Thoughts I had during TGCF S2 Ep 6
Previously on TGCF…
This is gonna be epic!!!
Cw: Past homicide
-That’s Yong’An in its heyday
-Sparrows
-Fang Xin
-It’s Qianqiu’s assistant from Eps 1-2!
-Young Qianqiu is literally me in my Freshman year of High School during the first semester
-His butterfly shaped mask
-Writing the Laozi 10 times has the energy of making a kid stay in class and write a sentence over and over on the chalkboard till they’ve learned their lesson (Literally every Simpsons opening)
-He doubled it
-Imagine if Piandao talked to Sokka like that when beginning his sword training
-Man wonder who voices Young!Qianqiu?
-I mean the move could also get you hurt if you’re careless
-This is the Ancient Chinese version of the trolley problem, same analogy though
-I like to think this advice was taught to Zuko and Sokka when they were learning swordsmanship
-See, trolley problem esque
-Good advice to not intervene
-More dead bodies
-Oh no and that was his Dad
-That’s when the survivor’s guilt set in
-I can see why Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are perfect for each other, they both have a freaking high kill count
-Just like when Bruce Wayne lost his parents
-What did he say?
-He’s not a monster
-That was during his second ascenscion
-That’s gonna be a bad outcome
-“I wish to be stripped of my divinity” Literally every fangirl’s brain drifted to something else when he said that.  Just look at Kictor and Stitch
-Doesn’t seem like he earned it at all
-He just wants to get out of the drama
-If there was a modern AU, you know Shi Qingxuan would make an awesome and wealthy defense attorney
-There’s the Amongus quote
-Dang no answer
-There’s Prosecutor Pei Ming, that’s a good nickname.
-He made a solid point
-That’s the result of the Fang Xin trial with XL on house arrest and a restraining order from Taihua
-He made another enemy
-Aaaa pickle jar, better believe it Qingxuan
-How is she going to get air???
-That upset Qingxuan, Feng Xin, and Mu Qing
-The interior looks hollow in Xie Lian’s palace
-That’s coming out of Qingxuan’s pockets
-He deserves the apology hun
Tumblr media
-He’s doing it, he’s doing the iconic old time Put your head between your arms against a flat surface like a Disney Princess!
-He still has the dice
-It’s snake eyes!
-Hi Mu Qing
-Stick it to Jun Wu, Mu Qing
-I know right, it did NOT seem like a healing spell at all
-Wonder if I can conceptualize a similar healing potion for TOH MTC…?
-You just had to ask him that didn’t you?
-Hi Feng Xin
-A guest who invited himself inside
-Welp he really was honest
-Seriously, Mu Qing you couldn’t have felt bad for his house arrest
-Xie Lian’s trying to mediate again
-Mu Qing’s response had bite to it
-One Punch!!!
-Fist Fight!  Fist Fight!
-“You’re a hypocrite, you’ve always looked down on me, but you’re not better than I am!!!”  Oh my gods, Lucien Dodge freaking delivered!!!
-“Enough…” Oh man, Xie Lian’s emotions
Tumblr media
-The Junior Officials witnessing the Generals fisticuffs:
Feng Xin!  Feng Xin!  Feng Xin!
Mu Qing!  Mu Qing!  Mu Qing!
-“Did it really have to come to violence?” Yeah it pretty much did. - Iroh, dragon of the West, the Waterbending scroll
-Mu Qing: Fine I’ll break your face
Feng Xin: Not if I break yours first!  It’s too late to beg for mercy!
That’s what I translated to the best of my skills during Xie Lian’s internal monologue
-He’s like a parent that’s disappointed with his two kids constantly at odd
-Don’t worry, hon what’s really gonna help them is Couples’ therapy, and I’d hate to be that therapist
-A dramatic sound effect!
-I can’t wait to write the Gaang’s reaction to the Wraith Butterflies
-That was a cool shield spell
-I love how the butterflies are easily dodging Xie Lian, but are charging toward Mu Qing and Feng Xin to scare the sh*t outta them
Tumblr media
-He’s gonna hold one of the butterflies, he’s holding one of the butterflies, yeah too late man AND HE’S NUZZLING THE WINGTIPS WITH HIS NOSE Cue keyboard smash! WAE TESDHGFYFJ. RYGJ GUFTDRSSDFAEGRRESVGTGTRS DFGSTRWG EIEEEIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!! I always love this joke, no matter how old it’s gonna get in my reaction posts.
-Yeah he’s just going
Tumblr media
-The real reason this episode took so long to air last year was that the animators had to get the waist snatch scene past censorship to spite their censor companies for not having Xie Lian fall into Hua Cheng’s lap in Eps 4-5.
Tumblr media
-Xie Lian: Hello Again, Literally me: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! (This is the same noise Eleanor Shellstrop made when she was gifted a Shrimp Dispenser in The Good Place)
-They’re just backing up
-You two had one job!  Looking at you Feng Xin and Mu Qing!  I see ya
-He’s just tugging his sleeve as they’re walking
-Man, it’s like Hua Cheng took Little John’s advice from Robin Hood 1973 to “Climb the palace walls.  *Tosses out Gross Carrot* Sweep him off his feet, carry him off in style.” - Little John, Disney Robin Hood (1973) (Best Disney film hands down, freaking fight me if you dare)
-That must’ve hurt his ears
-Y’all had one job
-Feng Xin is just worried
-*Hua Cheng has entered the chat*  Like a goat!
-The subtle eye contact and expression he shared with Xie Lian!
-Some of the 33 gods he defeated are also in the chat
-That shook the veils
-Won’t that be pain in his mind?
-Looks like he saved you yeah
-A flashback from Ep 5!
-Touchstarved!  Touchstarved!  (Try prying this headcanon from my cold dead grip!)
-And here you’re about to see Howard Wang’s best performance in the series so far
-Best apology I’ve ever heard in media
-It healed that fast
-Petition to have James Cheek voice an iconic lead character in a Shakespeare play?
-Aw, they were actually both at fault for what happened
-You can actually feel Hua Cheng’s Shame
-E Ming: Noooo…. You hurt him!  I hurt him!  We hurt him! AAAHHH!  *sobs*
Season 2 has fed us once more!  I’m still busy with writing the Scrap Immortal and the Avatar.  For writing inspiration, I’ll be busy rewatching Avatar:  The Last Airbender

