. You presses filled the room and demanded the attention of the crowd.
Bradley was captivated by you. He knew that he was attracted to you before. He'd tried so hard to keep his feelings pushed down, and when he kissed you, he knew he'd ruined his chances. But then—then you wanted to be his friend again, and he got the chance to fall for you all over again.
And this time, he fell harder.
Now, there was no denying his attraction for you. As he watched you on that stage, enthralled with your beauty and this new side of you he'd never seen before, Bradley couldn't help but let his mind wander.
The music continues, but now, it's all background noise to Bradley.
He isn't even sure what song you are singing right now. He's too busy watching the way your body moves to the beat and how he's sure you wore that outfit just to mess with him.
He knows that the last part isn't true because surely you didn't know that the Daggers would be here tonight. Fanboy had only asked if you were free tonight. He'd never told you the plans, but in the back of Bradley's mind, he likes to think that you wore that cropped Bon Jovi tee for him and the moment you'd shared months ago.
He watches the hem of your shirt catch on your fingertips as you drag your hands up your body and sway with the music. Bradley hasn't stopped staring at the patch of skin that is just visible between it and the waistband of your jean shorts. He is eager to know what you might have on under it and how it would look on his bedroom floor.
Maybe it was wrong of him to think it, but Bradley didn't care.
Haunting melodies poured from your wine colored lips. They weaved through the crowd and flooded his ears. Bradley was hanging onto every word you sang. His mind wandered as he wondered if his name would sound just as pretty as your songs did when it tumbled from your lips as he brought you to the peak of pleasure.
You were absolutely fearless in the way you put on a show. You worked the room and had everyone captivated. Bradley hoped that one day, he'd be able to find out if you would put on a show just for him in the privacy of his bedroom.
God, you were so fucking beautiful up there. And he knows he probably looks like an absolute ass because he has been ignoring the rest of your friends for almost the entire forty-five minutes you've been on the stage, but he can't help it.
He's so awestruck by you and this part of your life. It's another piece of the puzzle that makes you so unique and so amazing to him.
You're smart, witty, beautiful, funny, and talented on more than one front. Bradley loves that he's learned something new about you.
He wants to learn more new things about you. He wants to add more pieces to the puzzle until he has the whole picture.
He would give anything to spent eternity figuring you out.
You announce the final song of your set list, a rock cover of "Bad Romance," and Bradley finds it ironic because he would take any kind of romance with you. Good or bad.
With this being the last song, you go wild. You release all your inhibitions as you move about the stage and command the room, just like you command the sky.
Bradley has to discreetly adjust himself through his jeans because he gets distracted by the way your necklaces move.
The layers of silver chains of various lengths with charms scattered throughout them hugged your neck in the best way. Bradley didn't realize he could be jealous of a few pieces of jewelry, but as he grips his glass of whiskey tighter, he finds himself longing to replace them with his hands. He just knows that you'd look so fucking beautiful with his long fingers wrapped around your throat while he fucked you like the good girl he knows you would be for him.
Just when he thought you couldn't surprise him anymore, that night, you prove him wrong. When the bridge of the song comes up, you switch to singing in French. French? Since when did you know another language?
Now he wanted to know if you were fluent in it, and if you were, would you talk dirty to him in it. Fuck, you were still a mystery to him, in the best way.
As the song came to an end, you hit your knees for the final high note, and the entire crowd jumped up and screamed for you, the Daggers included. Bradley isn't embarrassed to say that he was definitely the loudest.
After you and the rest of the band thanked everyone for coming out and bidded the audience farewell, Bradley watched you disappear behind a black curtain.
More filler music started up as the squad sat down and looked at each other.
"So, Hades moonlights as a rockstar." Coyote said, breaking the silence of the group.
"Would it be weird if I asked her to get me an autograph from her band mates?" Fanboy asked.
"I don't think so. I just can't believe she didn't tell us." Phoenix said as she finished her beer.
"We all have things that we don't tell everyone about. Maybe she was afraid we'd make fun of her or something. Plus, have you met some of us? A few members of our group aren't the best at respecting other people's feelings." Bob said as he and everyone stared directly at Jake.
"For the last time, I apologized to her! Jeez!" Jake said as he threw his hands up in defense.
.............
Once off the stage, you downed a bottle of water and panted to catch your breath.
"We were amazing tonight!" Derrick cheers as he puts his bass away. "Hades, you killed it with the vocals!" Trent compliments you.
"I'm just glad you didn't have to fight an audience member, I doubt your husband would have bailed you out of jail—again." You needle Trent.
