i did a little research into this rating you did about glucose levels being the reason for gluten intolerance in american grain wheat, and i found that while youâre findings are correct, the concerns of the people who you responded to also have some merit.
an article from snopes simplified it well on a discussion pertains to the topic, that while it is not common for harmful chemicals to be present in our grain products in the US, 5% of wheat acres that produce our supply of grains use glyphosate (most commonly Roundup) to speed up harvesting.
itâs debated on and has mixed responses amongst government health agencies on if consumption of glyphosate treated crops is harmful, but anyone familiar with farming/landscaping/property maintenance knows about the RoundUp lawsuits and that it is all types of poison. a large study found that its use is also correlated with health issues amongst infants born in areas that commonly utilize it
itâs not completely agreed upon by everyone across the board yet, but the concern of chemical absorption of glysophate in grain crops in america and itâs potential effects on a personâs health still have a whole lot more research to be done before anything is considered surefire. it certainly doesnât help that we got negligent folks like Dr. Stephanie Seneff spreading around bullshit studies on these topics that got a snowballs chance in hell of getting even one good peer review.
when it comes to concerns of the US government either doing something 100% responsibly with intentions to protect its citizens, or being 100% evil and trying to kill us, it more often is a sliding scale between those two points. and which end of the scale its farther on is often determined by if the public has previously had a riot, a lot of people died as a result of a thing being used, or folks across the board made it clear to the government that a standard will not be excepted.
i believe iâve gotten everything communicated as i intended here, but let me know if iâve used a term incorrectly or anything, iâm new to the fact checking blood sport game and am looking for tips on how to improve.
hey, sorry for the slow response to this!
Thanks for sending this in, it's an interesting topic and definitely expands the discussion. It's well sourced and explained.
When fact checking, I'm always torn between adding more context and sticking to the original claims. Here I've tried to stick to the spirit of the claims, ie whether people's varying gluten intolerence were likely due to pesticide intolerence, or most likely a reaction to differing levels of gluten. However, it makes me really happy to see people looking into it further!
You asked for tips on improving, so I've looked for some constructive criticisms. First, though, I want to say that these are mostly nitpicks - overall this is well written and sourced!
Your statement that 'anyone familiar with farming/landscaping/property maintenance knows about the RoundUp lawsuits and that it is all types of poison' I think is the most vulnerable to criticism. I've got three potential criticisms on this statement:
It's making an unsourced generalisation about general knowledge. This might be true - I am very much not familiar with farming - but you haven't given any evidence to back it up.
The claim of 'all types of poison' is non-specific and non-scientific. (I think this was probably hyperbole but considering the factual nature of the discussion, it's generally best practice to keep things literal)
Most importantly, the relevence of this to the original argument is questionable. The original post was not referencing people who were exposed to large quantities of glysophosphate - e.g. through agricultural work - and made no reference to cancers or birth weights. I think it could be reasonable to add this in for context, but it should be made clear that the research and lawsuit does not directly support the claim that use of pesticides affect or mimic the symptoms of gluten intolerence.
I hope these are helpful and not discouraging - if you disagree with any of my criticisms, feel free to send another ask!

Sapioflore returns! Ingo's tough branches make it difficult to quickly spread branches after high energy activities, so sometimes he needs Emmet to handle it for him so he can get his glucose. Emmet usually holds onto Ingo for a while, connecting into his phloem network to help him rebuild his starch stores by sending in fresh food.
Also bonus content:
I was talking with friends and did some diagram/explanation sketches.
This is how Sapioflore babies are given their humanoid shape. The attention to detail and level of care for this procedure varies between groups, but generally this is the basic method for shaping them. A Sapioflore not raised with members of its species to perform this will remain amorphous and lack development in body and brain.
These are some basic notes on how Sapioflores look or decorate themselves. Clothing tends to be short to utilize as much sunlight as possible, though they generally tend to be structural as well, keeping sections of the body bound together. Decorative clothing or accessories aren't incredibly common, with the only form of ornamentation accessible to everyone being dyeing.
It's not in this sketch but another thing I've drafted in my spare time is occupational clothing. Leather gloves and aprons are tools that certain Sapioflores will always have at hand, and goods made from woven plant stalks are common in every household.