“It’s been corrected!” - Junior Official Nan Feng, TGCF Donghua S1 EP 1 Eng Dub.
-Another Gargoyle!TGCF character I’ve finished drawing the same day I finished sketching Feng Xin
-I loved incorporating his Gargoyle feet into his dynamic pose!
-His horns are small to see on his forehead, his hand talons are gloved just like in the Donghua, and his design was inspired by Brooklyn
The next Garg!TGCF will be done pretty soon!

So, the thing with Qiu Qingzhi vs Qiu Shenji is that they *are* different characters in a lot of ways. Qiu Shenji is more explicitly morally complex whilst what we see of Qiu Qingzhi is much lighter grey, all considered. But the root of their sense of morality remains, for the most part, identical.
In both cases, they have people they prioritise as "their" people. And for these people, they would sell the world. In the cdrama, this applies to Li Bing and the former slaves/convicts. In the manhua/donghua, it's the people working beneath him (such as General Lang in her former role).
Qiu Shenji is very much running the numbers game in a way that implicitly devalues the lives of civilians, purely because of the potential that the civilians could themselves be sleeper agents. He's been burnt before by doing the "compassionate" thing and so now would rather his troops get away safe, even at the expense of potential innocents. He even outright says something to this effect in his discussion with Minister Xu. If it's not their blood on the ground, then it's his.
To be quite frank, it's entirely possible that Qiu Qingzhi is off doing similar maths in the background of the cdrama, and it's an adaptational choice not to make that too explicit. But at the same time, Qiu Qingzhi's chosen people are not *necessarily* the same as Qiu Shenji's. And so the people he is willing to sacrifice to achieve his aims and protect those close to him differ accordingly.
The cdrama doesn't overly concern itself with asking questions of morality, being focused on more personal stakes overall, rather than weighing up any lofty ideas of what constitutes "ends justify the means" or the distant idea of a "greater good".
But just looking at the wider framework here. Qiu Shenji and Qiu Qingzhi are both a lot more politically aware than Li Bing and this heavily informs their actions. Li Bing can afford to rally for justice because of the space that's been made for him to do so. Qiu Qingzhi and Qiu Shenji do not have that option.
In Qiu Qingzhi's case, it's because his upbringing as a slave cannot be cast off. (Both he and Lai Zhongzhu have this in common. Where the donghua/manhua go for morality and politics, the cdrama goes more for class commentary. Qiu Qingzhi and Lai Zhongzhu both claw their way up from their birth stations and yet neither can remain there for long. They would never *truly* be accepted, not matter what actions they take to prove their loyalty). He has seen how disposable he and his fellow slaves are considered to be and so knows he cannot put a foot wrong.
In Qiu Shenji's, it's because he knows full well how easily he can be implicated by his former relationship with the Li family. (Something that the actual Li Bing was politically astute enough to pick up on years before any rebellion had taken place) And, honestly, even with his other reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if that also plays somewhat into why he's so overzealous in quashing rebellions. The idea of taking down rebels so viciously that he cannot ever be accused of being one himself.
Both Qiu Qingzhi and Qiu Shenji act strongly in their determination to achieve their aims. They want to shoulder the hard acts because they believe that they *have* to be done, but at the same time, are entirely willing to take on that burden *alone* without demeaning those who feel differently.
For Qiu Shenji, General Lang mentions she couldn't stomach his rebel-quashing tactics and so he made sure to obtain her a position elsewhere. She says he had also done this for others and seems thankful, even as she must know she is still complicit. Qiu Shenji knows how he is seen by the general populace, but thinks it an acceptable sacrifice for maintaining peace.
For Qiu Qingzhi, he made his deal with Yi Zhihua and then locked out Li Bing entirely, despite all their history. He would rather Li Bing hate him but be safe than let him in and put him at risk.
Both Qiu Qingzhi and Qiu Shenji commit to drown themselves in the blood of others so that they can protect "their" people. They made their decisions long ago and remain committed. Even choking, caged in a trap slowly tightening around them, they will not flee.

