They’re partially bioluminescent! Because of the glowing, they are blind in that eye — the multiple eyes on their other side give them poor depth perception. Generally, their eyesight is considered poor and they are nearsighted.

If you get close, they will also move in close to get a gooood look at ‘ya.

They’re also quite scary to encounter in a dark room, you know?

The Lionfish Z - 56 - Codename: “Lionfish,” real name: “Kylin Kierra” is a large feline-like entity; it is characterized for its “werewolf-like” movement and bright red appearance. It should be noted that despite their heavy appearance and large size, they are incredibly lithe and light-footed: mild caution should be considered when approaching or being approached by Z - 56 as they may become unpredictable. Z - 56’s exact height is unknown as their height would fluctuate with their posture — their shoulder height averaged about a stud above an average-height human on four legs and more than double the height while standing on two.

Curiously, Z - 56 can be considered docile, or, in special circumstances, friendly. Many faculty members reported that they tolerated or even liked being pet, and could produce a noise akin to a purr or rumble. In late 2015, Z - 56’s, the “Kylin Kierra” case, was reopened following the wrongful conviction of ███████, and no new evidence was recovered, leaving Z - 56’s conviction in place. Kylin Kierra was legally considered deceased following the report. After the experiment concluded, Z - 56 was permitted to roam the Oxygen Rooms.

Z - 56 was euthanized following the Blacksite’s original lockdown. They were believed to be deceased for ██ months before reappearing on CCTV footage within the facility. It is unknown if Z - 56 has interacted or will interact with EXR-Ps.

hi! love your blog, i love getting to see all these cool cat colors i didnt even know were a thing LOL like i didn’t know there was such a thing as lilac or cinnamon but theyre so pretty.

ive been looking into getting a ragdoll in the future, the ones i have met have been the sweetest cats and they’re so pretty.

ive been doing research into possible health concerns they can have, and all im really seeing is the same things your typical random little guy could have when improperly cared for and things like that. kidney disease while on a bad diet, issues with hairballs when not brushed and groomed properly due to being long haired, etc. ive seen a few places say that they’re more prone to respiratory issues and heart disease, but the latter also seems to be something that breeders work to make sure their cats are safe from? at least in my research.

i guess im basically just wondering if you know anything else that can affect ragdolls specifically, or if there’s anything horribly unethical that’s totally swept under the rug or hidden about them! additional things to research and places to look would be appreciated, i never know where to research stuff like this reliably and you seem to know where to find some good info and stuff on cat breeds :)

Ragdolls are definitely cool cats and they’re a pretty health breed, one of the major things to be mindful of is that this assessment only applies to well-bred individuals from good breeders.

Common breeds mean a lot of breeders which, unfortunately, also means a lot of scammers and bad breeders.

And the Ragdoll is a very common breed so there are a lot of not so good breeders out there… and the temperament and health of these backyard bred cats is a gamble, one that can end in heartbreak.

Now with that warning out of the way the big thing to worry about with the breed is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Fortunately the mutation responsible for this condition in the breed has been identified and can be tested for. Staying on top of heart health is an absolute must for a good breeder, this means regular echocardiogram’s as well as DNA testing.

The other big ones are Polycystic Kidney Disease and Progressive Retinal Atrophy, both of which can be tested for. These are common inherited disorders in the purebred population, you’ll have a hard time finding a breed which neither of these have been documented in.

Mucopolysaccharidosis VI is a storage disease that has been documented in the Ragdoll breed but it can be tested for and I’m not sure how common it is in current breeding populations.

A breeder shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to health testing, there are several commercially available tests which look for a wide variety of inherited disorders. Optimal Selection is becoming increasingly widely used, although personally I would feel most comfortable with testing submitted through somewhere like UC Davis.

But HCM is the big big one because heart disease is a silent killer. With the other conditions clinical symptoms will be apparent but a cat with HCM could appear normal and you wouldn’t know without testing. And remember - not all cardiac cases will have a heart murmur, either!

