i hate the v3 ending personally, so i just keep thinking about an alternative where the v3 kids are actual ultimates, escaped a classic killing game, are rescued by the FF somehow, and then move to jabberwock island with the remnants cause its really the only safe place for them. they could get along
hajime and shuichi are detective bros! they bond over generally everything/the kg/same worldviews so thats a given. himiko and gundham talk about magic and animals, shes always in awe by his swag. peko and maki are both assassins + struggle with an understanding of themselves + are generally protective and serious so they get eachother

You know I've seen quite a few people say they're wanting to make v3 rewrites lately--and as someone who is actively working on one by myself, I feel like I should give some advice. I know I'm nowhere NEAR done with Twins AU, but I've made a ridiculous amount of progress and I think these things have greatly helped me out personally
So here are my tips for making a V3 rewrite and actually making it stick/not to burn out before the first chapter!
This is important. Don't try to please everyone. You will never please everyone. Write this for yourself, and you will find an audience. People can and will hate your fic no matter what you do. Don't try to please them, they are not your target audience-- so Write this story for, first and foremost, yourself. It'll feel so much more rewarding if you do I promise.
V3's main theme is extremely muddied due to how the narrative was and how open ended the game was left, and from my own research, no one can agree on what V3 was trying to say about truth and lies, or Reality and Fiction. If you want to rewrite this story, you're going to need to narrow down what you want your rewrite to say about the themes presented.
PLAN THE EVIDENCE AND MURDERS AS THOROUGHLY AS YOU CAN. I think not knowing what I was going to do for the cases and trials really scared me for the longest time until I essentially sat myself down and fleshed out all of the cases for Twins AU. Make evidence lists, do research on how your murder cases might go, the works. It's a lot of work but I personally followed this post and also made an evidence list to help me out plot out the murders for Twins AU. This is also a great way to flesh out your protagonist as well, since you get to explore their note-taking style and what kind of language they'd use for taking notes and if they have opinions about certain things.
Write a summary of each character in the story. DR games have a big cast and V3 has an even BIGGER cast than usual, so it's good to write down summaries for all of the characters. I also suggest really studying each character too, even if you plan on changing a character to better suit your tastes (or to get rid of offensive material.... looking at you Angie) you still want to keep the core of their character intact for fans of that character.
Speaking of characters, make sure to try and remember to write each one as a human being, even if they aren't human (Kiibo for example). Develop them, give them quirks and flaws, motivations and wants and desires and dreams. Even if you hate a character, doing this much character study will help you keep them in character and keep their motivations reasonable and understandable.
If you don't have a good grasp on a character, study harder. Don't go looking for other people's interpretations or try to be a crowd pleaser. Make your own interpretation, and that interpretation becomes special to your rewrite.
If you plan on changing a character, for the love of GOD do your research first. Don't go accidentally making Angie into a worse racist caricature of Pacific Islanders Please and Thank You. Actually, just do a ton of research in subject you think might be relevant to a character or the plot--like Gonta and how ableism prevails in his story. Like how Shuichi has anxiety up the wazoo and how Maki has learned helplessness. Study and research hard.
Pace yourself--I don't think people realize how GIANT a V3 rewrite project is--remember that this game is extremely long and you cannot write this in a single month. Once all of your planning is done, write a reasonable amount for it each day. For me, I'm able to crank out 2k a day because I type absurdly fast, but most people would probably want to start at maybe 500 words a day.
If you're not having fun, step back. You might be burnt out and need a break, or maybe the scene you're writing is just not working. Take time to assess your own feelings and do what is appropriate to resolve them.
Don't feel too discouraged if you need to rewrite a whole scene--it happens to the best of us and sometimes things are just not working. It's not lost progress to retry--consider the scene you are replacing as a rough draft you need to remake. I've had to erase huge 1k chunks due to this.
Reward yourself for big accomplishments! When I finished the prologue, I threw myself and my editor ( @trans-shuichisaihara ) a pizza party, and I plan on doing something like that again, albeit probably cheaper. Reward yourself for huge milestones! Hell, I owe myself at least one treat for two chapters I've written, but tbh I've been having so much fun just writing that doing so is rewarding within itself. That doesn't mean external factors can't help, so if you finish a chapter and you're proud of it, buy yourself a treat for working so hard!