TGCF Vol 3 (eng), Chp. 43 - 44 (First "Kiss") Part 1 / 5 (next >)
First part of the comic is finally done! I chose this scene because I know the donghua/manhua will almost certainly censor it and also I feel like there's a lot of beautiful but also inaccurate depictions of this kiss and I just wanna do the full scene justice, including Xie Lian's reaction on the beach. I'm trying to stay as close to the novel as possible but some dialogue will be slightly altered to fit the flow of the comic. I should have planned it to be more vertically oriented to fit tumblr better but hell I don't actually know anything about making comics.
CW for those who don't know where this is going: The next part of this comic includes relatively non-consensual kissing. The purpose is the exchange of air & to keep the smoke spirit from entering, but Xie Lian does struggle against it in the beginning. If this might trigger or upset you, don't read any further.
A direct novel excerpt of this scene is under the cut.
[comic panel numbers] [1] It didn't take long before his throat itched, and that cloud of black smoke was retched back out! [2] Xie Lian covered his mouth with his sleeve, coughing nonstop and choked by tears. [3] His mind raced to find another countermeasure. Even after the cloud of black smoke was forcibly vomited out, it still swirled about and relentlessly clung to his body. [4] Xie Lian pushed himself onto the windowsill, raised himself up, and leapt into the lake outside. [5, 6] With a splash, Xie Lian plunged deep into the heart of the lake. [7] He held his breath, crossed his arms and legs, and assumed a meditative position, letting his body slowly sink to the bottom of that freezing lake. Once his heartbeat returned to normal, he looked up and could somewhat make out the black fog swirling above, blocking off the surface of the water. [8] Once he emerged, he'd have to gasp in a deep breath, and in doing so, he would surely suck the child spirit into his stomach. [9] A grown man with a fulsome baby bump wasn't the least bit funny to imagine. [10] However, his leap into the water had only been meant to give himself some time to think. It didn't take long for Xie Lian to come up with a counterattack. [11] So what if I swallow it? I'll just swallow Fangxin right after. [12] He'd learned that trick when performing on the streets. [13] Although it might hurt, whatever -- as long as the child spirit could be captured. [14] With his mind thus made up, Xie Lian released his arms and started swimming upward. [15, 16] A muffled sound of sloshing water came from above, and suddenly a vast expanse of burning, vivid crimson red flooded his vision. [17] A tangle of winding raven-black locks obscured his sight, though nothing could be seen through the splashing water and schools of air bubbles.

