Northern Crater Illusion (Tifa version)
I know people's been saying something about this part in like forever especially in the OG but I finally get the courage and spite to write my own take. That's what I get staying on twitter I guess.
(You best believe I will post this there but on concentrated amount - character limit is only the blue checkmark's friend on that island.)
Most specifically I want to have a closer look on how Sephiroth pulled his attack using this *truth* that he and Tifa share and how this translates to Tifa's own personal conflict with Sephiroth himself.
Yeah, got so tired in that Sephiroth hates Tifa because of her interference to his plans for Cloud and the only one who can fix him takes.
No, fam. That's what the Rebirth seem to imply to y'all but Sephiroth already hates Tifa in OG separate from Cloud. (Or does he?). Heck, him leaving his Masamune beside her father's corpse is a literal taunt daring her to go after him and use his weapon to inflict damage to his person. This is before Cloud made himself known by stabbing him due to his own grief by the way.
Even with all this, we see he doesn't really seem to care to remember the name of who killed him until Cloud had to point it out in Junon.
CLOUD had to point it out. His KILLER has to tell him his name just to make him remember.
Tifa though?

Getting talked to so intimately with faux kindness - the very same treatment he now shows Cloud in Rebirth, imagine that.
Now let's also remember that this is the OG and therefore any trappings of Rebirth's new plot doesn't exist here because this is the beginning of it all.
Anyway, I revisited this scene because of an itch urging me (it's the spite) and a thought suddenly occurred to me.
If we remove Cloud's side and trappings in that part of the illusion (basically all things Cloud) and look at this from Tifa's perspective as a standalone thing for her own character, it paints a very clear picture of Sephiroth attacking her.
People always miss this because Cloud once again overshadowed Tifa's own trauma and unresolved conflict with Sephiroth as the one more openly attacked in this scene.
Let's look at Sephiroth's lines:

The lie has been set. Obviously Tifa won't let this unanswered if she could help it. So this is her response:

With Sephiroth's response to this being the first images I posted above.
It's been made clear how extremely pressured Tifa was at this scene especially when Cloud reveals he hinges all his faith in her while suffering her own trauma again AND attacked by their enemy.
It wasn't just Cloud Sephiroth gaslighted in this scene.
That's what this part is trying to show us and regardless of who gets attacked here the outcome is the same: Cloud is just an illusion created by Jenova using memories of people, most especially Tifa.
Sephiroth doesn't hide his attacks to her at all and it astounds me how everyone who played this game back then believed only Cloud was dealt a great mental blow. (Most of y'all are kiddies I guess that also tracks.)
Tifa actually had it much worse!
She was so overwhelmed from it all she accidentally made the wrong move of answering Cloud in the negative:

When I said she's under tremendous pressure it isn't just because of reliving her trauma and carrying the burden of Cloud's mental state alongside her own increasingly damaged psych.
It is the fact that Cloud wasn't the only one relying on her affirmation - or lack thereof - to validate which one was speaking the "truth". Sephiroth was also using her to confirm his claims and he knew very well he's got the upper hand to the "truth" she has known, all the while gaslighting her that it IS the only truth. There's even a picture to prove it!

This is not the picture but this is also that picture.
Of course, Sephiroth made sure to include her into the story. She's not part of it simply because she was there but because according to his statement..... her memories are part of Jenova's knowledge used to make *Cloud* - the failed clone.
The Cloud who by Seph's own words is just a construct of Hojo after Nibelheim's burning. A clean slate born from collective memories thanks to Jenova.
The sheer implications behind these statements are our clue to the underlying conflict that exist between Tifa and Sephiroth outside of Cloud. That the hatred is not a one-sided thing, and just because it isn't readily understood why it exist doesn't mean it isn't present.
Sephiroth drives the knife further to twist the mental wounds even more. Tifa being the one to carry the most burden of all:

Now here's a pretty interesting thought: a girl who is just plain ordinary is important enough to have Jenova's effort in molding a clone after her own desires - her childhood friend. Sephiroth is basically admitting he's got one special clone just for her. (He even gave her one in Remake but that's a slightly different story).
Ignoring the fact that Cloud is not a construct it still makes you wonder: why use her for that lie? Why her in particular?
(We are using Tifa as our center focus for this so I'm going to exclude the "she's Cloud's childhood friend reasoning. This is not about him.)
Then it can be answered if you look at it as his own way of tormenting Tifa - using a clone imbued with her memories.
A mutual on twit said that maybe because she's the one who the group trusts the most, however more than half the party wasn't there yet when *Cloud* (who Sephiroth consistently claims is just his clone) appears in front of her on that bench.
AVALANCHE as it was at that point doesn't have anyone else with a connection to Cloud.
So it goes to show she is the target of said clone's manifestation.
That is, if we believe the lie Sephiroth weaved and take it as he said it at face value, which definitely is what his claim would be to Tifa who can't refute it, especially because apparently *Cloud* really did show signs of "clone behavior" when they first met but the tech limit back then doesn't show us how it should be like to its fullest extent.
(As someone points out here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/hartofhearts.tumblr.com/post/665525778591694848/the-implications-of-tifas-familiarity-with-marco/amp) My phone isn't cooperating 😭
How could she when his "truth" matches exactly everything she knew five years ago? How could she say he's wrong when Cloud's behavior was suspect when they met for the first time in years after Nibelheim (and for her part after he left for SOLDIER)?
She tried refuting but it's clear she has her own doubts about him as well, as she couldn't continuously defend Cloud from Sephiroth's persistent claim about his current identity.
By gaslighting Cloud he doesn't exist, he also gaslights Tifa into thinking her real childhood friend is gone and it's all just in her head now.
Sephiroth KNEW so well she wanted to see Cloud five years ago but didn't see him and use that to his own advantage. It's why this is so effective a gaslight to both.
As far as Tifa knew, the last time she saw Cloud was when he left to join Soldier. This Cloud's fate is unknown to her, maybe he died or maybe he forgot about her and all such insecurities Sephiroth could use with that solidify his claims that he was all " Aw, poor Tifa. Waiting for someone who never came. Here, Jenova's made you a clone with your memories of that boy to play with you."
That's what it looks like if we only see this scene through Tifa's eyes.
Again, taunting her in the same vein as when he first did leaving Masamune besides her father's body.
Why would he do so if Tifa didn't caught his attention in the first place?
Sephiroth is clearly playing around with her and toys with her emotions just as clearly as he attacked Cloud.
He just couldn't break her like he could him no matter how hard he tried because Tifa's mental fortitude is so strong.
#tifa lockhart#sephiroth#ff7#cloud strife#writing this post made me realize something about sephiroth and how he views tifa in og#and it somehow pulled me even further into the ship#doesn't help that it fits so well with his actions to her in og#sephti