"Oh my gosh, it was one time, and they dropped the charges." Trent huffed.
Lyla and Mariana laugh as they put their things away. "You guys want to get a drink? To celebrate a successful show?" Mariana asks. "Absolutely. Hades, if you keep this up, we might not ever let you go!" Lyla tells you as she slings an arm around your shoulder.
"Lyla, I told you, I'm just helping you our until you can find someone to replace Candice." You tell her.
Lyla shakes her head as the five of you head out of the backstage area and to the bar. You take a seat with your back to the crowd. A few patrons come up and speak to all of you, but none linger too long. You've just put your pomegranate margarita to your lips when you hear a familiar voice call, "Well what do we have here? If it ain't Hades."
You set your drink down and spin on your stool. You're shocked when you turn around and see all twelve of your friends and coworkers standing in front of you.
"Oh my gods, what are you guys doing here?" You ask them.
"This is what I had planned for my birthday." Fanboy tells you.
"Oh, Mick, I had no idea. You should have told me, and I could have gotten you a front row spot!" You tell him.
"You could have told us you were a rockstar." Phoenix says.
You don't have a chance to respond before Lyla says, "Well, aren't you going to introduce us?"
"Oh, sorry. Guys, this is Lyla, we were stationed together in Lemoore a few years ago. She was my wingman until she hung up her wings to be a mechanic. And this is her sister Mariana and Derrick and his husband Trent, and they are The Styx." You say.
"We are The Styx." Lyla corrects you.
After a few polite hellos, you turn to your squadron. "And guys, this is Fanboy, Payback, Halo, Omaha, Bob, Phoenix, Yale, Harvard, Fritz, Coyote, Hangman, and—Bradley." You say as you point out each one of them.
"Bradley—er—Rooster, is my new wingman." You tell your band mates.
"You are a lucky duck to be flying with her." Lyla tells Rooster. "She saved my ass several times."
"Don't let her fool you, Lyla had my back, too." You smile.
"So, Hades, how did you end up doing—this?" Bob asks you, never failing to address the elephant in the room.
"Lyla and I lived together in the barracks. We used to do karaoke on the weekends. She always played a little and decided she wanted to do music more seriously. Unfortunately, Lyla was in a training accident and shattered her left hip." You told them. You wince at that detail. It had been the one time that you weren't flying with her because an admiral had pulled you into a meeting.
"Not too long after Lyla's accident, I was transferred. We kept in touch, and she told me to call her if I was ever back in California." You told them.
"And I couldn't get back in a plane anymore after that, so I took to fixing them and playing guitar in my spare time. At an open mic night, Mariana and I met Derrick and Trent and Candice, our former lead singer. We hit it off, and The Styx was born." Lyla explains.
"But, Candice thought she was too good for us and moved to L.A. five months ago, " Mariana adds.
"Thankfully, Hades just happened to get station in San Diego. So, when she called me to catch up, I convinced her to do a show with us, and that's kind of led us here." Lyla finishes.
"Wow, that's insane." Payback says.
"Yeah, crazy." You shake your head, suddenly feeling on edge now that your work friends new more about your personal life. It wasn't that you were trying to hide this from them, but at the same time, you liked your privacy.
Secrets kept you safe
Bradley could tell that you were getting uncomfortable, so he tapped your knee to get your attention before grabbing your wrist and pulling you away from the crowd.
"You were amazing up there, Angel." He praises you as you tuck yourselves into a corner of the club.
"Thanks, maybe next time, you can join me, and we can hit them with some 'Great Balls of Fire.'" You laugh. Bradley chuckles.
A comfortable silence settles over the two of you. You both look at see the Daggers talking and drinking with your band mates.
"How did all of you get here?" You ask him.
"Fanboy got a party bus. Jake was recreating scenes from Magic Mike on the drive here when he was still half sober, I'm terrified to see what's going to happen on the way back." Bradley shutters.
"I didn't even get to have my drink, so I'm sober. I drove here, wanna ride home with me?" You offer him.
Bradley abso-fucking-lutely wanted to ride home with you. And then, when the two of you got home, he wanted to take you into his apartment, strip you down, and hear you sing for him in a different way. And he wanted you to sleep over so he could make you breakfast the next morning before he fucked you in his shower. However, he couldn't say that to you, so instead, he just said, "Yeah, Angel, that would be great."
The two of you quietly snuck out the back of the club. You had grabbed your things already. You made it to the car before Bradley, but instead of opening your door, you stood there, subconsciously waiting for him to do it. He smiled and opened the door and helped you in.