my favourite sha hualing design is the english novels but i like silver > gold so heres the saintess that exists in my mind. the day i draw my full sha hualing design in full is the day i finally develop carpal tunnel lmao
basically adding elements of donghua sha hualing upping the silver jewelry and .... needlessly making her hair complicated
design rambles underneath
from what i remember of sha hualings design she was described wearing jingling silver jewelry and bells and "several bolts of fabric". also that she had bright makeup, her hair was made up of tiny braids and dressed in an "exotic" manner
ik from cdrama tropes this is probably supposed to resemble caricatures of central and west asian cultures. ik early iterations of fanart there was a popular depiction of her with a tibetan hairstyle 😬
with that description i can understand how its easy to lean on known design tropes like the "belly dancer" outfit for her. which is why i like the eng novels design because it avoids that. i mean the donghua does too i guess but uh. i dont like that design lmao
i wanted to somehow incorporate her description of various braids though so heres my attempt at it ... ? as far as i can tell this netted hairstyle isnt particular to anywhere ... if it is my google search skills just suck i guess 😭 idk i just think a lot about clothes + fashion 💀

so today i tricked my very straight male friend into reading svsss.
okay look, i wasn't planning to at first and it's not like it was completely my fault. he wanted to read it!
i was showing him how badly they fucked up mu qingfang in the donghua by comparing it to the english novel design (he said that mu qingfang went from looking like a soft dilf to a predator registered on the epstein island list). and then, i showed him how different some of the other character designs were like gongyi xiao's ("he looks like he'd be a genshin character" -friend, to eng novel design) and luo binghe's ("lowkey, he kinda gives airbender vibes" -friend, to bunhe eng novel design)
so that was all i was gonna show him, nothing else. but after seeing them, he goes, "these designs actually look hella cool. what's the book called?"
now, do i:
A. tell him the name, eventually revealing that it's a danmei when he looks it up?
B. just straight up tell him that it's a danmei?
C: don't tell him the name just yet, spill the summary, get him interested, and tell him to not search anything up about it because there's heavy spoilers and it will reveal them the moment he types it up on the search bar
i go with C, obviously.
me: so, basically, some guy named shen yuan transmigrates into an incel harem male power fantasy novel where the protagonist, luo binghe, has hundreds of wives. thing is though, the guy pretty much took over the body of binghe's teacher he had when he was a teenager, who turns out to be a really scummy dude. and now he has to be nice to him so that the protagonist doesn't rip off his limbs and put him into a pickle pot in the future to suffer for eternity.
friend: that sounds hilarious and horrifying at the same time.
me: yes it is, and you should read it. it's like. my favorite novel at the moment. but don't search up anything about it because people spoil that shit. i'll let you borrow my novel
friend: nah don't worry, i'll just pirate it
friend: wait. does it have pictures?
me, my plan coming together: yeah, it has pictures. buuut, when you pirate it, it doesn't. trust me dude, i tried and was severely disappointed. plus, the physical copy is so much better
friend: fuck yeah ok thanks
me: hold on though. i'll text you later to see if my friend who's borrowing it rn is done reading it
Tumblr media
he's hyped. he's excited. he craves a good book and a good transmigration interpretation. he's especially happy about the fact that it takes place in a chinese setting with cool powers and an actual good main character. "this sounds so good, god i wanna read it so bad."
i tell him that binghe is actually adorable, too. that it's pretty much found family! my friend then asks if shen yuan adopts him and becomes a father figure or something.
and i said "yes". you know, like a liar. (the father figure part probably isn't a lie though)
now i'm gonna give him the novel tomorrow! of course, i'm gonna cover the chapter 2 bunhe sexual awakening scene with washi tape and say that my baby cousin (sorry baby cousin, you would never <\3) scribbled all over that paragraph with her markers, and since i'm a neat book freak, i put washi tape and just wrote the scene! i don't know if that's really all too believable, but he didn't seem to care that much. just a simple "if my baby cousin did that to my book i would punt them into the sun"
Tumblr media
i think what'll be more hilarious is the fact that you can't really tell that svsss is a BL. especially not volume 1. there's like, only a few lines indicating, but if you remove the baby binghe sexual awakening scene then you probably won't be able to know (...if you don't really read romance or anything. idk he's kinda dense anyways). so let's hope he gets attached and has a slow descent into the homo before i drop svsss vol 2 on him!
ok anyways i'll update you guys later with a reblog. maybe in about two or three days lol
(also don't worry, we already fuck around with each other on a daily basis like this. he's already tricked me into reading some manga i was unprepared for, and i thought that it'd be funny to mess around with him using svsss this time lol)