The other thing to keep in mind with Ragdolls is they seem to be more prone to developing Feline Infectious Peritonitis. This one is a little more complicated.

FIP occurs due to mutations in the feline coronavirus, which is a common viral infection in cats. Until recently FIP was considered nearly 100% fatal but thanks to Dr. Niels Pederson we now have a promising cure. One of our patients was actually one of the original study cats and has been doing well all this time, she’s amazing to work with - like a piece of living history!

One of the big problems with the treatment is the legality of it… for a long time it was only available through the black market and could easily run you thousands of dollars. Treatment is gradually becoming available through legal venues but it depends on where you live.

Anyways, the point is that we don’t know exactly why these mutations occur in some cats and not others but there’s strong evidence that there’s a genetic component - it’s common for related cats to develop FIP, we’ve seen this multiple times with littermates. We also know that it occurs at a higher incidence in some breeds than others…

And presumably your kitten wouldn’t have been exposed to feline coronavirus at the cattery but it’s not unlikely that they would be exposed at some point in their life given they don’t reside in a bubble… and if or when this happens what are the chances it’ll become the dreaded FIP?

So mitigating this risk when purchasing from a breeder can be a little more complicated… it’s not something I think should turn you off of the breed but it is something to keep in mind - and if you look into a breeder that seems good but has a lot of reviews or reports of their graduate kittens and cats developing FIP? Probably best to keep looking.

I think that’s a pretty good summary on the breed’s health but people are always welcome to chime in!

The biggest victims on Tantibus are "monsters", also called "mutts", categorized as any omioso with DNA spliced with another creature. This may be demon, angel, or genuine animal genes. They're spliced as embryos, but can also be artificially made.

Harpies [angel and bird hybrids]

Half-demons [omioso and demon, like Benny]

Surgically created mutts will commonly have many health complications, like diseases, infections, and tissue rejection. Most natural born monsters will be healthy. They're generally well liked and treated as equals by mortals and demons regardless, especially demons. Demon and monster hybrids are common and very healthy and strong.

However, they are treated as disposable and lesser by Tantibusian scientists, who use them to test products and experiment on. None of it is consensual despite monsters/mutts being sentient and able to speak, feel pain, and be part of society. They're occasionally kidnapped from their families, but test mutts are usually born in labs and die in labs. This is all illegal, but it's hard for tantibus' guardians to find and prosecute these organizations because of loopholes and their generally underground nature.

Natural born monsters are distinguishable from test mutts and artificially made monsters by facial scars. Their creators/captors will mark their face and body with sauntering irons, so they will be easier to identify. They usually have marks on their cheeks which are somewhat related to their spliced gene, like creatures spliced with felines will have tiny scars made to mimic whiskers. They also have tags on their ears, but those can be removed. Their species is sautered into the back of their neck. They may also be tattooed, like creatures spliced with canines will have the tips of their noses filled in with ink. They have ID numbers on their left lapels. Even if a monster gets their extra parts cut off, they'll still be identifiable by their scars and tattoos.

A lot of monsters from labs have been rescued and placed in protection, labs won't give up their subjects easily. They will track them down and try to bring them back, but they're given bodyguards, who are usually demons or large natural born monsters. Many scientists will be found violently mauled, eviscerated, or beaten to death by the bodyguard, or maybe even the lab mutt. Most artificially made monsters don't know how to fight or use their new parts though, since they're just modified omioso. So, they're usually unable to help at all. Not that their bodyguard would need any help with that, they're guarding them by choice, out of love for other living creatures. Protecting a lab mutt is a full time job, so they live together unless the bodyguardee lives in a special facility. Special facilities are safehouses for them, where they're kept at night. It's locked up tight and armed to the max. Lab mutts are demure and are basically attached to their guard at the hip, to the point where many have full blown panic attacks when they're seperated. Guards know they'll be with their mutt until the day one of them dies, and they don't mind that.

Cat owners are admitting that they are baffled by their pet’s behaviour.

