Ship
Carol Ann Duffy
In the end, it was nothing more than the toy boat of a boy on the local park’s lake, where I walked with you.
But I knelt down to watch it arrive, its white sail shy with amber light, the late sun bronzing the wave that lifted it up,
my ship coming in with its cargo of joy.

mark lee
photographer boyfriend obviously
doesn’t even complain about how many photos you want to take
is actually dying inside but hides it away with dad jokes to cope with the pain
“it’s not even noon yet and dis-knees are killing me bro”
will only complain about the heat
“It’s like we’re on the surface on the sun dude… like satan’s armpit. that’s crazzzzyy.”
you couldn’t help but laugh
but then he just KEPT GOING
“it’s like we’re in the inside of a mouth… there are things sticking to things that-”
and you cut him off right there.
can’t help the fact that bro is a D1 yapper.
will not wear mickey ears though no matter how much you beg him to :(
favorite ride: slinky dog dash
least favorite ride: dumbo
huang renjun
the boyfriend that actually disney bounds with you
so y’all are disney bounding as nick wilde and judy hopps from zootopia (renjun’s idea)
chenle took him to shanghai disney once, so he’s a big fan of duffy and friends
oh how disappointed he was when he realized that the mascots don’t exist in WDW
“preferred parking? i would prefer parking to be free, thank you very much.”
mood is very sour upon entering
“i know you’re cold but i did tell you to bring a jacket.” rude.
however once you two start collecting your first character signature he’s locked in
somehow more excited to meet the characters than the kids are? (ur 24. reality check!)
he gets more into it as the day goes on
YOU BET HE’S WEARING THE MICKEY EARS.
although he already had fox ears on to begin with anyways
favorite ride: mickey & minnie’s runaway railway
least favorite ride: seven dwarfs mine train (it was too short)
lee jeno
foodie boyfriend
wants a turkey leg like really badly
“that guy has a turkey leg… sir- um sir- where did you get that turkey leg”
you have to bribe this man with food.
which honestly is okay by you because you just wanna take photos of the food.
"yknow with this ride being 50 years old, you'd think they could've made the boats a little bigger. have to man spread now"
whatever you’re thinking of, that’s literally not what he meant.
he’s an innocent lil guy. (seriously, it just came out wrong.)

“cause if my mom died well… there goes my friend group.”
will randomly start singing disney songs in the middle of waiting for a ride.
in those show/ride/attractions he’s the only one clapping and screaming.
especially true for the beauty and the beast sing-a-long attraction, cause yknow he’s gonna scream his lungs out.
yeah he’ll wear mickey ears, but you bought him a goofy hat instead. It was more fitting.
“can’t believe disney made a character after me… should i sue?”

aggressively refills your waterbottles every second he gets.
“when it doubt, chug it out! (cue jaemin chugging his own bottle)
he unfortunately will not wear mickey ears. (jaemin i believed in you.)

“i just asked a couple of friends, and they recommended me this place.” boy.
you’re panicking because you’re severely underdressed. (you’re in a jessie costume.)
he reassures you, since you’re at disney, and being dressed like this is normal.
once u have one of the most expensive meals of ur life, chenle drags u to every single thrill ride.
he also buys you a balloon and a bubble wand <3

Kieran in guarma
if Kieran was in guarma
He would've immediately proved his usefulness by catching fish with a make-shift net, and the gang would've had a near-steady supply of food. The whole group would've switched from calling him O'Driscoll to Duffy before Arthur even found them.
He'd notice how terrible Arthur looked, shipwreck aside, and gently encourage him to rest at every opportunity. This would include trying to offer to help Dutch rescue Javier, which Dutch would've shut down with a 'oh, as long as Arthur's with me, I have everything I need' in one of the constant digs about loyalty.
He'd follow them anyway and somehow steal Levi's mule, galloping in just as the gang reach Javier and creating the perfect distraction as well as getting Javier away significantly faster than Dutch can carry him.
Kieran would've tried to turn the mule loose once they got back to 'camp' but it followed them anyway.