One thing I love about Undoing Fate is that, while you give us the batfam's perspective about the situation, it shows us that the mc isn't a saint in this whole conflict either. She has flaws, made mistakes, and it's so refreshing. And we can clearly emphatize with the batfam more, understand their actions but STILL see it's their fault.
I love you gave us their pov that they're not bad people on purpose, they don't fuck up consciously, but it's still so painfully their fault that we can understand them but not justify them.
Barbara is a prime example. Yeah, she had problems too. She had responsabilities, a decision to make with Gotham's best interests on her shoulders, but the way she made that decision was so fucking wrong. She didn't choose Steph because it was the best decision for the city, but rather the easiest for herself. She admits to pick her over MC because she recquired more patience and care that Barbara was willing to give. That's pretty fucked up, and I really hope Batsis doesn't forgive her quickly.
Dick is another example. I almost felt sorry for him, but then I remember batsis was a CHILD grieving too and going through a very hard time and he was the ADULT. Granted he was stressed out too, but he could've handled that better. And then we see him constantly prioritise everything else over her as he himself says that's the reason he can't bond with her properly. Even though, with his reasoning, you can understand his motives, he's still in the WRONG here. There were moments he could've chosen her at least for once, and didn't.
I'm not getting into a debate about Damian because he was a child too. Still is. His behaviour should be handled by the adults in charge of him. And he's clearly making progress, better than all of them. The youngest of the family is the one making the right decisions first.
From what I've seen, Steph is the only one who really can't be blamed for her situation. In here, it was more batsis's fault than anything. Steph didn't really ask for the mantle, it was handled over to her. She just adapted and accepted what was given to her by the others, not knowing what it meant for batsis because she didn't know her as well. This fell on the batfam's responsability, handling this in a way it wouldn't hurt batsis so much, and they failed. And Steph paid the price of Batsis's wounded feelings. Also, i love she's seemingly the only one who saw Batsis's efforts and recognised her for it.
And in general, Batsis's flaws and "inadequacy" for being a vigilante is also their fault. They should've helped her, trained her, guide her, instead they inmediately concluded she wasn't fit for this and didn't lift a finger, and then act surprised she wasn't that good nor improved. Ofc she doesn't, idiots, she has NO ONE helping her. Not like you help each other, or helped Damian. It's frankly a miracle she didn't die sooner in the og timeline.
sorry for the rant i just really needed to get it out lmao
@seleneprince
woww
i literally couldn’t have said it any better. i think you captured every single aspect of the characterisation i have for barbara, dick and batsis
ty for your analysis 🫶🫶

A Rant about My Metis
A song that i relate a lot to Metis es "Waiting on a Miracle" from Encanto, both on a character and meta level.
Firstly, as a character, my Metis is quite special. She's supposed to be the daughter of two Oceanic titans, she should be living in the Ocean inside a pretty castle under the sea! What the hell is she doing living in Crete?
Well, my Metis doesn't knows who are her actual folks! She was found by the forest nymphs of Crete island and raised by them as a baby. But she being an Oceanic nymph (plus the straight up daughter of not one but two Titans) and the rest of her family being Forest nymphs, she quickly noticed all the differences.
I draw her big and muscular for a reason (Because muscular women are beautiful sksksks) but is also because she doesn't fit in that "pretty, delicate, femenine and elegant" view of most nymphs.
And she shouldn't! Again, she's daughter of two titans, of course she's a big girl! (And all Oceanids are similar in that they are a bigger kind of nymph in my story, not just Metis) But she doesn't know that!
So it leaves her feeling a bit like an ugly duckling. Specially because most people are used to the image of a regular forest Nymph. She feel a bit like an outsider to her family, and sometimes an outsider to the rest of the Big 6, except Zeus.
Zeus is the only person who's not one member of her adopted family that ever compliments her and that's why she flusters so easily around him.
I go back to the song now, in "Waiting for a Miracle" the song is about Mirabel asking for someone to notice her, to think of her a special and all the things she would be willing to do just for someone to tell her that she DOES fit in.
And my Metis surely has done a LOT of batshit crazy things for the one boy that treats her as she was the most beautiful nymph that has ever touched the earth.
Crazy batshit stuff like, making fricking Cronus vomit, helping Zeus with a whole ass war, helping all of the other Big 6 in said war, and in general she loves to help Zeus' with all of his shenanigans.

She is head-over heels for that man. In her eyes, Zeus is that "Miracle". Her best friend, companion, and husband.
youtube
Now, on the more "Meta" level...
Metis is quite the character in mitology. Most people that do re-tellings don't bother to include her in any way.
Or if they do, they do so as like a quick mention of "Oh, this was Zeus' first wife i guess" and then don't mention more about it. As if being "Zeus #1 wife that he ate" was her whole personality
I understand, tho. Metis is a very obscure character. And has a very quick role in mithology.
Yet, that role is also, like. THE MUST FRIGGING IMPORTANT ROLE.
Like, dude, Zeus wouldn't had been able to start the whole ass war if Metis hadn't helped him free his siblings! Nothing would had happened!
And she's not even canonically dead, she literally lives inside Zeus' brain. She's literally the voice of reason inside his head telling him what to do, helping him decide what would be the best course of action in a situation.
Zeus is wise, because Metis lives rent-free in his head lol
A misconception is that Zeus ate Metis the same way Cronus did the Big 5, but he didn't. He rather "absorbed her". Where Cronus tried to destroy his sons, Zeus wanted to keep a piece of wife always within him. (It doesn't make it any-better, but the fact that he could just eat Metis and call it a day but he choose to specifically not do that and instead did something slightly more merciful talks a lot of how much he loved her, me thinks).
The man was worried about the prophecy, for sure! But you cannot tell me he didn't care!
Yet, Metis is always forgotten in must stories. Again, i get why
I just wish it wasn't like that lol. She is goddess of wisdom, the OG goddess of wisdom. She has potential for a character if we let her have one!
Another Metis enjoyer (@/firinnie) pointed out that Metis was the only wife Zeus' was FORCED to get rid off.
So to me, at the very least, shows me that Zeus really loved her, y'know?
And once again, in a Meta level, Metis is just waiting for someone to notice her overall.
That's all, thank you for coming to my rant xd

This might sound like incoherent rambling, but I feel the need to vent:
Some years ago I had a very unpleasant experience with a religious right wing nut. It started when I saw his post which compared the mermaid from H.C. Andersen's original story with Disney's Ariel. He claimed that despite many criticizing Ariel for being "a selfish brat who got away with everything" he claims that the original mermaid frm H.C. Andersen's story fits the description far more in his opinion.
He argues that because Ariel was manipulated by Ursula and her minions to make the deal, as well as suffering from an unaccepting father she is far more sympathetic while the original mermaid was not influenced by outside factors, but was "only" suffering from an existencial crisis of learning that the only way for a mermaid to gain an afterlife is to get a human to fall in love with her.
He says that Ariel did make up for her actions by "making up her mess" by help take down Ursula while the original mermaid left her family grieving, and even might have caused her grandmother to die of heartbreak.
Finally, the OP claims that the original mermaid got her goal of being able to earn a soul, something he thinks is undeserved because of the grief she put her family through, and because she supposedly committed suicide by jumping off a boat that would in his eyes "automatically damn her to hell" (in his conservative christian viewpoint).
His opinions do upset me because they seem really skewered. It feels stupid to care so much about someones opinion on fiction, but they do bother me a lot, and still do now, especially his take that the OG mermaid "forced her sisters to get Chemotherapy" because in Andersen's story, the mermaid's sisters try to save her by exchanging their hair for a knife to the Sea-Witch. This is utterly bizarre.
To deal with my distress I've turned to creating and sharing my fictional stories, and I've created a character in response to the right-wing nut, designed specifically to piss him off.
She's a fan character for the game "Vampire Therapist".
Background: Vampire Therapist is a visual novel where you play as Sam Walls, a vampire who became a therapist to help other vampires process their emotional baggage and deal with their mental distortions.
It was not only funny and imaginative but provided me with a perfect vessel to process my emotional baggage and indulge my historical nerd side at once.
So onto my character: she was born during the late Roman empire to parents who were early Christians. She was a rebellious teenager who found her home life to be dull and restrictive, and defied her parent's authority by attending pagan festivals, and it was during one particularly wild celebration where she met her "Bloodfather", an ancient vampire who acted as the leader of a mystery cult in the guise of the god Dionysos, and they became lovers.
Her parents became worried and after finding out about their daughter's lover the father tried to kill him, but was mercilessly slaughtered in turn.
Since then she has continued her hedonistic lifestyle with little care in the world. Deep inside she does feel some guilt for indirectly causing her parent's death, yet it bothers her little, or at least she doesn't let it show.
Her quirk is a compulsive need to rebel against authority and shock conservative religious communities. She has given herself the nickname "Blasphemia".
What I want to do is to vent my frustrations from interacting with that right wing nut by creating a story about a character who did everything he accused Andersen's mermaid of, but still receives compassion and understanding to spite him.