[lev:red 3.04 spoilers, very suggestive in the most mundane of ways?] while there are many closer by their house or hq, when they have the time eliot walks thirty minutes off route to go to a small family-owned pharmacy because he knows they offer hand packing of pills. probably why they're still in business; rare thing these days, and eliot may not have allergies, but he knows the resistances and sensitivites he's developed over the years, and he knows they can pack his shit right.
their home supply just ran out of simple antibacterial cream, and so eliot makes his way over. he notices parker, of course, a few minutes in, but he doesn't call her out and she hangs back. trailing him. watching him.
when he's picks just a tube of the cream, he hands it off to his side and (as expected) finds parker there with a basket. he peeks in and sees tampons, one of every kind of floss they have in stock, and a small bottle of the multivitamins hardison prefers, as well as (like a troubling promise of what their night might be like) lube, two boxes of sesame street band-aids, and glucose monitoring lancets.
eliot sighs, picks up the lube, and says silicone? really gonna need that? we still got some atâat her devious smile, eliot tosses the tube back in. right.
before he can drop his hand, parker snaps forward and steals it. she holds it up, examining the knuckle of the index finger. it bears the mark of where her canine tore into the flesh just a few days before. the area around it has now reddened, although it's thankfully not swollen or hot to the touch. yet.
it's still bothering you? you would think your body would have gotten used to myâparker chomps her teethâby now.
agitated it fending off the goon squad, i reckon. eliot flexes his fingers. close enough to the bone im keeping an eye on it.
parker pouts thoughtfully, pressing a thumb into where he's most tender. should i pick up condoms?
made sure to not break their skin, so we should be good on exposure. there was once when he wouldn't have dared over a paper cut, but eliot has calmed down, putting more trust into PrEP and his ability to subdue without bloodshed. if you need them for your plans, wouldnât hurt?
parker glances down, calculates, and then skips off. eliot follows as she snatches a box of latex gloves instead of condoms, hot & cold strips, and... yup, alright. she has definitely plans, judging by her pausing over the incontinence bed pads.
eliot shakes his head. deciding between comfort or absorption?
parker nods. given the greater utility, he reaches for the latter but perhaps his movement prompted her, because she snatches forward for one outside his usual dimensions for the widest.
no sharps in my ass, parker.
parker glares at him. i know that! she then... huh, shoves the basket at him and storms off. she lets him see her bump into a display to steal a chocolate bar on her way out.
her outburst surprises eliot. makes him pause. review their conversation tor any other obvious signs of distress, and finding no more agitation than her new usual since hardison left.
but she has been off.
eliot dutifully checks out (making sure they ring up the chocolate as well) and he doesn't have to go far to find parker. she sits on the old coin operated dolphin outside the shop.
gonna tell me what that was about?
when parker doesn't answer right away, he pats his pockets and puts the two quarters in, making parker rock back and forth morosely.
i take good care of you, parker finally says.
course you do, darling. it was a bad joke on my part. you're a good domâ
its not about that. ill do anything for my family.
eliot squeezes her shoulder. i know that too.
parker finishes off the chocolate and waits until the dolphin stops before she continues, voice small and eyes avoiding contact: was i too... she waves up and down her body. ...me this time?
how you figure?
bre got hurt. i scared the nana haters and they took too long and bre had to make a distraction, so. my fault.
oh, park...
she jumps up at her name and starts walking home. eliot matches her pace. he stops her, pulls her into the shadow of a building. parker is at a height with eliot, but sometimes it cna be so obvious how much more lean she is than him but how small she looks when she's feeling pathetic. eliot covers her jaw with his hand not busy with the bag of newly purchased items; he can see where she bit him against her skin.
i know they're, like, trafficking victims. but im still so angry at them.
we get heated during cases. harry had his own moment. you and soph conspired to get bre up there in just that case, right? parker shrugs, noncommittal.
im supposed to be better than that. im me.
that aint how this works.
it should be.
eliot kisses her lips softly, which she tolerates, especially as he puts their foreheads together. they stand close.
i had your back. you had mine, when i had to fight, figuring out how to get into the room fastest. sophie and me, maybe we overlooked how much anyone targeting a nana would make you invested and protective. oversight from sophie as our mastermind and, eliot swallows with a wobble, me as your partner. especially...
especially?
with hardison gone.
parker tenses up. oh.
i miss him too. i always miss him when he's gone away. miss you whenâ
in a breath, parker slips out of eliots grasp and starts speeding away, to the point eliot has to jog to catch up.
okay. i understand now. im done with those emotions right now.
alright darling, eliot says softly, seeing parkers walla go up rather than get emotional in public.
wanna go home. gonna poke and fuck you so hard.
eliot is excited to have sex with parker, whatever wild and potentially messy it will be. but as he scrolls aside parker, he knows he loves this too: walking by her side, supporting her, with hardisons name on his tongue.

What can porygon do?
Once again, you've come to the right guy!
I've had my partner Skip for a while now, and he too suffers from his own disabilities but he is incredibly active and helpful.
I've had to learn a thing or two about their behaviors and just what they can do.
Skip is an early gen model of Porygon, and while his drivers can be updated, his speech drivers are corrupted, and it prevents him from speaking properly.
We made his speech collar that helps, but between that and his struggle with higher end technology, he is still just a silly little guy.

As for Porygon as a whole, they are one of the few pokemon that can influence technology to such a degree, aside from Rotom for the most part.
What Porygon can do is work with most lower end technology and the internet very easily.
Because of this, it's possible for porygon as easily as 2nd gen to be able to integrate and sync with technology.
While rotom needs to take over technology to fully utilize it, Porygon can connect like a living Bluetooth and sync with it.
People with things like heart rate monitors, glucose readers, even pacemakers, and stop watches can have them linked to Porygon to keep accurate, on the spot readings.
The most impressive use I've seen are people who use Porygon for translate and once I've seen someone completely immobile in a wheelchair needing to use a text to speech display, and they had a Porygon there to help make the process smoother.
It's what gave me the idea to give Skip his speech box.
I know it sounds dangerous, but it does far more help for them being around than it does being without them, and they are very playful and helpful by nature.
As they evolve, they simply become more advanced and efficient with their help, but even an older gen Porygon can help make a difference! It's part of the reason I love these little guys!

