Thanks everyone to a wonderful inaugural Critmas Wishing Tree! You all managed to create fifty-eight prompts, with twenty-nine works by eighteen creators. Eight creators managed more than one work: five managed two, and three managed to fill three prompts! Twenty-six relationships were depicted (a lot of them had at least one Liam O'Brien character), and works ranged from general to explicit.

The final word count? 64,583 (and two fancomic panels).

Welcome! My name's Dorian, and my blog is 18+ only. I'm primarily a pre-Hellenic to Mycenaean/Minoan polytheist, but loosely include the Archaic era in my worship, and I'm a Sumerian and Irish polytheist. I am a devotee of Hermes, Peitho, and the Kharites. I worship Athene, Rheia (Mater Theia), Hera, Leto, Maia, the Pleiades & Hyades, Okeanos, Tethys, the Okeanids, the Nereids, the Nymphai as a whole, Hemera, Aphrodite, Artemis, Hekate, Hestia, Demeter, Diwia, Dionysos, Persephone, Poseidon, the Horai, Selene, Hāwélios (sun goddess, possibly Helen), Eos, the Erinyes, Mnemosyne, Themis, Gaia, An Callieach, Grian, Mebd Lethderg, Ereshkigal, and Inanna. I honor Zeus, Apollon, Hephaistos, Ares, the Mousai, and many more gods across the pantheons I worship. Penthesileia, the Dioskouroi, the Amazons (as a whole), and Perseus are a part of the heroes I honor.

My worship is complicated, as I rely on archaeology, and as close to a yes as I can get from scholars studying the eras the gods in my life exist in, with sources backing it. Separating (Minoan/Mycenaean/pre-Hellenic) gods into realms and limits of what they do or rule over isn't a part of my praxis, even more so than what is found in Hellenic polytheism. My worship mainly revolves around nature, writing, space/stars, and knowledge as the most important fixtures. Hermes is the Lord of the Dead and Death, Demeter & Persephone are also Rulers of the Underworld, as well as Poseidon, Hekate, Maia, and Dionysos are heavily involved in the underworld, where the answer is yes to who's what. Hera, Poseidon, and Rheia are leaders in their (original) pantheons. Athene, Hermes, and Hestia are all primary home gods, while Athene leans more heavily into defending/protection than being war-centric. Aphrodite is Cyprus' mother goddess (for me), and Artemis is not a maiden goddess in my worship. Finally, caves and trees are very important in my practice.

Finally, I am a godspouse to Hermes and godpartner to Artemis and Aphrodite, as well as potentially a fourth that’ll never be mentioned here due to both of our wishes. All I ask is that this last part is respected as I’m an adult and it’s not hurting anyone, if I wanted your criticism and distaste for it, I will ask at a later date for just that.

Rook and Harding enter the Cobbled Swan. It seems empty.

Harding: Why did Morrigan want to meet in Minrathous? Isn't she helping the Veil Jumpers in Arlathan?

Morrigan walks up.

Morrigan: Indeed, although she requires a few days to set events in motion.

Morrigan: Indeed. But today, we have a guest, and [they] needed the anonymity that only a city provides.

The Inquisitor joins them.

Harding: Well, look who it is!

Inquisitor: Good to see you, Lace.

Harding: Rook, you remember how Varric and I served the Inquisition?

Harding: Well, this is Inquisitor [Adaar/Cadash/Lavellan/Trevelyan]. The [person] who led us all.

Dialogue options:

Affable (Inquisitor Adaar): “Adaar”? Like adaari? [1]

1 - Affable: “Adaar”? Like adaari? Rook: Your surname is "Adaar." We have a Qunari on the team who breathes fire, and the Qunari call her an adaari. Inquisitor: I've earned my share of rumors, but no one has ever said I breathed fire. Harding mentioned Taash, though. I'd love to meet her when matters are less pressing. Morrigan: When matters are less pressing, indeed. [8]

2 - Affable: Trevelyan is a noble name. Rook: Trevelyan. Isn't that the name of a noble family down in the South? Inquisitor: Yes. I remember the days before the Inquisition, when Trevelyan family politics were the most complicated part of my life. Simpler times. Morrigan: I fear that simpler times are like to remain a memory for now. [8]

3 - Affable: Pleased to meet you. Rook: It's an honor to meet you. Inquisitor: Relax. I won't be trying to arrest you like the First Warden. Rook: You heard about that? Inquisitor: Dorian Pavus is an old friend. He filled me in. Morrigan: Indeed. You have had many eyes upon you, Rook. [8]