Later, Dutch 'jokingly' said the mule was a distraction and Kieran stammered a reply about how useful having a mount was before Dutch laughed and said he was teasing. Kieran would've bitterly mimicked Dutch under his breath when he was out of earshot.
He would've snuck Arthur extra fish by telling him it was 'all that was left' because Arthur would've never accepted charity and Arthur doesn't catch on until Micah complains about not having eaten since yesterday, when Arthur's already had two meals.
During the attack of the fort Kieran would've been shaking like a leaf the second cannon-fire started thanks to those army days flashbacks and hidden in the castle, only shooting those who made it to the door.
He would've redeemed himself however by proving an insanely talented sniper when they had to rescue the captain, taking out soldiers before they even got to the sugarcane fields and allowing the gang to focus on fighting their way through the town/barracks.
Arthur made a joke about not being able to bring the mule on the boat with them and Kieran scowled but still needed a minute to say goodbye to the mule he nicknamed Catsi.
He was also miserable the entire trip back to America because Catsi followed the boat on the shore braying.

Took me a little longer to ask again, a request maybe.
Something about Kieran Duffy x Reader (gender is up to you). Kieran is just so sweet, poor boy is bulled at camp everytime by almost everyone, he deserves some love (or friendship, platonic shipps exist too!). Maybe something about helping him with his chores or simply by talking with him without antagonizing the poor not an O'Driscoll boy.

Kieran left the cold hard comfort of his tent, the sky over Clemens Point tinged lavender with traces of dawn. Seldom were any other people up this early, the occasional good morning exchanged between he and Arthur, Pearson, or Charles, or whoever else was an early riser. Kieran did not skimp out on breakfast, yet he was prone to taking less than his allotted share of stew. He poured himself coffee, staring at his own reflection in the black liquid. The sunken embers of his green eyes stared back at him, and he looked unfavorably upon the scant unshaven stubble on his face. He looked shamefully at the forlorn expression he had adopted as a resting face. He looked away from his reflection in disappointed reprieve, feeling the stubble on his face and wondering if it was too late to tidy himself or just make himself look better for his plans today.
And indeed, it was too late.
“Morning Kieran.” You greeted in that soothingly sweet voice of yours. His shoulders jumped when he realized it was you standing next to him, and oh so closely he might add. You always looked so put together, even in the mornings when everyone else looked as though the night had not been kind to them.
“Good morning, (Name).” He smiled at you bashfully, beginning to feel his stubble again subconsciously. He cursed himself for not cleaning his appearance up the previous day at least.
“How are you?” You asked, kneeling next to him to serve yourself some stew. The way you bent down so closely to his leg, frankly, had him blushing and clearing his throat.
“Uhm, I-I’m good. How about you?” He said hurriedly. You stood back up straight, eating a spoonful of stew before looking at him.
“I’m good! Excited for our fishing trip!” You shifted your feet where you stood. “I brought my journal for the boat.”
“Your journal? I thought we was gonna fish?” He trailed off, becoming scared that he misinterpreted something when the two of you first planned your hangout.
“Well, yeah, but I thought it’d be nice if I read to you a little from it.” You looked at him, standing far too close to him for comfort with those puppy eyes that made him bend to your will. “And y’know, maybe we can get to teaching ya to read.” You giggled, nudging him on the side, making him jerk. He laughed awkwardly, squeaking out a “yeah” in the midst of his fluster.
Kieran swore he felt like more of a bumbling fool than usual when he was around you, becoming suddenly more self conscious of how much space he took up, how he moved, how he looked. His fear of looking like an idiot in front of you subsequently forced him into a constant stiffness, crossing his arms over his chest. As fond as he was of you, he couldn’t help the way he closed up and became rigid.
“Lemme finish up my soup, I wanna get on the lake while it’s still quiet and early!” You exclaimed. He could only nod, noticing just how much he was shaking when he lifted his coffee to his lips and saw how the liquid trembled in the cup.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both you and Kieran approached the end of the doc where the boat remained tied by a worn rope. In a simple gesture of help, Kieran held your hand as he helped you board the small boat; a gesture that would keep him up at night, giddy and excited. He untied the boat from the doc, pushing the boat off with his foot before hastily climbing on while it was still close.