A poll of 2,000 cat owners has revealed 47% ‘don’t get’ their furry friend, while 87% feel stumped by their quirky behaviours.

However, it’s the power of a cat being able to differentiate the opening of a treat packet over a salad bag that confuses people the most.

Cats also like to get their claws into everything they see – but their persistent clawing of furniture, instead of scratching posts and random outbreaks of five-minute ‘zoomies’, also features on the top 30 list of weirdest cat traits.

Despite their strange ways, 65% wouldn’t change anything about their fluffy friend and 53% find most things they do hilarious.

The research was carried out by Wisdom Panel in an effort to bring us closer to the felines in our lives.

Partnering with The Scratching Post rescue charity, during a time when abandonment cases are at an all-time high, the DNA testing company has launched the world’s first catwalk for cats as fashion week draws to a close.

It showcases their diversity and beauty while trying to encourage cat adoption.

Susan Delaney, founder of The Scratching Post, says: ‘The past few months have been incredibly challenging for rescue charities.

‘Shelters have always struggled with abandonment, however the cost-of-living crisis has definitely contributed to more people having to part ways with their pets.

‘Adoptions have also been impacting, reducing by 40% since pre pandemic levels, which unfortunately is causing rehoming centres to hit crisis point.

‘It was fun to showcase the personalities of our cats that are available for adoption, whilst also celebrating global fashion weeks.’

Other bizarre cat behaviours that we are intrigued by include moggies being obsessed with empty boxes and lying down on clothes you’ve put on the bed.

Meanwhile, the mystery of going from cuddling to ‘attack mode’ without warning is also on the list.

The average cat owner will have four felines in their lifetime – with 39% admitting their current one is their ‘best friend’.

Unsurprisingly, 56% admit they find it hard to resist treating their own cat. However, there is some distrust among owners with 36% suspecting their pet goes from house to house eating food from other people.

More than half (55%) believe each cat has many different personalities, with 52% wishing they could communicate with their kitty through language.

And according to the OnePoll study, almost half (48%) go as far as ‘meowing’ back as a way of communicating with their feline friend.

Georgina Richardson, head of Wisdom Panel UK, explains: ‘Each feline catwalk model was tested with our new DNA kits – screening for 70+ breeds and populations, 45+ genetic health conditions, blood type and 25+ physical trait tests.

‘We were thrilled to have ITV This Morning’s vet Dr Scott Miller present the results at the event, uncovering the unique traits and genetic makeup of each rescue cat.

‘We really want to encourage potential cat-owners to consider adoption and to do it properly by DNA testing them first in order to truly understand them.’

This disease affects cats of the Bengal breed, but responsible breeders have taken steps to minimize the risk of the disease. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) causes blindness in cats. The disease usually begins around 7 weeks of age and progresses slowly. By two years of age, the affected cat's eyesight will be completely compromised. This disease is incurable and no treatment is currently available. Some cats with the disease can have a normal copy of the PRA gene. The disease is genetic and can be inherited by blood from one parent. Cats with the disorder may have anemia, but the symptoms are not typically severe. It can occur slowly or rapidly, depending on the severity of the anemia. Some cats may not even have symptoms of PKD. Genetic testing is needed to diagnose this condition. As a result, the kitten usually dies within a few days after birth. While NI can affect any cat breed, it is more common in breeds that have type B blood. While there are no specific treatments for PK deficiency, the condition can be treated in cats with proper diet and regular care. When it comes to revealing when and how wild felines became couch kitties, the cat is starting to come out of the bag. Cats were likely first tamed in the Middle East. Later, they spread — first by land, then by sea — to the rest of the world, researchers now report.

Early farmers brought cats with them to Europe from the Middle East by 6,400 years ago. That’s the conclusion from looking at DNA from 352 ancient cats. A second wave of migration, perhaps by ship, appears to have occurred some 5,000 years later. That’s when Egyptian cats quickly colonized Europe and the Middle East.

Researchers describe how they came to these dates in a new study. It was published June 19 in Nature Ecology & Evolution.