4 - Sarcastic: Harding knows everyone. Rook: How many famous people do you know, Harding? Should I expect the Divine to show up? Harding: She also served in the Inquisition, but we didn't talk much. [8]

5 - Stoic: Why are you here? Rook: You here to help? Or are you taking over? Inquisitor: I'm not taking over. Solas fooled the Inquisition. He fooled me. Your team stopped him… and your team is dealing with the gods that escaped. Rook: So you've heard about them? [8]

6 - Dwarf Rook: This is a lot of dwarves. Rook: So mages break the world, and it's up to a bunch of dwarves to fix it, huh? Inquisitor: (Laughs) It's enough to make you wish our ancestors never came up to the surface. Speaking of which, Harding, when matters are less pressing, I'd love to see this new magic of yours. Morrigan: When matters are less pressing, indeed. [8]

7 - Elf Rook: I greet you. Rook: Andaran atish'an.

Veil Jumper Rook: Inquisitor: Aneth ara. Harding told me you're with the Veil Jumpers. Morrigan: As did I. [8]

Non-Veil Jumper Rook: Inquisitor: Aneth ara. I wish we could be meeting without our gods threatening to blight the world. Morrigan: A blight that spreads wider with each passing heartbeat. [8]

8 - Scene continues.

Inquisitor: Morrigan and Harding have told me about what you've accomplished since taking over for Varric. You've put together an impressive team, and you've got the best chance—maybe the only chance—to stop Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain.

Dialogue options:

Stoic: This is on you. [10] -Harding Disapproves

Afraid: I don’t know if I can. [11]

9 - Affable: You can count on me. Rook: I won't let you down. Inquisitor: Don't worry about me. Worry about the people you've recruited, and about the people depending on you.

Elf Rook: Inquisitor: I'm asking you to take down a pair of gods. You're not going to be able to do that if you're worried about my approval. But if you listen to your friends and remember the people you're fighting for, you'll get through this. Rook: We've got the makings of a good team, I think. We'll do our best. [12]

Non-elf Rook: I only sealed the Breach because I had people like Cassandra, Leliana, and Cullen with me from the start. Without Dorian's magic and Josephine's diplomacy, we never would've come together to stop Corypheus.

10 - Stoic: This is on you. Rook: Sounds like I'm cleaning up your mess. Harding: Rook. Inquisitor: No, Harding. This is my mess. Harding: The Inquisition sealed the Breach and stopped Corypheus! We saved the world! Inquisitor: We also left southern Thedas vulnerable to Qunari invasion, as the Exalted Council showed. Harding: But the Inquisition didn't start the mage rebellion. We didn't start any of this. Inquisitor: We did our best, but our best had consequences.

Inquisition disbanded Inquisitor: When those consequences became apparent, I disbanded the Inquisition rather than let it turn into something someone else had to stop.

Inquisition turned into arm of the Chantry Inquisitor: When those consequences became apparent, I turned the Inquisition over to the Chantry rather than create even bigger political problems.

Inquisitor: Too many leaders claim credit while avoiding responsibility. I won't be one of them. So, Rook… I am asking you to help me clean up my mess. Rook: Okay. [12]

11 - Afraid: I don’t know if I can. Rook: We've been doing what we can, but I'll be honest: Right now, it feels like we're in over our heads. Inquisitor: You've already faced setbacks. You'll face more. Your actions will have consequences.

Saved Minrathous Harding: Have you seen the blight all over Treviso? We know all about consequences. Morrigan: Such thinking is a trap you can ill afford. Treviso was blighted because of Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. But Minrathous was saved because of you.

Saved Treviso: Harding: Did you see what happened to the Viper? We know all about consequences. Morrigan: Such thinking is a trap you can ill afford. The Viper was blighted because of Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. But the city of Treviso was saved because of you.

Inquisitor: I wasn't ready to become the Inquisitor. I wasn't ready to have to choose between helping templars or mages, or decide the fate of every Grey Warden in southern Thedas.

Harding: It's that bad?

Morrigan: If not for the Inquisitor, the South would have collapsed completely. [They have] not been idle while you assembled your team.

14 - Investigate: Tell me more about the South. Rook: I thought the gods were mostly active up here. It's really that bad in the South? Morrigan: Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain have indeed restricted their activities to the North. But the forces they deployed to the South—the strange new darkspawn—have spread fear and corruption greater than any Blight in history. Inquisitor: Darkspawn have cut through the center of Orlais. Val Royeaux and Halamshiral are barely holding out. Ferelden would have fallen already if not for help from Orzammar. With Denerim lost, the Fereldans are holding the line at Redcliffe. Harding: Thank you.