Thoughts I had during TGCF S2 Ep 5
Gonna go conquer Ep 6 after this
Previously on TGCF…
-Back in Paradise Manor’s armory
-Boo Chinese censorship!!!
-Lang Ying is me when I’m experiencing a sensory overload or meltdown
-He spun him right round like a record baby
Tumblr media
-Hua Cheng is in a modeling pose (As my sis would say, “Now he’s draping himself.”)
-It’s going down!
-He just did an effortless backflip
-Lang Ying is clutching at XL sleeves!
-Hey!  Qingxuan!  No interrupting him!  Bad Windmaster!  Bad!
-I think he does have issues with Ming Yi, you just don’t know what they are
-Dude just roasted the Earth Master
-Yep that’s foreshadowing
-He’s in a battle stance!
-That was an awesome sword twirl
-He called him, ‘Your Highnesss’!  This ain’t no drill!!!
-Oh no he’s airbending in an inside area!
-No not the polearms!
-“We could’ve solved this peacefully”  Literally a quote that suits Aang and Ezran from the Dragon Prince
-He caught a fan!
-In other words, Hua Cheng just said, “Mine’s bigger than yours”
-Oh no!  Stilettos!
-It really is a martial arts series
-He’s bringing the whole place down!
-They’re redirected!
-There’s Taihua
-It’s a hugeass goddang sword!
-Another sword twirl!
-That he is a beautiful idiot, that he is
-Magnets
-Dang that was beautifully animated
-Hua Cheng has a really great laugh
-A sword duel!
E Ming: We will defeat him!
-An explosion!
-Oh no loose flames!
-There’s a fire at Paradise Manor!
-Oh you are so DEAD Qingxuan
-Really fanning the flames isn’t he?
-Get the Ancient Mystical Chinese Fire Department, preferably those that can bend Fire and Water!!!
-No not the weapons!!!
-Man Hua Cheng is really going, “This is fine” after that scuffle
-Because of that misunderstanding, Xie Lian and mainly Qingxuan ended up barbecuing the armory.
-You better pay Qingxuan
-His line on debt’s gonna age like curdled milk
-Oh no his right shoulder!
-He deflected both attacks
-You can even hear E Ming’s chirps in the flashback
-Qianqiu’s been silent since the whole escape
-Back in Heaven already
-He changed his robes like a magical girl!
-It’s not a race
-Feng Xin again and he’s concerned
-Now Mu Qing came
-Now there’s a commotion
-A levitating spell
-The female turquoise robed NPC
-Ooh neat healing spell
-The blood’s all down his sleeve
-*Gasps* He hit the nail!
-Another imperial perceptor
-Also, Fang Xin sounds a lot like ‘Feng Xin’, and that’s when you start to not tell the two apart (Xie Lian ILYSM but you couldn’t have picked a more distinct and unique name???)
-Ling Wen, with answers
-It’s like the party for Bosco in Book 2 Earth, The Earth King
-There’s the survivor’s guilt
-Pei Ming is at Ling Wen’s side, no surprises
-Xie Lian’s already guilty
-Hey don’t drag XL down like that
-Now Jun Wu has entered
-That’s it?! “He’ll survive”
-The way Jun Wu erased the blood from XL’s sleeve didn’t feel like an actual healing spell to me at all.
Jun Wu’s whole dynamic with Heaven is summarized as:
Jun Wu: I love all my Officials equally! Xianle, Ling Wen, and *looks at smudged writing on hand* Pringly
Ming Yi: My name is Ming Yi your majesty!
Jun Wu:  Yes, whatever, Ming Ming
Incorrect quote source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw6lLBkXVBw
-Just like Agni Kai
-Dang, I like the way he said ‘Taihua’
-Lang Qianqiu backstory
-His mask
-He really did look like a beggar
-Qianqiu was so happy and innocent!
-Ties in with the flower and sword symbolism
-Ok who threw him that sword?
-Aw man, the way the sword reflects Xie Lian’s eyes filled with regret
-Dude don’t injure your arm, the right one’s important to people like me!
-He did another foolish action
-No not the left arm
-It’s a vow a lot of protagonists would struggle to keep in the future
-You can actually see the anguish
-He blocked it with his cultivator whisk
-Taihua is right!
-It’s official!  Xie Lian is a little fucked up!