Ep. 14 "Flash Strike" Review
Wow this is way late. First off, I loved the animation and it looked genuinely real at times. TBB is to date the best looking animated show (not counting the "Tales" shorts). Those jungle shots were stunning. And the music! The music in the beginning was epic and it got my heart racing.
Spoilers below just in case
Rampart is just the gift that keeps on giving. Seriously, what was that scream? I was dying laughing 😂. He once again provides the comedy in these dire hours. However, his conversation with Crosshair was intense. I've already covered it, but basically: Rampart doesn't understand how some people can change. And ofc he was the one to mess everything up. Classic Rampart. Also, please Cross, you don't have to prove anything to Rampart. I get you're concerned that the man vanished, but the loser can take care of himself.
I did love watching the brothers fight side by side as usual. When Wrecker got thrown by the dryax, my heart melted when Cross and Hunter immediately went over to help him up. Also, y'all notice that the slice went all the way to Wrecker's skin? That was chilling. I hope Wrecker will be ok. I did love Crosshair's convo with Wrecker. Yes, he's scared and internally having several mental breakdowns, but he's doing it for Omega. He loves her more than anything. When he says he "owes her," it's his way of telling Wrecker that. Cross has never been one to be openly emotional about things. His actions show where his heart truly lies.
Omega was incredible this episode. Her "they found me... my brothers" just hit the spot. She knows that they will always come for her and will fight through hell and back for her. That's the level of love and trust she has with them. Also shoutout for her leadership skills and sneaking skills. Omega has grown so much and the impact of her brothers on her is so noticeable. You know the moment she sees the Zillo, she's got a plan cooking.
Hemlock isn't an idiot? Villain being competent? Well, that's both satisfying and scary.
ECHO!!!! Sweet Echo back at it, serving us with peak Arc Trooper content. Seriously, I love him so much! I also love how he now looks like Fives and the rest of his OG squad. The last Domino is carrying the banner with pride (he's fine relax 🙃). His convo with Emerie was golden. He's come so far since reciting the reg handbook back to his brothers word-by-word. There is so much meaning behind Echo telling Emerie that following orders blindly isn't the right thing to do. It might be Emerie's job, but it's putting the lives of others at stake. It's wrong. And having it be Echo who tells her that is so important. Crosshair fits better as Rampart's narrative foil due to the imperial past and prison sessions. But Echo being Emerie's narrative foil is incredible. Echo is such a beautiful person inside and out. He better make it out alive.
Anyways, I can't wait to cry with y'all on Wednesday. See you then!

ROUND 1A, MATCH 1 OUT OF 16!

*Includes the original 1950 animated film, the 2002 sequel Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, and the 2007 sequel Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Animated:
she is very iconic, she is super kind and has a beautiful dress
Submitting specifically because Cinderella III: A Twist in Time has lived rent-free in my head ever since I was a small child.
This Cinderella is most young (western) peoples introduction to this very story. Cinderella is so hopeful and by getting one small magical adventure, her whole life changes for the better. She is skilled and inspires such loyalty with her kindness that it’s hard to dislike her for any reason she gives. I’ve always been jealous of her ball hairdo too.
Walt Disney put all he had into this movie. And his favorite animation was the dress transformation scene. There’s a reason she is often front and center on the Princess group promotions.
she is the original. to me. probably the first exposure to cinderella for a solid chunk of people alive & on tumblr today. she is just a perfect encapsulation of everything that cinderella is, even if she's become warped in the public consciousness. also i'm pretty sure she's the reason why the glass slippers are so predominant in more recent retellings bc she is simply so iconic. 100/10 no notes 💜
She's maybe not the OG OG but she was one of the first animated Disney princesses and strangely enough it doesn't stop her from having an amazing personality. She's literally a slave but keeps being a nice person, forgiving and always doing her best. And the sequels absolutely didn't ruin her character. She's a sweet girl who tries to fit in but who's loyal to the person she is and who tries to change things always in a cute and sweet way to show people it's not that hard. She literally forgave Anastasia and tried to help her after all she did to her (the scene where the step-sisters destroy her dress still is terrifying to me)... she's awesome and deserves more recognition honestly...
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) No she is not the same as the original Cinderella of 1950. This girl’s biggest chance was unfairly snatched away from her. When the Prince was brainwashed she was enough to get him to double take. She was so Right that their connection over powered magic. And she had to be rescued from a ship. And was almost crushed within a pumpkin! And finally had to expose another imposter, who turned out to be just another victim of Lady Trameine. This Cinderella fought harder for her love because she knew what True Love was like and she still was able to forgive those who asked for it.
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) Listen yes it's the same Cinderella from 1950 but she has an arc in this one! It's Disney's greatest film!!
Live-Action Remake:
Of all the live action remakes of the past decade this one is my favorite. Somehow it keeps the essence of the 1950 story but makes it today relevant. Ella really does live her life by having courage and being kind. The mice and birds might not speak but she (and we) still understand. She didn’t want to go to the ball for any grand reason besides being able to see a friend. That blue dress was so beautiful! And the butterflies! Ella and Kit matched so well together the Princess, King, and Captain of the Guard all Knew. And that wedding dress!
Plus Ella forgave her stepfamily. That is something that take such great strength of character and kindness of heart.
Tbh I've never seen the movie but I was a young impressionable child (7 years old) when it came out and. There was an ad in a paper or something and I thought she was really pretty so I cut out and hung it on the wall. It stayed up for. Many years. This was likely the first sign that I was gay.