Inquisition Disbanded: Inquisitor: The Inquisition might be gone, but my name still carries some weight. I've used it to get people working together where they can.

Inquisition turned into arm of the Chantry: Inquisitor: The Inquisition might just be an arm of the Chantry now, but we've still done our part to get people to fight this threat together.

Inquisitor: Again, the South is my problem, not yours, Rook. You stop the gods, and I'll make sure the rest of Thedas doesn't fall to the blight. [Back to 13]

15 - Investigate: How are you here? Rook: If the South is in such turmoil, why come up here just to talk? And how did you get here so fast? Morrigan: Did you think you were the only one to unlock the secrets of the eluvians? Harding: Morrigan helped the Inquisition use the eluvians to travel. Morrigan: While I lack the Dread Wolf's Vi'Revas, I may still scurry between the walls of this world to be where I might do the most good. The Inquisitor asked to meet you, and I thought it might help you to meet [them]. [Back to 13]

16 - I need your connections. Rook: I've been having trouble getting people in authority to listen to us. If you help with some of your political strength… Inquisitor: My political strength? Tevinter hates me. The Venatori helped make sure of that. And while I have a few friends in the Wardens, their leadership hasn't much cared for me since we clashed at Adamant Fortress. [19]

17 - I need your spies. Rook: What I really need right now is information. If you have anyone who can help…

Dorian romanced: Inquisitor: I'm sorry. I'll be needed elsewhere. [19]

Dorian not romanced Inquisitor: I’m sorry. The only reliable sources of information I have up here are Morrigan, Dorian, and Harding. Rook: All of whom are already helping us. I understand. [19]

18 - I need an army. Rook: I have a team, but not much in the way of forces. If there's any military support you can spare… Inquisitor: I'm sorry. Our forces in the South are stretched thin already. And I'm afraid the Grey Warden leadership doesn't think much more highly of me than they do of you. [19]

19 - Scene continues.

Morrigan: The Inquisitor did not come all this way to leave you with empty words, however. [They] brought something no one else could.

Morrigan gestures to a wolf statuette on the counter.

Have not found any statuettes: Harding: A wolf statuette. Something to do with Solas?

Have found statuettes: Harding: A wolf statuette. We've found others like it in the Crossroads. Where'd you find yours?

Inquisitor: I found it right around the time Solas's ritual failed, when he was pulled into the Fade. We've examined the magic, and it's tied to the Veil. To him. Somehow.

Morrigan: Solas is ancient, and his magic is part of him in a way far beyond that of mortals. I suggest you take it to the Crossroads and see if something in the Lighthouse calls to it. Perhaps it will yield some insight into your new "ally."

Dialogue options:

Good. I don’t trust him. [22]

20 - Solas is trapped. Rook: Solas is trapped in the Fade. He's not my biggest concern at the moment. Morrigan: Solas is trapped in your dreams, and while he cannot match Elgar'nan or Ghilan'nain in strength, he is far more cunning. He is the Dread Wolf. He led a rebellion that lasted centuries. How many times do you think the gods thought him trapped and helpless? [23]

21 - Solas is helping. Rook: Right now, Solas is giving us the information we need to track down the gods. Morrigan: Yes. He is a vital source of information and advice, just as he was to the Inquisition before. He is the Dread Wolf. He led a rebellion that lasted centuries. How many alliances do you think he has made and broken? [23]

22 - Good. I don’t trust him. Rook: I appreciate it. Solas has been helpful while he's trapped in the Fade… But anything that can help me get inside his head will help counter him getting inside mine. Morrigan: Wisely spoken. Solas rarely lies directly, but he finds ways to weave the truth into a noose you find yourself wearing. [23]

23 - Scene continues.

Romanced Solas: Inquisitor: Solas was… important to me. If this statuette helps you understand him, if it uncovers something that… Honestly, I don't know. I wish I did. But this feels like a part of him, and whatever he and I once were… I think… I hope… it might help you.

Vowed to save Solas: Inquisitor: I considered Solas a friend. I'd hoped convince him to see reason. It's too late for that now, but still… if this can give you some insight, help you understand him… Whatever it turns out to be, I hope that it helps.

Vowed to stop Solas: Inquisitor: Morrigan is right: Solas is dangerous. Anything that gives us some insight into his plans… He fooled us all before, and the whole world very nearly paid the price for it.