If you got a friend who likes editing/beta reading, invite them to beta read for you! They can help you find errors and typos that you might've missed. If you plan on editing your fic, I highly recommend reading your writing out loud to help you find weird sentence structures and awkward phrases. This should have the bonus of making it easier for people who use screen readers/just prefer audiobooks to enjoy your fic as well!
EDIT! Here are two more:
It's okay to be scared writing something new! Getting out of your comfort zone is going to happen with a giant story like this, and maybe you're going to flop at the best parts. That's perfectly fine!!! You can always edit it later--or even just call it "good enough" and move on! This is fanfic for fun, not a professional project you're making money off of. It's okay if things are less than ideal and incredible imperfect. An imperfect story is at least written. That's better than not writing it at all.
For the love of everything that is holy, remember that the characters should be people--and remember that their talents do not make up their entire personality. Their talents should not solely dictate what they wear, how they act, or the worst offender in this fandom--how their executions go. When writing a character Execution, think instead of what would be the worst way for that character to die--that is to say, what would bring them the most despair upon their death. DR1 and DRV3's executions all play with the despair of the blackened in each execution (with DR2 being noted to heavily miss the mark and to be the set of executions that are the most disappointing to Kodaka, from what I've been told.) So if you're stuck on writing a new Execution, try to think about what each execution from DR1 and DRV3 does to play with the despair of the blackened. What about their executions are giving them despair in their final moments? Do they at all relate to their talents, or are they completely separate from their talent? Study them, and you'll be able to use that information to write your own unique executions that are miles better than most of the fan made executions out there.
And I think that's my advice for now! Happy writing, everyone!

My writing of a v3 pregame AU:
The way ppl in 2020/2021 wrote pregame made me really confused because they said stuff like “oh it’s the opposite of the imgame” then made it not the opposite whatsoever so here’s my pregame rewrite or headcanon or au or whatever you want to call it
Shuichi Saihara
in the fanon of pregame he’s seen as this abusive masocist sadist manipulator but here I’m just gonna make him an autistic outcast that kinda sits at the back of his class drawing stuff of his danganronpa hyperfixation on the corner of his worksheets, he’s very online and makes theories on a blog about danganronpa, he has alot of online mutuals but not alot of real friends. His biggest fear is being seen as “just okay”.
Kokichi Ouma
In the fanon pregame kokichi is seen as this helpless little baby but in mine to contrast the ingame he’d be alot more social and trustworthy, one of the popular kids but not in a mean way, he has a little crew of friends he calls his “gang” but in reality all they do is like hang out on weekends. His biggest fear is accidentally hurting someone.
Kaede Akamastu
In fanon pregame kaede is seen as this bully but in mine she’d be struggling with mental health alot and stay in her bed for most of the time, she doesn’t really like people and has trust issues but she follows Shuichi’s danganronpa blog and supports him all the way. Her biggest fear is being gaslit or tricked.
Kaito Momota
In fanon pregame Kaito is seen as this bully thats always beating up kokichi but in mine he’d be reserved and quiet, on a few sports teams but nothing too exceptional to be noticed, he envy’s kokichi and his popularity. He wants to be popular and have friends but his social anxiety permits that. His biggest fear is being seen as an idiot.
Maki Harukawa
I don’t know much about fanon pregame maki. In mine she’s a top student but very reserved, she’s often a target for bullies (when she signed up for danganronpa she wanted a talent that could protect her) but doesn’t let it get to her. She’s relatively good friends with Kaito and more social than her ingame personality. Her biggest fear is losing herself.
Miu Iruma
In my au pregame Miu would be very focused on her grades but often has trouble grasping the material, she spends alot of time in the library alone, definitely an outcast. Her biggest fear is not having a job in the future and having to sell her body.
Rantaro Amami
In my au rantaro is a very nervous and uptight person, very rule bent. He is a relatively good student and admires Maki. He is always on Kaede’s tail for either showing up late or not showing up at all. His biggest fear is letting his guard down and getting hurt because of it.