The drive back to San Diego was filled with playful banter, more singing, and flirty touches.
.............
Once you were back at your apartment complex, Bradley made sure to walk you to your door.
You wanted to invite him in, but it was late, and you were still high on adrenaline from performing, and you didn't trust yourself not to drag him to your bed. If you were going to do this with him, you were going to do it the right way.
So, you settled for a simple goodnight kiss on his cheek before tucking yourself inside your home.
After he said goodbye to you at your apartment door, Bradley bolted upstairs to his.
Tonight, he's thankful that he is your upstairs neighbor and that he has a corner unit where his bedroom doesn't share a wall with anyone.
Why? Because of the way your name sinfully falls from his lips while he touches himself and selfishly chases his release.
He's been hard for you all evening, and your flirty touches in your car on the ride home coupled with the way your soft lips felt on his cheek had him spiraling as he fists his cock.
He cums hard, spurts of it painting his hand and abs with hot white streaks. As he comes down from his high and cleans himself up, Bradley can't help but think about how his cum would look splattered on your thigh tattoo or dripping out of you. He groans, already hardening at the thought of it.
After quelling the fires of his desire with a cold shower, Bradley slips between the sheets of his bed and thinks of you and how he could make the two of you something more.

Since his best friend moved to Monaco, he always went there everytime he could. It was something quick, taking a plane and landing on Nice, then taking a train and going to Monaco, or Lando picking him up and going to him to his apartment.
He loved going there, feeling like if it was a small rest on his week, staying on a spare room and going to the golf club the next day. He even liked to play some video games with him on his gaming room that now has a simulator thanks to Lando's brother.
But lately, the reason he was going to Monaco wasn't to see his friend. It was to try to find that girl he saw once. The girl that drove him crazy a whole night and never saw again.
It was a hot day in Monaco, just as in England. Lando asked him and the rest of their friends to go to Monaco to spend some days with them, planning of going to the golf club, to the beach and even renting some cars and doing a trip around.
The day he landed on Nice, he was alone. Tom, Martin and Oliver were going to arrive the next day. When he walked out if the airport he sighed looking around with no sign of Lando's car around.
"Fucking muppet" he frowned looking at his phone, a text Lando sent minutes ago saying he couldn't make it to the airport in time and asking him to go on train there.
He walked where the trains were waiting, running to buy a ticket and then going to the train as fast as he could before it disappeared. He was holding his suitcase, not noticing how a girl that was passing by and crashing on her.
"Ow..." she groaned when she fell on the floor, rubbing her butt. "You have two eyes to use them, you know?"
He was surprised. The first thing he wanted to do was help her stand up, but she already was doing it before he offered her his hand.
"I'm sorry" he frowned, but she just walked away to the same train he was going to catch.
Max sighed, getting inside the train and sitting on the chair he had assigned after placing his suitcase on the shelves on top of the chairs. Then he saw that girl again, looking at her ticket and then around.
"Please don't sit with me, please don't sit with me" he begged internally, looking at his feet.
He heard how her steps stopped and sighed relieved, looking up again. But how unlucky he is, noticing that she was sitting next o him at the other side of the train.
"How nice" he thought, sarcastic, burying himself on the seat and deciding that the best he could do now was listen to music to distract his mind.
The journey to Monaco wasn't long, it was only some stops before he had to stood up and grab his suitcase if he didn't want to miss the stop. He had it planned, some minutes before the speaker announced the arrival to Monaco, he would stand up and take the suitcase calm, walking towards the door.
But the moment he saw her standing up too and putting her backpack on her shoulders, he swallowed thickly, paying attention to his movements and making sure he doesn't fuck up again. And because of that reason he nearly missed the stop.
When he walked out he saw her disappearing behind the corridor doors, walking away with that ponytail and that summer dress. After that moment, he never saw her again, something that made him really relieved.
But the rest of the day was like if something was stuck in his brain. Those words were repeating again and again in his head, making him feel more stupid as time went by. He couldn't even listen to Lando thanks to that woman that insulted him and a really intelligent way.
"Earth to Max, you here?" Lando smirked waving his hand in front of his eyes.
"Uh? Ah, yeah, yeah" he frowned shaking his head, the image of that woman disappearing from his mind. "A little tired, that's all"
A party. Yeah, maybe that's what he needs. Distract himself and drink, have fun with his friends.
The plan was perfect. They were going to the club on a cab, because they were planning to drink. Lando already reserved a VIP zone, a big menu of drinks and even asked the DJ to let him play something. It was a night to have fun.
But still, that summer dress was playing with his mind. Those words were disturbing him.