Morrigan: We should go, Inquisitor. The armies in the South need you.

Inquisitor: Right. Harding, stay sharp. You're my eyes in the North.

Harding: Always, Inquisitor.

Inquisitor: Rook, good luck. If I come across anything else that can help, you'll be the first to know.

Rook: Thank you.

Thank you for the prompt!! This is another addition to my post-Trespasser/pre-Veilguard stories for Sene Lavellan. Solas is getting closer, every day. Finally, she encounters him in the Fade...

Incredulous

Sene tip-toed past the river bank, which was frozen into a crust. She wore winter furs. She had not hunted them herself. In fact, they had been gifts from Dorian. Tall, white arctic bears. He'd commissioned them himself and sent them as a gift via courier. To My Redheaded Friend, he'd written on a piece of heavy parchment. These furs were crafted by the finest trapper in all of Tevinter. I have a feeling they will go splendidly with your magnificent hair. May they keep you warm until next I see you. Which had better be soon. I'm very bored. Yours, Dorian.

It was cold, a dead season in the Frostbacks, and she was just outside of Haven, had hiked up the mountain over the past two days. Why had she come here? She didn't know. She just felt like it. She set up camp near the old gates, in the barracks where Thom Rainier had used to sleep. She lit a fire in the hearth, and it was enough to warm her. There were woods nearby, which had overgrown in the Inquisition's absence with coniferous trees, monsters that could blot out the sky. It was where she later planned to hunt her supper, but not now. For now, she was exhausted.

She had come back to Haven twice before, once with Abelas, right at the beginning of their love, when he was curious, and he wanted relics of her old life without him, and once with Ameridan, who had been simply bored, and who she hadn't seen now in more than four months. Their last dalliance had been at the Winter Palace. Along with the Commander and Josephine with Thom, hey had attended a ball there at the behest of Empress Celene who found their coupling curious. They boarded together in a great room at the corner of the castle on a high floor, and they enjoyed the view as well as the wine, one another's company, and they fucked merrily as they had many times over the years prior. On again, off again. When they said goodbye, something about it felt definitive this time. He was headed to the Anderfels. What's there? she had asked him. He had kissed her, charming and silver, and he said, I don't know, lethal'lan. Much hardship, I'm sure. And they smiled.

She could have asked to go with him. He would have taken her, but he hadn't asked, and it wasn't what she wanted to do anyway. So instead, she went home to her clan's farm in the Free Marches. She stayed there for two months, helping her father organize the archives and helping her her mother bottle the wine, and then she went back to Skyhold to visit with Sera and Dagna, and to take care of some business with the Inquisition. Now she was alone, here in Haven, thinking about the past. She still loved this place. She warmed her hands to the fire and drank some brandy from a leather flask. She thought quite a bit about Ameridan, and how she could have loved him. It was a nice fantasy, and she missed him a little, but Ameridan was very far gone in some ways. Even beyond the Anderfels. No matter how they carried on, he seemed to have no intention of falling in love with her or anyone else. His heart was still stitched to Telana's, across centuries. Sene didn't blame him. She understood him. In this way, she knew it would never work.

A little while later after the sun went down over the mountain, Sene went outside to go hunting in the woods. The snow was crunchy. She made a habit of stepping into animal tracks and depressions left by logs and other things. It dampened her footsteps. She made quick work of a wild turkey, which took her no more than twenty minutes to track and to shoot. She'd eat what she could and cure the rest. With the bird tied off at the feet, hanging over her shoulder, she began to head homeward. She could hear the call of the owl and as the moon rose, the howling of one solemn wolf, very nearby. She stopped, standing perfectly still on the trail. She set down the turkey and took her bow off her back and then she nocked a single arrow. There was a cold wind, and with it the sounds of haunted whispers, which raised the hairs on the back of her neck, and suddenly, she knew she wasn't alone. She spun around with her arrow aimed high, right at the throat.

It was Solas.

She dropped the bow immediately. He was just standing there, wearing simple garments. A dark jacket with a high collar, and he had his hands in his pockets. He watched her, pensive and very concerned. He looked so good. She nearly dropped to her knees. But she didn't. She looked around instead, at the pines and the snow, hearing the animal sounds.

"Are you real?" she said to him. "Or is this a dream?"

"It is a dream," said Solas.

"It feels so real."

"I am near," he said. "That is why."

"You're near?" she said. "Where are you?"

"Don't worry about it, Sene."

"Why not?"

"Soon, it will be time. But not yet."