K1-B0 (aka Kiibo)
In my au kiibo is not a robot but has an intense intrest in technology and AI. He mainly spends time in the computer room hacking stupid stuff onto it. He is a relatively relaxed person that doesn’t care about much, a little bit selfish too. He keeps all of his pictures and information neatly organized in files on his computer at home. His biggest fear is breaking a device to the extent that it loses everything on it.
Gonta Gokuhara
In my au Gonta is an outcast, big nature lover tree hugger and is ostracized for this, he fears technology. He is very self centered and forgets to think about others sometimes, he mainly spends his time in the school garden helping bugs off the pathway. His biggest fear is robots taking over the world.
Korekiyo Shinguji
In my au korekiyo would be chronically ill, having to be taken care of by his older sister (whom he has a completely platonic relationship with) because of this he mainly spends time in the library researching about anthropology, he keeps to himself and doesn’t like to talk too much. His biggest fear is losing his sister.
Ryoma Hoshi
In my Au ryoma would be a very caring person, on the tennis team but not extraordinary at it, very social and friendly and has a good relationship with Kokichi. Very content with his life but is envious of taller people and always strives to be a better tennis player. His biggest fear is being isolated from society.
Kirumi Tojo
In my au Kirumi is a very nice person who usually makes plans for her friends, she loves cleaning and helping out with the little things, very social. Her biggest fear is being in power.
Himiko Yumeno
Himiko is a very isolated person so she uses magic and card tricks to try and get people to like her, she tries very hard to be “cool” and “mysterious” but she always fails and ends up rambling endlessly about whatever she was thinking of that day. Her biggest fear is people thinking her magic is real.
Angie Yonaga
Angie is a transfer student that joined a while back, she doesn’t talk alot and has a bit of religious trauma. she loves any kind of art and her main specialty is sculpting, she has trouble grasping other forms of art. Her biggest fear is Cults.
Tsumugi Shirogane
Tsumugi is a very reserved and doesn’t talk alot, but when she is talked to she could ramble on about cosplay forever. She uses cosplay as an escape from the world. She tries her hardest to be the kindest she can be, but she struggles with intrusive thoughts and emotions alot. Her biggest fear is being the villain.
Tenko Chabashira
Tenko is a calm and collected person or at least she tries to be, she gets angry easily and uses martial art to blow of steam. She has a bit of trauma which makes her untrusting of alot of men, but she’s trying to get help and is trying to befriend more male students. Her biggest fear is letting her trauma get in the wayof her relationships.
And thats it! I made their personalities actually the opposite of their ingame. This took a while and no one is gonna read this but thats okay.

Chapter 5 au where instead of Maki breaking into the hangar, it's Tsumugi. She breaks in using an Exisal but doesn't reveal herself. Instead, she uses the voice changer using Maki's voice so both Kaito and Kokichi think she's inside. Tsumugi wounds Kokichi using the Exisal's gun and tries to kick-start another trial because everyone is too depressed to do anything (including Maki, hence why Tsumugi has taken matters into her own hands.) She leaves pretty soon afterwards, assuming Kaito will sort everything out (Kaito tells 'Maki' to leave, promising her everything will be okay.) Kaito and Kokichi are still both alive but Kokichi is gravely wounded and Kaito's illness is getting worse. Kokichi points out that it's strange 'Maki' didn't leave the Exisal and reluctantly reveals he thinks the true mastermind is trying to continue the game, bating Kaito to murder. Kaito believes him eventually and they both work together to trick the mastermind. I think they'd go down the hydraulic press mystery route, although there's a different outcome at the trial.
Stopping there because I kinda want to write this as a fic because I've already started to plan out what could happen lol

How I would rewrite the utilization and timing of Tenko's flipping ability (That also slightly changes the narrative.)
Tenko's flipping ability had the power to change the entire narrative of DRV3 but the game barely used it here's how it could have made a really impact.
