I have told and retold their stories in many forms. The most recent version of my retelling has been to put them on a blog site for others to enjoy. The response to the retelling of the lives of my family has been surprising and inspiring. People from all over have been fascinated by the lives they led. Without knowing what I do for a living, some viewers suggested a couple be turned into films. Between their reaction to the stories and their compliments and approval of my writing style, that audience inspired me with their awesome idea. These stories really should be brought back to life. Here are a few of my shots of the legendary mid-century beauty and silver screen siren Mamie Van Doren at the the Palm Springs Historical Society Celebrating Mamie Van Doren's life at the Andreas Hotel in Palm Springs for the Opening Retrospective Exhibition at the McCallum Adobe Museum. I’ve included a couple shots of Mamie at Hollywood Post 43 at the American Legion’s “The Commander's Ball” that Honored Mamie Van Doren for her service in Vietnam. I added a photo of Harrison Held and Kathleen Hughes from that night too who brought me in to photograph this amazing evening with Mamie. One thing I can say about my experiences with Mamie is she has lived in the mightiest of ways her whole life and is keenly engaged with living right now! She is politically, culturally and intellectually plugged in, in ways few 90 year olds I’ve ever known. Her takes on culture are vibrantly refreshing and insightful. On top of that she is Hollywood royalty and a Hollywood legend. Her stories are some of the riveting and inspiring I’ve ever heard.