Weird Princess Bee thought, but... Cholila?
Like, Chloe lost everything and rebuilt her self from the ground up and is maybe trying to settle some business in Paris.
Lila theoretically gained everything but its left her deeply unfulfilled and she's back in Paris hoping satisfying it will fill the void.
They meet at a bar, things happen~
This au is keeping my aroace!Lila headcanon for two reasons
1.) her being unaware of this certainly adds to her feelings of unfulfilment because of the classic aroacespec 'Am I Broken????' feelings, especially when she's already found someone who /should/ be perfect but she just. Doesn't feel it.
and
2.) we gave Lila an oc henchman named Chester who I need to utilize more/drag him into other aus(or at least put his profile somewhere in the oc masterpost) and if I was gonna ship Lila with anyone in this au it'd be him. He's literally both Mr. Pigeon and Mayura combined to her role as Hawkmoth.
Plus we also have Chloé is just vibing as a single mom and cool with it and not really seeking out a romance.
That said!
Could still have them meet and try to hit it off. After all, Chloé would assume that Lila also moved on from petty middle school drama and Lila.... well. She hasn't entirely but she's still a con artist who could try and seduce Chloé into a glucose guardian situation.

Blog Post #6 - The Cyborg and White Supremacy in Online Spaces
Is the differently abled individual more chimera/cyborg than the average cyborg?
In Haraway's Cyborg Manifesto, discusses the hybrid of humans with machine and technology that has further advanced our evolution, especially through the focused lens of race, class, and gender. I found it interesting with our conversations in class and what's mentioned in this reading how amputees and other disabilities are being more equalized or created equitable through technology and increasing this definition of the cyborg. A personal example of my own, as a type 1 diabetic, I've found my life extremely easier because of access to technology like insulin pumps and glucose monitors that work for my daily needs. To put into perspective T1D was considered a death sentence 100 years ago in the 1920âs and the first insulin pump was created in the 60âs and was as large as a backpack, now it's smaller than your palm where you cant even see it when i'm in class. If we are considered cyborgs and chimeras because we are so connected to technology like our phones and laptops, what does that mean for people like me who are physically and historically attached to technology 24/7? Am I considered more cyborg or chimera because my actual life and survival now depends more on technology than the average person? I believe, yes, differently abled people are heightened and future versions of our definition of the cyborg or chimera because we don't just use technology because it's necessarily accessible, but manipulate and utilize technology to even the playing fields for many of us who were never given the equal opportunity.Â
2. How does the cyborg differ for Race, Class, and Gender?
Weâve learned in this class the extent of the cyborg, especially how it has been adapted for racial/ethnic marginalized groups, women, queer communities, etc, to find spaces, share resources and utilize this manifestation of the cyborg to navigate oppressive systems of power. When considering differently abled people, personally in my head about T1D, how does the access to the cyborg differ for those who are lower SES, non-white, and women in a capitalist world? For example, to put into perspective, Iâve been doing a lot of research regarding different intersectional backgrounds and identities with being type 1. White people are curiously the most likely to have T1D and therefore many studies, research, and medical experiences are with predominantly white people, higher SES(because money gives access to medicine), with a specific white body type. Regarding lower SES T1Dâs, they are more likely to have poor access to necessary medical care that adds more health disparities like losing limbs, losing eyesight, nerve damage, etc, and eventually early death. Although we are all considered cyborgs because of our access to technology on our phones at our fingertips, is someone who is lower SES considered less cyborg because they can't afford access, and therefore less likely to survive? Iâve known many diabetics whose lives are lost, shortened, and/or suppressed because there is a lack of care and access for the type of people to receive medical care. Is there such a thing as neutrality for being a cyborg when you're a differently abled intersectional person that can affect your access to life saving technology? Considering just race, there are already severe health disparities similar to these seen within the BIPOC population, especially black women. Not only that but the treatment, lack of research, education, and how they are perceived by the general public, is created solely for thin, white, rich bodies. For example, Kesha Carter, a young T1D Black women flight attendant was accused of carrying a bomb(her insulin pump) on the plane of which she worked on, by a white woman passenger, after Kesha changed her insulin pump and threw it away in the trash of the plane's bathroom(something we all do). How quickly the visible Black female cyborg became a threat rather than a differently abled person and notice how this directly differs for a White T1D who tend to struggle with misinformation and confusion of the disability versus BIPOC T1Dâs who tend to deal with the intersectional racist and ableist view of being a potential threat to the public. People of color with differently abled bodies are being perceived as higher levels of danger with the visible appearance of advanced technology and cyborgism that aids the body in the absence of necessary physical body functions. So I believe in cases like being a T1D, and other disabilities, that could define us as visible appearance cyborgs, will tend to face unique and different intersectional challenges that will limit our access as lower SES, questioning our bodies as differently abled, and/or for non-white individuals flat out fear or hate an individual due to the unknown advancement.
3. The âwelcomingâ of white women in online White Supremacy spaces and why is it so dangerous?
The digital era in certain ways empowered marginalized and minority communities by providing spaces and power online that isn't always granted in the real world. But the same could be said about white supremacy with the consequences of translocal whiteness, and the digital era being used in racist ways to spread historical and genocidal beliefs. Women were more likely to share, respond, and participate in online discussion for only women spaces than spaces with men. While it's a great progression for women to build power and voices through online spaces, the heightened participation of white supremacy online also has involved more white women than ever. It's a common repetition we often see within history where some groups are tolerated or brought into gatekeeping spaces to build numbers and populations. In today's world we are seeing this more with the LGBTQ+ community and the active attempts to remove trans people from the community and overtly accept LGB people into white conservative spaces. As Daniels says in Chapter five of âGender, White Supremacy, and the Internetâ, âWhat shifts in white supremacy in the digital era is that now this sort of racist rhetoric is no longer simply ideology that is distributed in one direction, from movement leaders to movement followers, but instead is interactive and participatory(Daniel, pg. 70).â The reinforcement of white women in white supremist spaces is dangerous because they openly weaponize feminist ideals and thinking to only work for white women and make white supremacy more easily accessible to participate and pass on to others.
4. Why is it concerning that technology is becoming this definition of the âfriendly female"?
I believe this becomes a question of how women are viewed and reinforced to perform âpositivity" to make the others, usually men, feel better about themselves. Oppressive stereotypes are often weaponized against women to perform and act certain ways, even stereotyping basic emotions that evoke crying as âfemaleâ. This is not only concerning but reflective of the world we live in. Kate OâRiordan in the book, âGender, Technology, and Visual Cybercultureâ explains how, â...the prevalence of the female fantasy figures is related to the dominance of men in software engineering and programming(OâRiordan, pg. 247).â The reason we have so much female-like presence in technology like Alexa or Siri is argued due to the heteronormative sexual gendering tactic for an obvious consumer of the dominant white cis/het male. This then ultimately further enforces the social construct of how women are gendered, perceived, and enforced into seemingly genderless technology. The hyper humanism of this technology is concerning when we are in a world that hasn't even âhumanizedâ every group of people, yet this is becoming extremely stark.Â