Hey! Small question, so I saw the OG art of Derek and other bits of his personality and I really like how he is out of Mouthwashing.
Would it be ok to request an AU where he is your actual OC and maybe pair him up with Daisuke?
OMG YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!
Thank you for checking the other art of my boy! Yes! He tries to look tough on the outside despite he is so insecure lmao, it doesn't help how romantic he is, especially with fiction when it comes to angels and wanting "a passionate love" like that (Even tho he is so afraid of said love killing him lol) oh, but yeah, he'll be human here too! Not an angel!
Regarding that AU, sure thing! Omg Imma ramble a bit, sorry I'm a bit busy with work but will surely make some art for this later!!! If its OG!Derek then omg, those two would be so sweet!! Playboy x Bookworm!!! <3 <3 <3
Of course every AU needs a name so "SweetenerAU" 'cause goosh I have ideas with this.
Since Derek's personality isn't modified to fit the darker theme of Mouthwashing like in NyanAU, things would be a bit different on alts
He'll still be a Nursing Assistant, I believe that Daisuke must be around 23-24 yo, which still makes Derek the youngest member of the Tulpar since he is 22 lol.
Relationships:
Curly: Respects the Captain and his authority, his gentle demeanor reminds him of his dad, so Derek tries to fullfill his duties for a bit of praise
Jimmy: At first he liked him for his looks, but eventually began to see him the same way he sees one of his cousins, he tends to fail for Jimmy's insults and argues back
Swansea: While he knows the man doesn't treat him the best, Dee knows it must be because Swan is old-fashioned. He considers him a wizard, as he doesn't know a single thing about mechanic stuff, except to repair his own car on Earth.
Anya: He admires and respects his mentor, wishing he could be as determined as her on studies and discipline. He runs to her whenever his emotions (crybaby) get the best of him
Daisuke: They share a few hobbies in common, like videogames and drinking at parties. Tho, Derek keeps his barriers up mostly since he doesn't want to date a playboy
❀⊱┄🌺┄┄🍫┄┄┄┄┄🍫┄┄🌺┄⊰❀ 💜💗 ❀⊱┄🌺┄┄🍫┄┄┄┄┄🍫┄┄🌺┄⊰❀
I bet they start friendly, maybe Daisuke is a bit too much of a social butterfly for Derek. There are times that is just Daisuke yapping while Derek listens, and since my boy is a bookworm, he'll probably hide in the medbay from time to time just so he can study.
I can imagine that since he is not a "proper" nurse like Anya, he gets the harsh words instead for her, with Swansea, Curly and Jimmy not taking him seriously. Which leads to some bickering as Derek would try to "man up" and answer with something sarcastic or bark a comeback. This backfires at times and he is a crybaby so its Anya the one that has to step up for him and even make her complains to Curly, who yes, doesn't take much action either or excuses as friendly banter.
He gets along with Daisuke, who tries to help the blonde feel a bit better about himself. Game night is fun since both Derek and Anya are competitive, Derek pays extra attention during the sessions so there are times things get LOUD when he notices Daisuke is actually cheating and calls him out in the spot, with Anya joining the play-fight as well. They too convice the other to some trouble, like pulling pranks on the crew (sticky notes mostly) or trying to get some sweetener and hide it away. They try to not be suspicious about it.
The only person that knows Dee is intersex is Anya, of course, since she is the Head Nurse and knows how everyone's health is. She is the first one to notice that Daisuke was trying to flirt with Derek, who at first didn't register the approach, but once he was told by her, he began to actively try to reject the other's advances. Of course, Daisuke would prioritize their friendship over the evident crush he has on Derek, Swansea had to scold him about stop thinking with his lower half for a minute
Derek also worries that Daisuke is just being stubborn since he is aware he looks femenine and they are away from Earth, probably to just vent or being a friends with benefits situation, things Derek doesn't want. While he doesn't mind the talks about parties, the mentions of several girls and flings makes him doubt the other's seriousness. Daisuke is being 100% serious and even feels a bit under the weather whenever Derek ends up saying something a bit too hurtful while rejecting him.
❀⊱┄🌺┄┄🍫┄┄┄┄┄🍫┄┄🌺┄⊰❀ 💜💗 ❀⊱┄🌺┄┄🍫┄┄┄┄┄🍫┄┄🌺┄⊰❀
So there are two routes! The Good one and the Canon one (As always!)
Good route: As Derek is still in charge of Jimmy's psych evals, he slowly begins to get firmer and insist on the other to take it seriously (With the help of Anya who also put her foot down towards Curly). This ended in a venting match, but with positive outcomes, Jimmy was given some resources to cope with their situation about getting fired, deal with the isolation and even encourage him to do weightlifting with whatever they had available in the ship. Derek also encouraged him to do karaoke nights, even if it was embarrassing and there was no machine.
So, with one problem being maneagable. The trip is a bit more comfortable. Especially after Daisuke and Derek, with the help of Swansea, managed to hack the Screen at the Lounge, using Derek's dvd player the crew had a new source of entertainment, or well... they just had Supernatural to watch.
During these movie nights and gaming sessions, Daisuke and Derek began to get a bit closer, watching the show together also helped Daisuke understand why Derek rejected him so many times, he began to notice on how the other paid attention to the characters on the screen, what speech would water his eyes. When they reach the series's finale and the angel's confession plays, Daisuke blurts feeling that way towards Dee and that despite hating the idea of going on board, it was the best thing his mom forced him to do, while the rest put on the last episode, they remained sit, with Derek hugging Daisuke's arm.
They did not confirm to the other if they were dating, but the rest could tell they started to sit closer to each other. Curly has caught them holding hands. The truth being that neither wanted to rush things, as Derek wasn't comfortable with being too touchy at the moment.
When they return to Earth, both received the Title for their respective jobs, tho they were only available for Pony Express. But at least provided them with better chances to get scholarships or jobs in other companies.
Swansea had a goot talk with Daisuke's mother, starting first with all his complains about his intern, to later start congratulating him about all the stuff he has learned and how hardworking he is.
Anya and Derek keep in touch, tho Derek ended up not studying to become a nurse but decided to study to become an Elementary School teacher. His family invites Anya over for certain dates as thanks, she returns to her home with several tupperwares full of food.
Daisuke was more terrified at the idea of his mother rejecting Derek right in the spot, but she seemed ok, her only complain was that Derek was way too pale and needed to stay as much as possible under the sun. Derek's parents laughed it off, saying that would be difficult as Dee likes to be indoors even on Earth

Canon route: (Inspired by "Jueves" from La Oreja de Van Gogh)
After the crash, Anya and Derek had tried their best to keep Curly alive, trying to give him his meds and taking care of his exposed skin. Derek was not handling well the sight of his patient, that's when he learned he didn't have what it took to be a Nurse. Which began to affect his self steem even more.
Drinking mouthwash wasn't as bad for him, it was sweet and the alcohol did its job just fine. He and Daisuke would be sobbing near each other, from confessions about hating being there, missing their parents. Daisuke learns about how Derek misses his mom's blueberry pie, and how much he wished for his dad to save him, he too misses his parents, but he can't also feel resentment and anger against his mom, there were times where he tried to blame her for everything. Just to end up thinking that if he wasn't so stupid, had gotten a job or started studying something, he wouldn't be on the Tulpar... but that left him feeling worse about Derek being there alone, with only older people which 3 clearly didn't took him seriously.
When Anya locks herself in Medbay, they are both in a panic. Derek is a crying mess when Jimmy insists Daisuke to go in the vent, he tried to reassure him that he'll be back in a bit, but Derek was having none of it, calling him a liar while begging him to not die.
While Jimmy is waiting in the Utility room, Swansea still unconscious, Derek runs to MedBay and try to open the door with the axe he stole from Swansea. He success after he hears Daisuke screaming in the vent, pure brute strenght exhausted on those blows at the door. He helps him get out of there, dragging him as much as possible until Jimmy comes and helps him, its then when he noticed Anya's dead, worst, the crisis made him realize that Anya's belly was bigger, that's when he realizes. She didn't tell him about a certain something that happened to her, not like he could have helped her.
As Jimmy leaves Daisuke on the sleeping bag, Derek follows, quite out of it. His mind still processing what happened. Daisuke is in pain, groaning, the least Dee could do was to hold his hand, something breaking inside him when he realizes Daisuke murmured something, something that resembled an "I love you" as his eyes closed, the trauma and the wounds were fatal and didn't give chance for Derek to give a reply, nor for Jimmy to disinfect the wounds with Mouthwash.
Swansea is still unconscious through all this, when he wakes up, he sees Daisuke's dead body then, impaled to a wall, a rusty nail piercing Derek's stomach. Both kids are dead. Jimmy claiming it was Derek's idea to force Daisuke into the vent, because that stupid idiot was so worried about Anya that he wouldn't even think things properly. And that in the end, attempted to attack Jimmy as well.
Swansea didn't believe shit, and so the events of the game continue its ending.

