People are talking about how fasting is bad, but no one is banning fast food. Logically and anatomically, fasting is part of ancient practice; all religions practice it. Our ancestors used to hunt ; the only thing that hasn't changed is our primal brain. That is why it is so hard to do the diet, because when food is in front of us our primal primal hunter brain is activated. Hence, fasting becomes a tool to hold off; if not, everyone will be obese eventually. if we rely on the big food industry, we are doomed. Weight loss, better blood sugar regulation, heart health, cognitive function, and cancer prevention are just a few of the possible health advantages of fasting. Fasting can be beneficial to your health when combined with a well-balanced diet and active lifestyle. We have always been told since we’re kids that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and, what they usually make us eat is a chocolate cereal and orange juice every day, and that is healthy? Honestly, what is the important is what kind of food we consume first any time of the day. When we eat cereal and pair it with orange juice which we think is health that is we when we got it wrong. Every orange juice that we can buy in the market is never fresh and can be consider as healthy, it all preserve with sugar. Here are they different types or kinds of fasting;
TIME-RESTRICTED FEEDING: Restrict your eating to 10 hours a day.
THE 16/8 PLAN: Eat during an eight-hour window, and fast for the rest of the day.
THE 12-6 PLAN: Eat only between noon and 6 p.m.
WARRIOR DIET: To mimic the eating habits of warriors in history, fast for 20 hours during the day, and consume any foods in a four-hour window.
ONE MEAL A DAY (OMAD) DIET: Eat a large meal in a one-hour window, and fast for the rest of the day. You can drink calorie-free drinks (e.g., black coffee, water) the other 23 hours.
THE 5-2 PLAN: Fast two nonconsecutive days of the week, and eat healthy on the other five days.
ALTERNATE-DAY FASTING: Fast every other day, and eat healthy on the in-between days.

Welcome to my Blog!
Hi my name is Dustin Yngreso, I am so glad you have taken the time stop by my blog to see what it’s all about!  In a nut shell my blogs purpose is to somewhat guide you through what it is like to be on a ketogenic diet.  I will be sharing with you my experience being on keto myself, as well as some tips, and other individual experiences as well! Let get right into it!
The big question is “what is Keto?!?!”
Well the word keto is short for “ketogenic”. This diet is when you eat a higher amount of fat and your body adapts to using your fat storage for fuel instead of carbohydrates. When your body adjusts to this method you slip into “Ketosis”.  
“Why go on keto?!?”
An article written by Dr. Eric Berg in February 2017, states that there are 7 benefits to being on a ketogenic diet which are:
1.       Using your own fat for fuel
2.       Produces the most weight loss of any diet (Targets belly fat)
3.       Aid in having exceptional memory
4.       Improves your mood
5.       Get rid of cravings and hunger
6.       Fixes your metabolism
7.       And aids in fixing issues with insulin.
Although there are only 7 that Dr. Berg mentions, he has many more insights on keto that you can look into on his website at www.drberg.com.
“Why did I choose to go on Keto?”
Struggling with diets and keeping weight off has always been my downfall.  I would go on regular diets but I would consistently get off track and get back to eating delicious sweets and foods that were essentially a “no-no”. I tried different diets over the years but I just couldn’t cut out the cravings that I had for sweets! (I have a really bad sweet tooth!!) .
I had a discussion with my good friend (you will meet through my blog!) about how I had no problem hitting the gym but couldn’t get a strangle hold on my eating habits!!  He told me to look into keto and it was the best decision I have made! Being on keto not only changed me physically but as well as, emotionally and mentally!
Through my experience on the ketogenic diet I have gone through many highs and lows, all of which I will be sharing with you through this blog! I hope you enjoy my content! Stay tuned for my next post where I will be sharing in depth my experience with keto!

The Best & Worst Snacks For Weight Loss – Diet For Losing Weight Dr.Berg Luckily accessing this beneficial Dr Eric Berg youtube video is perfect timing for me because I had just purchased some hummus today to consume within the next 48 to 70 hours andor sooner, though I reluctantly admit that certain fruits are some of my diet craving achille's heels. Still, I am happy to have found this video especially because peanut butter is one of the foods that I frequently crave and my craving for hummus has suddenly re-emerged.