Researchers at Kyushu University have developed a device that combines a catalyst and microwave flow reaction to efficiently convert complex polysaccharides into simple monosaccharides. The device utilizes a continuous-flow hydrolysis process, where cellobiose -- a disaccharide made from two glucose molecules -- is passed through a sulfonated carbon catalyst that is heated using microwaves. The subsequent chemical reaction breaks down cellobiose into glucose. Their results were published in the journal ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. Converting biomass into useful resources has been a topic of scientific research for decades. Biomass polysaccharides, long-chain complex sugars which are ubiquitous in nature, are considered to be one of the more promising substances for efficient conversion since they can be converted into simple sugars that, in turn, can be used in food, pharmaceuticals, and chemical synthesis.

Okay okay okay okay
So I've been thinking a lot about Gojo's brain lol. And I think he could fit the bill for a bunch of conditions- but this may also be because the field itself is beginning to move away from categorizing disorders and instead is starting to examine things not only based on spectrum perspectives, but also through the lens of genetic an biological lenses (check out the RDoC, it's SUPER cool).
I think he definitely fits the bill for executive dysfunction overall- man's tonic and phasic dopamine regulation is not regulated AT ALL. I could see him as also having a touch of savant syndrome maybe potentially possibly. Mild ASD I think would also make sense for him. But so would a certain level of OCD in my most humble and personal opinion- or even autonomic nervous system dysregulation that leads to sensitivity to certain stimuli and migraines. I love his whole sugar addiction because in the manga it really does make sense- sugar is pretty much glucose at its purest and glucose is what the brain uses for energy, so him utilizing so much brain power and thus developing a sweet tooth is just peak brain function lol. I think whatever conditions you decide he may experience would be super fun to explore, and it could easily tie into him being very good at very hard subjects and also having a hard time understanding why other people don't get it as easily. I'm gonna start flipping through my notes to see if there's anything that jumps out to me as very Gojo.
I definitely think OCD would fit, I was thinking about it earlier as well.
Savant syndrome sounds like a really good fit for him, too!!
And yes, his sugar addiction makes so much sense and it all pairs so well with him just being so smart and why he chooses such difficult subjects.
đ€đ€đ€
My brain just go zoom right now with the possibilities and I am filing this entire message away for later đ