The two of you looked across at each other, smiling silently to make up for the lack of conversation; you were both too shy and fiddly to start it off. Yet this moment of awkwardness allowed you two a moment to appreciate the serenity of the lake. The oars skated through tranquil water, the water rippling as it parted and made way for you both. Swarms of mosquitoes buzzed over the water, tall grass and reeds framed the shore, you even noticed waterbugs and dragonflies skidding over the surface of the water. The sky was painted orange as the sun began to rise, pushing away the darkness of night skies. Kieran kept rowing until you two reached far enough into the center of the lake.
The moment felt beautiful, on that fresh morning, and a part of you felt at once what it was like to be alive.
Kieran cleared his throat, picking his fishing rod up off of next to him.
“You, uh, ready?” He smiled, holding the rod up.
“Do you mind if I tell you a story while you fish for a bit? I thought it’d be nice. You fish and I read? Just for a bit. Promise.” Your suggestions sounded more like questions, unsure whether or not Kieran would like it. But Kieran was more than happy to have you read to him, he thought it was quite intimate. You had read to him before, and he loved watching the way you became so engrossed in whatever text you were reading. And he often found himself focusing more on you than what you were reading (yet he would always ask for a summary afterwards).
“Of course!” He felt embarrassed when he heard how enthusiastic he sounded. “Uh, yeah, that’d be great.”
He casted his rod out onto the lake as you pulled out a notebook. There was a moment of silence between you as you flipped through the pages.
“I went into Saint Denis the other day and I came across a nun, one thing led to another and I learned about who the city’s named after. It was real interesting and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to tell you about it.” You explained. Kieran had to turn his head to hide his blush, disguising it as a cough. He was touched you had thought of him, specifically saving a story for this little outing of yours.
“Please, go on.” He urged. You nodded and looked down at your notes.
“It was said that Saint Denis was the patron of France, aaand, he was revered as the first bishop of Paris.” You began. Kieran hummed in acknowledgement, feeling instantly lulled by your voice.
“It’s not the most riveting stuff…” You stopped suddenly, holding your journal to your chest. “Are you sure you’re okay listening to this?” You pouted. Kieran looked at you confused. Did he seem not interested? Was he not showing it enough?
“I’ll listen to anything you tell me, (Name). You make anything interesting, swear.” He reassured. Your cheeks dusted pink a little, celebrating in your head over the sweet sentiment.
“Okay.” You giggled, making Kieran’s heart jump.
You continued. “Anyways, apparently Saint Denis was martyred-”
“Martyred?!” He cut you off in surprise. “Like, killed?”
You laughed loudly, amused by his surprise. “Yeah, killed, killed for adhering to a certain set of beliefs, he was Christian.” You looked down your notes before continuing, tracing down the list of facts you wrote. “Saint Denis was heavily persecuted because he and his companions were so good at converting people to Christianity, that the Pagan priests were shocked by their loss of followers.”
“He was martyred on Montmartre, quite literally meaning martyr mountain. More specifically, he was beheaded. And it was said that his decapitated corpse picked his head up and walked several miles, all while preaching a sermon, to an area northeast of Paris, where the Benedictine abbey of Saint Denis was founded!” You explained.
Kieran shuddered. “Kinda morbid, especially for a peaceful morning on the lake.” He chuckled. “But real interesting. I would’ve never learned this if not for you.”
“Yeah, I agree.” You shrugged your shoulders and set the leatherback of your journal on your lap. “Saint Denis is bustling with people and industrialization, kinda scary. Makes me want to go back west, y’know.”
Kieran nodded as you spoke. “I ain’t really allowed to leave camp, but I just know it’s nothing but bad business out in Saint Denis.” You looked off in the general direction of the city. The air became awkward again as the both of you ran out of things to say. You sucked in a breath, feeling too stiff to grab your journal and flip through the pages to find a story. You fiddled with your thumbs, attempting to occupy yourself by looking at Kieran’s fishing.
“So, um, how have you felt since you’ve fallen in with us…?” You asked in an attempt to make conversation.
“I think it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.” He answered truthfully, and you found his sincerity touching. “Feels like a real family, like I’m not at the bottom of the ladder.”