"Oi, blind man" he heard close to him, making him look around to find that smirk.
"You" he frowned.
"I couldn't imagine I could find you here" she said smirking. "I didn't knew blind people can come to clubs"
"I-" Max frowned looking at her surprised. "I'm not blind!"
"You are not? Then which finger am I showing you?" she smirked, showing her the middle finger of her right hand.
"Oi, that's rude" Max exclaimed laughing, making her laugh too. "I'm Max"
She smiled and held his hand, shaking it and stepping close to him to whisper her name on his ear, just pulling away fast and making him breathe her perfume with her movement: something fruity, then floral and then vanilla. All in one.
That scent got stuck on his nose the rest of the night. He tried to find her again, going to the dance floor and looking to the bar. He tried to get close to some girls that had the same hair as her, but she wasn't there.
"Max, are you okay?" Lando asked him patting his back, smiling a little drunk already.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine" he nodded, his eyes scanning the crowd again.
"Did you lose something?" he smirked.
"A girl that calls me blind" he thought.
Then he saw her again, and whatever Lado was telling him just got mute, everything he could focus on was her smile and how she was dancing with a group of girls and a man behind her, getting too close to her.
"Hold on" Max frowned, leaving his drink on the table and walking towards her, having a better view of how that man was rubbing himself against her while she tried to push him away. That made his blood boil. How can someone be that disgusting?
"Hey babe" he said quickly, maybe the alcohol helping him to talk confident. "Here you are, I have been searching you for a while already"
She looked up at him, shocked, but soon that gaze turned relieved after recognizing him. She leaned against him when Max wrapped an arm around her waist, looking at the man frowning.
"Can you explain me what were you doing with my girl?" He frowned, holding her closer and looking at that guy. If looks could kill, he would be already six feet under ground.
He didn't have an answer sicne the gross man walked away groaning. Max'hand didn't leave her waist, and she just smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"That definitely proofs that I'm not blind, hm?" he smirked looking at her.
"Oh yeah, definitely" she laughed standing close to him.
The rest of the night he was with her. He didn't though about Lando at the other side of the club, who maybe was searching for him or that already went home after having too much drink for himself. But Max didn't care to be left behind, he was with her, dancing and having fun, standing close and never daring to kiss each other even if their eyes were begging the other to do that.
It was the moment he walked with her to the door of her hotel when he took the first step, cupping her cheeks and connecting their lips on a kiss. He could smell her scent, that sweet scent he couldn't stop thinking about during the night.
"Come with me" she whispered on his lips, not wanting to pull away.
And he went with her. Of course he went, it was like if she put a spell on him, maki g him follow her lime a lost puppy needing protection.
She was so beautiful, so absurdly beautiful on top of him, moving slowly while he ran his hands on every inch of her skin, wanting to memorize every mark, every curve, how her skin shines with the sweat, how her breasts fit perfectly on his palm. How the hell someone as her can fit him so perfect?
"Max" she moaned in his ear, and the way she said it got stuck forever on his mind.
The next morning she wasn't there in the bed. He woke up alone, with the memory of his missing half and the scent of her perfume on his skin and clothes.
It was a nice day. He went with Lando to the golf club with Alex and Charles and after that they just went to a restaurant to have lunch all together.
Max felt like that day was different, special. Something inside of him was telling him that something good will happen that day, and that kept him anxious, awake, in alert. Maybe he will have a call telling him that he will drive again? Or that one of his kittens peed on his bed. Maybe it's something insignificant and he's anxious for nothing.
"Mate, are you okay?" Lando frowned. "I swear, every time you come here is like you are at the edge of a panic attack"
He laughed nervous, brushing away what his friend said, and focused on his lunch.
And then he heard it. That voice, that laugh. He looked up and was immediately blinded by the sun.
"Hey, blind man" she said looking at her side, finding the man she bumped into months ago.
"This time I'm blinded" he laughed. "By your light"
"How cute" she smiled looking at him, biting her lip.
"What the fuck?" Lando gasped confused. "Who are you and what you did with my best friend?"

It's 1994 and you are having a Roller Skating Party for your birthday. Your friends are here, you're doin "Crack the Whip" despite it being STRICTLY against the rink rules, but Jennifer's older brother is working the DJ booth right now and he doesn't really care.

The first notes of TLC's "Waterfalls" start playing over the blown out speakers as the disco lights dance around you. Your friends exchange glances and you all sing along with every word, despite being far too young to understand the song's meaning.
This is Roller Rink, our June scent. We hope you had a wonderful birthday party, kiddo.