Best Exercises to Lower High Blood Sugar Levels Naturally
High blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, is a growing concern for millions of people worldwide. In the U.S. alone, around 34 million adults have diabetes, with many more living with prediabetes. The connection between exercise and blood sugar regulation is well-documented. Regular physical activity can boost insulin sensitivity and help manage glucose levels. Integrating exercise into a blood sugar management plan offers numerous health benefits, including improved mood, weight control, and enhanced energy levels.
Cardio for Blood Sugar Control
Aerobic Exercise Recommendations
Aerobic exercise is crucial for lowering blood sugar levels. The CDC and AHA recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week. This can include activities like brisk walking or moderate cycling. Aim for sessions that last at least 30 minutes most days.
Examples of Effective Cardio Workouts
Several cardio workouts can effectively manage blood sugar:
Swimming: A low-impact exercise that improves cardiovascular health.
Jogging: Ideal for burning calories and enhancing endurance.
Dancing: A fun way to engage muscles and elevate heart rate.
Real-life stories demonstrate success. For example, Sarah, a 45-year-old diagnosed with prediabetes, reported that regular swimming sessions helped normalize her blood sugar levels within months.
Monitoring Blood Sugar Before and After Cardio
Monitoring your blood sugar before and after workouts is essential. This helps you understand how your body responds to different exercises. If you notice a drop in your levels after exercise, consider having a snack rich in carbohydrates before your workout to prevent hypoglycemia.
Strength Training's Role in Blood Sugar Management
Building Muscle Mass and Insulin Sensitivity
Strength training boosts muscle mass, which improves insulin sensitivity. Research shows that increased muscle can enhance glucose uptake, making it easier for the body to manage blood sugar levels.
Recommended Strength Training Routine
A sample routine for beginners could include:
Bodyweight squats â 2 sets of 10-15 reps
Push-ups â 2 sets of 8-12 reps
Dumbbell rows â 2 sets of 8-10 reps
For advanced individuals, consider increasing weights and sets. Allow for 48 hours of rest between sessions for recovery.
Incorporating Strength Training into Your Week
Struggling to find time? Try scheduling 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week. Utilize shorter workouts and combine them with activities you already do. For instance, do a quick session during lunch breaks.
Yoga and Flexibility Exercises for Blood Sugar Balance
Yoga Poses for Improved Blood Flow and Circulation
Certain yoga poses can increase circulation and help regulate blood sugar:
Downward-Facing Dog: Strengthens and stretches your entire body.
Warrior Poses: Builds strength in the legs while enhancing focus.
Benefits of Mindfulness and Stress Reduction on Blood Sugar
Stress can lead to elevated cortisol levels, which can raise blood sugar. Research indicates that mindfulness practices, including yoga, may reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
Finding a Yoga Style That Suits You
Choose a yoga style that matches your fitness level. Gentle yoga is great for beginners, while Vinyasa offers more flow and movement. Joining a local class can provide motivation and guidance.
Walking: A Simple Yet Powerful Exercise
The Accessibility and Convenience of Walking
Walking is one of the easiest exercises to incorporate into daily life. It requires no special equipment, making it a fantastic choice for almost everyone.
Walking Strategies for Blood Sugar Control
Consider these walking strategies:
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Aim for a brisk pace, which enhances the benefits.
Explore walking routes that incorporate inclines to challenge yourself.
Combining Walking with Other Activities
You can easily combine walking with your regular tasks. Consider scheduling walking meetings or walking your dog when running errands.
Crucial Considerations for Exercise and Blood Sugar
Consulting Your Doctor Before Starting Any Exercise Program
Before beginning any exercise routine, consult your healthcare provider, especially if you have existing health concerns. They can help tailor a plan to your needs.
Adjusting Exercise Based on Blood Sugar Levels
Learn to gauge your pre-workout blood sugar levels. If levels are too low, consider a light snack prior to engaging in exercise. Adjust intensity based on how you feel.
Importance of Consistency and a Holistic Approach
Consistency is key in managing blood sugar. Coupling exercise with a balanced diet and medication (if necessary) is critical. Experts agree that lifestyle changes take time but have profound effects on health.
Conclusion
In summary, exercises like cardio, strength training, yoga, and walking can all play significant roles in managing high blood sugar. Always consult with a doctor before starting a new program and aim for consistency in your routine. Regular exercise not only aids in controlling blood sugar but also enhances overall health and well-being. Prioritize your physical activity; itâs crucial for a healthier future.

i'm not gonna reblog this post because it is overall quite good and i just have a nitpick with this part but actually the way the body processes food is pretty much combustion. like it produces CO2 and water from hydrocarbons. that's all combustion is.
food (kilo)calories are also just a measure of energy present in the food. you'll notice if you go to europe that the big label at the top of nutrition facts says Energy and not Calories. but actually, all levels on nutrition facts are theoretical; you are not going to necessarily absorb all the iron, protein, or ascorbic acid in the food either, but the amount present there is still labeled.
a calorie is defined as the measure of energy it takes to heat 1 g of water up 1 degree celsius. why we use that (x1000) to measure food calories is because a number of foods are mostly water, and so are you, but your body is of course measured in kg so it's useful to use kcal. also calorimetry measures energy of complete combustion by the change in temperature of water surrounding the combustion; many bond dissociation energies are reported in kcal/mol still rather than kJ/mol. we use bomb calorimeters because if we don't allow the internal volume to change, we can get a more accurate estimate of bond dissociation energy. calorimetry is not a hack nutritionist's plot against you, but simply the best measure we have of measuring the energy present in materials. we cannot know exactly what's in food structurally or even chemically, so we can't run molecular dynamics simulations to estimate the energies present in catabolism.
now, are energies measured by bomb calorimetry misleading as to how your body processes food? yes. your body does perform combustion on anything it can break down into glucose and co., but it doesn't necessarily perform complete combustion. some small amounts of carbon monoxide are produced in the digestive tract due to this, even! it depends on the type of food you eat how completely it combusts. for example, if you eat a tablespoon of sugar, it'll probably be processed into almost all the calories, whereas if you eat a tablespoon of rye with the same amount of theoretical glucose, it probably won't. this is a significant gripe i have with the quote unquote health food industry, actually- a lot of things are estimated as having higher amounts of accessible calories than they really have, so people end up calorie-cutting by labels in order to diet but then it's compounded by the fact that a number of the calories are entirely inaccessible. so if you calorie-cut to 1600 kcal/day but you're only eating fruits, vegetables, ancient grains, and lean meat, you're probably processing those "1600 kcal" into 1300 or less kcal!
but kilocalories aren't the only misleading thing on food labels, and while eyeballing nutrition facts can help you get enough of essential nutrients like vitamin A and K and the like, in many cases it won't be in the most easily accessible form, so you might malnourish yourself. iron is a big problem here, and why i recommend impossible foods so much to people who are vegetarian and especially vegan; heme is one of the few types of iron that the human body can process, so that impossible foods contain it without being meat makes them extremely important to a non-iron-supplemented vegetarian diet. anyway, digression aside, are the beauty and food industries intentionally being misleading about how accurate kcal are? almost certainly. is the utilization of the kilocalorie (and bomb calorimetry generally) for measurement of energy in foods due to this? almost certainly not.
(P.S.: if you'd like to know why your body isn't constantly on fire due to the fact that you're combusting all the time, that would be because thermodynamics of combustion (a reaction where the products are ludicrously heavily favored) are distinct from the kinetics of combustion commonly (in the atmosphere with so much available oxygen, the rate laws dictate that combustion goes really fast. in your body with enzymatic processes, it goes fairly slowly). everything that can combust is combusting, just very slowly, from paper to gas to sugar- if you leave glucose out in the air, it'll slowly slowly slowly burn even without heat applied; the enzymes in your body get over that initial heat/energy barrier, though, and burn it quicker. however, since there's no continual heat applied, it won't set off a chain chemical reaction and burn very quickly unless something's extremely wrong with your body. eat your antioxidants)