Link Click live action drama EP1-4 thoughts
Where to watch: Bilibili (no eng subs at the moment) Bilibili English site (Releasing on Jun 22, assuming it will have subs)
After seeing the atrocious live-action adaptation of Fox Spirit Matchmaker, all hope is lost. But the Link Click drama is produced by the same team who adapted Hikaru no Go (Qi Hun), which was good. Let's see how this goes…
Tumblr media
Plot
The screenwriter said this is a prequel, but I disagree. I would describe it as taking the Link Click universe and creating a canon adjacent edition of it, an AU to the original. The outline of the story is very similar, but the finer details and premise are very different from those of the donghua.
In the donghua, the boys were already engaged in time travelling, and we learn later on that they met at university. So far, it has never been explained how they discovered their superpowers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whereas in the drama they changed the premise, Cheng Xiaoshi meets Lu Guang for the first time when Lu Guang rescues him from being beaten up by a fish vendor...interesting choice of first meet...Cheng Xiaoshi explains that he was born with a natural instinct, but it's not exactly clear what the superpower is. Qiao Ling is also unaware of Cheng Xiaoshi's superpowers.
Instead of Emma, we have Zhang Xueting, a corporate worker that face injustice. But in this case Cheng Xiaoshi doesn't take over her body, but some other guy. The relationship she has with her parents and the iconic line "Dad, mom, I miss you" is no longer in the drama. I feel like this one is a miss since the family aspect has been shifted.
Tumblr media
Then the noodle lesbians...haven't appeared, unless they moved that to a later episode???
Tumblr media
Following the donghua, the next one is Chen Xiao who went back in time to say final words to his loved ones before the earthquake. This one made me cry once again 😭
Tumblr media
Characters
Everything has changed. OOC at some moments in my opinion. Since season 3 of the anime is not released yet, I'm taking a wild guess that the drama will have an original ending as well. The donghua team appears to have no involvement with the production of the drama.
Qiao Ling is not just a landlady, she is also a journalist at her day job. By the looks of it, helping people will be executed through her reporting profession, and it seems like she will have a lot more involvement compared to the donghua.
Tumblr media
Her parents also comes into the story, her parents on the right in the screenshot below. They run a restaurant. Cheng Xiaoshi is very close to them and helps out some times.
Tumblr media
Cheng Xiaoshi is portrayed as someone with no real job, he hasn't gone to university and uses idioms incorrectly. Obviously Lu Guang couldn't have met him at uni in this universe. He's a lot more exaggerated and cartoony. I have mixed feelings about this.
Tumblr media
Because of the casting, Cheng Xiaoshi is shorter than Lu Guang. I'm sorry to all the girlies who were into canon tall Cheng Xiaoshi 🙏
Tumblr media
Lu Guang now has a back story, he has a teacher who passed away that taught him about time travelling?? He briefly mentioned he found the Cheng Xiaoshi they were looking for. Looks like they will unveil the superpowers origins in the drama.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ A glimpse of the teacher in his memory. Can you believe it's Yuen Kingdan?!?
The overall acting from the cast is fairly well done. There are several actors acting as Cheng Xiaoshi at the same time, and it still feel like it's the same person. Anyone who watched the Hikaru no Go live action will find familiarity here, as some of the actors from that production are also part of this one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall
It's okay so far, although that might change as it airs. It's difficult to digest if you treat this as a faithful adaptation (I know the none cdrama fans have been questioning why Lu Guang don't have white hair). However, if you watch it like it's an AU, and resist the urge to compare it, it's not unwatchable.
I do have one small complaint, the drama should have had a different title because now it's going to get mixed up with the donghua content when people look it up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last thing. The ending song slaps hard!