Domestication (Doh-MES-ti-kay-shun) is the long and slow process by which people have adapted wild animals or plants to be tame and useful. Wolves became dogs, for instance. Wild ox became cattle. And wildcats became house cats.

Exactly where and when this happened to cats, though, has been a matter of great debate. Researchers had only the DNA from modern cats to work with. These data showed that house cats had been tamed from African wildcats. What was not clear was when domesticated cats began to spread around the world. Now, new ways of studying ancient DNA are pointing to some answers.

Eva-Maria Geigl and Thierry Grange are behind this deepest dive yet into the genetic history of cats. They are molecular biologists. Both work at the Institute Jacques Monod in Paris, France. Mitochondria (My-tow-KON-dree-uh) are tiny energy-producing structures inside cells. They contain a bit of DNA. Only mothers, not fathers, pass mitochondria (and its DNA) to their offspring. Scientists use slightly different varieties of mitochondrial DNA, called mitotypes, to track the female side of families.

Geigl, Grange and their colleagues collected mitochondrial DNA from 352 ancient cats and 28 modern wildcats. These felines spanned 9,000 years. They came from regions stretching across Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia.

Ancient Egyptians often depicted cats in paintings and statues. Cats were frequently first portrayed as hunters killing snakes. Later, they showed felines curled up under chairs (like this cat from a copy of a wall painting in the private tomb of a man named Nakht in Thebes). That progression may mirror the cat’s transformation from a solitary, wild hunter that captured vermin around ancient farmers’ grain stores to a sociable house pet, say researchers involved in a new study.

People probably encouraged the cats to hang around as a way for these farmers to control mice, rats, snakes and other vermin. The arrangement would have been “mutually profitable for both sides,” explains Grange.

No one really knows how friendly people and cats were with each other at the beginning of cat domestication. Some people may have been very close to their pet cats. Indeed, one person on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, 9,500 years ago, was buried with a cat. Says Geigl, this suggests that some people, back then, already had close ties to cats.

Before early farmers started migrating from the Middle East to Europe, European wildcats (Felis silvestris silvestris) carried one mitotype. It’s called clade I. A 6,400-year-old Bulgarian cat and a 5,200-year-old Romanian cat had a different type of mitochondrial DNA. They both had mitotype IV-A*. That mitotype was previously seen only in domesticated cats from what is now Turkey.

Cats are territorial and usually don’t roam far. This suggests people must have transported cats to Europe.

Wildcats and early domestic cats all looked the same with tiger-striped, mackerel coat patterns. Now, though, about 80 percent of modern domestic cats carry a mutation that gives a cat a blotched tabby coat pattern. New genetic data suggest this mutation first popped up in Southwest Asia during the Middle Ages. (Boxes in chart represent ancient cats sampled as part of a DNA study. Blue indicates mackerel coats and red the blotched tabby pattern.) The blotched look may have spread rapidly because it helped people distinguish their kitties from all the mackerel look-alikes.

Mummies (and more) tell another story

Domesticated cats in Africa — including three cat mummies from Egypt — had yet another mitotype. It’s known as IV-C. Until about 2,800 years ago, that type was found mostly in Egypt. But then it began showing up in Europe and the Middle East. And between 1,600 and 700 years ago, it spread far and fast. By then, seven of nine of the ancient European cats the researchers tested now carried this Egyptian type of DNA. Among them was a 1,300- to 1,400-year-old cat from a Viking port far to the north, on the Baltic Sea.

Thirty-two of 70 cats from Southwest Asia also had that mitotype. That rapid spread may indicate that sailors traveled with cats, some of which could have jumped ship to find a new home.

The speedy spread of the Egyptian cats’ DNA could mean that something made these animals especially attractive to people, Geigl and Grange say. House cats aren’t much different from wildcats. The big difference is that domestic cats tolerate people. And the Egyptian cats may have been particularly friendly. They may have more resembled the type of purring pet found in homes today, the researchers speculate. Earlier house cats might have been more comfortable with people than wildcats were, but still have qualified as scaredy cats.