Understanding Lactose and Lactose Intolerance
Lactose is a natural sugar found in milk and dairy products, composed of two simpler sugars: glucose and galactose. To digest lactose, the body requires an enzyme called lactase, which breaks down lactose into these simpler sugars. However, some individuals have a deficiency in lactase, leading to lactose intolerance. This condition can result in uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and stomach cramps after consuming dairy products.
Prevalence of Lactose Intolerance
Lactose intolerance is surprisingly common, affecting approximately 65% of the global population to some degree. It is particularly prevalent among certain ethnic groups and can develop at any age. As awareness of this condition grows, so does the demand for lactose-free alternatives, making lactose-free a2 desi cow milk an essential product in many households.
The Science Behind Lactose-Free Milk
The process of making lactose-free cow milk involves breaking down the lactose present in regular cow milk. This is achieved through the use of the lactase enzyme, which can either be added directly to the milk or utilized in a filtration process.
Enzymatic Hydrolysis
The most common method for producing lactose-free milk is enzymatic hydrolysis. In this process, lactase is added to regular cow milk. The enzyme works by breaking down lactose into its constituent sugars, glucose and galactose. This not only makes the milk easier to digest for lactose-intolerant individuals but also alters the taste slightly, giving it a sweeter flavour profile.
Steps in Enzymatic Hydrolysis:
Lactase Addition: Lactase is added to the milk in a controlled environment.
Incubation: The milk is incubated at a specific temperature and pH level to allow the lactase enzyme to break down the lactose.
Testing: The lactose content is tested to ensure it falls below the threshold that defines lactose-free milk, typically less than 0.5 grams of lactose per 100 milliliters.
Ultra-Filtration
Another method used to create lactose-free milk is ultra-filtration. This technique involves passing regular cow milk through a specialized filter that separates lactose from the other components of milk. The ultra-filtration process retains most of the nutrients, including proteins, vitamins, and minerals, while effectively removing lactose. This method is advantageous for those who prefer a more natural approach without the addition of enzymes.
Steps in Ultra-Filtration:
Milk Preparation: The milk is prepared by adjusting its pH level and temperature to optimize the filtration process.
Filtration: The milk is passed through a specialized filter that separates lactose from the other components of milk.
Testing: The lactose content is tested to ensure it falls below the threshold that defines lactose-free milk, typically less than 0.5 grams of lactose per 100 milliliters.
The Production Process
The production of lactose-free cow milk involves several key steps:
Sourcing and Pasteurization: The process begins with sourcing high-quality fresh cow milk. The milk is then pasteurized to eliminate any harmful bacteria, ensuring it is safe for consumption.
Enzyme Addition or Filtration: Depending on the chosen method, either lactase is added to the pasteurized milk for enzymatic hydrolysis, or the milk undergoes ultra-filtration to remove lactose.
Testing for Lactose Levels: After processing, the lactose content is tested to ensure it falls below the threshold that defines lactose-free milk, typically less than 0.5 grams of lactose per 100 milliliters.
Packaging: Finally, the lactose-free milk is packaged in sterile containers to maintain freshness and prevent contamination. The packaging is designed to keep the milk safe and extend its shelf life.