“That’s really sweet Kieran, I’m glad you feel so at home here.” You smiled. “Even with everyone hounding you sometimes… I like how you see the positive side in things.”
“Some teasing definitely beats the way I was being treated by the O’Driscolls. I can put up with it. And, I’ve made some good friends here too.” He could not hide the blush that crept onto his face, nor could he look away, mortified that he had said something, indirect as it was, referencing your friendship.
“Hm, yeah.” You shifted in your seat a little, biting your lip to suppress your school girl giggles. Your foot tapped his as you moved, and you would not move it thereafter.
“I’ve got some real good friends here too. Some of ‘em are real special.”
There were moments that you and Kieran shared that demanded to be fulfilled. Perhaps by a confession of love, or giving yourself to him, completely and in every aspect.
But these tender moments that you shared spoke every word for you, all you two needed was to listen to each other more closely. To speak your feelings directly was not necessary. All you had to do was put your ears to each other's chests, and listen.
"Belfast to Byzantium" (2022 - Rita Duffy) / "Freedom" (2023 - Anastasia Trusova)
BELFAST TO BYZANTIUM: The photo is mine, because I couldn't find any online, but I really need everyone to appreciate the fact that this is 123x184 cm (48x72 in) and the red is much more intense in real life. The painting itself has this beautiful and horrific quality to it. The ship is packed full of people, emulating cruise ships, the titanic, slave ships, refugee boats. It is this awful mass of humanity, and a chaotic Bosch-esc vomitting of so many fears and tensions of our world.
It is a part of a tryptich, and I think this particular piece focuses much more on global warming, exploitation, and immigration. I feel like i can look at this piece for so long and i'm still seeing new things in it. It is something that makes you stand and stare for a solid few minutes. My personal favorite details are the people(souls?) in the smoke stacks, the way that the human form gets twisted and consumed to keep this terrible ship going. Similarly I think the hands in the water are fascinating, (again a titanic allusion), with a few swimmers, but most drowning. And that its the ship that these lightning esc veins are coming from, a ship that could save these drowning people, but instead seems to be hurting them more.
It just glows, and there is so much happening that I get pulled in whenever I look at it. (@travelingsmithy)
FREEDOM: i adore every piece of her work and honestly just wanted to nominate her on her own FJKGJFK but i think this one combines my obsession with her mastery over light and colour and depth and texture and AUGH idk as a very amateur acrylic painter myself i feel a bit crazy insane looking at this tbh.. to buy any original piece of her work is so expensive but i would lay down my life to own this. tbh. (@whimsicalpdf)
("Belfast to Byzantium" is a painting by Northern Irish artist Rita Duffy. It is held by the Crawford Gallery in Cork, Ireland. This photo was taken by the submitter!
"Freedom" is an acrylic on canvas painting by Anastasia Trusova. It measures 60 by 70 cm. (23.6 x 27.6 in))
She was born from an egg, a daughter of the gods, divinely fair, a pearl, drop-dead gorgeous, beautiful, a peach, a child of grace, a stunner, in her face the starlike sorrows of immortal eyes. Who looked there, loved.
She won the heart of every man she saw. They stood in line, sighed, knelt, beseeched Be Mine. She married one, but every other mother’s son swore to be true to her till death, enchanted by the perfume of her breath, her skin’s celebrity.
So when she took a lover, fled, was nowhere to be seen, her side of the bed unslept in, cold, the small coin of her wedding ring left on the bedside table like a tip, the wardrobe empty of the drama of her clothes, it was War.
A thousand ships — on every one a thousand men, each heaving at an oar, each with her face before his stinging eyes, her name tattooed upon the muscle of his arm, a handkerchief she’d dropped once for his lucky charm, each seeing her as a local girl made good, the girl next door, a princess with the common touch, queen of his heart, pin-up, superstar, the heads of every coin he’d tossed, the smile on every note he’d bet at cards — bragged and shoved across a thousand miles of sea.
Meanwhile, lovely she lay high up in a foreign castle’s walls, clasped in a hero’s brawn, loved and loved and loved again, her cries like the bird of calamity’s, drifting down to the boys at the gates who marched now to the syllables of her name.