Tumblr media
Jon is the founder of Kiss your Ears
As an introduction please tell us a bit about yourself and the work that you are doing.
I am an entrepreneur working with concepts that create positive change in the music industry.
I have created Kiss Your Ears, an acoustic treatment manufacturing company that has been designed to offer much better quality acoustic treatment than what is otherwise available, and at a very competitive price point. We are also the only acoustic treatment company specialised in the requirements of electronic music production, aka. hitting those low frequencies that are left resonant by other available units.
I have also built 73 high quality music production studios in Berlin, which I rent out with different companies across three buildings in different locations in the city, offering creative communities for producers to benefit from.
Next, I will finish the book I'm currently writing, Kiss Your Ears: A Practical Guide to Acoustics for the Modern Music Maker. I will simplify some often confused topics, and give away build plans for all kinds of acoustic treatment modules as well as plans for affordable isolative constructions aka. Room-in-Room-in-Budget solutions. I aim to give away the answer to every single problem I have ever encountered in building and treating studios.
I am also in the process of starting a new company focused solely on office acoustics worldwide, and plan to hit that with the same innovative and value oriented mindset that KYE has benefited from.
What is music to you? (Or sound rather.)
Music is sharing. Sound is energy (vibrations).
How did you learn about studio acoustics?
It has been a long process.
I am thorough. I did some serious research and took some risks (large investments for research).
I decided to equip myself with the most thorough and relevant/ applicable skill set by studying in some small apprenticeships, I studied formally and in my own time, and served my 10.000 hours by helping hundreds of clients save a lot of money on their studio set ups.
I've actually served my ten thousand hours more than once if we count that my achievements as a musician, music producer and construction professional have been racking up for many years…
I am now writing the book that will teach the average producer how to do what I do and treat rooms the right way!

Studio Acoustics: The Basics | ADAM Audio & Kiss Your Ears
Why does it matter?
Why does Room Acoustics matter? Because in an untreated room, you are listening more to the room itself than what is actually coming out of your speakers!
Acoustic treatment is a tool like any other, and an important one at that. You can save a lot of time with a well treated room!
People don't even realize how much of an effect proper acoustics treatment can have because it was not commercially available before.
How common is it nowadays for electronic music producers to mix and master their own work?
I would say around 90% of electronic music producers mix their own music. This is less in the area of "modern singer songwriter" and more in the area of "producer/ DJ".
In the professional arena, even those that do their own mixdowns do not master their own tracks. That is a folly.
Tumblr media
aesthetically pleasing acoustic room treatment
What is the most common problem that you encounter in untreated rooms/home studios?
The most common problems we encounter in untreated rooms/ home studios are that the client has already wasted some of their budget on far lesser performing acoustic elements. For example, I quite often see clients with thin (10-15cm) absorbers in a music production environment.
Also quite often, I see people fetishizing the "cloud placement" absorbers for no real reason, as well as buying diffusers before they have taken care of the low frequency resonances.
This is all because of the misinformation spread around freely about room acoustics even on reputable forums.
Tell us a bit about the measuring process, is it exciting and adventurous? What sounds are you using?
To be honest, the measuring itself is not so exciting, and in fact highly predictable. However, getting to help clients with their sacred spaces is highly rewarding.
We would normally use full frequency spectrum sine wave sweeps.
Do you trust your ears or your visualizer?
Well, you don't really hear sub bass as much as feel it so…
That said, I have relative pitch from playing instruments and I've looked at a lot of data so when I go into a room and hear a kick drum that is activating a 60Hz resonance in the room, I hear the B note…
But I would say I use both, and always trust the data because the data cannot lie. Our psychoacoustic perception can and does!
Tumblr media
behold their legendary bass traps!
Why are the KYE absorbers called King Kong?
Because they are the most effective on the market! They are also the most affordable solution to achieving the 80/20 rule of high end results, so they required a legendary name!
The build quality is also far superior to the rest of the market. These monkeys are big boned.
We do have other ranges, but the King Kong Range is our best seller.
Is it all about the bass traps, i. e. fix the bass, fix the room?
Due to space and budget limitations, absorption is almost ALWAYS the most important factor in the control of room acoustics.
The theory behind the system we follow is to always use the input budget to prioritise fixing the low end (thereby fixing most of the rooms’ other issues along the way). Low frequency control is a widely misunderstood and somewhat mysterious practice.
How to do it properly? Start with a low reaching velocity absorber and hit the bass broadband/wideband as much as possible until exhausted. Again, that’s how the pro’s do it and it’s just logical. If our budget stops there, then that is the best use of it.