This is an excerpt to a 25 page essay I wrote inspired by @whattheskyknows' post about the underutilization of Tenko’s flipping ability. Check out their original post below.
https://www.tumblr.com/whattheskyknows/766230450261884928/i-wish-drv3-utilised-tenkos-flipping-technique?source=share
The first reveal of Tenko’s ability
The first time Tenko’s power will be revealed is late chapter two early chapter three. Here she will flip Shuichi and Himiko just like in the original game, but this time instead of being the only time her ability is ultilized it will be used to give the player an inclination of Tenko’s power with characters that we already know enough about to deem Tenko’s analysis correct making her ability seem reliable and trustworthy.
The next time Tenko’s power will be utilized is in the middle of chapter three.
Maki's flip
Here she would flip Maki. I know you probably think I don’t know if that would work out, etc., but at this point, Maki is getting closer to Kaito and Shuichi, and even though Tenko was one of the many people who were wary of Maki after her talent reveal she did eventually come around and had a nice chat with Maki in chapter three.
Tenko could guise it as sparring, especially after her dojo opened up and flipped Maki telling her something along the lines of:
“You hide from us because you believe that we’ll all hate you, but Tenko can tell, deep down, you’re a caring girl, Maki. You’re afraid, just like the rest of us, afraid of hurting your loved ones, which is why you lie to build up walls. You don’t want us to shun you, and you don’t want any more blood on your hands, at least not if you don’t have to.”
And then Maki would obviously (and understandably) be shocked, probably asking Tenko how she knew that just by flipping her.
I think the two would grow closer and make that conversation between them before Angie’s death a bit more impactful.
Either Shuichi would have to be in the room or Maki would have to tell him (and Kaito) after the fact since Shuichi is the protagonist and we find out all the information through him, and then he would do that thing where he has a thought or an internal monologue, but it pops up as text that reads:
‘It’s nice that those two are getting along with their combined strength; we might be able to find a way out of here.’
Kokichi’s flip
Next would be Kokichi, which wouldn't be an on screen moment like Maki's because Kokichi dropping his mask is a big reveal for the end of the game.
Tenko would either flip Kokichi out of pure annoyance or reluctant curiosity, then say:
"Tenko can see you're putting up a villainous facade, but she can tell that there’s more behind it."
And Kokichi gets so scared that he’s vulnerable and just runs away.
Maybe he even writes on his little whiteboard an insult under Tenko’s name, then erases it and writes interesting or useful under it.
They can then have little interactions where they talk, combining their skills to try and figure out the mastermind or the truth of the game, and we see them getting closer to each other.
Then I wrote two separate storylines because I love Tenko so much I created two alternate universes for her ability to be used correctly, and I wanted to make this harder for myself because I can't take the easy way out.
Here's how Tenko’s flipping ability could play out in two possible narratives option being closer to the canon and option two deviating further from it.
Option one:
Tenko dies like she was supposed to and all the secrets die with her. Kokichi and Maki are upset, but of course, in typical fashion, don’t show it in front of the others.
After Tenko’s death, Tsumugi looks happy/relieved, and Kokichi gets suspicious, but it’s not enough evidence to determine anything yet.
In late chapter three or early chapter four, before everything happens, Kokichi finds out that Tsumugi was happy Kiyo killed Tenko because she found out too much and goes into his plan even more determined to end the killing game and get revenge on Tsumugi for everything she's done to them (and Tenko).
Option two:
Kiyo kills Angie locked room mystery style, he then tries to kill Tenko but it fails (it still hit her in the arm or a non-vital part of the neck.) Tenko still dies, though, and everyone believes that it was from blood loss.
Later Kokichi discovered that Tsumugi killed Tenko using the power of the first-come, first-served rule to save herself because Tenko flipped her and found out way too much.
Kokichi would then find out and confront Tsumugi in a confrontation that would go something like:
“You did it, didn’t you?” Kokichi said, his voice filled with emotion, Tsumugi turned around, confused and angry. "You killed her."
Here bits of Kokichi's mask would start to drop , the usual mischievous smirk replaced with a rage-filled scowl.
Tsumugi would walk closer, their faces almost touching.
