if Harry Potter’s mere presence is enough to make a snake want to be his familiar, you have earned an eye roll from me. A snake who can speak to the main character is a character themselves. they should not immediately fold to Harry and want to be with him 24/7. this plot point speaks to a grave misunderstanding of how character relationships work

if you want the snake to be close with Harry, perchance they should have an actual reason to be, not just that “the snake was lonely bc there’s no speakers :(“

EXAMPLE: snake sees harry. Harry sees snake, snake insults harry’s lack of snake like features. Harry insults snake’s low IQ. snake is very cold. between insults for being a pathetic looking hatchling, snake requests to be taken inside by harry. except, harry is not loving the idea of having a pet snake. the snake rejects the notion of this and simply “wants to hitch a ride, you jerk”. friendship is slow and halting because Harry has a canon distrust for snakes and snakes don’t love humans.

parseltongue isn’t snake catnip. Harry doesn’t get free snake companionship. make him work for it