In order to achieve a more even reverb time across the frequency spectrum, you should use the same traps for both functions (“bass trapping” diagonally over corners and “early reflections” covering certain wall areas).
Do you think it’s possible to trust digitally adjusted monitor speakers in an untreated room, with software like Sonarworks for example?
Sonarworks in particular is a very contemporary software package that works beautifully as this piece of the puzzle. It is almost a matter of taste. Sonarworks and other digital solutions do not compensate for the dimension of TIME - therefore resonances must be solved first- but it is recommended as a final step after the bass traps handle the room’s resonances. Without adding the bass traps first, you may end up in a messy and confusing situation!
What is the ideal listening level for mixing, producing, mastering?
Around 85 dB SPL.
Should audiophiles who only enjoy listening to music care about room treatment, too?
Only if they want to hear the music without the room. Again, in an untreated room, you are listening to the room more than the music because of the way the room "colours" the sound.
Can a music producer not just use headphones and ditch room acoustics altogether?
Acoustic treatment will save a producer A LOT of time. Most processes can be done maybe 50% faster if endless referencing is not needed and they can fully trust that what they hear is what is coming out of the speakers. It's of course optional. Some producers still seem to prefer to struggle on without it! Ignorance is bliss…
Headphones will not create the soundstage achievable with a properly acoustically treated room, which is not even that hard to achieve thanks to the innovative processes suggested by Kiss Your Ears. I would always suggest to someone that works primarily in headphones to go check their mixes in a properly treated room.
As an ideal fantasy, what would be the best room form for linear sound reproduction? Would it be an anechoic chamber?
I guess technically speaking, an anechoic chamber would lead to the most "linear" sound but looking for a linear SPL is not always the most important aspect of a room's sound.
Tumblr media
Absorbers that tie the room together. No need for a carpet!
Want to drop some famous names of musicians, producers, engineers who Kiss Your Ears did room treatment for?
DVS1, Peggy Gou, Fjaak, Clouds, Hainbach, Mogwai, Palms Trax, Headless Horseman, D.Dan, Kamikaze Space Programme, Blush Response, ItaloJohnson, Ben Rau, Objekt… and companies like Elektron, Pioneer, Moog… and 500+ others!
What is one of the worst tips about studio acoustics that‘s floating around the internet, on YouTube, etc?
Wow, where do I start? Most of the "tips" online are problematic in some way or other.
I'll give you some blunt statements!
Tri-traps are an ineffective design.
Cylinder traps don't work properly.
Foam based products are inferior.
Putting diffusers at the back of the room (lowest axial mode) is a bad choice.
Those are four things that almost all acoustic treatment companies are getting wrong on a daily basis!
How much does it matter what kind or brand of monitor speakers producers use? Is more expensive more better? Can you recommend good monitor speakers (for different budgets)?
Putting expensive monitors in an untreated room is a false economy. You would be better off treating the room to a good level and getting old 80s Hi Fi speakers from ebay!
An old industry rule of thumb is that you should spend as much on your acoustic treatment as your monitors.
If you are prepared to spend some cash, I think HEDD offer incredible value in their lower range. The HEDD type 07s are amazing for the price when you want to spend around € 2.000.
Then when you want to upgrade and spend more, like € 6.000: I recommend the Adam S3Vs… For the price, those are next level. But they put out some sub bass power, so proper bass treatment is essential.

Pairing: Kita x Fem!Reader
What's Meant to Be Masterlist
As the evening continues, your group finds themselves at the rented room, filled with single people who are drinking, dancing, and having a good time. It's a different vibe from the formal wedding, but no less fun.
You're sitting at the bar, sipping a glass of wine, when Atsumu comes up behind you and grabs your shoulders.
"Let's get a shot," he slurs, obviously drunk.
"I dunno," you hum, swirling the glass in your hand.
"Come on," he pouts, leaning against you. "Just one."
"Okay, okay," you give in, rolling your eyes.
Four shots later, and you're feeling more than buzzed.
"Oh my god," you gasp. "That was awful."
"It's so good," Atsumu grins.
"No, no, no, no," you shake your head. "I'm done."
"One more," he insists.
"Jesus," Kita's voice breaks in between the two of you. "I turn around for two minutes and you're already trying to get her drunk."
"Shinsuke," Atsumu whines, wrapping his arms around his neck.
"Get lost," he says, shoving him away. "Go hang out with your other friends or something."
"But I never get to hang out with Y/N. Not since she started hanging out with you."