“She was learning too much, sticking her nose into places it didn’t belong. The game wouldn’t have been as fun if there was a reveal so early… I had to get rid of her; she was a threat to me. You understand, don’t you, Ouma?” (referencing chapter four).
Kokichi would then curse her out and say something along the lines of he'll ruin Tsumugi's game for her and everyone watching, either Tsumugi directly or the cameras, and continue his plan to end the game.
Tsumugi would then either be amused that Kokichi would try or genuinely concerned seeing Kokichi as a threat and trying to stop him herself, once again changing the narrative.
This one is especially nice because it shows the parallel of Kokichi and Tsumugi as a sheep in a wolf’s clothing and a wolf in a sheep’s clothing and also them both having scripts and doing whatever is necessary to make their narrative happen.
Kokichi is manipulating Gonta to kill Miu and Tsumugi killing Rantaro and framing it on Kaede.
This also gives Tsumugi more of a role as the mastermind in the game, also allowing Tenko to use her power multiple times without the consequences of an early reveal or boring game.
Then for either one or two, the ending would pretty much go the same except for maybe Tsumugi subtly mentioning that Tenko (and Kokichi) already found out a while ago, but the rest of the ending is perfect and wouldn’t be affected.
Conclusion
And that is a rewrite of how I think Tenko’s flipping ability could have been used to its full potential.
Of course, there were a few things that I couldn’t stress as much as I wanted to, like Tenko and Maki and Tenko and Kokichi's friendship, and the others would be like:
“Tenko and Kokichi/Maki are close these days, aren’t they?”
But this is getting long, so maybe I'll talk about it in another post.
Tenko had a really amazing power that had the chance to change the narrative and be a really cool arc, especially since she's a character that expresses her emotions wholeheartedly and wants others to do the same, but it instead was just like so many other things about Tenko's character overlooked, underutilized, and forgotten about, during and after its reveal.
Tenko deserved better. We deserved better and it's a shame to see such a great opportunity go to waste.
Tumblr media
And if anyone wants to read the full essay if requested I will make a comment or another post (unlikely though it's very long 😅)

Alright, so, today on Bandit does analysis, we're gonna talk about this scene right here:
Tumblr media
Where the Monokubs screwed up and didn't change any of these kids' costumes or download their first memory and do any brain rewriting and so they all woke up as still themselves in a scene that definitely wasn't supposed to happen at all, nuh-uh, nope.
Except.
I wanna talk about this.
Tumblr media
This right here.
Tsumugi having a normie outfit.
Like.
Why does this even exist.
If everyone was supposed to show up already in their new costumes with their new memories intact, then why does Tsumugi have a normie costume?
If this is a mistake, Tsumugi should be showing up in her Ultimate Cosplayer costume ready to go because everyone else should also be showing up as Ultimates. In fact, there's no reason for Tsumugi to not show up in her Ultimate costume. Even in the case of a mistake (as the Monokubs are assumed to have made), all of these kids are going to have their minds wiped anyway, so they won't remember Tsumugi was already in her costume.
There is no reason for Tsumugi to have this outfit.
Unless.
This scene was always supposed to be here.
The only people who Tsumugi would need to wear this costume for are the viewers, which means that this scene was definitely plotted, the kids were all definitely supposed to do this, and the viewers were meant to see it to set up for the reveal later on.
Which would mean that the reveal was always intended - at least by Tsumugi, even if not by Team Danganronpa themselves.
(It is entirely possible that Tsumugi has cobbled this outfit together from her personal cosplay; I think it was @funishment-time who pointed out that this looks extremely similar to Haruhi's sailor outfit, which would definitely keep it from being something the costuming department was aware of or made. The colors are different, but like. Tsumugi's a cosplayer; she's got the skills to change all that.)
OR.
Tsumugi's a normal student who had her mind rewritten just like everyone else in the Game did.
The Monokubs did screw up, and Tsumugi really wasn't writing any of this until she's well into the Game (and then they've downloaded what she needs to improv as she goes. and programmed Motherkuma to listen to her voice. ahead of time. somehow (seeing all the other stuff they're able to do, this probably isn't actually a stretch, just incredibly creepy)).
