Just noticed that there's an article on Doom Delta.
The title is Huge canceled version of Doom now fully restored and available to play and other phrases associated (As in, from an official tweet) are "The abandoned, original version of Doom contained different weapons, enemies, characters and more" and "All of that material has been restored and is now fully playable".
I like that Doom Delta and any good mod gets coverage from sites that at some point would focus on Brutal Doom and mods based on memes and whatever.
But there's something about the word "restoring" that feels weird.
The mod itself technically has original content, since i'm not sure if there's actual visuals/art ever done for the characters for example (The Doom Bible had written details about them).
There were always mods about the Doom Bible but most weren't finished or as polished as Doom Delta (And some went with creative liberties as well).
"Early version" being singular is another thing because old Doom had various versions unless this is more about an overall idea based on various builds and the Doom Bible as a whole.
It's also a gameplay mod, which is not the same as a TC or even a game under a version of the engine, if it were called a "restored cancelled game" or something in that line.
And more importantly:
John Romero himself may still have Doom development assets to share but ZeniMax pretty much told him to stop.
I also vaguely recall a post about the Quake 2 remaster referring to the remastering of the models as "restoring".
Maybe it's something to do with stuff like "lost media" and "preservation" becoming more noticeable topics and a side effect is it not feeling as genuine as it should be.
People start to like the idea of it but how how you should invest in the topic itself.
Part of why people hate Limited Run games because they claim to be about preservation when their model (And the name) seem to say otherwise. And using the phrase "i also vaguely recall" yet again but didn't that Clocktower remaster/remake by WayForward had someone talk about "preservation" in a trailer despite the subject being a new version of an old game where they change the art style?

Command Clone Currency
The clones are unpaid and therefore broke. They can’t really pay each other to do things since they have no money so they go for a new currency: favors
Now, the CTs don’t really do it the same as the Commanders because they have to be specific. They can’t return a favor between battalions quickly, due to fighting/locations/schedule. They’re at the whim of the war and pick and choose their repayment time.
The Comanders are different. They trade and barter like crazy. It’s favors with a few cases of alcohol. They can trade favors they are owed to others all the time, so anyone can cash it. They can pull the strings to get their payment quick.
For example, Cody needed a save from a small squad. He knew Delta was on planet doing some mission and he needed a detour but he had no connection or favor. However, Fox (for some reason) did. Cody offered a case of spotchka and a favor Monnk owed in return for having Delta do the detour. Delta owed fox one less favor, Cody owed no favors (which is the best outcome, since Fox WILL cash it) and Fox got something on Monnk and free (very expensive) spotchka.
Few CTs knew they did it this way, and the CT captains such as Rex and Keeli had to quickly adapt to this way of thinking. Rex made the mistake of owing Bacara before anyone told him. Keeli was lucky enough to meet the SpecOps CC Blackout, who clued him in on the difference but left him high and dry when it came to implementing his knowledge. (Keeli ended up owing Blackout two mini guns for his ‘friendly advice’)
Though, when times are tough and there is little time to barter, it is common to put off the payment until after the act is completed. Though many hate doing this as the trading can become unfair. What often happens is the party in need already has a deal prepared and states their need and their payment, it is hardly ever contested (however the helper may tack on another fee which is accepted or denied).
For example, Doom needed backup from Jet’s flame troopers. He quickly called, stated his need, and his payment of a case of charges. Jet had found the payment (though correct in price, unpractical for his squad) and changed it to half a case of fuel (easier for Doom to get a hold of and just as useful as charges to a Demolition team). Doom accepted the terms and Jet’s squad arrived right on time.
Though the bartering is mostly physical, many deal in the intangible. Perfect examples are all of the Coruscant Guard and the Special Operations teams. These are the only two groups who has everyone (including CT shinies) in on this system. They have the least to offer when it comes to normal ops, after all what GAR commander needs to know where a random Senator is going to be at what time or who slept with who. However, this trading info is perfect for the Guard who constantly works with/against (yay embezzlement and blackmail) these same Senators and for the SpecOps who need to know political climates and interpersonal relationships for recon and assassinations.
Most trading goes on between those two, and their prices are often higher since the missions are higher stake. Often Commando Squads are up for bids (who doesn’t want a four man 100% mission completion rate squad in their pocket), blackmail on natborn officers, republic secrets, senators schedules, crime syndicates favor and areas of interest, etc.
For the Guard, their trading goes further. They work with crime syndicates to keep it off the streets while keeping profit up. Those who do not work with them, go down. They’ve gain control of the lower 2000 levels through this and those who do not conform are forced to by the Guard or the citizens of the lower levels who don’t want to deal with the Guard, (peer pressure and bullying at its finest.)
The commanders learned this from watching the Cuy’val Dar, who would often trade on Kamino. The Alphas picked it up and used it but the CCs truly made it valuable beyond belief. The trainers traded for free shifts and booze, the CCs traded for mission successes and heavy artillery.
Many CTs attempt to learn how this system works. However, as few know it’s different, even fewer see the affects; those that do, know well enough to leave it be.
Despite there being no real difference in intelligence between the CCs and CTs, witnessing the speed and weight of the trades, makes even the Jedi’s head spin.
The Padawans are one of the few outsiders to see it in action. They do not really like it, but many pick it up for lesser trades (help with this paper or answers for this homework). Cal Kestis surprisingly picks it up the best. He’s the youngest so very impressionable, eager to learn, his CC Commander Steel, is very good at it, and Steel is possibly the only one to teach their General’s Padawan.
Steel sees that Cal isn’t going to be on the field much (Steel agrees with this and makes sure he stays on the Venator). So, if Cal ever needs help, he knows how to get it. Steel has made him be present for several trades and even made him come up with theoretical ones. Cal becomes very good at it, but is unable to flex his skills much due to the other Padawans unable to match his speed or skill. They are several years older, see it as in-Jedi like or are bad at it (or their Captains are bad at it and can’t teach them well), their concept of value is off (Jedi don’t often put a price on things and those that do have a habit of underselling due to being nice), and/or they do not know the range of what can be traded.
It’s very personal, with different Commanders wanting different things. Knowing who wants what can often make the payment cheaper for the offering party.
For example, the Marines often need heavy snow gear and blankets. So, offering a box of heating blankets in return for a case of bacta and blaster packs. This is a much better deal than offering a case of mini guns for the bacta and blaster packs. In the second case, Bacara may say no the mini guns or want a case of something else along with the mini guns.

