I love the idea of John hearing that you want a divorce and just deciding you're clearly not in your right mind and can't be trusted to make decisions for yourself anymore.

When you try to leave him, it’s during a big argument…. A big argument. Things were getting heated, the argument reaching its peak and turning into a screaming match that ended up with the police being called.

He’d seen a chance, and he’d taken it.

He could almost convince himself that what he’d done had been out of genuine concern for you… He knew better, but he couldn’t admit it, not when he’d then proceeded to do far worse with even less justification.

Oh, how you’d glared when he told the officer that he was worried about you- that your behavior was “irrational”.

And it was… at least in his mind. He just didn’t mention specifics, lest the good officers definition of irrationality differ from his own.

Just like how when he’d told the officer about your self harm and suicidal thoughts, he didn’t mention how long ago that had been, nor did he mention the treatment you’d received since then.

And that’s really all it took. From the moment the officer gave John that sympathetic glance, he’d known he’d won. When the man takes John to the side, quietly asking him if he thought you needed to be brought to a facility, John turned, giving you an apologetic look as you glared at him, fists clenched in anger as you silently fumed.

“Yes… I think that would be for the best.” He says softly, faking guilt and internal conflict over the decision.

Seeing the betrayal and confusion in your eyes had almost made him regret it.

Almost.

But he knew this was for the best. You weren’t in your right mind- how else could you say you wanted to leave him?

And the more he repeated those words, the more he came to believe them.

Of course, the involuntary hold would only last 72 hours, and John knew you’d be livid once you got out. He had to make sure he was ready for you to come home. All it had really given him was time.

The emergency conservatorship is surprisingly easy to acquire. Your admittance to the mental hospital combined with you not being able to appear in court and defend yourself made it a relatively easy win.

Getting a proper conservatorship set up would be a bit more difficult of a process, but John had already contacted Nikolai and asked him for assistance with finding a doctor willing to… fudge the truth a bit for the papers. The man’s contacts would also come in hand when it came to getting his hands on some of the medications he’d be keeping on hand until you settled down a bit… just for when you got yourself a bit too worked up.

It’s a rough couple months, because christ- you’re beyond livid with him. Once you finally wear yourself out with all your crying and screaming, John’s left with a sobbing wife who looks up at him with her eyes heart broken from betrayal.

It breaks his heart when you look at him like that, but he has to remind himself, this is all for your sake. You’ll understand that one day.

John takes to his new task of caring for his wife with a steady but firm hand, allowing you to pout and mope for a few weeks as you adjust to what is- admittedly- a big change. It’s only when you turn that anger towards him or bring up wanting to leave that he has to correct you.

When he hands you a cup of water and a little blue pill, you know he’s not asking.

The Midazolam usually does the trick, but occasionally John has to be a bit harsher in his corrections.

He has faith you’ll come around. He doesn’t even hold your behavior against you, his poor wife is dealing with a lot, and if stepping up to take care of you is what he needs to do to keep you with him safe, then that’s what he’ll do.

And when you do finally accept your new life? He couldn’t be happier. He’s so glad you were finally able to move past what he’d done- what had to be done to protect you.

The NWSL’s new CBA finally did what I’ve wanted this league to do for years and it’s about damn time. No draft, no expansion draft, no trades without consent, AND free agency when a contract is up regardless of tenure in the league. A lot of these new things are standard in most other elite women’s professional leagues and it’s sad that it’s taken the NWSL so long to get to this point but amazing to see some of these standard practices finally being put in place! Proud of the athletes for working so hard to make this happen because it’s what they deserve.

Why is Hera so hostile to Leto in a manner that she isn't with the other lovers of Zeus? I can't think of any other woman who was targeted so much by Hera. One could say she didn't want Leto to give birth because her children would be a competition to Hera's children, but why bother her even after she had already given birth? Is it because Leto herself is also a threat to Hera?

I don't think Leto would ever be a threat to Hera's role as the queen of the gods but Hera might see her as a competitor for Zeus' affection, even though I think Zeus would not marry someone else and replace Hera.

The twins are definitely a big reason why Hera begrudged Leto - it is outright stated in the Callimachus Hymn to Delos that the reason Hera especially targeted Leto was because she was told that Apollo would be dearer to Zeus than Ares is. Zeus is very proud of Artemis as well. As he himself puts it, he doesn't mind facing Hera's wrath for children like her.

