your analysis on the black egg was super cool!! and it got me thinking, what are your thoughts on the role of the ancient bug corpse that houses the egg in all of this?? so, why PK chose it specifically, and if it somehow was a good place to make an elaborate void construct powered by seals in, etc

In universe, there's no real way to know

Maybe it was the only unoccupied space large enough to house the egg

Maybe the egg or the chamber at its core was already there, like the weird chamber where the shade spawns in the colosseum of fools, and it was later repurposed for the seal

Maybe the location has relation with how they sealed Radiance in the first place

But the location is rather unassuming, being pretty much a commonly transited route not that close to crystal peak or in some sort of center

Not really helpful to dispell the mystery, but I personally like to think/headcanon that the corpse was that of an ancient caterpillar (Bardoon shows us caterpillars can get really large in this world). Some of the soul totems seem to depict caterpillars as well, famous example being the dragonhead caterpillar.

The horns all over the temple makes me think strongly of this one (I search it up under the name of dragon caterpillar (not to confuse with dragonhead) but honestly I'm not sure if that's the actual name)

With the upcoming release of RATATAN, the spiritual successor of the beloved Patapon franchise- the kickstarter fully funded in less than an hour!!- I made my own little Ratatans! :D

First is my personal Ratatan- Mystivitan, the Fox Ratatan, wielder of the Harpsicleaver- a big knife that can be used to slice and dice opponents, but also unfolds at the hilt into a harp! Mysti also uses the cleaver to carve up their kills and cook for her Cobun >u< She specializes in hitting hard and fast, but has low overall defense and HP; her attacks have a higher chance of granting rare loot and extra money. Themed after a silver-patterned fox, Mysti wears big puffy sleeves to protect from the weather, and her special skill is to momentarily summon spectral wings for her and her Cobun troops, allowing them to strike airborne enemies!

Second is admittedly me pandering exclusively to myself; I made a Ratatan version of my favorite character from the franchise, Gong the Hawkweye- now Dragongaton, wielder of the scythe Whirlwind! Much like his inspiration, Dragong is a high-defense high-resistance combatant with a focus on stun and knockback. He wears the skull and mandible of a dragon he defeated in combat- mostly to hide the fact that he's a bug lmao. I designed him after a Dragonheaded Caterpillar, to keep with the original Zigoton bug theme! He issues commands with his gong shield and wind chimes, which can also generate tornadoes when rung.

Sometimes Scarab has to take a pause from watching over Liam to do some of his Auditor work. He gave them a personal crystal that can contact him, in case of emergencies. Though Scarab gave all of them the heads up to not refer to him by name when contacting him.

Working on designing some disguises for him too for future comics! This one's face is based off a Dragonhead Caterpillar.

This is a Charaxes jasius caterpillar, also known as a two-tailed pasha. Caterpillars of this genus are commonly referred to as dragonhead caterpillars, and are much more commonly spread throughout Africa, south Asia, and Australia as opposed to this southern European species.

This one was on a strawberry tree, its primary (and possibly only) host plant. Unfortunately it was gone the day after I found it, so I didn't get to monitor its growth or even take some better pictures on a less windy day. On the bright side, strawberry trees are very common around here, with multiple sprouts having grown since last year, and I plan on looking for more this winter.