In this AU, I've given Derek his family back lol. His parents Elatha and Vladimir, and his cousins Thomas & Andrew (Needs new art).
They are from Ireland, Derek has been living on his own for a while (Wherever that Pony Express is located)
Before Pony Express, he used to be a babysitter and did house-cleaning services.
When he and Daisuke had their first time, Daisuke made sure to make it extra especial. They've previously talked about Dee's body and that didn't change a thing. Dee is Dee <3
Daisuke moved to Derek's apartment, thinking they'll be alone. Thomas & Andy also live there as they moved for studies (They are 19 and 21)
He can't complain, Thomas is like a baby brother and its so funny to see Derek and Andy argue over anything
When the Tulpar crew gathered, Anya took him aside and gave him "the talk", he originally expected Derek's parents to threaten him about treating their kid nicely or he'll see and such, nope, it had to be Anya and God that was scary
Swansea made paella but didn't knew nor couldn't believe that Derek would ask to eat three more plates. It made him proud tho it worried him that in fact, the younger boy was starving himself at the Tulpar (Not really, Derek just has appetite when it comes to good food)
Curly and Jimmy have been Daisuke's hypemen when, while alone, Daisuke confided about buying a certain type of ring... <3

Hiiii bestie! Hope the week is starting nicely for you.
She has, and her not being stateside is so unfair ha! Lou, Im totally down with an invite to Spain tho, gracias ♥️
Def feel for Sellers not being healthy enough to put her best foot forward. Such unfortunate timing. But I guess I also expect teams to be well informed on her injury situation before the draft and evaluate/select accordingly?
No arguments from me on the MET looks that you like! 👏Now we move on to evaluating tunnel fits lol. On a "fashion" note, I love the Liberty's championship rings. Look awesome and have so many intricate details to appreciate.
Ok after the 1st weekend, heres my throwaway thoughts..stipulating theres only so much to take from week 1/ a small sample: NY def looks up to a title defense while still working some things out ofc (ya Tash). Signs are pretty positive for another successful season for Minny as well (wow Phee). Not gonna discount the idea of the Aces gelling eventually (Aja and Jackie look good) but solid team chemistry clearly not there on day one. Anticipate that ATL will settle into decent form as well, but dont feel like I have a great read out. Sparks and Valks gave meh 🙎♀️(kudos to Plums opening performance tho, and Hamby off to a solid start). Didnt quite expect the level of struggles seen with Dallas and Seattle. But its early days, and I cant bring myself to react strongly to a poor opening game by teams just in the draft lottery. Hopefully KK is keeping her parents spirits up in Texas ha. Interested to see how their matchup goes! Sun have me a little curious! Phx seems like theyll go exactly as their stars play game by game, depth kinda feels like its bound to be a concern. Im still irritated just thinking about the Chi/Indy game. 🤦♀️CC that foul then running was a punk ass move, and please step up w action for the good of this league. Mystics have been a pleasant surprise early on. But my sense is such a youthful bunch will be consistently inconsistent (also consider me unimpressed w Olsen, sorry). And please ntm on my beloved head case Kira 🤗
Thank you, thank you! Still wrapping my mind around just being accepted by schools, was so delighted to simply get in anywhere ha. It will be extremely bittersweet to leave working in college athletics, which has been a dream. But God help me, I want to practice law for the rest of my working life.
🚨Alright ending on an important note, Ive got a touch of ~OG tea content to share. Liz is so damn diplomatic in her media appearances! https://www.tumblr.com/preathuswnt/783281906813911040/i-really-am-hopeful-for-georgia-being-at-the-game?source=share
Laters!

Bestiiie hi <3
I hope you're doing well! I'm sorry this is so late!
I'm with you! I feel like currently, we're on the path for a repeat of the championship with NY and Minny, both of whom definitely look like the strongest teams and it doesn't feel particularly close. And I say this after both of them have played games without crucial pieces (JJ for NY and KMac/Phee for Minny) and still been able to win, which just goes to show the depth of both teams.
I think the Aces just have the same issue they've always had. There'll be game where they're gonna look really great but not having that other solid big next to A'ja is gonna cost them. Also just in general, A'ja leading them in everything is no sustainable no matter how good she is
The Dream are surprisingly very good? I think a solid top 4 team right now mayhaps?
The Valks definitely look like they're one or two star players away from being good soon in the sense that I think they have a vision and a system but not quite that player who can be their star. I have really enjoyed watching Janelle Salaun though!
Seattle has figured it out but I fear I can't say the same for the Sparks and definitely not the Wings. But the most disappointing team, in terms of expectation, has definitely been Chicago but they did just win back to back so we'll see if they can build in that.
Yes! Washington has definitely been a pleasant surprise!
YOU'RE GONNA MAKE SUCH A GREAT LAWYER BABES!

s11 vol 5 thoughts
Anna switching suddenly to Tunde (bc MC is not interested in him) is so sudden writing wise after she was going after Callum so much at the sleepover. Vida went after Callum so much in the first volume she showed up in, leaving Tunde open to flirt with MC and put all his attention on her, so I would've liked if Anna put all her attention on Tunde during the sleepover, that way it shows MC is not safe either option (or if you were already convinced to pick one LI then give MC some nonchalant options here with less forced drama... after all theres enough drama with Ren around + one girl going after your LI + Tunde/Callum/MC love triangle, it doesnt make sense to add second girl going after Tunde and Callum as well)
And she basically is getting the Ava treatment, saying she finally realizes she's not wanted and moving on, but idk the progression of it feels unnatural. Like if she came to this conclusion after callum had told her or MC had a word with her or even if she was just less aggressive about it in the earlier episodes then sure but up until like 5 minutes ago it feels like she was all in on Callum.
Did not give a shit about the challenge I don't even remember what it was
fusebox stop ruining my headcanons about friendships in the villa, first you get rid of Zabrina, then you make Ren annoying, am I supposed to befriend Anna and Jace now?? 😭😭
Anyway yes I am the only person upset with "person coupled with Ruby" calling MC shifty for the reason of ruining his character. Like this happens in S6 too, and I hated it then (you deserve better Jamal/Roberto) and I hate it now. I just want more than one friendship in the villa, and I thought Ren would be a good choice because he does have good traits and backstory (though only demonstrated in the first volume when MC is deciding between the three OG LIs), but also does bad things while he struggles in his friendship couple with Ruby because she's so quick to dismiss him (imo a reasonable complaint from him though I don't agree with all his actions as a result of it), and I think that helps rounds out his character. Compare that to your LI (in my case Callum) who can do no wrong and only has bad things happen to him (like Vida trying to steal him away) but does nothing wrong himself, or to Vida who is our one note villain that comes out the gate swinging and does not stop. But no, he starts to take an antagonistic role against MC and is gonna become an unlikable character that makes the episodes difficult to get through, thus negating any possible good will I'd have towards the character
and in another note it's just confusing especially after he says otherwise when you talk to all the boys, and he had no problems telling MC that he wanted to vote her out then, but acts coy about it at the firepit when confronted? pick a lane, be a coward or don't??