i want Gaster to canonically kind of suck. good intentions. but he goes about it in all the wrong ways, or ways that end up hurting someone else. the way he talks about our creation at the vessel segment makes me think he's genuinely not some mustache-twirling villain. he wants to make things right, despite the likely unforeseen consequences of his actions. creating a whole other world inside this one, where it's inhabitants are heavily reliant on those they see as higher beings and have little autonomy. breaking the minds of at least 7 of those beings that would end up becoming secret bosses. potentially having a part in taking a child's autonomy away, for the sake of saving the world. even possibly leaving a different child, in the image of his boss' kid from another world; who seems to hardly value himself or have much of an identity beyond just being a "guide" for the heroes he's so eager to please when we first meet him. he's striving to fix the future of the fucked up little reality he made, but ends up harming those inside anyways, regardless of if he means to, and i kind of hope it's a recurring theme.

June of Doom Day 1: “Help me.” | Failed Escape | On the Run | Fetal Position |
First and foremost, apologies to the @juneofdoom creators and mods. Some of my stories, like this first one, won't be very doomish. But since I used your prompts and had a lot of fun with them, I want to give credit where credit is due. Hope you don't mind, I tend to take whumpy prompts and make them light hearted.
Summary: Natasha is amused by Clint as the bait in a honeypot mission…until she isn’t. No warnings, no real doom, sorry.
excerpt:
“Help me.” Clint mouthed, in perfect Portuguese from across the room.
A beautiful, yet inebriated, blonde socialite clung to his side, getting bright pink lipstick on the collar of his white button down shirt.
Natasha felt sorry for him.
Almost.
Smiling, she raised her wine glass. His nostrils flared and she had to bite her lip not laugh out loud. The charity event was near its end and, thankfully, many of the other patrons were drunk and not paying attention to Clint or his companion in her too little black dress.
He volunteered for this, practically leapt at the chance to play bait in the latest honeypot mission. She knew Clint had good intentions. He hated that she was always the one leered at and groped. But now, he was openly regretting his decision.

