One of my coworkers calls her dissertation her “dissy” and I can’t stop wondering if making “Dissy Hypno” would hit with a specific brand of doctoral student.

Apologies for this kinda stupid ask but I've gotta ask someone about it and since you are a certified magnus person you are the best choice.
Ive seen people on this site mention that tfp magnus has a lisp and while I can sorta hear it, I am in no means an expert on it and could just be hearing him wrong. I haven't heard of anyone actually talking about the possible lisp so I feel as if I'm losing my mind. Sorry again for this dumb ask but I just gotta know.
Naww don't apologize homie. I love weird asks!!
I can definitely hear it too. I noticed it awhile ago, especially in that scene in S3 EP 4 "Rebellion" where him and the rest of the Autobots are convened in the Harbinger before launching their attack on Darkmount. It's apparent when he gives his speech, in lines such as "we require a means of thinning the Decepticon ranks."
Though I can't find anything online that mentions if Michael Ironside himself has a lisp. Maybe it's just a feature of his voice acting style, or that was an intentional choice for Ultra Magnus' voice.
He also tends to speak quickly often, so maybe it's just him kinda mashing his words together or having trouble getting all of his words out at once, since he's probably thinking a million miles a minute. Considering the context of him having just landed on Earth, having to quickly absorb and process all the information of what has happened to team prime all at once, get all the bots together, fight off cons, and form a plan that won't get them killed in a timecrunch, he likely IS experiencing racing or rapid thoughts. And trying to organize all of that to have to speak it out loud can get messed up sometimes.
I do myself do that irl, especially since I have ADHD and speech processing go brrr. I have trouble speaking clearly sometimes, and I sometimes stutter a little or blend words together since I speak fast.
Since so many people (including myself) see Magnus as Autistic, that might also just be a feature of his speech and the producers of TFP like knew that and included it? Maybe?? Maybe I'm reaching??
However, I wholeheartedly believe Maggy does have a little lisp. Why not. He's so sexy for that.

A deep frustration I felt towards the original Authority run pertains to the complete lack of empathy towards the Doctor and his substance abuse.
I find a meta-contextual analysis of the Authority (and Wildstorm as a whole) so fascinating because these comics are time capsules. Consequently, Wildstorm comics provide insight to the American cultural zeitgeist of the late 90s and early 00s.
I think a lot my my personal gripes with the N52 and all subsequent renditions of WS is how DC's removes the context in which these characters are created in. I understand the desire to modernize with N52, but now, with 24 years of of hindsight, a piece of Wildstorm media that acknowledges the flaws, prejudices, and triumphs of its predecessor can be so, so poignant.

I had a dream last night, or early this morning, that I was reading this scholarly book about how to write a dissertation. I have no idea why. But the book kept having... utmv references? Like, it would tell you how to do something and then use utmv characters to demonstrate
I got to one point where it referenced this supposed "famed" fight of Error and Ink. They went to a wild west au and Error supposedly "braved the chacoa in the canyons."
What is chacoa?? And why did Error have to "brave" it??? I don't know, man, but that is an exact quote that I remember
Anyway. I was reading, trying to discover more about this famed fight because it sounded low key interesting. Then, the book mentioned that Ink ran into… Coshuss. It was the au's variant of Cross. Imagine a very disgruntled bounty hunter cowboy and that was him. Getting angrier and angrier because it was apparently a source of comedy that Ink was having difficulty saying his name right
All I could think was, "Yeah, same, Ink." I had no idea how to pronounce that name
Well, the librarian who was in the room with her daughter with me, the daughter eventually had to run out of the room to get something. The librarian somehow knew what part I was at and said, "You know, you can admit what you thought his name was."
I didn't know what she meant. I guess she thought it was supposed to look like a bad word?? Dream version of me thought that too since I went, "Nah, I think it looks like... Koksue. Kosueh. Koshu."
Cue me badly trying to pronounce this poor man's name. Finally, I settled on one name I pronounced consistently, "Koshussss." Basically, "Koshu" with an awkward, annoying "s" sound dragged out at the end
The librarian woman started busting a gut. I laughed along too, even though I didn't really know what was so funny. Sure, I meant my pronunciation to be kinda funny, but not that funny
I then looked at the book and that was when I saw the correct pronunciation written out in parentheses
It was supposed to be pronounced CrossCross
I literally thought that was so funny, that I snorted so hard from laughing in my dream, I woke myself up.
A part of me is sad. I kinda really do wish there was a "How to Write Your Dissertation 101" book out there with utmv references I should know, but apparently don't

Languages which probably should get their own alphabet (or just use another one that suits them better) but refuse to and end up very very funky. Yes or no?
oh buddy you are talking to someone who has spent 9 years wading through the written records of a language that doesn't quite fit right with the script it borrowed. i can appreciate the creativity but today i'm ready to burn it down.