also I was holding out hope when Ren initially said he was gonna vote for MC because he didn't know her that well (a conversation I liked, before he changed his mind voted for her anyway for being shifty 🙄) that picking the option "oh let's get to know each other better" could reopen his route as like a late game love interest, but it seems like they may be teasing Jace could be a slow burn route? and like.. no thank you 😬
anyway I'm suffering reading all about Ruby and Ren the way I couldn't care less about Finn and Kat's drama in S5. Like Ruby doesn't deserve his shit but gotta admit he's not always wrong like the game is trying to make us believe. Like personally, don't know why he thinks MC is shifty, but if he feels that way I don't think he really owes her an apology. And yeah I'm also sick of Ruby constantly complaining she's with Ren, like wait for a bombshell girl, I'm sorry.

and I know they did it to fit the three episode per volume format, but I wish it was just a recoupling and not a dumping and then a recoupling. Literally just at the end of it, Vida gets dumped as the only single islander. I guess you miss out on Ren being shady towards MC but he can just do that without the guise of a dumping.
and if Jace and Esme are dealing with shit this next volume anyway, i would've liked to shake up the couples this recoupling bc almost everyone stayed in their couples. Like lets have the Esme Jace argument happen first and in front of MC and not off screen 🙄🙄, so theyre going through a rough patch but Esme thinks they will work it out. Recoupling time: Callum picks MC first, so they're happy and can stay in the hideaway, sure. Then let Jace be defensive and shockingly choose Ruby as a friendship couple. This definitely devestates Esme, who cant believe he would do something so dramatic over their argument before its fully resolved. Ren is happy about it though and he chooses Anna next, who is upset because she wanted Tunde. Then Tunde chooses to save Esme over Vida.
we can even still have a cliffhanger ending bc surely after a shake up like this, there's going to be conflict.
oh also callum and mc in the hideaway sure whatever it means nothing. if I wanted to learn about his character (which I do but not enough) I would pay for the gem scene but out of anger the fact people need to pay for the story to feel good and it's disjointed from the rest of the season?? no don't care

Everyone in tgcf is a foil character (if you squint)
(pt 2, pt 3, pt 4)
I will be writing this as I reread the book, so this is the first part where I'll write about Xuan Ji and Xiao-Ying. I may not remember some details about Xie Lian and Hua Cheng bc I haven't reread those parts yet but hopefully it won't affect anything important. And neither do I have the revised version nor do I know Chinese, so everything is based on the og version. (also English isn't my first language, I asked my friend to check everything but there may still be some mistakes)
I'll start with Xuan Ji, Pei Ming’s ex that burned down temples and killed 17 brides to attract his attention. So the thing that keeps her as a ghost is her obsession with the man that prevented her suicide attempt. Also she wears red. Yes, I will be comparing her to Hua Cheng here. And this might be a stretch, but the plot may be indicating that she's his foil because Xie Lian first thinks that Hua Cheng is the ghost groom. Anyway, it's more important how those two are different. Xuan Ji's final goal is Pei Ming's love and attention. She doesn't take into consideration his needs and feelings, her own feelings come first. This is their main difference. Xuan Ji broke her legs to trap Pei Ming into staying, died to make him grieve — Hua Cheng died several times to save Xie Lian and didn't care about himself. She cries about how much she sacrificed, like Pei Ming owes her because of it — Hua Cheng gives his ashes to Xie Lian and doesn't care what will happen to them. He only wants Xie Lian to be happy. Xuan Ji wants Pei Ming to come to her, while Hua Cheng has been looking for Xie Lian for hundreds of years. Xuan Ji blames Pei Ming for everything that's wrong with her and her life — Hua Cheng would never. Xuan Ji shows how dangerous an obsession can be. Her love leads first to self-destruction, obvious in her broken legs and her last suicide attempt, and then to burned temples and people's deaths (although she was a general, her actions likely affected others even then). Hua Cheng did burn down temples too, but only to avenge his love, who didn't know about it for hundreds of years. Hua Cheng builds new temples for him. And, in the end, Xuan Ji is as powerful as she is only with Qi Rong's help while Hua Cheng became supreme on his own– his feelings are much stronger.
It is possible to find some similarities with Xie Lian too: besides being a fierce general, she is incredibly beautiful (and Xie Lian is Flower-Crowned Martial God), and while she had a high position during her life, now she's just a ghost. Xuan Ji feels as if noone is on her side, the one closest to her — betrayed her (add two suicide attempts there, although the reasoning is quite different). This reminds me the most of Xie Lian from book four, but fortunately he did see good in people, and in the end the only one suffering because of his actions was Wu Ming. Are these similarities the reason why he doesn't want to judge her without knowing the whole story?* The fact that he sees himself from the past in Xuan Ji and understands the desire to have someone who will stay by your side no matter what? Well, he never judges anyone too quickly and I can't claim anything. So. When compared to Xuan Ji, everyone showes their good sides, wow, what a revelation, I know.
*It doesn't really fit in this theme but those words might be directed at the reader since there are many lies in the book. The first that comes to my mind is the fact that Xie Lian knew about Nan Feng and Fu Yao's true identities already in the first book, but nothing in the text indicates that. But we're not speaking about them (yet?). In case of the ghost groom we first know the legend, then Xuan Ji's retelling and, finally, Pei Su's words, which we perceive as the truth. Every time characters' motivations are changed completely. This happens with many stories, from Xie Lian's past to less important parts like this one.
Now let's speak about the character whom I didn't plan to speak about at first: Xiao Yin. It is possible to compare her to Hua Cheng, or, to be more specific, Hong Hong-er: everyone thinks she's ugly and bullies her. Of course, we only see this behavior from Xiao-Pengtou (I don't remember the "tou" part in his name but wiki says it so it must be true), and the only other person with at least some significance from her village is the teahouse owner who is more of a narrator. But both she and Lang Ying avoid the light and don't look in people's eyes, and in the end she says she hasn't had any good days in her life, which probably means people in general didn't treat her well. Another similarity is the fact that Xiao Yin says that maybe she was born unlucky in the last moments of her life, while Hong-er was literally born under the Star of Solitude. But, unlike him, Xiao Yin isn't angry at the world. Before meeting Xie Lian Hong Hong-er wanted to ruin the festival for everyone with his own death, and now Hua Cheng mostly cares only about the crown prince. But Xiao Yin drags Xiao-Pengtou inside the circle made by Ryoe to save him. I can't think of a better example but from some angles it can be similar to Xie Lian saving Mu Qing, but he had eight hundred years, and he doesn't really care about the past anymore, and the whole situation is different… anyway, Xiao Ying only wants to help people, especially Lan Ying, helps Xie Lian as soon as she sees he needs it, but in the end most of it is in vain (Xiao-Pengtou did die), even her death didn't change anything, and the only one who grieves for her is the bandaged boy. Remember Xie Lian and his attempts to save Xianle? There even was a bandaged boy too. Xie Lian might have lied to Xiao Ying because of it, but he does lie out of kindness quite often, so this may not be true. Back to Xiao Ying. No matter how hard she tries, people always misinterpret her intentions and look for a catch (you want to help this boy? no, surely you're helping the ghost bridegroom). This is a common theme in all of mxtx's novels, Xie Lian isn't an exception. Even Xie Lian compares himself and Xiao Ying and says that she's stronger. That's probably because in her last words, she wanted to overcome her misfortune. No matter what she wanted to help everyone, including those who mistreated her, and didn't even think of sending an awful plague onto them.
I don't think Xiao-Pengtou is important enough to write something about him, although it is quite interesting how he could affect everyone's actions by just being there — after his death everyone was sorry. He probably would fit into an essay about ruling figures in tgcf. There isn't much said about Lan Ying yet, and later we learn way more about Nan Feng and Fu Yao, so there are some things I want to say that are not about characters. The themes important for the whole book and many characters — desire for closeness with other people, striving to find someone who will understand you and will never leave, inevitability of tragic events, discrepancy between what you are and what people see you as, distortion of history — are introduced in the first chapters. All of them will be important in the future arcs and probably this is why it's so easy to find foils: we see how the same themes are explored in different characters. I wonder how many words will be used for more important characters if I wrote so much on Xiao Ying…
#i have been thinking about this since February#tgcf meta#xie lian#hua cheng#xuan ji#xiao yin#foils in tgcf

