I'm curious about Aubrey, Cian, Elam and Gabriel... 8

Aubrey (FA): It depends on the individual. They can easily fall into conversation with some and then there are others they would definitely rather avoid and struggle to get along with. Particularly they struggle with those people that think rather highly of themselves or think they are better than others. They make mixed impressions but in the end they often make a good to neutral impression.

Cian (VoS): Yes, he can get along with just about anyone and do so very easily. His charm goes along way in helping him with this. They pretty much always make a good impression.

Elam (TCH): They strive to get along with everyone but often they have little choices in how others get along with them and it is often others that make the relationship strained despite how hard Elam may try and make it work. Given the world they live in, they often make a very bad impression on most unless others are willing to let go of their prejudices.

Gabriel (CoP): They do not get along with many people at all and it takes a helluva lot of effort to get them to even attempt at getting them to even consider getting to know someone beyond a first meeting. They have few they are close to but are fiercely loyal to anyone they decide to open up to. Because they close themselves off and are brisk and prickly they often make a very bad first impression on others.

I've been in a very Trys/Nora mood lately lmao, so I'll answer for them!

OC writer asks

Marker: what's one thing your character would never tattoo on their body, even if they were paid a million dollars for it?

Nora -> Any fandom tattoos/one of those song lyrics/ quotes or something? She's pretty open to tattoos, but doesn't know where to start but will definitely not start with anything pop culture (-> mostly because she's very out of the loop)

Trys -> Getting people's names tattooed. Doesn't matter if it is an ex-partners or a current partner an old friend or "I love Mom" or whatever, no. People's names aren't his jam. As a matter of fact I think they'd probably go for designs and such.

Copics: what is this character's most expensive habit or hobby? Do they ever feel guilty about the money they spend on it?

Nora -> Granted movie tickets aren't in the hundreds per person, but Nora does love visiting the cinema whenever she gets an opportunity to. And it's pretty frequent. She doesn't feel guilty all that much, but cuts down if she has to. And she used to collect DVDs too at some point.

Trys -> A massive patron of the arts. Having run around in Sonja's group of friends for a few years, Trystan got into collecting pieces of art and supporting galleries and artists he liked. Of course, they were able to afford it (and no, he doesn't feel guilty lmao, they love art). Books too. Funding some art restoration projects, sponsoring some film festivals (after learning Nora's love for everything movies) and so on.

Photography: What's one moment from any of your fics that you feel is preserved in your memory?

I still think about Nora badly playing charades/pictionary signalling Trys if they could leave the party sooner in this fic. No matter who she is, this is the most human she's ever been and in her natural form (the epitome of girlfailure).

Felting: how often do you include soft moments when you write? Do these moments play a role in the main plot, or do you include them as an escape from the rest of the story?

I honestly don't know lol. I guess these days I don't include as many soft moments as I'd like to, but if it does it definitely plays a role in the story. I love to talk about how it manifests in Trys & Nora - in Trystan, he is at the peak of his unadulterated kindness that you have ever seen - they carry an insane amount of empathy. In Nora, soft moments are when she's articulate, she says what she means, she offers a lending ear first. It is so intertwined with their respective character arcs and I don't really see soft moments as constrained to like, 'hurt/comfort', etc. etc.

Creative!: free space! share something you've been dying to share about your writing! Could be an OC that never gets the limelight, a moment you were proud of, or anything else you'd like to share:

A trope/mechanic that gets me invested and seated everytime is the "character is borderline supernatural-y good with a skill but it's the most useless thing you've ever seen". Nora has a precise, picture-perfect aim when it comes to tossing things but she never gets to use it unless she's playing a game or something. Trystan is a overlord at sleight of hand tricks, esp with dice but doesn't get much use out of it either (and it's a hit or miss sometimes).

I love giving characters completely useless skills sometimes. For eg, my VoS mc, Aloka can differentiate between different types of crows but only crows. Rowan (Mah) does a lot of wheelies on her bike (only wheelies) but in the future wouldn't even need a bike to commute. Killian has a very good memory but only in ballad/song-form, so she'd have to come up with complicated rhyme schemes to remember anything.

I feel like every character needs a useless skill or two.

What books are your MC's and their LI's currently reading? What music are they currently listening to?

Trystan is a fan of the Aubrey–Maturin series, so he's deep into All Hands On Deck: A Modern-Day High Seas Adventure to the Far Side of the World by Will Sofrin.