Tsumugi's just a normie like everyone else. Everything - everything - is fake, including Tsumugi herself.
Like, there is literally no other reason for Tsumugi to have that costume and show up in this scene wearing it. At least none that I can think of, although I'm sure someone else can/will, and I'm. super looking forward to that, actually! Because I look forward to other opinions!
But. Yeah. Analysis done. For now.

Hello! @goblin-the-clown here! This is a sideblog dedicated to my danganronpa v3 killing harmony rewrite project! I'll mainly be posting art, random ideas and rambles and new chapters when they eventually come out ^_^ Anyway this is the intro post :
‼️Disclaimer‼️ This rewrite is being made for fun, although danganronpa definitely has it's flaws this is not an attempt to fix it whatsoever, thanks!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/64676761
Here's the link to what I have of the rewrite so far!! Hopefully new chapters will be coming out soon!!
You can ask any of the v3 characters (-Monokuma, the monokubs don't count they don't exist in the rewrite) anything as long as it isn't explicit or nsfw! You can also make art requests and even send fanart via asks if you'd like!
Link to all of the character profiles!
I don't have a DNI I'll block you if you're mean or I just don't like you
Anyway that's all for now! Bye!

SaiOuma Screenplay Segment
I'm trying to write more screenplay type stuff and was curious what would happen if I tried putting the infamous "I got rejected" scene from DRV3 chapter 4 into screenplay format, so... here it is. The dialogue is exactly the same as it was in-game, but I definitely took some... liberties with the staging since the game has literally nothing.
(I'm not sure if this is the best format for posting??? Maybe I'll experiment in the future. Let me know what you think)
INT. SALON - NIGHT A dusty carpet serves as the centerpiece in the old room. Its green accents are the most colorful thing around even despite their age. In contrast, there is a sparkling telephone atop a brand-new table in the corner of the room.
The only remaining students in the room are Shuichi and Kokichi who let tension exist between them as a third party, the telephone equidistant.
Shuichi begins to say something before Kokichi takes the space.
KOKICHI Oh, Shuichi, you can log out before me. I'm sure your detective's intuition is kicking in, right?
Kokichi saunters over to the table and presents the phone with a gesture, a mostly innocuous grin painted on his face.
KOKICHI So, go ahead.
Shuichi sits with the thought for a second and when Kokichi's expression doesn't change, he approaches the phone. He sends a final glance to Kokichi and reaches for the handset.
At the first moment he makes contact, Kokichi grabs his wrist and pulls him around until he hits the wall, caging him in and causing the handset to clatter onto the table.
KOKICHI Oh, wait! Now that we're alone, I wanna tell you something.
Shuichi looks down at the shorter boy with a face between scared and confused, his arms pinned against the wall.
SHUICHI …What is it?
Kokichi takes a moment to examine his prey.
KOKICHI You're really useful.
Shuichi watches him move his gaze all around his body, only landing on his face at the end with an expression not entirely joking or serious.
KOKICHI So, how about you stop hanging out with dumb ol' Kaito, and be my friend instead?
Kokichi loosens his grip on one of Shuichi's hands, observing it.
KOKICHI I think I can be useful to you, too… y'know?
Then the other hand.
KOKICHI I can help you save everyone.
Just as Shuichi braves an inhale, Kokichi pushes both his wrists back against the wall with more force than before.
KOKICHI And you wanna save everyone, riiiiight?
Shuichi settles his eyebrows into a crease and his face into a frown. Before Kokichi can laugh, he throws a knee into Kokichi's stomach, stunning him on the ground.
Shuichi pays him a brief glare and snatches the handset from where it was dropped, saying his name and logging out.
Kokichi stays on the ground, not even attempting to get up. He lets the surprise and disappointment linger for a moment before attempting a half-hearted smile.
KOKICHI Nee-heehee…aw, I got rejected.
He drops the smile and changes his expression to one of resolve.
KOKICHI But I won't give up that easily.
He clambers off the ground and rustles his clothes back into place while looking out a window.
KOKICHI When I find someone I like, I'd do anything to get them to notice me…
He drops both arms to his sides.
KOKICHI …even strangle them.