But the continued hatred even after the birth of the twins (like sending Tityus to rape Leto) could have been for different reasons. This wasn't like one of those affairs Zeus would have with mortal women where he'd leave them behind once the child is conceived. Neither could Hera, despite her many attempts, get rid of Leto like she did with the other lovers. Not only did Leto give Zeus children that he loves dearly, she also stayed on Olympus despite Hera's hatred towards her (which isn't directed to any of Zeus' other divine mistresses, btw). It might have also been because Leto herself is dear to Zeus, if the way she's treated on Olympus is any proof. In the Homeric hymn to Apollo, Leto stands next to Zeus - in the Olympian assembly - to welcome their son. Hera is completely absent from the scene, as if Leto had taken her place even if temporarily. Now you could say this is because Apollo himself is such a powerful and glorious son in a way that no other son of Zeus is, so of course Leto would get such an honor (the hymn itself presents it this way).

But here's another instance - in the Iliad, when Hera goes to seduce Zeus, he is obviously very smitten but before getting into the action, he lists some of his lovers (I believe these were his favorite lovers, as a lot of others are not mentioned):

"for never has such desire for goddess or mortal woman so gripped and overwhelmed my heart, not even when I was seized by love for Ixion’s wife, who gave birth to Peirithous the gods’ rival in wisdom; or for Acrisius’ daughter, slim-ankled Danaë, who bore Perseus, greatest of warriors; or for the far-famed daughter of Phoenix, who gave me Minos and godlike Rhadamanthus; or for Semele mother of Dionysus, who brings men joy; or for Alcmene at Thebes, whose son was lion-hearted Heracles; or for Demeter of the lovely tresses; or for glorious Leto; or even for you yourself, as this love and sweet desire for you grips me now.’ (Book 14, trans. A. T. Murray)

Notice how when talking about most of them, he also mentions the children they bore to him but when Demeter and Leto are mentioned, he doesn't bring up their children at all despite them being some of the most accomplished kids of his. What's more, he takes Leto's name just before Hera's. I mean, this is an interpretation but it looks like not only did Zeus love Leto the most out of all his mistresses - giving her a place second to that of his wife, but also his love for her wasn't necessarily only because she gave him two amazing children.

Nonnus does something similar in the Dionysiaca (but this time Zeus is enamored with Persephone instead of Hera) but more notably, when Typhoeus attacks Olympus and Zeus is discouraged, Nike takes the form of Leto to encourage him and it's pretty telling of what Leto meant to Zeus.

One interesting similarity between Hera and Leto is that they both had a giant try to rape them. Porphyrion tried to violate Hera (Zeus inspired him to do this) and Tityus tried to violate Leto (upon Hera's order). Though both of them were killed, only Tityus got an eternal punishment in Tartarus of having his liver/heart eaten out by vultures so Zeus seems to have taken a greater offense at Tityus trying to assault Leto.

Again, I don't think Zeus would ever take anyone other than Hera as his permanent wife - she is irreplaceable to him. There's an entire myth about Hera leaving him and Zeus winning her back. Their relationship is obviously complex and involves all kinds of emotions including love and hate. But Leto is continually dear to him as well and that's something Hera can't do much about.

I think on this fine Saturday afternoon it's a good opportunity to take a breather and remember that there are really no ethical paparazzi pictures. Every single one is inherently exploitative.

Just because photos were taken on a movie set, when someone is 'working,' does not make the practice any less invasive and creepy. Imagine just going about your day, doing your job and having some weirdo snapping pictures of you to sell without your consent for others to endlessly repost online.

There are thousands of pictures of your favourite actor online already. Plenty taken with his knowledge and consent. I'd really like to see more of them on my dash, rather than the creeper shots.

And don't get me started how disseminating these pictures directly leads to people going to said sets. What starts off as admiring how good someone looks has real world implications.

No, hanging around a movie set and disrupting people doing their jobs is not harmless fun or a way to show your appreciation.

Don't tell me that it's okay to take your online admiration for someone offline. You may admire him but he does not, and will never, personally know you. He will never be your friend/boyfriend/daddy. He is a stranger.

The only way meeting your favourite actor is going to happen is at a convention or maaaaaybe a movie premiere if you're incredibly fortunate. You know, places they appear specifically to meet fans (or not in the case of premieres, where the purpose is to promote a movie. Which is also completely understandable if actors don't stop. You are not owed an interaction).

Of course, you cannot help it if you randomly run into someone you admire in the wild. Even then, consider that they probably won't be all too thrilled to be approached in public by a complete stranger. It's up to you to gauge the situation, but remember there is a person at the heart of all of this.

Boundaries and respect are a kindness which deserves to be extended to each and every human being regardless of their looks/talent/fame/wealth.