Just a fun lil sketch of Jiang Wanyin done in 30 minutes. Wanted to work on anatomy and posing to tell a story and play with Zidian. It’s like a blend of CQL!JC, donghua JC, and manhua JC.
Character is Jiāng Chéng, courtesy name Jiāng Wǎníin, from MXTX novel Módào Zǔshī (eng: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation)

I’m honestly finding it hilarious how far Bingpup is making it in the dog poll considering he doesn’t, you know, actually exist in canon. 😂
Every time someone from sv fandom mentions it in the tags I'm like nooooooo don't tell them guys! i want to see how long it will take other fandoms to notice!
so far it's been bingpup: stealth 100
Although to be fair Bingpup is like... semi-canonized, technically, because of eng special edition + official donghua merch...

so in the donghua, xie lian's eng voice actor is howard wang (same as langa hasegawa), and jun wu's japanese voice actor is takehito koyasu (same as ainosuke shindo). going insane what if mei niangqing ends up brandon johnson or kensho ono.

heya! not sure if you answered this elsewhere already, but will you be watching the tgcf donghua in the og chinese or in eng dub? I only ask because while it’s typically recommended to consume content in its original language (something I myself always recommend), I gotta say that the donghua’s english dub is FANTASTIC! The voice actor of Hua Cheng, James Cheek, actually has read the books and is the screenplay writer for season 2. Also, he makes Hua Cheng sound like he’s on his hot boy shit 24/7 😩 Of course, it’s up to you! I’ve seen many people watching both (like myself). It gives two incredibly different watching experiences, but I just gotta shout out this eng dub because I usually am always against watching dub — not this time, lol. Also, the og chinese has pretty terrible subtitles tbh, like confusing mistranslations :/
I'm giving the english dub a shot, yes! I'll try it out for 2x01 and if it's as fab as everyone says I'll stick with it. <3

genuinely the past few months ive blazed through so many novels/comics it's kind of ridiculous that I still crave more. and yet I Do</3 Like to list them all out is. yeah:
◇Purely by Accident- just finished in 2 days. cute and had some neat moments but fell flat w the side characters by the end imo
◇Fabulous Beasts comic+donghua- started and caught up with both in <a week. desperately awaiting more[strained smile]
◇Sending the Divine- caught up with all free ongoing translations (have been following for months). awaiting more and reserving judgement for when I can read the full thing in one go
◇The Governor's Illness- finished in 5 days. Enjoyed it even tho it exasperated me in places, couple of really memorable moments too
◇Have You Seen My Brother comic- caught up with 20+ chs in a day after finding the new host site for the ongoing transl (previous app host got nuked in feb-ish). eagerly awaiting more
◇Daughter of a Thousand Faces comic- read in 1 day. honestly a bit obsessed but lowkey bc wont be getting more for a While
◇Dvawtk- reread for the 4th time over a week and a half. Love of my life in novel form I'd blow up a building for more
◇Rotmhs- fully caught up with eng comic. read 350+ novel chs in 2 weeks before burning out on it and taking a still-in-effect break. Need to get back into it but enjoying just chilling on it for now
◇Qjj- full reread of unoffical fan transl over 2 weeks. gutwrenching in places fairly solid overall but minor complications w some side relationships
◇I took the Wrong Script of Qing Leng Xianjun- read in 3 days . cute and silly if a bit grating in places
◇I am the White Moonlight of the Paranoid Immortal- unintentional reread (forgot I had read it last year lol) in 4 days. Short and fun, loses steam by the end but not bad
◇After Marrying the Lord of the Underworld- read in 6 days? honestly do not remember much. had more horror elements than I tend to go for I think
◇After Being Forced to Marry the Evil Star General- read in a week? only slightly more memorable than prev but I do think I liked it more and might give it another read soon to refresh
◇After Being Betrayed, the Immortal Master Ran Away with the Demon Venerable- read in 4 days. hints of dog's blood orig plot romance were appropriately grating and from what I recall had a satisfying end and some nice chemistry between the main couple, generally fond of it I think
◇The Last Dragon in the Cultivation World- read in 5ish days? did not like it</3 mc was too childish for my taste and i didnt enjoy most of plot, overall pretty shallow
All of ^that on top of keeping up with daily webtoon releases and a very slow ongoing reread of the official tgcf novels for annotation purposes (currently on book 5) not to mention re-/new watches of dramas animations game streams etc

since its not based on anything and its a donghua i feel like flyx has just been a bit of an open secret in eng speaking areas and on one hand it makes me so sad bc like. it has its problems of course. but as the literal only wlw donghua and one of ones popular enough to get funded by bilibili and get official english subtitles and is a wuxia that focuses primarily on women i think it deserves more recognition and love!!!
