7 and 9 for dark urge asks!
7. Did your Dark Urge recall any childhood memories? If yes, how do they feel about the revelations? If no, was it by choice or lack of options?
Tumblr media
Memories for him tend to come and go; he doesn't dwell on them.
9. How does your Dark Urge feel about the city?
It's disgusting, smelly, full of crime and corruption and pissy homeless people; everyone's getting killed left and right by vampires or the murder cultists whos temple the city is built on, everyone is racist - long story short, he loves it.

As I am procrastinating and crafting backstories all in one go, I shall share a sheet of questions with you to share or answer yourself.
Past Life Dark Urge Asks - 1st Edition:
Do they miss their adoptive family? Why or why not?
Did they keep anything from their old family and home? A memento or a skill perhaps?
When Sceleritas fetched them from their comfortable home, what did they do on their journeys? Did they take on any jobs?
Do they speak casually or do they try to adorn their speech with frills? Do they maybe even dare to curse?
What was their relationship with Sceleritas like? Did they like their ever-adoring butler or did they try to run from the most wretched mother hen?
Bhaal loves money; did your Durge inherit that trait? Do they enjoy luxuries or try to live a frugal life, giving their all for their temple?
Did they have any connections or companions outside of the local underworld? If so, what were those connections like and if not, why?
What was their relationship with Orin like? Did it change at some point?
What would a typical meeting of the chosen have looked like when your Durge attended?
Gortash seemed to have admired Durge, what did they do to deserve this admiration? Did they have any notable personality traits or did they impress him in some other way?
The other cultists. How did your Durge view them? Did they enjoy their following or did they dread being idolised?
Durge gave a gold coin to a beggar once; why did they do it? Did this occur regularly?
Orin has her faithful group of changelings. Did your Durge have a similar 'personal guard' or task force at their back and call?
Durge famously acted as an assassin in the last decade or so. What was that like? Did they plan everything out meticulously, or did they act spontaneously and on whims?
Bhaal handcrafted Durge. Do they enjoy and worship their appearance, or did they have a rebellious phase, trying their best to change their Lord Father's grand design?

Get to know your Dark Urge!
It's time to get to know your Durge! Below are some "get to know you" questions about the current or favorite Dark Urge of anyone who would like to participate. As always, feel free to skip any questions that don’t strike your fancy or apply to your character by marking them with an “X”.
I cant wait to get to know your characters!
Tumblr media
General Questions:
What is their preferred combat style?
What is their favorite weapon?
What (or who) would they do anything to save?
What (or who) would they do anything to destroy?
What keeps them up at night?
What brings them peace?
What is their greatest asset?
What is their achilles heel?
What does their voice sound like?
What do they smell like?
What do they take pride in?
How would they spend the last night of their life?
How does someone get on their good side?
How does someone get on their bad side?
What is the best and worst memory they’ve formed since they escaped the Illithid ship?
If they could change their ancestry and choose to live another life, would they? What path would they take?
If they had the option to restore their lost memories, would they?
Which companion was the first to learn of their dark urges? How did this individual find out?
Are they secretive, or open about their dark urges? Why?
In the words of our resident bag o' bones (Withers), there are two paths the Dark Urge must choose from: "the heart of a savior," or "the mind of a murderer." Which path does your character take?
The Heart of a Savior:
What is the cost of resisting their dark urges? How does resistance impact them over time?
How do they find the strength to resist their dark urge?
What are their motivations for resistance?
To their memory, have they ever succumbed to their urges?
To their memory, have they always taken the path of resistance, or did something change their mind?
The Mind of a Murderer:
Do they succumb to the urge of free will?
What do they gain from taking a life?
To their memory, which kill did they most savor?
To their memory, have they ever resisted the urge?
To their memory, have they ever regretted taking a life?
Is there anything else you'd like to share? Feel free to include art or a screenshot of your Dark Urge if available!

my top ten list of things i headcanon durge and gortash did before having sex, kissing or admitting feelings like normal people includes: sleepovers where they voluntarily share a bed(as professionals do), platonic biting and commissioning nude portraits of one another

Would durge/orin have been the high primate of the Baldur’s gate temple of bhaal? The game doesn’t really get into the politics of the temple at all, understandably I guess, but I’m really interested in the clergy stuff. Bg3 also has “death’s heads” as an assassin title, is that just an invention of the game or no?
They're explicitly stated to have led the temple, which makes them High Primate, or High Primistress, yes (I assume Orin held the title during their "medical leave", as Durge may phrase it). Also the Forgotten Realms was intentionally built with intrigue and politics in mind - despite the fact that being made a D&D setting means that aspect got eternally side-lined in favour of overdeveloping the dungeon crawling/hack and slash - so it would've been fitting for the game to spend Act 3 getting into the many clergy politics going on. And the Patriar politics (and finding out how many have bent the knee to Bane - they know what they're signing up for, I swear.). And the police corruption. And whatever networking Cazador's up to, or networking for future Grand Duke Wyll Ravengard, and so forth so on.
Back on topic: Most - if not all - of the titles used by the Bhaalists in game (and I think the Banites and Myrkulites too) are not tabletop canon compliant. EDIT: Apparently they might've come from Descent into Avernus, in which case enjoy yet another pointless lore conflict that we could've avoided. There's not anything much about them, they're just names put at the top of enemy stat blocks.
Their uniforms certainly aren't, and I'm incredibly petty about it. Take the stupid bondage-esque outfits off the Myrkulites and Bhaalists and put them in their ominous skull masks/veils, corpse ash and black robes or so help me Larian. Also the Deathstalker's Mantle should be black, or black and violet: Red is a Banite colour you heretics. I have a superpower called "complaining melodramatically about literally everything".