Nutritional Aspects of Lactose-Free Cow Milk

Plant chemicals are so cool! Unit 9
The most amazing thing I know about nature is the ability of plants to produce compounds that serve incredible health benefits to humans. I think it is other-worldly that the flora that has existed alongside humans for so many years can provide us with so many cures to various ailments. Getting personal, I have a very unfortunate family history containing cancer, diabetes, and immune deficiencies that has taken a lot from me. These devastating occurrences have made me all-too-aware of the impacts that lifestyle and food have on human health, and in many ways being in science does not ease my anxieties. However; learning about plant secondary metabolites that serve as phytonutrients in the human body has made me hopeful and inspired to learn more, not just for interest, but to serve my health as well. Buckle up for many science terms and lots of plant facts that I have stored in my brain through my academic career!
Throughout my summary on plant phytonutrients (plant compounds that serve proven health benefits in humans), I will strive to present this information as a whole by connecting plants to human health to satisfy some of Tilden's Principle's of Interpretation (Beck et al. 2018, p. 84). Did you know that the colour of the fruits and vegetables you eat actually correlate to their nutrition? The different pigments produced in plants, such as your orange carrots and red peppers, are caused by secondary metabolites. Orange colouring is caused by the production of beta-carotene, this is then utilized by our body to make vitamin A, making it crucial to our health because we cannot synthesize this on our own. Colours such as purple and dark reds are caused by anthocyanins, these are compounds that aid in our bodies ability to fight tumour producing cells. Actually many plant metabolites, such as glucosinolates from Broccoli, aid in tumour-suppression and have anti-inflammatory properties. Spices such as turmeric have been used for centuries as a treatment for inflammation and diabetes due to the compound 'curcumin'. This bioactive molecule has been increasingly applied to modern medical studies due to its efficacy in improving glucose regulation and suppressing various cancer cell formations.
I won't add in too much more, as I know that was a lot of information. One more area I do want to touch on is the use of genetic engineering to increase yields/improve taste, but decreasing health benefits in the process. An example of this is removing the class of compounds "cucurbitacins" from common cucumbers due to the bitter taste it gives them. These compounds provide various health benefits such as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects, and through the removal of these it has made cucumbers far less beneficial to our health.
I believe much of what our bodies need is provided by nature, not to say I disprove of modern medicine in any way, but our values in food as a society has been greatly impacted due to prices/availability. I want to work plants to improve nutritional concentrations of food, and helping humans be healthier through what has already been granted to us by nature.
Thanks for reading!

Chapter 13. Biophilia, Creative Involution, and the Ecological Future of Queer Desire by Dianne Chisholm
Our essence as a species binds us to explore and affiliate with all life. We are lovers who can add up glucose, amino acids, water, fragrant oils, pigments, and other issue and call it both a flower and a mystical gesture. We can also decimate pollinators with an unloving tonnage of pesticides, precipitating the extinction of entire populations of those mystical gestures, once and forever. Lives without access to sensations are lives that edge out the earthâs raw, pervasive sweetness, that deeply biophilic connection to all life. âEllen Meloy
Biophilia can be a mindful reverence for the infinity of organic sexual-social order; a love for the diversity of non-human life that stirs the mind to infinity for the beneficial enlightenment of humanity Biophilia can be an earthy curiosity for the erotic vitality with which life affects fidelity to extreme geography; an erotic-ethical affiliation between humans and nonhuman life in experimental symbioses whose ecological benefits are sensed and desired, if not fully cognizable (360)
Biophilia, Episemophilia, Cognitive Adventuring
What do nature writers want?; nature writers desire to know what nature desires (361)
âWhat does a prickly pear cactus desire that couples it so tenaciously to bare basalt sandstone with a sexual rhythm that erratically keeps pace with drought and flash flood? What conjunction of organic and inorganic elements add up to such a thriving, if exotic, symbiotic assemblage?
the âintercourseâ  that can develop is not zoophilic bestiality nor anthropomorphic romancing; rather it is a transmutation of human being into something other, prompted by the closeness of the human body to the vibrating heat and rhythms of the animal pack (361)

âBecoming-other-than-humanâ; by being so close to animals (in this case big horn sheep) Ellen Meloy becomes caught up in the pack's migrations and affections in an other dimension of belonging to place. She senses an otherworld with de-familiarized, or deterritorialized human sensibilityâa sensibility pushed to the limit of being human on the threshold of becoming other and she wishes to âbring back their startling newsâ to the human side, where human knowledge of the nonhuman can be put to mutually beneficial work. Â
The human mind evolve(s/d) in contact with animal life (Meloy). Children playacting the animal; children are drawn to animals, animating the senses, connecting and communicating with others, to explore and affiliate with nonhuman lifeforms.
âTouched by indigenous life to the desert heartland, Meloy allies herself with native nature/culture and she foregrounds and reconnects pre- and post-colonial territorial practicesâ (372)
âTo Touch an Otherworldâ:Biophilic Ethics
Species interdependence is the name of the worlding game on earth, and that game must be one of response and respectâŠQueer messmates in mortal play, indeed.âDonna J. Haraway
For humans to aid bighorn survival, it is crucial to understand the zoogenic factor (or the autopoiesis of animal life) in co-evolutionary ecology.

Synthesis weds symbiosis in a post-anthropocentric recovery of the wildâa becoming-animal of wildlife management that âruns contrary to the historical imperative to press everything alive, dead, or otherwise into human serviceâ (307) (374)
Deleuze emphasizes the anti-utilitarian, communal ethics of becoming-animal. âit is no longer a matter of utilizations or captures, but of sociabilites and communitiesâ (1988, 126) (375)
Human alliances with wild animals that do not only protect animal territoriality but also promote animal-earth symbiosis. How can human interference proceed while respecting and/or preserving the otherâs own relations and world? (375)
The Ecological Future of Queer Desire
âOpponents to native fish recovery programsâŠmeasure worth as most of us do, by human ego. What good are these fish? You canât eat them, they appear to have no medical, economic, sport, or industrial valueâŠeven their file drawer in the wildlife management bureaucracy ---ânongameâ---assigns them not their own innate something but that which they are not: not sport, not food. These fish, many people believe, are dead-end. Tertiary detritus with strange humps, and weird lips. They are just too queerâŠ.what does a humpback chub want?â ---Ellen Meloy