June of Doom Day 29
29. “It’s really not that big of a deal.”
| Bruises | Secret | Acceptance |
TW: dolls, hypothermia, major character death
A/N: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
~
"So... it's really not that big of deal, laddie. But... no one is allowed to know, okay?"
Montgomery Scott felt very agitated as he led his wee co-worker down into the basement of the outpost. He had found the secret door by accident, when he had stumbled drunk into a huge shelf and somehow had activated a hidden mechanism.
Never had he expected to find such a huge secret on Delta Vega. He had thought of the planet to be his punishment, when actually it was a gift.
Keenser followed him without a word. Well... of course without a word. After all, the lad wasn't very talkative. But maybe that would change as soon as he saw what Scott had found in the basement.
Like he had said, it wasn't really a big deal, but he still felt kinda proud of his discovery.
When they reached the dark room, Scott couldn't help but ask his Roylan friend if he was ready. He got a grunt in response.
"Okay, okay. Three... two... one... bam!"
The Scotsman switched the light on and as soon as he looked at his surroundings, his smile faded.
"What the-"
Keenser blinked a few times, before he looked up at the human. He grunted again in a questioning way.
"It... it was right here! Where is it?"
He had seen it! How could it have disappeared just like that?!
"What?"
Oh, Keenser had found his voice apparently. He eyed the empty room once more, as if he'd find something hidden anywhere.
"The doll!"
At that, Keenser just cackled quietly.
"Doll?"
Scotty, who had searched the room over and over again, furiously turned around to look at him.
"Aye! It... it was a life-sized doll of a human being! Someone must have hidden it down here as a joke or something!"
It had sat in a corner of the room. Scotty had even touched its body which was made of porcelain. It had been there!
"Imagining things," Keenser just said, shaking his head.
"Nae! I'm not! I'm not imagining things. It was right there!"
He pointed at the now empty corner. A doll couldn't just vanish like that, could it?
Keenser still didn't believe him. He kept on laughing as he left the room, leaving behind a flabbergasted Scott.
"It was here..."
++++++
It drove the engineer nuts. For the next three or four days, all he could think about was that doll.
Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw it in front of him.
Pale skin. Black hair. Blue eyes. It had looked just so pretty. And he really wanted to see it again.
Almost by themselves, his feet carried him down to the basement again one night.
He had to take another look. He had to see that pretty face once more.
However, Scotty was disappointed. The room was still empty.
He ran a hand through his hair. It was impossible! It was just crazy! It had to be somewhere!
The Scotsman was just about to leave again, when he saw something strange from the corner of his eyes. It looked like... light.
Slowly, he walked over to where the light was coming from. The glow came out from behind a cabinet. With all his strength, Scott pushed the piece of furniture aside and he couldn't believe what he saw.
There was a tunnel behind it!
As if in trance, the Scotsman moved through the tunnel. He knew what was waiting for him at the end of it.
He knew that it was the most gorgeous thing he'd ever seen. And he was right.
The doll.
It was standing right there in the light, its arms outstretched. There was a bright smile on its face.
As the doll's arms wrapped around him and they started to dance, Scotty felt like he was flying.
He was free! He was as happy as he'd ever been.
He didn't feel the snow beneath his bare feet. He didn't feel the cold starting to swallow him whole.
All he could feel was the warmth of the doll's body pressed against him. It felt like... heaven.
++++++++
When Lt. Keenser found his co-worker Montgomery Scott outside the outpost in the morning, frozen to death, he didn't understand how the man had ended up out there. It would forever stay a secret.

delta green scenario, or some other weird horror game, where you are sent in to investigate the mysterious disappearance of some famed writer that is believed to have ties with idk a nyarlathotep cult or something or other, but upon searching their estate, there is no evidence and it seems as if they jsut simply disappeared while working at their desk. a successful search roll reveals a piece of paper that when read makes you do a maybe a Pow roll or a Int roll. on failure, your agent ceases to exist and pops out of reality. on a success, you realize the paper was likely the last thing the writer wrote before seemingly popping out of existence.

Bonnacons Of Doom at Quarry. Nikon F65. Ilford Delta 3200.
When I shoot live bands with my Nikon F65 I tens to use aperture priority and stay at f1.8. Most of the time this works well. However when I went to see the Bonnacons Of Doom at Quarry last year the light proved insufficient. The meter was setting the shutter speed to between 30th and 20th of a second and this resulted in some blurry shots.