as someone who doesn't like Eridan I am curious as to why he is your favorite character.
Part of it is his design that really stands out from most of the other characters. Eridan is quite more fashionable than Kanaya. He at least show more emphasis on him being the respective violetblood he takes pride in, while also wearing blue, another color that is related to highblood status. As well as blue being part of a violet shade. Though if you try to tell him vviolets are blue, he will damn correct you that vviolets are vviolets. Learn your damn colors! Another is a bit of his personality. He is a douche, a tool. A violetblood who takes advantage of being high privileged and will put others down beneath him, because the hemospectrum says so. He is more racist than Equius. He is the perfect example of what a troll should be and how trolls should act. Too many fantroll OCs go for the more revolutionary against Alternia or being the "nicer" troll. But no one tries to be racist to lowbloods like a rustblood or bronze. No highblood fans themselves with their money or seen to enjoy living a luxurious lifestyle. He is the OG real deal of what it is like if someone is born under Her Imperious Condescesion's ruling. The only thing that he does have a fear that even he cannot escape as a highblood, was the pailing. Basically, he needs to fuck with someone or he dies, because Eridan did not contribute to help repopulate his race. It's already bad enough sea dwellers are rare to come by and his quadrants are empty as hell. Despite being the rich kid, Eridan craves for attention, whether be red romance or black hatred. Any one of those would be able to please him, if it meant it could comfort his ease of loneliness. The way he approaches could be seen as creepy, but at least Eridan is honest about his feelings. He doesn't dance around or lie hard to those close to him. It's that same advice of being direct that he tells to Kanaya, because she will not get Vriska's attention that way. It's also why he can't kill land dwellers. He wants to have good relationships with them. It's that same relationship that shows he his a hypocrite. The dude rants about being a sea dweller and wanting to kill all land dwellers. But he never acts on it. He only commissions people to build doomsday devices, but never makes one himself. Eridan spends most of his time on land than at sea, as Feferi points out. He has an interests in wizards, but doesn't believe in magic. That's a bit of parallel of Rose's interest to write yaoi wizard fics, but she dislikes wizards themselves because of her mother's encouragement of her hobby (though Rose was over analyzing her intentions, she did not realize Mom Lalonde did care about her well being despite Sburb going to happen). The man collects various weapons, but his main strife specibus is his rifle. We don't actually know if he uses the harpoons, spears, or other weapons he has collected in his hive. It could relate to Eridan's interest in military history and wanting to be like said general figures and dictators. But we rarely see him gather some army or actually trying to lead like one. He is all glub and no bite. It's sort of interesting that he is flawed. And of course, we cannot address about his actions in Murderstuck. You can sort of sympathize with him in some way. He lost his moirail, he has no other friends left, his home planet is destroyed, and this big bad Jack Noir is going to kill them. With Alternia gone, anything like hemospectrum or highblood lowblood status, don't mean SHIT if they have to abandon it. That means, Eridan has nothing left on himself. All of this happened as he was still a TEENAGER. The poor fish was feeling hopeless and his actions were caused by his own emotions. It's different from Gamzee, who can be seen controlled by Caliborn/Lord English or was willing to follow to help for his cause. Different from Vriska, as she wants to be seen as the big hero by raising the stakes even higher than before. I sort of wished that he could have faced Gamzee in some way during that x3 showdown combo, since their aspects are complementary towards each other. It would also be
fitting he gets revenge for Dualscar's death, by killing the descendant of the Grand Highblood. He and Vriska could have worked together one last time against the clown. Part of me also jokingly thinks Eridan would try to convince Vriska to take him to Jack in order to serve him. It's sort of a question of how exactly Eridan would get Jack Noir's attention. It is never explained how, even when Feferi and Sollux agreed they have to stop him. Would he fire his wwand to make a signal beam to get Jack to fly over? Would he asks Vriska to deliver himself to the man? No one knows, but either way, his surrender out of fear could be seen as dumb and cowardly. Sucks that he got killed by end of Act 5. But probably for the best he stayed dead, so that his character wasn't ruined from Act 6 to Pesterquest. His character not doing much as a sprite was one of the worst offenses. He really could have helped Jake about his Hope powers, but every dead troll there was shafted aside. At least let FEFPETASPRITE TALK. Don't use her as a joke, just because Hussie doesn't want to do Feferi and Nepeta's quirk in one chatlog! Then there's the half assed "redemption" joke bit from Epilogues and the ridiculous gender arc by retconning Eridan's backstory and forgetting about another character's relation with his lusus. Because WhatPumpkin don't want him to be a racist, rich creep asshole. And yet, it's why I love him. Eridan is one flawed, tragic villain. Maybe I just have a weird interests in douchebags who try so hard to be liked or acknowledged of being superior by putting others down to push their own pride, but with the way that has been set for Eridan, sort of makes sense to me that he would do all these actions. It's fucked up, but I can't blame him for being put in that kind of situation. Being a kid and growing up, it's hard and nobody understands. His life was an Ugly Story.