There’s not enough evidence to say that, counters Carlos Driscoll of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. Working at its Laboratory of Comparative Behavioral Genomics, he studies the genetic bases of some behavioral traits. And Driscoll now suggests another reason why Egyptian cats got popular so fast: They may have lived along shipping and trade routes. That would have made hopping a boat to some new port easy, especially if they offered to work as mousers on the ship.

Earlier cats may have been just as popular, Driscoll says, but moving them would have been harder. Those early cats, he says, would have been “dependent on somebody putting a bunch of kittens in a basket and walking across a desert with them.”

[Project Shadow] as titled by the International Health & Safety Summit is the conclusion of a string of three consecutive long-term experiments, namely following Projects Still-Life and Everis. Objective: creating the “Ultimate Lifeform”, a living being immune to all manners of illnesses, diseases, and permanent disabilities; with a perfect immune system; physically superior form in terms of [fitness]; and potentially immortal.

October 3rd, 1952 [Project Shadow] is officially launched as off [this day]; the base genomes¹ are finished² and being transferred to laboratory #8 for treatment and curating.

² There are seven [finished] genomes, all constituted from different, carefully selected “Mobian” subspecies DNA mixed with [redacted] DNA, henceforth referred to as ‘’Siblings’’ for the continuation of [Project Shadow]. Following [his] research and discoveries on projects Still-Life and Everis, [Prof. Robotnik] has also designed a way to stimulate specific divisions of the artificial genomes, as a way to control the scale and effects of hybridity throughout their growth.

Preemptive tests will be performed to ensure the utmost likeliness of treatment success, then the Siblings will be exposed to the Shrine¹.

November 15th, 1952 The Shrine procedure was successful. All Siblings were imbued with massive amounts of “Chaos” energy. Heartbeats were detected in the following seconds. The now-living embryos have been moved to their respective incubators in laboratory #5 and their vitals will be under the surveillance of qualified [Project Shadow] scientists 24/7.

Note: As theorized by [Prof. Robotnik’s] research on [Echidna culture], all of the [redacted] used in the Shrine as a power source disappeared after use, presumably scattered around the Earth once more.

November 19th, 1952 Sibling B2 has deceased due to a heart-burst. All other Siblings vitals are more than three times as fast as they should be at this stage. An observation has been issued that the energy they were exposed to in the Shrine is still actively coursing through them, making it near impossible for their barely-existing organs to sustain.

It was decided that nutrients doses will be doubled so the excess energy may be focused into their growth rather than organic functions. This may result in significantly accelerated growth.

December 1st, 1952 Sibling B6 has deceased due to respiratory failure. There were no obvious signs of organic dysfunction, but the autopsy reveals the oxygen supply was insufficient. Augmenting it for the surviving siblings would present a risk given there is no evidence that their current system can support it. On the assumption that [redacted] require no oxygen to survive, it was decided that [redacted] genes in the respiratory system would be stimulated and hypothetically allow the Siblings to survive on lesser quantities of oxygen.

December 16th, 1952 Sibling B3 has deceased due to unknown causes. The deceased embryo was dissected, but it was too small to identify a cause of death. All Siblings vitals appear unusual, either weak or unstable. Additional equipment was requested to survey their condition with more precision so that [we] may intervene in a timely manner for the survivors.

December 18th, 1952 Sibling B5 has deceased due to organ incompatibility. It is theorized that Sibling B3 endured the same fate. New scanners allowed for the observation of the different chemical elements at work inside their bodies. Each render shows that the mix of [redacted] and “Mobian” DNA is causing a “free-range” situation where both sets of genetics are battling to take over development, resulting in lethal cross between nerves, cells, and organs.

It was decided that immediate action would be taken to stop this parasite effect. Every available gene will be either stimulated or numbed 24/7 as a way to prevent the hybridity battling itself. This procedure will require even closer surveillance and additional resources, but it is crucial for the Siblings’ survival.