Emma is absorbed by Letters from an Actor by William Redfield. She loves learning about the behind-the-scenes of famous productions, and she adores epistolary books.

As for music, Trystan continues to favor classical, whereas Emma is going through a Hozier phase.

15. Do they always say ‘i love you’ before leaving?

they don't actually. i love you has some significant meaning to both of them. it's never been a familiar term for jensen; it wasn't something he ever heard from his mom, occasionally liyah but more in a casual way. for bryce, he grew up hearing it from his parents, but he also heard them say it to each other. it never had any meaning, though. it was just a routine, and he never really liked it especially after everything that happened w them

for jensen and bryce, it holds a lot of meaning. the first time bryce said it, it honestly wasn't a huge deal? like it was very natural to both of them, but that's bc it was at an appropriate time. as time goes on, they use it during other significant, appropriate times. they don't say it every time they leave, or at the end of every phone call, but they say it when it matters. it wasn't something they ever agreed on, but they didn't need to bc theyre both on the same page about it

16. Can they stay up all night just talking?

absolutely. they talk about everything and anything all the time, and that actually includes both of them. usually bryce is the chatty one and jensen is content to listen, but when they're deep into a conversation jensen is happy to engage bc he's comfortable w bryce in that sense

44. Who would dance in the kitchen making dinner? Would the other join in or watch from the doorway?

though you may assume it would be bryce, this is 1000% jensen. not only does bryce not cook (or "helps" by sitting on the counter and getting in the way), but jensen also just,, loves food. so fucking much. he literally gets so excited about food and cooking and eating and literally anything related to food. he will do his happy little food dances and shit and when he's cooking he always has music on too. usually bryce just stands in the doorway all heart eyes but ofc he joins occasionally (especially if it's a good song)

51. What’s a non verbal way they say I love you?

for jensen it's def little kisses to bryces shoulder or hand. jensen is more physically affectionate than verbally affectionate, so little gestures like that mean a lot to him. besides that though, he also loves making things for bryce, particularly food he likes or just little things that he think he'd like

for bryce it's just the subtle little squeezes/half hugs that he gives jensen. if they're walking or sitting next to each other he'll squeeze jensens arm gently or set his hand on his back, stuff like that. jensen really doesn't like people in his space or touching him, but bryce is the exception to that, so he actually likes when he does it. as for other stuff, he loves giving jensen compliments and telling him how proud he is of him. those things are just as important to jensen so they mean as much as an I love you would

Let's Hear it for the Boys is a two-week event where we encourage our talented creators to submit their fanfics that celebrate the friendships of the guys of Choices!

We will be hosting a" For the Girls" and "Friends Forever" event in future months. But this time, it's the guys' turn to shine!

The event will run from September 11, 2022 - September 24, 2022 October 1, 2022

All participants will be placed in a raffle for a fanart from the lovely and talented @bayleedrawsx ! The winner will be selected via a spin of the wheel on Sunday, September 25th. October 2, 2022.

While the event is focused on the guys, you can have any gender friends included in the group. However, at least one main character must be male.

Your characters can be from any Choices story.

The friendship can be from canon, but it doesn't have to be.

Evie is particularly fond of overcast weather and rain. She loves the thought of spending a day outdoors with Aiden during overcast weather, as well as staying inside together during a very rainy day.

Aiden also likes overcast weather and doesn't care for snow and rain, but he feels Evie being around makes any kind of weather good.

They both dance with each other while making food sometimes. Once this has led to the food burning on the stove.

a/n: way back when some anon asked for ‘prompt 47′ and my dear @dr-colossal-pita went through all the recent prompt lists and collated all the #47s. Ren, this drabble’s for you! 💖

They’re sitting at his preferred table at his preferred coffee shop with the greatest vantage for people watching. And they are - have been assessing the orders and feelings of Derry Roaster customers for the last fifteen minutes. An odd companionship brewing between them. 

“I’m observant,” she follows up her latest appraisal. 

Across the table from her, he raises an eyebrow coaxing her to make an observation of him. Definitely not free from judgment, but Odette persists. A wry smile on her face as took him in - the angular shoulders, stoic, unyielding expression, wrists resting at the edge of the table - and added it to everything she’s already learned about Dr. Ramsey the last few weeks. 

“I think you’re lonely.” 

His eye’s bore into hers. A beat of silence barely passes. “Once again, Rookie, you’re only half right. And half counts for nothing.” 