I am NOT A DOCTOR. I am NOT A CERTIFIED NUTRIONALIST. I have made keto my life for almost a year and have had a LOT of ups, downs, crying tears of joy, and crying because I ate a piece of pizza. But guess what? 76 pounds lost and I am more healthy than EVER. No Keto supplements, no gimmics. Just food, portion control, will-power, and re-training my brain to eat for nourishment and not out of boredom. I used to eat bagels, cereal, loaded sugary oatmeal, cookies; THOUSANDS of empty calories a day! I had depression, a skin disorder, I was obese, I had horrible acne...you name it. So? How did I do it? The million dollar question. I saw a photo of myself with my son. I cried. I looked so bad and felt SO bad about myself. I thought, "ENOUGH! I WILL CHANGE THIS!" It was hard. My husband is fit. He can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound. My toddler's enjoy toddler food and snacks. I would watch my husband eat an ice-cream, and my mind went into a tail spin. I wanted it. I wanted so badly to shove an ice-cream in my mouth so fast. But I didn't. Instead of getting angry at HIM for enjoying himself, I got angry at ME. I used my anger as motivation. I googled things. I watched youtube, I researched it all and took the dive straight in. Those who know me personally, know I used to be a drug addict (another blog you can find about that* journey) and I have found giving up Heroin was easier than giving up carbs. But, don't let that scare you off. Don't assume that I just compared heroin to carbs. They are both horrible on your body and they are both addicting, but carbs made me feel happy throughout the day....so I thought. I am not perfect. There were days I would eat pizza. There were days I ate a cake-pop. But this new way of eating has taught me so much about myself. I can** eat a cake pop and not gain 20 pounds. Because I eat ONE, and move on as if nothing happened. I am fat adapted now, which is the ultimate ketosis goal. It takes eating clean, being strict, and giving your body time to heal and adapt. The first few months I highly reccomend not eating ANY keto goodies or processed "keto" items (atkins, or protein bars). Here is a little information to help get you started. I will write some common questions/answers I encountered along my journey.
Keto can help with weight-loss, diabetes, inflammation, IBS, mild to moderate skin disorders, PCOS, Lupus, and more.
To get full benefits of being ketogenic, the cleaner the foods the better. Eating whole foods, unprocessed, with no grains or sugar, help kick carb/sugar cravings, and help your gut health.
Ketosis is a state in which your body undergoes from lacking carbohydrates. Your body will be in ketosis, when it switches from burning carbs as a fuel source, to burning fat instead. People constantly mistake an influx of fat in order to be "keto." This is a myth. You do not need to eat copious amounts of fat to be in ketosis. You need to stay under 20 net carbs a day and use healthy fat as a leverage.

Ketosis can be achieved in a week if you stick to it. Not caving into cravings, and eating clean, while drinking electrolytes help the process quickly. You can* get keto flu. Symptoms start because your body freaks out with the sudden lack of carbs. Symptoms/remedies (could last anywhere from 3 days to a week):

How to get started:
I count "macros" which in keto terms means tracking your; carbs, protein, and fat. Keto is a high fat, moderate protein, and low carb diet.
Input your information as accurately as possible to determine your "macro goals". If you wish to lose weight, make sure you check "calorie deficit".

Next, download "carb manager" app. Input your macro calculations and information and it will set up your goals so it's easy to track. The app is user friendly, and shows your breakdown of nutrients and food goals.
-start with your food diary. Scan items into the app, or search foods in the database, and log EVERYTHING you eat/drink. This helps see what you eat and how much you eat, so you know how much work you'll need to put in (meaning how much to cut out of your diet or add to it)
-get comfortable with the app until you have a basic understanding of what to eat and what not to eat.

Meats: any! Just check for carbs. Carbs in meat usually mean added sugars/seasonings or preservatives
Cheese: any!
Dairy: almond milk (unsweet), full fat cheeses and yogurts (check carbs, two good brand is ideal!), cream cheese, heavy cream, half and half, and eggs!!!
Veggies: green=good. See list above for veggie choices. Avoid: carrots, corn, high carb veggies. (See list/link above)
Fat: healthy fats are important to help you stay full and give you energy. Healthy fats: real butter, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados
Cut out: anything in a box or processed. Avoid keto treats (atkins or slim fast). Eat whole foods. Ya gotta cook! Take pride in your yummy keto foods!
Google ANY recipe but add "keto" at the end and i guarantee there is a recipe for it.
Sugar- avoid, but use: truvia, monkfruit, Swerve brand or 100% whole earth stevia.
Baking flour- almond or coconut flour
Low carb tortillas are a good substitute as long as you "count" the carbs in your app.
Condiments- mayo, mustard, sugar free ketchups and bbq sauce, full fat ranch, basalmic vinegarette. Check sugars and carbs.
Buying keto test strips (walmart) can help keep you motiviated and accountable. Keto strips test ketones in your urine. Any shade of pink=ketosis. If you eat too many carbs, eat too much sugar, this will kick your body out of keto and you have to "start the process over". I purchased a blood meter 6 months in, and this method of tracking is VERY accurate compared to the strips. They are pricey, but I invested in one for myself after 6 months because I was serious about this life! Check amazon for "ketone blood meter" if you are interested.
Drink: water. Lots of water! Gatorade or powerade ZERO, add water flavorings (MIO) check carbs and added sugars. Coffee (with hwc or half and half). Tea (unsweet or with keto approved sweetner)
Trust the process. Trust yourself. Love yourself enough to heal your body! I promise you won't regret this! Keto on!

He is the author of The 7 Principles of Fat Burning, published by KB Publishing in January 2011. In addition, Eric Berg is widely published in trade magazines, including Chiropractic Today and The American Chiropractor, and in consumer publications such as First for Women, Men’s Exercise, New Beauty, Upscale and Let’s Live. Dr. Berg trains chiropractors, physicians and allied healthcare practitioners in his methods, and to date he has trained over 2,000 healthcare professionals.

Overview
I have been in practice for 25 years. In our clinic we consult our patients in eating better, how to get nutrition from the foods we eat and using nutrition to improve health. I have taught nutrition part time at Howard University as an associate professor in the Community Health division. I deliver many educational seminars to government agencies as well as creating health YouTube videos online.
