Six Seven Sentence Sunday
“But Ruth–”
“So help me, Jamie, if I see you anywhere near this hospital, I will drive you home and tie you to the bed myself,” Ruth admonishes.
“What is with you Kents trying to tie me up?” Jamie asks.
Ruth’s head whips around to her brother, “Roy, what the fuck is he talking about?”
“It was training,” Roy defends quietly, his eyes blinking as he yawns. “Sorry, can’t talk. Concussion.”

Ngl when I see ppl shipping Jamie and Dr. O'Sullivan I think they're at least a little homophobic and very straight.
well, i disagree with a blanket accusation of homophobia, but I do think it's an opinion that holds a very ~straight appeal~, definitely, lol.
there are honestly a boat load of reasons i hate it but they boil down to:
i kind of get why people (esp. a segment of the general audience) might be attracted to it because it's soooo something (bad) shows/sitcoms would do. Like, my god is it TRITE. Predictable, formulaic...boring as all hell! Of course he's going to get with the nameless sister who has less than five minutes total of screen time, just for a little added spice and drama, sure. That's what happens in (bad) shows. But luckily for the rest of us, Ted Lasso even at its worst is not that brand of bad, lol.
it's completely baseless? Nothing wrong with a baseless ship i guess, but at the same time...literally why this one? lol. Like, Jamie and Roy's sister share one scene together in which I don't believe they even say anything to one another directly? There is no chemistry, no...anything? The entire premise for the ship seems to be Jamie telling Roy his sister is hot. Which was very clearly intended as a way for Jamie to get under Roy's skin. Nothing about the scene makes me want to see those two dating.
the big proponents of it i've seen (often, definitely not always) seem to fit into one of two categories 1) people who don't really like Jamie and/or are upset Jamie "got in the way" of their ship, and thus want him to be written into a corner that pulls him away from their preferred couple/inherently shuffles up their dynamic. they don't actually care to watch a plot between Jamie & Roy's sister, they just want Jamie firmly categorized as Taken and thus Not Interested in Roy and/or Keeley, and this is a convenient and predictable(y stupid) way to do it. lol.
OR 2) people who DO really like Jamie and in fact really like Roy & Jamie, but in a very "no homo" way, who want to see more of their dynamic and have a way to define/further explore their closeness, whilst also justifying their own enjoyment of it, that's well set apart from "they have homoerotic tension." Jamie & Roy's sister dating holds an appeal because it more explicitly puts their relationship into firm "brotherly" territory. And I unabashedly loathe that for the same reason i loathe "Roy is Jamie's father figure!" ...foremost because no really, they can just be best friends!! Even if you do not want to ship roy-jamie romantically, you do not need to slap different familial labels on them (or put them into random other pairings) to make their relationship "more." Their relationship is already "more"...they are canonically best friends!! idk if I'm explaining this in the best way but the mindset behind it often feels very rooted in ~the nuclear family is the most important relationship a person can achieve~ and thus a need to fit everyone into traditional family roles (and in some cases that PLUS blatant homophobia) and it gives me a personal ick. Ew.
If you want to see quirky jamie & phoebe antics or roy and jamie bickering, Jamie x Roy's sister getting it on is in fact not actually necessary for any of that? (and imo doesn't add anything to anyone's arc) Going back to point one...using that pairing to get there feels TO ME very boring and sitcom cartoony.
(i also obviously dislike it for my personal shippy reasons and must acknowledge my bias. 🫡 Jamie dating his best friend's sister when he clearly has a crush on said best friend is a relationship-based mental low point/cry for help i do not actually want him to go through as my fav character, LOL.)
(disclaimer: people can of course feel differently and are entitled to ship whoever they want without even needing a clear reason or explanation! that's totally valid! i want to reiterate I don't think it's inherently problematic as a ship. I just personally think it's a rotten tomato of a plot point and i'm so beyond glad the show didn't waste time entertaining it.)

Dumb meaningless headcanon-
Roy constantly dunks on his sister because no matter how bad his handwriting is, hers is somehow worse.
What makes him extra insufferable is the fact that he can actually read it, he just pretends that he can’t to rile her up.
Like she leaves him a note for when he picks up Phoebe from school and brings her home, and halfway through her shift she gets a message that’s just a picture of her note—‘pull the chicken out to thaw’—and he’s all ‘’Phoebe’s flying to Thailand?’ Guess I’ll pack her bags.’ She’s texts back, ‘you’re not funny,’ and he replies, ‘no but I am rich and I just told her that you said you’re going on holiday. She’s very excited’
He ends up booking Phoebe and his sister a room at a fancy hotel with a full spa package for the weekend. Phoebe gets to order unlimited room service. She has a blast.