Odette goes to speak, to retort that given a little more time she would have him figured out. There’s nothing truly enigmatic about Dr. Ramsey. If anything, he’s trying too hard to seem mysterious and have as much personality as a stone statue put on a pedestal. But Odette’s lips barely part before Dr. Ramsey is speaking once more. 

“We’ve been gone long enough. Time to get back to work.” 

Her assessment niggles him the rest of the day. There is no reason the uneducated words of an intern should get under his skin. But it does. Four words calling him out - rooting and wrapping themselves around all those insecurities he’s buried deep.  

Ethan avoids his insipid intern the rest of the day. Not purposefully, splendidly. She spent the rest of the day on rotation in the emergency room and he had enough diagnostic work to attend to in Naveen’s steed. 

When he sees Dr. Hall again she’s sitting in the courtyard with her cohorts. He wouldn’t have noticed if they weren’t being so loud - the surgeon and Dr. Varma having a row as blaring as the clap of thunder. Nor would he have deigned her with any attention if he wasn’t meeting someone here too. If he didn’t have her standing a step away. 

Over the shoulder of his date, Ethan’s eyes meet Odette’s across the courtyard. She looks from the blonde before him and back to him. Ethan craves to wipe that tattling smirk from her face. She doesn’t know him and he’s glad to prove her theory wrong. 

So Ethan Ramsey does something he has never done in the public workplace before. His hands reach out. One arm wrapping around Daphne’s waist, pulling her close until there’s little distance between them. The most brazen he’s ever been on these premises in recent years.   

He kisses Daphne. Deeply. Languidly. Intentionally. He can feel tens of pairs of eyes on him as their mouths move together. 

Ethan’s the one to pull away first. 

“Dr. Ramsey,” Daphne breathes in that facetious way of hers, stars twinkling in her blue eyes, “you’ve finally rendered me speechless.” 

He pecks her once more. Then offers his arm. “Shall we?” 

Behind Daphne he can see the disbelieving expressions on the interns faces.

Nora doesn't have a preference really, but if she has to pick, she'll go with hand kisses. Trystan's a 'just kiss me damn it' person.

Nora would lean against the armrest if she isn't willing to stand. She prefers standing anyway and her feet is in such a stance where she's always on combat mode. Trystan likes to hover over the chair, rest his chin against the other's head and perform insane contortions but won't pull up a second chair.

17. Who steals whose clothes? Does their significant other mind?

Trystan does. Mostly because Nora has a wardrobe of unisex, loose-fitting clothes. He tells her he wants to try it on, but ends up stealing them because they smell nice.

45. What's the worst thing the other can say to one?

To Nora -> "I don't think your parents would be happy about that." To Trystan -> "You're not just stuck in the past, you've died there."

Nora's entire life started from wanting to seek revenge and closure of her parent's passing. Telling her her dad wouldn't approve is the worst way to tick her off. Trystan, who will do anything to move on from his past - the regrets, the lies and if you are ever in the mood of wrecking him into pieces, it'd be to bring up the fact that he's desperate.

62. How would outside characters describe their relationship?

Mafalda would agree they make "a team". Tommy would say the same. Not necessarily a good one since they should be grateful to be alive to just run on each other's impulses.

Luke and Ruby would shrug and agree on- "What isn't their relationship? Friends, enemies - they're checking off a list at this point."

The others would agree that they're just two clowns put together in a room. (others being 'me')

Did your oc have a lot of friends at school?

Emma never had a ton of friends, but she did have a few good ones. After her father's death, however, she retreated into herself and her old friends eventually gave up trying to reach her. She had people she was friendly with in high school, but she didn't really make friends again until halfway through college. Even then, they were casual friends, and there are only two people she's stayed in touch with.

Raine didn't go to school in the traditional way, but if that girl's awake and out in the world, she's making friends. They may not all be deep friendships, but she genuinely likes and is interested in people, so people usually like her in return. She's also the kind of person who, if she sees someone looking sad, she'll plaster herself to them and either listen (if they want to talk) or tell terrible knock-knock jokes (if they don't) until they crack a smile.

Sydney would kill Ethan if he knew he was working on his day off, but he had a deadline and he didn’t want to leave this to the last minute. So, Ethan was sitting at the desk in his home office, writing. He was almost done with the first draft of his second book. He was on the last chapter and really just wanted to power through. He was in the zone, the words flowing on the page.

He barely even noticed when Burrito jumped onto the desk. He would’ve ignored the cat, except Burrito walked across the keyboard, typing a string of random letters and special characters into Ethan’s document.