Beauty is fame. Some said she turned into a cloud and floated home, falling there like rain, or tears, upon her husband’s face. Some said her lover woke to find her gone, his sword and clothes gone too, before they sliced a last grin in his throat.
Some swore they saw her smuggled on a boat dressed as a boy, rowed to a ship which slid away at dusk, beckoned by the finger of the moon. Some vowed that they were in the crowd that saw her hung, stared up at her body as it swung there on the creaking rope, and noticed how the black silk of her dress clung to her form, a stylish shroud.
Her maid, who loved her most, refused to say one word to anyone at any time or place, would not describe one aspect of her face or tell one anecdote about her life and loves.
But lived alone and kept a little bird inside a cage.
How to Find the Perfect Electric Duffy Boat Rental Experience in Newport Beach?
Tumblr media
Of late, people are looking for new ways to explore the world and that is why a lot of millennials are today interested in visiting destinations that provide them an opportunity to rent out a boat and explore the scenic areas. This is why Newport Beach, CA has become one of the most sought-after places for tourists from across the world.
There are many electric duffy boat rental companies in Newport Beach from where you can rent duffy boats. Here in this article, we will discuss some tips that will help you find the perfect electric duffy boat rental experience.
Boat’s Status & Maintenance
Inclusion of Safety Equipment
Rental Agreement
Laws & Regulations
Boat’s Status & Maintenance
One of the first things that you need to consider when renting out a boat in Newport Beach from a rental company is the status of the duffy boat. Most of the time people are disappointed to rent out defective duffy boats only to realize in the middle of their expedition and return immediately.
Besides that, there are instances where the malfunctioning boat in the middle of the sea has led to catastrophic situations and other boats had to be sent for rescuing the stranded tourists. That is why taking into account the condition of the boat before renting it is the most important thing.
Most boat rental companies have a dedicated maintenance schedule for their boats and you will find that the boat is in perfect condition and the boat rental company wouldn’t hesitate to let you inspect the boat before renting it out. In addition to inspecting the exterior & interior of the boat, you must also check the equipment including the engine of the boat before hiring it.
Inclusion of Safety Equipment
Most people renting out boats aren’t aware of an important fact related to boat rentals. All the companies involved in the boat rental business need to have all kinds of safety equipment onboard their boats. Whenever you are renting out boats during your vacation you need to ask the rental company regarding the kind of safety equipment they are providing on their boats.
Furthermore, the safety equipment onboard the boat must be in working condition so that they can used in any emergency situations. There are also several maritime rules and regulations that make it compulsory for boat rental companies to have all the safety equipment in their boats.
In addition to that, the life jackets in the boat must be of varied sizes depending on the people coming on board so that nobody has to wear an ill-fitting life jacket when the need arises. Besides the life jackets, the boat also needs to have a spare anchor, emergency medical kit, and fire extinguisher onboard the boat so that these things can be used if the need arises.
Rental Agreement
Most of the time it is seen in the excitement to rent out a boat people don’t go through the rental agreement completely and this is a major mistake they are committing that can be avoided. The rental agreement between you and the boating company is a very important piece of document.
Moreover, no two boat rental companies would have the same agreement and it differs from company to company. The rental agreement contains all the details like the distance up to which the boat can travel from the dock and the duration of the boat tour.
In addition to that, there are many rental agreements that would specifically mention that don’t allow any kind of towing services and also contain certain clauses that mandate it to return the boat the same day & if any major equipment like the engine or the propeller is damaged by your actions, then you have to bear the cost of their repair or replacement.
Laws & Regulations
There are many laws and regulations in place that govern the boat rental companies and their operation. First of all the boat rental companies need to have a valid license to operate boats. These licenses are very important because they clearly state how many persons are allowed on a boat.
A reliable duffy boat rental company would have a valid license to operate of the waters of Newport Beach and would gladly show you their permit when asked.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the most important things that you need to look into when renting an electrical duffy boat in Newport Beach. Moreover, you should get in touch with as many boat rental companies as possible because it will help you in comparing the best among them as per your needs and choose accordingly.