"Thom gave me your letter," she said. She pulled the folded piece of parchment from the satchel at her hip. She showed it to him. "In the Hinterlands, one month ago. You sent it from Tevinter?"

"I am grateful to Thom," said Solas. "I felt you here, at Haven. I wanted to see you. I don't know what you've heard, about the ritual, and Tevinter."

"In the letter, you said you still love me. Is that true?"

Solas hardened his jaw. He still did not remove his hands from his pockets. "It is always true."

She took a step closer to him. "It feels different now. I can sense it, too. How close."

"If this could be over," he said, "and if I came back—"

"I am not who I used to be," she interrupted. The snow began to fall. Little snowflakes clinging to his jacket, his broad shoulders. She was close enough to touch him, but she didn't.

"I know that," he said. "I know everything, vhenan."

"Everything?" she said. This made her nervous. She didn't know why. It wasn't like her. They'd met in the Fade before, many times since he'd gone. At first, she wanted to kill him, but over time, that changed. As she changed. She should have known. "What do you know."

He took a deep breath and looked down at his boots. He just looked like a man there. He didn't look like a god. "I know about Abelas," he said. "And Ameridan. When I learned Ameridan was alive, I was shocked, naturally. I had heard of your valor in the Frostback Basin. You and Abelas. I had to see the man for myself, so I went in the Fade. I saw him at a tavern. And with him, I saw you. Laughing, with your great big hair. Imagine my surprise." He smiled, in earnest.

She didn't feel embarrassed, but she did feel guilty. She knew this was irrational. "Why didn't you say anything? I had seen you in Fade."

"It didn't matter. It's your life, not mine. I couldn't give you what you needed."

"I wasn't trying to hurt you," she said. "It was never about you, with either of them. I just wanted to feel like a person."

"It's been ten years, vhenan," he said, as if hanging on for his dear life. "I have no claim over you anymore."

"I hated you for so long," said Sene.

"I remember."

"Abelas felt the brunt of that. Ameridan, in some ways, he is so much like me. He's helped me figure out the truth."

"What is the truth?"

"That I still love you," she said, holding out the letter to him. He took it, like he was compelled to. Their hands did not touch.

"You do?"

"I can't stop. It is my destiny. For this, Ameridan and I can never be together, at least not seriously. He loves a dead dreamer, same as me."

"I am not dead, vhenan."

"You might as well be," she said, shaking her head. She felt cold and filled with her regular and ongoing winter exhaustion without him. "You are not here. We meet only in dreams. You might as well be a ghost."

Now, he took his hands out of his pockets. He was wearing dark gloves, which he removed and dropped to the earth. Then he took one step closer, and he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I have not come back, because I live in fear that you will not see me. I left you. I left us both behind that day. When I saw you again, years later, and you learned the truth, it was so...fraught. We have never discussed it."

"That is the past," she said. "I know who you are."

"I used to have a reason, Sene, but now that reason is...just gone. There is still much to be done, but I no longer need to be alone. It has been so long. I thought perhaps you had moved on. I know it sounds cliche, but I just wanted you to be happy."

"I am," she said. "I'm fine. I am not like other people, Solas, but I am not alone. I have friends, and it's taken me many years, but I'm fine. I don't know what else to say."

"You are not in love with Ameridan?"

"No," said Sene. "Though I thought about it."

He smirked, perhaps stunned. "You thought about it?"

"What it might be like, yes. I even wanted it, at one point. I believe it's over now, but we were on and off for many years."

She felt a shaking in her heart. He was still touching her neck, right where it met her jaw. He seemed to be studying the exact same spot of her skin. She wanted badly to defy him, but what was the point?

"It feels like you're here," she said. They could see their breath. "Are you sure you're not here?"

He kissed her, calmly. It seemed to last forever, like the first time. The same place. But it was much less cold then, and now, they were older. When they parted, she became a puddle in the frozen earth.

"Solas—"

"When you awaken," said Solas, "it will not be long. Vhenan." He smiled wearily and snapped his fingers once.

She woke up in the barracks, which she had never left. She had curled into her furs beside the lit hearth and fallen asleep. Now, she looked down at her freckled right arm and her strange left arm, which still itched from time to time, and still glowed with the old restorative magics wrought by Dorian and Dagna. She touched the place on her neck that Solas had touched and she touched her fingers to her lips. She got to her feet. She went outside where it was freezing, not wearing her furs, wearing only her cotton under things, and she gazed up at the moon, which was full as an eye, and then into the mouth of the haunted woods. She was incredulous.

"What the fuck," she whispered.