Spent a very pleasureable hour imagining Roy's sister's face when Phoebe tells her that she wants to invite Jamie to Uncle's Day because unlike Phoebe the good doctor knows that their relationship is hella lot more complicated than just 'best friends' and she is already lowkey giddy with excitement over how Roy is going to react to this because any day that annoys Roy is holiday to her, but at the same time she does adore her brother and wants him to be happy and it's not like Phoebe is wrong, is it, and it's just good to have Roy make a friend and be invested in something/someone again... Grumpy old twat needs it.
Just something about her knowing that this whole thing will both genuinely annoy and genuinly be nice for Roy. It's like a little sister's jackpot, isn't it?
Fucking brilliant. I adore Dr. O'Sullivan and is very happy this happened to her.

I love that the fans already predicted two years ago that Dr. O'Sullivan (I dunno her first name), the nice doctor who treated Sharon after her accident, is Roy's sister. The clue is her eyebrows (and Roy told Ted that her sister is a doc), heeee!

What order to listen to the 8th Doctor Big Finish Audio Drama
So I've seen lots of people asking what order to listen to the 8th Doctor audio dramas produced by Big Finish. There are some really good listening guides out there, but they're out of date.
So I present to you the 2024 8th Doctor Episode Chronology!
If you love the 8th Doctor or want to explore his stories but have no idea where to start, this is the list for you!
This is a living document. I haven't listened to everything yet, so some bits may need editing. It follows 8's personal timeline from his travels with Charley Pollard to his experiences in the Time War.
Comments are welcome and please share this link around :D

For the word game: future, past, dad
Thank you thank you :) Everything under the cut because they get long.
Future from there is no other land:
“I don’t think Jamie should play.” “Okay,” Ted said slowly. “You got a reason for that, Coach?” “If Jamie plays, he’s gonna get hurt.” “Well, Roy, as you know better than anyone, that’s a risk all them boys take when they step onto that field. I wish I could protect them, but if we go by that logic, then we wouldn’t be able to field a team today.” Fuck. How could Roy explain this? Outside of, hey, I actually already lived this, so I know if Jamie plays, we’ll win, but Jamie’s gonna fuck his ankle, and he’s already drowning on dry fucking land, maybe even more so than last time and it's my fault that everything’s gone to shit, but like I said I’m from the fucking future so just fucking trust me.  Somehow, Roy doesn’t think that would work.
Past, also from there is no other land:
“What do you mean you don’t remember?” Ruth asked, sitting back next to him at the table. “I don’t remember.” Could Roy tell his sister the truth? That he went to sleep, and it was the end of June, and he woke up in the fucking past? Could he tell her he woke up in a world where somehow everything had gone to shit. “What do you mean you don’t remember?” Ruth asked again, her brows knitting together. “Have you been having memory issues? What else don’t you remember?”
Oh boy, lots of Dads so I went with the one most likely the be published first, the final chapter of somebody you touch, but never hold:
Jamie might have fucked it with his apologies to Keeley, but he knows how to apologise to angry men. Years of backhands and finger-shaped bruises have taught him that lesson. Dad trained him right, didn’t he? Don’t make eye contact. Don’t disagree. Don’t talk back. Take your punishment like a man. Jamie hadn’t been too successful with following the rules last time. He screamed when Denbo snapped his wrist after all, cried and whimpered like a wee baby, cradling the broken limb to his chest, begging them to leave. Dad didn’t like that. But he still left then, once last punch delivered via his words rather than his fist. Screaming like a girl, you’re better than that Jamie. Fucking pathetic, that.  But Roy doesn’t react to an apology the same way his Dad does. Roy just nods and says, “Thank you.” Jamie doesn’t know what to do with that.

Delightful details from Uncle's Day:
Roy's sister blowing the party horn just as enthusiastically as Phoebe
Phoebe calling her mum 'mummy'
Her mum calling her 'Phoe'
The actress having similar high-note / mannerism to Phoebe when going down the list of Phoebe's Favorite Holidays
"Any day that annoys Roy, holiday for meee~!" with the pointed sibling grin
Phoebe's handmade, handdrawn Uncle's Day sign
A collection of novelty / graphic mugs
Rose-tinted wine glasses on the cabinet
How cosy and warm their home looks. It's not loud but its colorful and bright. Butterfly decals decorating the walls with no rhyme or reason. Full of toys and a big ol' calendar on the fridge and just. Signs of a kid lives here.
"She might be an old soul, but she's a proper fucking dweeb, isn't she?"
The implied agreement between Roy and his sister that Phoebe is an old soul
"Is that your Range Rover outside as well?" I fucking love him so much
The way it looks like Phoebe was dragging Jamie forward by the hand
They planned this
"Hello, Uncle Roy"
His sister not chiming in at all. Just snacking away
"Who's your best friend, Jamie?" "Probably Isaac." "Fuck off."
The gift. THE GIFT
Jamie immediately jumps explain the gift the second it's opened
THE SINCERITY. "I GOT THEM TO CHANGE THE 'E' TO A 'U'."
The fried eggs on the wrapping paper of Phoebe's gift
Roy's sister's face journey at the tie-dye shirt
Jamie's been here for 2 minutes and he's been fined twice