One thing I love, and maybe this is me staring too hard, but Jolyne is such a fascinating character and by far one of the best-written characters in Jojo, it's so much fun watching her learn and progress her skills throughout her part and no one gives her enough credit. Her visual design and the progression of it are just so perfect.
Tumblr media
Jolyne's outfit when she was 14 from the carjacking; her hair is worn long and she's wearing orange. This was also clearly the last time she had any faith in her father coming to help her. After this moment she grew to hate Jotaro, we all know this.
Tumblr media
But in the timeline reset? Irene is seen in a pretty similar outfit. Her hair is down and her sweater is orange. She's even on her way to visit her dad who she clearly is much closer to since she's planning on getting married and wants him to meet her boyfriend. Orange is also the color of the monarch butterflies at the end of the part.
Another thing I just love though is her name change, yeah it's sad she's "not a Jojo" anymore, but that's the whole point. There was no need for another Jojo because Jotaro killed Dio and that was that. A Jojo is born when there is an evil that needs to be stopped. There was no more Pucci, therefore there was no need for Jotaro to keep his distance from his family; he was there to raise Jolyne, now called Irene of course.
She broke the Joestar curse.
Speaking of those orange monarch butterflies...
Monarch butterflies represent the spiritual evolution and cosmic connection through one’s past lifetimes or the lifetimes of their ancestors.
This could be about her parallels to Jonathan, her great-great-great grandfather. Both are represented by the color blue, have insane resolve, are quick to adapt in a fight, and are more than willing to sacrifice themselves so that their loved ones may carry on and survive. Not to mention the visual parallels between Sono Chi No Sadame and Heaven's Falling Down... but I think enough people analyzed that already.
Jolyne's sacrifice for Emporio's survival is such a fantastic call back to the ending of Phantom Blood. She dies so the world has hope for Pucci's defeat in the future.
Tumblr media
Just like how Jonathan sacrifices himself so that Erina can get off the boat and away from danger and carry on the Joestar legacy that will go on to beat Dio for good... and it kind of worked, didn't it?
Tumblr media
The story has now come full circle, a roundabout if you will; the Joestars are no longer cursed by Dio. Jolyne was the one to end it for future generations to carry on and was reborn as Irene. The Joestars can be what they want, free of the need to constantly be fighting a greater evil.
Could I have read a little too far into this? Maybe, but these choices, the colors, the butterflies, the sacrifices, the visuals, it felt so purposeful and poignant. Even the lyrics to "Distant Dreamer" by Duffy; singing about hope and a future that's far from today.
Of course people are entitled to their favorite parts and Jojos, but Stone Ocean and Jolyne is where this series has peaked for me. It's the ultimate conclusion, all the loose ends have been tied up; there was no more story left to tell. I have huge respect that Araki was willing to "kill" all of the characters off like this, as sad as it might be to have watched.
Yet despite the sadness, I don't think I'll ever be as satisfied as I was watching the very end credits, hearing "Roundabout" play with the visuals in the credits retelling the story of the Joestar family, and it was such a wonderfully perfect, bizarre adventure.
Thoughts at 5pm...
Today we went to a new place to walk around and W fell in love with this place that had pink couches and pink canopies and pink Duffy boats. Everything was pink and pretty and sparkly and she was just giddy over it :)
We have seen and explored so much in the last year, but there's still so much to see and do that we haven't in just this basic 5 mile radius.
I just really love that we can walk along the water and see the fishes and crabs and life all around. It's not just concrete and tall buildings.
It's so amazing to have a great partner to love and explore with... wouldn't trade it for the world.
“With a yell Duffy ran toward the door, but his own legs weren't working correctly, and he made slow progress. Then he must have fallen, for he blacked out and dropped away through hundreds of disturbing dreams…he was a child crying with fear in a dark stone room; he was an old, dishonored king, bleeding to death in the rain, watched over by one loyal retainer; he stood with two women beside a fire on a midnight moor, staring into the black sky with a desperate hope; in a narrow boat he drifted on a vast, still lake; he sat across a table from a shockingly ancient man, who stared at him with pity and said, ‘Much has been lost, and there is much yet to lose.’”