"What's that supposed to mean?" you question, raising a brow.
"Nothin'," he shrugs. "Just that Kita's a hog."
Kita rolls his eyes, but doesn't say anything in response.
"Whatever," Atsumu sighs as he gets up from his seat beside you. "I'm gonna go get some fresh air."
"Yeah, and I'm gonna find some people that don't annoy me," Kita adds, taking Atsumu's seat.
But before Atsumu can get anywhere, your group hears the current DJ's voice through the speakers. "Alright, alright, can I get everyone's attention," he shouts. "Our bride and groom are about to make their exit. So, everybody give it up for Mr. and Mrs. Miya!"
Cheers erupt around the room, and everyone claps for the happy couple.
"Thank you," Osamu laughs, stumbling towards his brother. "Hey, guys. So, um, my wife and I are gonna go. I hope you all have a good night."
"You too," Kita says, standing up and shaking Osamu's hand.
"And thanks for helping with the wedding," Osamu smiles at you.
"No problem," you nod, returning the smile.
"So, what are you gonna do now?" Atsumu asks his brother.
"I'm taking my wife back to my place," he answers, grinning. "We're gonna-"
"Oh, god, spare me the details," Atsumu groans.
"Whatever," Osamu rolls his eyes. "You're just jealous."
"Maybe I am," Atsumu sighs, shaking his head. "But get out of here. Enjoy your wedding night."
"That's exactly what we're gonna do," Osamu laughs, and the two brothers share a fist bump.
With that, Osamu and his new wife wave goodbye, and make their way out of the room.
"Now what?" Kita sighs.
"Well, I don't know about you two, but I'm going to go find a nice girl to take home," Atsumu smirks.
"Gross," Kita grimaces.
"See you around," Atsumu laughs, walking off.
"What a freak," Kita grumbles.
"Don't worry about him," you smile. "He's harmless."
"Yeah, yeah," Kita sighs, rubbing his temples. "I'm sorry, Y/N, but I don't think I can drive us home. I'm too drunk."
"Me too," you sigh. "And I think all the sober guests are gone."
"Fuck," Kita hisses, running a hand through his hair. "Guess we're taking an Uber."
"Sounds like a plan," you nod, standing up. "Let's go."
The two of you leave the building and walk out into the street. As you wait for the car, the alcohol really starts to hit you. Your mind is foggy, and you can barely keep your balance.
"Oh my god," you groan, leaning against the wall. "This sucks."
"Yeah," Kita sighs. "I'm never drinking again."
You laugh at his comment. "God, I remember you saying that back in high school," you remind him.
"But I meant it this time," he mumbles, his words slurring. "I swear, I'm gonna quit tomorrow."
"Whatever you say," you roll your eyes.
As you continue to wait for the car, your phone suddenly starts ringing. When you pull it out of your purse, you see that it's a call from Atsumu.
"Hey, Atsumu," you answer.
"Hey," he says, his voice coming through the speaker. "Are you still at the venue?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Can you do me a favor and grab my keys from the front desk? They're in the pocket of my jacket. I can't find them anywhere, and I'm not drunk enough to be losing shit like this," he asks pleadingly.
"Why can't you?" you ask, slightly annoyed.
"I just puked in the trash can," he admits.
"Ew, Tsumu," you groan.
"I'm so sorry," he mumbles.
"Ugh, fine, I'll go look for them," you give in. "Just hold on."
When you hang up the phone, you turn to Kita apologetically.
"What's wrong?" he asks, raising a brow.
"Atsumu needs his house keys, and he left them at the front desk," you sigh.
"Great," Kita mutters. "Should I cancel the Uber?"
"For now," you nod.
"Fine," he says, pressing a few buttons on his phone. "Let's go."
The two of you stumble your way back into the building and make your way to the front desk. You search around for Atsumu's coat and finally find it burried in the pile. You rummage around until you find his keys and pull them out.
"There they are," you smile triumphantly.
"Awesome," Kita nods, turning back to the door. "Now let's go."
But before either of you can leave, the two of you are met with Suna, who is rushing out of the door.
"Oh, shit," he curses, nearly bumping into you.
"What's up?" Kita asks.
"Oh, uh, nothing," Suna smiles.
"Are you leaving?" you ask.
"Yeah, I'm pretty drunk," he laughs.
"And how are you getting home... If you don't mind me asking?"
"I'm going with some friends," he explains. "They're waiting outside."
"Gotcha," Kita nods.
"So, where are you two going?" he then asks, smirking with an idea.
"We're going to Atsumu," you interrupt, causing him to look extremely confused.