Rejects the âsurvival of the fittestâ in favor of cyborg syntheses and unnatural symbiosis (survival of the queerest?)âsexual selection that refines and perfects the family tree
âsexuality is badly explained by the binary organization of the sexes, and just as badly by a bisexual organization within each sex. Sexuality brings into play too great a diversity of conjugated becomings; they are like n sexes, an entire war machine through which love passesâ (Deleuze and Guttari 1987, 278) (375-6)
âOnly queers can battle an imperative that unites Left and Right, thereby neutralizing domestic politicsâ (Lee Edelman, 2004)
âA better science and monitoring is required if variants are to be identified as sympatric (species that cohabit the same region, which do not usually interbreed but which do hybridize naturally, if rarely) or extrinsic (hybridization due to human civilization). More than improved technology , it takes devotion to distinguish variations that signal either adaptive evolution or âthe last-ditch, high-pitched shriek of preextinctionâ. For lifeâs sakeâor more precisely, for life for lifeâs sakeâour biophilia is put to the ultimate test. (379)

ICMR NUTRITION GUIDELINES 2024 BREAKDOWN : LSFITNESS
Statement 1 : Some protein powders, marketed in packages as protein supplements, contain protein from multiple sources. Protein powders may also contain added sugars, non-caloric sweeteners and additives such as artificial flavoring, hence, are not advisable to be consumed on a regular basis.
My Take: Protein powders that contain proteins from multiple sources are known as protein blends. These blends often include whey protein, casein protein, albumin, and others. Protein blends are completely safe for use if they are manufactured and processed in facilities that adhere to strict safety standards, such as those following HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines.
Statement 2 : Protein powders may also contain added sugars, non-caloric sweeteners and additives such as artificial flavoring, hence, are not advisable to be consumed on a regular basis.
My Take: Protein powders may contain added sugars, non-caloric sweeteners, and artificial flavorings. However, these additives are commonplace in many foods we consume today. Rather than casting a negative light on whey protein supplements, it would be more beneficial to implement strict regulations that limit the use of added sugars. Additionally, encouraging the use of healthier non-caloric sweeteners, such as Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), and replacing artificial flavorings with natural ones could improve the nutritional quality of these supplements.
Statement 3 : Whey protein is rich in branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). Recent evidence suggests that BCAAs may increase the risk of certain non-communicable diseases (NCDs). As mentioned above, adequate non-protein energy from carbohydrate and fat is essential for dietary proteins/AA to be utilized for protein synthesis and for related functions in the body. Consuming high level of protein, especially in the form of protein supplement powders, is therefore not advisable.
My Take: Whey protein is indeed rich in branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs): leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Recent evidence has shown a direct correlation between elevated plasma levels of BCAAs and insulin resistance, but this does not necessarily mean it is caused solely by high consumption of BCAAs. The condition may also be due to dysfunctional BCAA catabolism, existing insulin resistance, or being overweight or obese.
Elevated plasma BCAA levels have been observed in individuals who are overweight or obese and exhibit insulin resistance, and these levels are higher compared to healthy individuals. Observational studies have found that plasma BCAA levels are also elevated in patients with Type 2 diabetes when compared to age and BMI-matched controls without diabetes.
Insulin plays a critical role in the metabolism of BCAAs. Results from Mendelian randomization studies indicate that insulin resistance drives higher plasma BCAA levels, and large-scale genetic studies suggest a causal role of diminished BCAA catabolism in underlying insulin resistance.
Dysfunctional BCAA catabolism may lead to the accumulation of a number of BCAA catabolic metabolites in the plasma of insulin-resistant individuals with obesity or Type 2 diabetes, including BCAA-derived acylcarnitines, 3-HIB, 2-HB, and 2-KB. These can have toxic effects on cellular functions. It has been shown that acylcarnitines can cause mitochondrial dysfunction in several tissues and anaplerotic stress, thus dysregulating glucose and fat oxidation.
While there is evidence that elevated BCAA levels can impair insulin signaling pathways, it remains unclear whether elevated BCAA levels are a cause or a consequence of insulin resistance. Most studies measure plasma BCAA levels rather than in peripheral tissues, so future research focusing on peripheral tissues could provide a better perspective on tissue-specific BCAA catabolism.
Statement 4 : Most athletes can get the recommended amount of protein through food alone, without the use of supplements. Protein powders are not required. Moreover, prolonged intake of a large amount of protein is associated with potential dangers, such as bone mineral loss and kidney damage.
My Take: Athletes can obtain the recommended amount of protein through their diet alone, depending on what they eat.
For example, a non-vegetarian athlete can easily meet protein needs from sources such as chicken breast, mutton, and whole eggs while maintaining overall caloric intake, as these sources contain fewer ancillary calories.
Conversely, let's consider an athlete who follows a vegan diet. Major vegan protein sources like tofu, cereals and millets, and pulses and legumes do provide some protein. However, if an athlete relies solely on these foods without supplements, the total calorie count may exceed caloric requirements due to the additional carbohydrates and fats in these protein sources.
Regarding the safety of protein consumption, prolonged intake of a significant amount of proteinâranging from 25-75 grams dailyâhas not been associated with potential dangers such as bone mineral loss and kidney damage. In fact, studies have shown a positive impact on bone mineral density.
The European Society on Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN) advocates for a higher protein intake of 1.0â1.5 g/kg/day to help slow age-related muscle loss.
There is no evidence to suggest that a high protein diet can cause kidney damage in individuals with healthy renal function. However, those with kidney disease, such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), should limit their protein intake.