OH I realised today that I never actually explained the “Ulysses was originally a rabbit” joke… so here’s that explanation/behind the scenes on his character creation lol-
When I was first invited to join Fable as a cast member and create my own character for the world, I spent some time spitballing ideas. All the new cast were given a lot of wiggle room to build our little guys, and so I came up with 3 concept character pitches, which each could have explored different areas of the server’s lore that we hadn’t gotten a huge glimpse into in the first 2 seasons:
Character #1 was the aforementioned rabbit, named Tamlin! Although maybe rabbit isn’t quite accurate, he was a Jackalope hybrid. He was the most developed of the pitches I came up with, and I think I described him as “Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit meets Celtic Mythology/the Fae”. He would have been more Nature-Fam (specifically c!Jamie) adjacent, being a rabbit hybrid created by Deltavera, as a sort of assistant/companion. Narratively he functioned almost as a foil to c!Ven, being an assistant to Delta rather than Fable. He would have been driven mad by Fable to some extent after Delta’s death (we hadn’t decided on how exactly, at that point in time) and leaned hard into the Wonderland tea/madness/whimsical aspect. His purpose story-wise would have been to help c!Jamie learn about Deltavera over time, both of them unlocking pieces of the past together in scattered fragments, ending with Tamlin getting all of his memories back.
Character #2 was a piglin, I think? Or at the very least some kind of Nether Hybrid. They would have been a Nether soldier that fully deserted both sides of the war, and was living undercover in the Overworld as a fugitive while trying to fend off zombification. His working name was “Asmodius” or “Azzy”, and a lot of his characterisation and the idea of his family coming with him was eventually folded directly into the Tuskly’s as NPC’s!
Character #3 was an unnamed Telchin. He was originally solely a warrior, inspired by the Iliad, rather than the Odyssey, specifically Prince Hector of Troy. A soldier who had spent decades fighting and being hardened and calloused only to defend a city that was always doomed to fall. I didn’t want to interfere with the scientist side of the Telchin, since that was very much Metta and Ocie’s thing, so I intentionally tried to steer clear of that, and lean hard into the war-time aspect of the telchin, and the idea of the rest of society collapsing while the scientists worked on the projects.
In the end, there was a bunch of reasons the characters didn’t pan out.
Tamlin was ultimately just not narratively necessary? c!Jamie could find out most of those things on his own, and as Deltavera was developed into the more lovable “I only talk to animals” loner, it felt weird for him to have an assistant. Logistically it would also have been difficult for me to act as both Tamlin and Delta in any cutscenes lmao. As much as I liked the wacky Mad Hatter rabbit hybrid vibes, it also made him overlap just a little too much with what c!Haley had become. Certain elements were reused for Ulysses though, like the fragmented memories, and the “tea obsession” was changed to the “kelp obsession” at the beginning of the season, etc.
Asmodius just wasn’t as developed as a character, and I didn’t think he could hold water for the whole season. Not to mention Athena and Ocie were both expanding on the Nether aspect of the world though c!Athena and Oscar’s backstory, and I didn’t think I was bringing anything new enough that fully justified his existence as a character beyond the initial concept (hence why it was given to the Tuskly’s, specifically Wilkins, since at the time there was only ever going to be him as the only Tuskly).
I actually think it was Heyhay that approached me about expanding the Telchin idea? Maybe? It was a while ago now. I was really excited to be given the invite to take part in the established scientist/project lore that had been developed in s2, because it was something they’d really been building up, basically with the pitch of “hey… you like horror stuff right? *points at Brink* We have some horrors to witness” lol. I got to really go all in on the Frankenstein meets Greek Mythology angle, and finding a way to transition someone from a soldier to a scientist was what led to the medic/doctor angle, and examining what drives a once person to do the things Ulysses did, and experiment on a god they worshipped. The letter of regret about Project Leviathan was the first time I really got a feel for writing Ulysses as a character, and I instantly became very attached. Like, as much as the other ideas for him would have been fun, I would not trade the character he became and the development of him behind the scenes for the world, he is the best character outcome I could have hoped for when joining Fable ✨