"Don't tell me you're actually going to-"
"No! Of course not," Kita rolls his eyes. "We're going to help the drunk idiot."
"Oh," Suna breathes a sigh of relief.
"What did you think we were doing?" you ask half unsure if you should really be questioning it.
"Oh, um," Suna stutters, rubbing the back of his neck. "I thought maybe you two were gonna, um..."
"What?" Kita asks, raising a brow.
"I thought you two were going to..." Suna continues, his face reddening. "Y'know..."
"Go home, Suna," Kita groans, shoving him out of the coatroom. "Your friends are waiting for you."
"Yeah, okay," Suna nods, smiling awkwardly.
"See ya later," Kita says, pushing him out the door.
"Yeah, see ya," Suna waves, stumbling down the hall.
The two of you then turn to each other and shake your heads.
"What the hell was that?" you chuckle.
"I have no idea," Kita sighs.
"Let's get back to Atsumu," you say, taking Kita's hand. You then lead him over to the elevator and push the button. As you wait for the doors to open, Kita leans against the wall and lets out a deep sigh.
"What's wrong?" you ask, looking up at him.
"Nothing," he mutters, his cheeks reddening.
"What?"
"Nothing," he repeats, shaking his head. "I'm just thinking about..."

Also, @riveliciousx, and anyone else who wants to know, some fun facts about Casa Discordia.
There was a large wooden sign out front that had been used to advertise it as being for rent. When we moved in, we did NOT remove the sign but, rather, painted over it and I painted on a decorative version of "Casa Discordia" facing the street. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to spell "Discordia" and, when I asked, was told "Dis-cord-i-a" which my raised-as-a-musician ass thought meant "Dischordia" I had to redo it.
The reason the house was called Casa Discordia was because the head of the house was a Discordian, as were several of the original members and, soon after moving in, we painted a giant golden apple on the hallway wall. Also of note was the sign above the door which read "New Sith Order" in the actual sith writing because hot damn did we love Star Wars.
One of the first nights we moved in, while we were still exploring the house, there was a massive thunderstorm outside. We were all trying to stay safe in the common room because there were still holes in the windows at that point which we hadn't boarded up yet. We were there, discussing Star Wars, when one of the guys, a fella named "Reverend Lucifer Cross" (nobody used their real names in this house) showed up holding a wooden box with a masking tape cross on it. "Look what I found!" he said gleefully. Monk, the house leader, pulled the lid off it and discovered it was an old case of shotgun shells, from back when they were still made of cardboard. Just then, lightning struck nearby and the lights went out for a moment. When they came back on, Monk stared at Rev and said "If the Zombie apocalypse begins because of this I'm blaming YOU."
Upon first exploring the house, we went into the basement. Down there, we found a bunch of diner booths (like you'd see in McDs in the 80s) a bar, a 60s style refrigerator, a painting of a demon on the wall, and a weird door in the back that was bolted and chained shut. Naturally, that was the door we went for. Taking the boards and chains off, we opened it.. and discovered what was literally a dungeon with chains hanging from the walls and a drain on the floor. It was giving off the worst energy any of us had ever felt in our lives and, yeah, we immediately closed the door, chained and boarded it shut again, and the door was never opened ever again.
There was an addition to the house that was a 2 story club room. It had blacklight paint all over the walls, diner booths in the balcony (like the ones downstairs), a DJ booth in the corner, and a large rack for a speaker system. It was called the Boom Boom Room, not because we named it that, but because it was spraypainted on the wall when we got there. Also, the one window was broken. (There were a fair number of those when we moved in.) We ended up setting it up that one of the light switches turned on the regular lights while the other lit the whole room up with blacklight. And then we had MMA fights in there.
The house IIRC had about 20 bedrooms and 20 bathrooms with damn near every bedroom having a bathroom attached to it, although some bedrooms shared a bathroom. Also, there was a common bathroom on both the first and second floor with the downstairs one having a bathtub in it (that was permanently welded shut in the drain) and not one but TWO shower stalls in the upstairs one. We also found a trap door in a crawl space on the third floor that opened into one of the second floor bedrooms. Supposedly, according to what we heard soon after moving in, the house was originally built as a BROTHEL way back in the day and had just never been torn down, only converted into a residence. Before us it had been a frat house. It came pre-installed with said trap door and dungeon, a broken pool table, bullet holes in the walls, and a dead bird that had flown THROUGH the one window and never escaped. Anyway, Casa Discordia was the most insane place I've ever lived in my life and I miss it every day, it was completely batshit but good GOD was it home.