It was Danny! All grown up! But still a baby. *ruffles his hair*
Of course Graham Rogers knocked it out of the park and made me care about his one-ep-guest-role character.
I shed literal tears for him and his S/O's story. *sniffles*
I like Max and Tristan back to being friendly, Max complimenting Tristan for a good treatment plan and Tristan reassuring Max he did all he could for his patient. That's nice.
Yet again I'm reminded going to the tags (except for pretties) does no good, because, uh, some takes. Not even gonna address them because I lack the energy.
(Do (USA) kids these days really see everything from romantic angle? Because where I see funny banter, they complain of flirting? Is it purity culture effect? *shrugs*)
I'm assuming no one is going to have a baby on a cruise ship (unless they completely abandon reality, which would also be fine with me), because then at least one character would have to leave (at least temporarily) and we don't want that. But why complain that both Tristan and Max are going around saying they will be a father - we want that and they could absolutely both be fathers (reality aside) no matter the parentage, as Avery pointed out.

I am defending my doctorate in 2 weeks! I am so thankful to be so close to the finish line.
After the defense of my dissertation, I'll be submitting my dissertation to the library about 2 weeks later and then graduating in May!
I was also asked to go to one last conference so in May I will be presenting my work.
Then I will be working as a post doctorate for about two months while I look for work elsewhere where the goal will be to write and submit my final two journal articles and also continue with assisting in external project work.
And then on to a new job, new area, no school!!!!
Woooh!

so for the last four years, my pi has been complaining about a set of figures that she thinks are a bad representation of the data i'm trying to present. i can't provide a picture because it's unpublished data, but it looks kind of like this but silver and with little colored squiggles coming out of it.
Tumblr media
she doesn't like the squiggles. she wants them to be balls instead.
and for the last four years, every time she's brought it up, i've told her "i don't know how to do that" and she's either told me to look it up in our past group papers, none of which contained anything like what she wanted, or passed me off to one of my other group members, none of whom knew what it was that our pi wanted or how to do that. so the figures haven't gotten done.
a couple weeks ago, she got huffy about them again (and of course only "remembered" that she'd asked for them in the past, not that i don't know how to do them). once again, i told her i didn't know how to do them, and then she bitched me out about not telling her that i didn't know how to do them which whatever, i'm used to her selective memory at this point. so after bitching me out, she passed me off to another group member yet again to teach me how to do them. turns out, once i described them, that this group member didn't know how to do them either but, unlike any of the others, she was willing to help me figure it out.
so, in sequence, here's what we discovered: 1. none of the programs that our pi has told me could do the balls over the last four years are actually capable of doing the balls. 2. none of the papers that our pi has told me to refer back to that were supposedly published by our group that would have examples of what she was looking for were published until three months ago so unless she sent me the drafts (and she hadn't) i was never going to know what they looked like. 3. the only software that is capable of doing the balls isn't compatible with a mac system (the only computers in the lab). in fact, it only runs on a linux system, which i could probably learn if i had more time but my dissertation needs to be sent off to my committee in two days. 4. it is possible to manually draw circles on the protein (it's just time consuming) but every paper that our pi has published using the actual software has had, at max, 7 balls on the protein. 5. i would need between 80-175 balls on my protein. look at that picture. imagine 175 circles on it. imagine how crowded that would be.
so after attempting to manually draw circles on the protein and getting through about 5 of them, we both realized that our pi was going to absolutely hate the representation and make me redo it anyway.
and that's where this saga concludes: after four years of listening to my pi complain about this figure, i've decided that fuck it, i'm not doing that, i'm submitting my dissertation as is, and she can get over it.
it's not like she's read my dissertation anyway.

It's actually very funny that 13 could barely stand Sarah in Eve of the Daleks considering that Sarah was the Yaz metaphor in this situation.
And also funny that Yaz found the Doctor metaphor, Nick, kinda creepy.
It says something that Yaz appeared to like Sarah and 13 likes Nick.