The Project Shadow department will be divided in three teams that will be assigned one of the three remaining Siblings to monitor them individually. Those divisions will be making the decisions regarding which genes to stimulate and numb for their respective Sibling.

December 27th, 1952 All three Siblings have been stabilized. Their current condition continues to require occasional adjustments, but their vitals are consistent. They are now big enough to observe externally; their heads, arms and legs are distinct and scanners are no longer required to determine the location of their organs. Physical growth should occur without complications.

Note: The energy they were exposed to in the Shrine still seems to be coursing through B1 and B7.

February 6th, 1953 Infant growth is complete. All three Siblings have reached “child” status in terms of physical maturity. They will continue to be fed and oxygenated through artificial means, but organ support will be gradually turned off, as they are now capable of supporting themselves. Their growth will no longer be influenced through artificial means. The Siblings will be inversely gradually submitted to sedative, as they would otherwise now be hypothetically capable of waking up.

February 9th, 1953 Sibling B4 has deceased due to growth pain. The enhanced immune system appears to be boosting their natural growth at a rapid rate, mainly in terms of bone, muscle and organ expansion, and causing the Siblings nearly insurmountable amounts of pain. The two remaining Siblings will be put in stasis for an undetermined period while B4 will be fully autopsied.

February 14th, 1953 An official meeting occurred between [Prof. Robotnik] and the other four lead scientists spearheading Project Shadow, Dr. Lucie Hengsbach, Dr. Isma Naifeh, Dr. Blair Mccarthy and Dr. Tenji Kalaya.

It was suggested that the Siblings be awakened and allowed to grow into adults at a normal rate, which was estimated would take anywhere between ten and fifteen years. However, [Prof. Robotnik] insisted to find a way to allow the Siblings to withstand the accelerated growth, lest the entire research planned to follow Project Shadow’s completion be put on hold for several years.

It was hypothesized that stimulating the [redacted] genes present in the Siblings’ skeletons may contributed in that endeavor, seeing as [redacted] typically undertake very sudden and extreme growth spurts. The experiment was approved and the Siblings are being transferred to larger pods to resume their growth.

March 14th, 1953 The Siblings have survived child growth. Their body shapes are very characteristic to that of their “Mobian” counterparts. Their organs and brains are fully functional. New medical equipment has been ordered to issue the first blood and DNA tests as their first teenage hormones are released and they begin their last stage of growth.

March 28th, 1953 The blood tests all came back with positive results, both Siblings showcasing prime health. The DNA tests, as hypothesized, came back much different than those of the original genomes due to the constant tempering with genes. They also display largely different chromosomes in different sources, classifying the Siblings as “chimera” types of hybrids, a first in all known records of the Earth’s history.

Immunity tests will begin today; basic illness bacteria will be mixed to the liquids flowing through their pods to ensure that they are indeed immune.

March 30th, 1953 Sibling B1 has deceased due to sudden illness. Its immune system succumbed to a minor flu virus in a matter of hours. It is unclear how it has become so vulnerable after receiving the best possible treatment; the most likely hypothesis being that manipulating its genome has somehow undone the immunity effect over the months.

Immunity tests on Sibling B7 are halted until there is confirmation that the ones operated until now did not affect it.

April 4th, 1953 All tests on Sibling B7 came back with positive results; all viruses that made contact were immediately repelled and recent blood tests confirm that B7 remains perfectly healthy. Immunity tests will resume with stronger diseases and forced injury to observe its healing capacities.

April 22nd, 1953 Sibling B7 was confirmed to be immune to all known diseases, and is capable of repelling both natural and artificial viruses. It also bears the anticipated healing capacities, having healed broken bones and severed veins in a matter of hours. It has, despite those tests, continued to mature at a rapid rate. What was thought to be internal bleeding is, after observations, only some of its [black] fur turning into a red color as it grows.

Note: Being the only remaining Sibling, B7 is henceforth re-named “Project Shadow”.