“What are you doing?” Ethan asked, causing Burrito to turn and face him. Burrito stepped towards Ethan, pressing more keys. He rubbed his head against Ethan’s chest and Ethan instinctively reached out to pet the top of Burrito’s head. “I would love nothing more than to spoil you with attention, but it’s going to have to wait until later.”

Ignoring Ethan’s comment, Burrito simply jumped onto Ethan’s lap and curled up, purring. Ethan sighed and scratched Burrito’s head. “Well at least you aren’t on my keyboard anymore.” Ethan deleted the string of gibberish Burrito had typed and continued working on his manuscript. 

It took a while, but Ethan eventually got back in the zone, just writing, paying no attention to how much time had passed. He had no idea how long he’d been writing for nor how long Burrito had been laying on his lap. 

Ethan had been surprised when they got their first cat, Caramel, at how much she liked him and how much he liked her. He had never been big on pets, especially as an adult. He just felt he didn’t have the time to take care of one. Nevertheless, Sydney had managed to convince him to adopt her. Getting a pet together was one of their first big relationship milestones. Ethan had never thought they would get a second cat, but Sydney said Caramel needed a friend and Ethan begrudgingly agreed, so they adopted Burrito as a celebration for their first wedding anniversary. Once again he was shocked by how much the kitten liked him. Despite the cats being Sydney’s idea, they had both taken a liking to Ethan instead. They loved Sydney too of course, but Ethan was their favorite. Sydney said it was because Ethan was softer and therefore more comfortable, but Ethan didn’t care what the reason was, he didn’t understand why they chose him when Sydney was the one who really wanted them. But even then, Ethan had grown to love them. 

Sydney referred to the cats as “their children,” since they weren’t planning to have any. At first Ethan thought it was ridiculous, but over time he realized just how similar the cats were to human babies. They would scream for all the same reasons babies cry – hunger, attention, just generally needing help. Although he wasn’t confident in his abilities in the beginning, Ethan now loved taking care of them and was actually pretty good at it.

It only took Ethan another hour to finish his manuscript draft, but by the time he finished, Burrito was still curled up on his lap. He sighed, but was thankful he had a book to read right on his desk so he didn’t have to get up and disturb Burrito. Ethan leaned back in his chair, carefully putting his feet on the desk so as to disturb Burrito as little as possible while still getting into a more comfortable reading position. Thankfully, Burrito just cuddled against Ethan in this new position, still asleep. Ethan smiled to himself and opened his book.

A while later, Sydney finally got home from his shift at the hospital and was surprised to only see Caramel lounging on the cat tree when he walked in the door. Usually, Ethan would be in the living room reading or watching a documentary.

“Babe?” Sydney called out.

“In here!” Ethan instinctively called back from the study. 

Sydney followed his voice into the study and found Ethan sitting back in his desk chair. “Were you working on your day off?”

“Yes, but I finished my first draft.” Ethan smiled. He knew Sydney wouldn’t stay mad at him. 

“Oh yay!” Sydney ran behind the desk to hug Ethan. “I’m still mad at you for working when you should be resting, but I’m also super proud of you. Oh! And I see Burrito is proud of you too!” Sydney reached down to pet Burrito in Ethan’s lap.

“I think he’s taking after you. He stepped on my keyboard and stood in front of the computer so I couldn’t work.”

“Aw, that’s my boy!” Sydney smiled, then said to Ethan, “Now let’s get you out of this office and go celebrate! Ooh, we can walk over to that new Mexican place!” 

“Of course you want to celebrate with food.” Ethan laughed.

Sydney pouted and responded, “I just got off a fourteen hour shift, okay? I’m hungry.”

“Okay, okay, but what are we going to do with this little burrito?” Ethan gestured to the cat still in his lap.

“I’ll take care of him.” Sydney dramatically swooped Burrito up and out of Ethan’s lap. “It’s my turn with Daddy now, okay?” Sydney said to the cat, carrying him out of the room. Ethan followed him and watched as he placed Burrito on the couch. Sydney turned to Ethan and said, “Let’s go!” 

Before they reached the door, Burrito, who had jumped off the couch and ran ahead, did. He looked back at them as they approached and once Ethan was close enough, rubbed his head against his leg. Ethan chuckled and reached down to pick up Burrito. He hugged him to his chest and looked at Sydney. “Maybe we should just order takeout tonight.” 

Sydney laughed and said, “Okay, babe, whatever you want. Or whatever Burrito wants, I suppose.”