And here I am again :D. Ok before starting where I left I would like to say that it hit me yesterday that since Bulma (and thus her whole family) is an alien here, there is no Capsule or Capsule Corps on Earth yet. I decided about that a long time ago but I just now realized that it meant no capsule in Og DB either lol.
So I'm correcting that now. You can now imagine Vegeta traveling in a multi-pupose vehicule (like that Airplane/Submarine Bulma, Krillin and Goku take in the Red Ribbon Arc) which is carrying behind a big ass luxury caravan or something (which I also imagine are all floating since it would make them fit for all landscape which would be Vegeta priority).
Anyway back to the story :D
So our duo, and their stalker Raditz, arrive in a village where the Dragon Ball is supposed to be. At first glance the village seems to be abandoned. Until ChiChi does pretty much what Goku did in the manga. AkA she smelled that the villager were still here and just broke into a random house.
What's interesting here is that I think Goku and ChiChi both do this out of ignorance on how that action could be harmful to someone, but that ignorance come from 2 different places. For Goku it was because of his utter isolation in the mountain. And for ChiChi it's because her Dad has been raiding people's homes for her whole life on Earth, so she's so used to it that she never questioned the morality of it all. She doesn't think it's good or righteous, she just never took the time (or had the idea) to question it.
Don't get me wrong ChiChi is pure of heart and she could ride Kint'un/Flying Nimbus but I truly believe that empathy/compassion/sympathy (or even simply consideration for the people you don't know) do not come naturally to the Saiyans. That's just not how their brain work. They of course can learn to do it, which make a saiyan who decide to show consideration for a stranger even more powerful in my eyes, because it's something, someone they put effort to become, not just something they were born with. But point is, to learn something you generally need to be taught. And when it comes to compassion well... Ox-king really wasn't the best teacher (at least up until that point in time).
Where I'm going with all this is that ChiChi is a good girl... A good girl that sometimes do evil things due to her upbringing xD.
Like right now in our story, where she trespassed into terrified villagers's home, got an axe in the head for her trouble and then had to be hold back by Vegeta to beat up those villager as retribution xDD. She'll learn eventually of course but it's not for right now.
For now Vegeta barely managed to stop her from going on her rampage. Granted the villager actually apologized for the axes so ChiChi stopped her assault but she was still in a bad mood. She will not be of help for anybody. Which means that Vegeta is alone into the negotiations to get the Dragon Ball. It shouldn't have been a problem really because the villager don't really care about the orange shiny orb that is somewhere around one of their house, and someone did nearly murder a girl. But still this task require the bare minimum of courtesy to achieve. Vegeta has negative points in courtesy.
Normally that wouldn't be an unsolvable problem for him coz he has money and do not hesitate to buy people into tolerating his rudeness with it. But here it doesn't really work out because it turns out that the village is frequently getting blackmailed and robbed by the same guy over and over again. So if they accepted the money it would be gone by the end of the day anyway.
The villagers do want a deal, and it would be for ChiChi to defeat him if possible. The situation has gotten so bad, they are afraid they're going to starve if this go on. ChiChi still in a bad mood and still resentful is having none of it. Vegeta is having none of it either. Asking such a task from a young princess just after trying to take her life does NOT sit right with him.
And so screaming match ensues.
Ok this is getting long so I'm gonna cut it there but I am not done for today ! Next part of the Oolong species swap AU coming soon !
Hello would you like a rant about one of those :
_An AU I have where Goku is an earthling and ChiChi a saiyan (Og DB version and/or DBZ version)
_An AU where Vegeta was sent to Earth instead of Goku, but Goku is still very much the Main Character (beside I hyperfocus a lot on the Son Family so the Au is mainly on how, against all odds, this family still managed to find each other)
_About a song that I think would fit GoChi pretty well :D (the song in question being "Je te Donne" by Jean-Jacques Goldman but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't know it since most of it is in french and it is pretty old :(, I'll do a translation if you do want to hear about it :) )
_About how Goku was a smart kid, it's not his fault confused "stupid" and "was taught very little basic knowledge" :((
_About how, while I like the first telefilm on Bardock and prefer the personality they gave him, I largely prefer DB Minus as the story on how Goku got sent to Earth and my frustration with the telefilm being mostly used as the reference (though I can downplay that last part if you want). As a bonus I can also expand on how and why I also prefer the manga version of DB Minus over what they did in the DB Super Broly movie
?
I just discovered your blog and I love it :DDD. I am also very glad to found another person who like Og Dragon Ball more than Dbz :DD. You're amazing and I hope you're having a good day/night :]
Yes but I’m bad at making choices so any one you want lol
#ssdb au#ssdb#ssdb raditz#ssdb chichi#ssdb vegeta#ssdb part 5#db#dragon ball#Raditz#Vegeta#ChiChi#Son ChiChi#Should I just write a fanfic at this point ?#Yes but I can't coz Writer Block is holding me hostage :(

Damn you got me when you said Sun is more badass than in the drama you know how dramas nerf the ML from novels anyways or change things where it doesn't do the OG characters justice. I hope she doesn't push him away a lot and misunderstands him like she did early on in the drama I know this isn't a romance story but I do love my action and romance so couldn't help but love them as a couple when watching the drama. Oh that sounds so cute where she blushes when he asks her so they have a
better relationship early on then the drama did and we see them grow closer throughout their time together? Oh tell me all the Cp moments you sold me on this lol I need all the spoilers for them I thought I liked them in the drama but I can tell I'll love them more in the manga version. By the way do you think you can link me to it so I can read it? I thought you meant the character as well as Changge family and friends wanted them to kiss already lol. How different is Sun like he's still an amazing general like in the manga right? I did hear about Sun not knowing she's a girl for a while when is that revealed? Doesn't he fall for her even though he thinks she's a guy? I actually didn't mind too much of Sun saving her a lot isn't she more of a strategist than a fighter? But that might be because I only watched the drama. Does Pusa not like Sun? I'm sure people are wary of him because he was part of the Ashille Tribe. Oh what did the letter say? I remember him writing one in the drama but I assume what he says something different. Oh man this is SO MUCH more CP moments for them than the drama ever did and I can't wait for it. What chapter is it on right now? I hope the hiatus is over soon so I can read even more when I get close to getting caught up. Sorry for sending multiple messages I tried responding to most of what you said but I might've missed some I wish tumblr had a higher character limit.
YES! I can't even say they nerfed his characterization because drama!Sun vs manhua!Sun are two completely different characters. Like I said, still a badass and definitely still an amazing general.
Also, there is no misunderstanding in the manhua like the drama. Simply because the drama sped up how they met. They met in the capital, various times throughout their journal, and finally again when they are standing on opposite sides of the battlefield. In the manhua, Chang Ge and Sun do not meet or know each other until they are on opposite sides of the battlefield.
Like the drama, she loses the final battle and he has her become his military strategist. (My memory gets a little fuzzy at this point). But he doesn't trust her at first and she proved herself (intelligence-wise and saving his butt) so then he's like, thank you for saving me; I now consider you my good brother. Manhua-Sun is very... simple? He is very obvious in his likes and dislikes. If he trusts you, he gives his 100%, if he doesn't then he is not going to pretend to like you.
He finds out her gender after she goes missing. In both the manhua and drama, she ends up at a Taoist temple. So while he was searching for her he encounters Old Man Qin? Was that his name? I honestly can't remember. The interaction goes something like this:
Mujin: We asked around but found no young man fitting that description. Old Man Qin: Oh, maybe you should ask around for a young woman instead. Sun: *spit take* also *blushx100*
I honestly can't remember if he falls for her while still thinking she was a guy. He probably was feeling some type of way but there was no real indication of his feelings during that time. Sun was obviously super embarrassed when he found out that she was a girl but anything beyond that is up in the air. But when he actually sees her, he does admit to Mujin that she's "kinda pretty" is his exact words, I'm pretty sure.
So, the reason I didn't like Sun saving Chang Ge so much isn't because she is more of a military strategist than a fighter... Although, I am pretty sure the drama also made her physically weaker than she is in the manhua. What annoyed me the most was (again, this is me comparing drama!Chang Ge to manhua!Chang Ge) manhua!Chang Ge would have never gotten herself into the situations she got into in the drama. I'm not saying she is intelligent just because the drama/manhua says she is. She comes up with plans and plans behind plans; she would have maneuvered and manipulated herself out of the situation. Girl thinks three steps ahead and if something does not go her way, she is able to adjust her plan accordingly.
Pusa's relationship with Sun is more of "you have an ambiguous relationship with my niece and I am not sure how I feel about that." Anyway, their relationship is hilarious. Pusa's relationship with Chang Ge is hilarious as well. I just love Pusa.
I honestly can't remember what the letter in the manhua said. I think it was something like, "Beautiful Han girl. I like." in horrible handwriting. LOLOL Definitely something just as cheesy.
It's currently on Chapter 61. And yeah, I think the hiatus will be over soon. Bilibili and Teacher Xia Da made an announcement that the manhua was going to get reserialized again late November of 2020 but we haven't gotten an actual date yet. There's also going to be an animation, which I am pretty excited about. I don't care what form it comes at me in, I just want more Chang Ge Xing!
And sorry, I don't like to link to aggressor sites (Mangadex is currently down, otherwise I would link you to that) but you can just google Chang Ge Xing and pick a site to read it from. I can't even link you to the original RAW as her old publisher doesn't deserve anymore pageviews.