Fandoms blur those lines a little too often for my liking and I think just scrutinising what you're interacting with, or what behaviour you could be possibly falling down that slippery slope towards is nice to do every once in a while.

I mean no malice with this post and it is not directed at anyone in particular. It's something I cannot help but feel strongly about because I've seen this destructive cycle time and again in fandoms over the years. The humanity switch... Something that started off as a threat, a terrible thing, that became a cop out for instant forgiveness. But, I reckon, that with some minor head canons we can have fun with it.

We know really it does by doesn't exist, and every time a character has a no-humanity arc, it's always wildly different. I think saying it's a no emotions switch is ill described, because one we know for fact that these characters have emotions. I just think that when the humanity is turned off, it's the monster in control. Vampires are interesting, because they start off as human and then become. But they aren't human. They have different needs and different emotions, they function differently, and experience the world differently. It's not as cut and dry as a human who is stronger, faster, more emotional, and drinks blood too! It's a creature that was made to be better than the wolves. A creature that was meant to not only defeat a werewolf, and to protect from death again, but a creature, that was designed by both Esther and Mikael, as a pursuit for revenge, for bloodshed. Remember Mikael had imput, he was just as much an architect, and he was a violent man, whose greatest pride was that he was a warrior, and that he was strong. A vampire was made for revenge and for bloodshed. They are made for war. And so there are two sides, the side meant to protect child, to give strength, to have life, to hold on to beauty, and yet... they are also weapons. A child was fed on by wolves, so the children now must feed on the wolves children. On the enemy. And we knew this, that a vampire has a bloodlust not merely a blood thirst. It's a creature that grabs pleasure in the kill, in the hunt, and gets pleasure in battle. It's something that was inspired by a wolf, but made to be more. And so the humanity switch doesn't exist, because young vampires are trying to be both human and vampire. They are clinging to whom they were, and not just the enhanced version. The vampire enhances everything. Love, anger, despair and guilt. It enhances a person. So with the switch on, a vampire is trying to mild themselves out, and to resist the urges, which is fair, and turning it off is probably the enhanced version of turning off panic and a protective way to block out weakness. It's the the switch to become a weapon. So a new vampire isn't turning it off, they are just indulging the monster. They haven't yet merged the monster and their old selves into one. They can't bare to see the human version of themself overlap with the vampire self and become whole, so they keep a wall there. The weak side vs the weapon side. But older vampires, they are both. They have accepted what they are, and who they have become. There is no divide, because they have existed so long like this, that it's just a blur. And that is why, even when vampires have their no-humanity arcs they so different, and not emotionless, and still have lines they will not cross. Because they aren't amoral, they aren't without emotion, they are just indulging the other side of the coin, the person they still are, but just with swords drawn, out of the hilt they call humanity. That's just the weapon version of them, going numb, to fight a war. be that a war of grief, or paranoia, or anger. A vampire that can still turn it off, is a vampire who has yet become fully a vampire. And refuses to believe they will do monstrous things for human reasons. But every time they do turn it off, they can't go fully back, no matter how hard they try, they are little bit more vampire than they were before.

hey it’s obviously not my business telling you how to live your life but i’m gonna suggest smth to u. as u mentioned BSL recently i’m gonna assume u live in the uk. i do too. i was on a two year wait list to get my autism diagnosis. i finally have it and it is a massive relief. i don’t know what the resources are like where you live, but if you can i would seriously recommend doing the preliminary screening thingies and getting put on a waitlist. being able to have actual medical justification for why i am Like This has made a big difference for me and i imagine it would be helpful for you too. sorry, im sure this stuff has like occurred to you before but yeah i just wanted to reach out

i actually did have a free autism assessment a while back, courtesy of my uni's support service, but it was... kind of a mess? everything was super rushed, they weren't clear on what was required, and the assessment mostly consisted of things like bringing out a picture of a cartoon smiley face and asking what emotion it was feeling, or getting me to read a kid's picture book and describe what was happening on each page. the assessor also spoke to me as if i was about four years old, which i didn't much appreciate as an adult human midway through a master's degree. in the end, she told me she thought it was more likely to be severe anxiety, and that i couldn't be autistic because i was "creative" and "found it easy to make friends". i found the whole thing very off-putting, which is partly why i have not tried to seek a diagnosis since.

nonetheless, thank you for the suggestion - i might look into it and see if i can get anywhere. i'm glad it helped you! i think it would help me too - i've just been put off by the long waitlists, not knowing exactly how to start the process, and the possibility that i might wait two years only to get the same result (not autistic, just weird).