May 2nd, 1953 Project Shadow opened its eyes. Its brain activity was too low to confirm any form of consciousness, but it grows gradually closer to waking up of its own accord. It is hypothetically developing an immunity to the sedative. Recent scans showcase a decrease in growth speed, confirming that Project Shadow is almost fully mature.

May 29th, 1953 An official meeting occurred between [Prof. Robotnik] and the other four lead scientists spearheading Project Shadow, Dr. Lucie Hengsbach, Dr. Isma Naifeh, Dr. Blair Mccarthy and Dr. Tenji Kalaya. Due to it becoming increasingly difficult to keep it unconscious and to the fact that it is now physically mature, an official date of awakening was settled on, two weeks from [this day].

June 13th, 1953 [Prof. Robotnik] was located behind a layered of tempered glass to oversee the operation, while Dr. Lucie Hengsbach, Dr. Isma Naifeh, Dr. Blair Mccarthy and Dr. Tenji Kalaya were selected to handle Project Shadow firsthand. The pod was emptied and laid in a horizontal position. The sedative intakes were gradually lowered. As hypothesized, Project Shadow awakened within a minute.

Ocular and auditive reflexes were fully responsive. It first displayed confusion, then discomfort. It ripped out most of its IVs and stood up despite scientist protests. It was noted that scanners indicated extremely high energy levels, and increasing. Project Shadow broke out of containment and ran off at also extremely high speeds, and increasing. It was impossible to chase, so the entire station was put on alert so all residents would be confined to their quarters while qualified personnel began searching.

Project Shadow was found unconscious on the outside of the colony more than seventy miles from its awakening chamber. It was sedated and sealed back inside its pod.

Note: After getting the situation under control, several scientists suggested giving Project Shadow a proper name now that it is officially a living creature. After a long debate, the team settled on “Terios”.

June 14th, 1953 Project Shadow was awakened a second time with additional precautions. Its chamber was sealed with heavy 12-inch steel doors to prevent it from breaking out. It was also freed from all manners of IVs save for sedative, which was only tuned down enough to allow it to wake up rather than entirely removed. [Prof. Robotnik] also had additional energy scanners installed.

Project Shadow’s reaction upon waking up was similar; displaying confusion, discomfort, and panic. [Prof. Robotnik] insisted that the scientists involved talk to it. It seemed vaguely responsive, until its energy levels escalated too high again and it had to be fully sedated again.

[Prof. Robotnik] observed that its energy levels seemed to more or less fluctuate with the emotions it was displaying, and theorizes that its unquantifiable rising energy is the “Chaos” energy still coursing through it from the day it was created. It was decided that Project Shadow would not be awakened again until a device was designed to attempt to stabilize said energy.

Note: Everyone still calls it “Shadow”.

June 19th, 1953 [Prof. Robotnik] delved back into Echidna culture research. There are implications that, while “Chaos” energy is the most unstable form of energy that “Mobians” can come into contact with, “Ring” energy is the polar opposite in that it is the most stable. [Prof. Robotnik] hypothesized that “rings” were the answer to Project Shadow’s instability, and had “rings” delivered to the station. After two days of tinkering with some of said “rings”, it is believed that they could indeed serve as a sort of shackle on Project Shadow’s energy.

Project Shadow was awakened once again, this time with no IVs nor sedatives, but with the rings clipped around its wrists. [Prof. Robotnik] was also alone with it at [his] request. He talked to it while his main team surveyed the energy scans and confirmed that everything looked stable.

[Prof. Robotnik] eventually instigated a form of communication with Project Shadow, showing it how to nod and shake its head to respond. After a few minutes of consistant back-and-forth, the other scientists were dismissed under [Prof. Robotnik’s] assurance that “it’s fine.”

Three hours later, Project Shadow fell asleep of its own accord. [Prof. Robotnik] pointed out that it is fully sentient, and therefore insisted that it will no longer be regarded as “Project Shadow”, but rather as its his own person. Therefore, further research on the physiology and status as the successfully created “Ultimate Lifeform” of one named “Shadow” will henceforth be logged in a different journal.