5 and 10 for the Dark urge past life asks!
5. What was their class, and what was their favourite way to use its perks? Did they maybe even dabble in multiple ones?
He always was a sorcerer of a draconic bloodline, multiclassing into a fighter! (He's no longer a fighter post-tadpol though, due to his body being absolutely ruined)
Strike fucking loves magic! He used to hoard magical books and if some Bhaalists wanted to calm him down when he was in a bad mood, they'd leave magical trinkets or books or exotic scrolls in front of his door, because he'd then get so interested in those things that he wouldn't go flay random people. His favorite spells were obviously those of mass destruction, ice and lightning specifically are the ones he uses most of.
10. Their name; did they ever have one? Who chose it for them, or did it maybe change sometime down the line? Did they perhaps even have multiple Alias?
He used to have a name his adoptive mothers gave to him, but he keeps that private and never tells it to anyone except maybe Gortash when their alliance is the strongest. Bhaalists always just called him Chosen or Blood of Bhaal or something like that, Orin called him brother or bloodling, Sarevok called him homophobic slurs in private... He went by Durge for the longest time and even that used to feel like a blasphemy, as if too personal.
Gortash suggested the name Strike though! About three years before everything went to shit, when they thought they were invincible. Strike at first mocked the name but did let him continue calling him that, and when he woke up on the nautiloid, it was the name Strike that felt like his real one, not Durge

Gale: I’m scared about dying. Do you think you can sit with me tonight, and keep my company? It might be my last night alive
Tav/Durge: Of course
Gale: Um???? Ew??? I don’t even like you like that. Stop talking to me. We aren’t even close. Just be quiet so I can enjoy the silence of the night

Past Life Dark Urge Asks - 3rd Edition:
Name one specific song that fits the vibe for a vivisection partaken in by your Durge. What would it be?
Speaking of vivisections; Sceleritas famously messed one up once. How did you Durge react go that? Did it have lasting consequences for the little imp?
The Netherstone, how did they wear it? Did they even wear it?
Why the red Netherstone and not the purple one? After all, a proper bhaalist priest should wear purple robes, so they should have that colour and not Gortash, right? What was the reason behind the switch? Bestie Bracelets? Secret promises? Just plain defiance?
What was their class, and what was their favourite way to use its perks? Did they maybe even dabble in multiple ones?
How did they actually learn their craft/class? Were they born with it, or did they study under someone? Did they have a natural talent?
The Slayer, Bhaals gift, how did they earn it? Was it before or after becoming his chosen? Did they even recieve it?
Durge didn't grow up in the temple, but Orin did. Did this fact ever have any consequences for either of them? Did it affect their relationship?
Bhaalist's are surprisingly skilled with a wide range of weapons. Which one was your Durges favourite? Did they use it often or did they use something else for their 'regular' schedule?
Their name; did they ever have one? Who chose it for them, or did it maybe change sometime down the line? Did they perhaps even have multiple Alias?
After a successful sacrifice, all cult members are encouraged to take their victim's possessions. What's the one thing Durge claimed like that way that they're most proud of? What did they leave behind on purpose?
Speaking of claiming the possessions of sacrifices, did they ever snatch any real estate in the upper city? Why or why not, and if they did, what did they do with it?
Cazador's little dungeon is located in close proximity to the temple. We're they ever some sort of run ins or disputes between neighbours?
What did Durge think about living in the undercity ruins? Did they miss the surface sometimes, or did they enjoy the unique underdark-esque decor? Did the great chasms ever lead to some sort of 'accident'?
They had an adoptive family once. What did it look like, though? What were their parents like? Did they have siblings? Was it a big, close-knit family or maybe just the mom that stepped up?
Should I actually make this a series? I've still got plenty q's I've used, although some are very specific crafted to my durges so I'd probably need to change em a bit.

So I have some thoughts about gale with the dark urge. Spoilers for the dark urge in act 3 below so read at your own peril.
I think what's just hitting different about the dark urge x gale playthrough is that they are mirrors to the other. Each has a dangerous secret about themselves that endangers the people around them. Both are favored by gods, told they are exceptional. Then by their own arrogance, they lose everything. As the game progresses, they find solace in the other. Normalcy, away from the alluring call of the divine. Both have to turn away immeasurable power in the game to learn how to live again and be their own people.
I really wish that when Bhaal offers the dark urge to be his chosen, Gale would say something. Because he would get it. Refusing a god’s will when that god has practically controlled a large portion (if not all) of their life. The MC was the one who talked Gale out of following through with setting off the orb for Mystra’s forgiveness & later turning away from seeking to become a god himself for power. It would just make sense that he acts as that same moral beacon of “this isn’t the right path for you” when the dark urge is facing the choice of being Bhaal’s chosen.

Monster for the not-so-nice asks (both gals pretty please)
So this is a fun one because, yes, both girls have monstrous aspects of themselves, and both girls react to it VERY differently.
Dede's patron gives her the ability to summon the feywild's frightening and beguiling magic and appearance whenever she pleases. So she takes great joy in scaring the shit out of people on the battlefield turning herself into crazy looking fey monsters.
Winter Rose, on the other hand, has the Slayer to contend with. I've always really liked the headcanon that you don't 'earn' the Slayer back, but that it bursts out of durge in a werewolf like fashion when the Urge gets to be too much. Thinking of writing a fic about that actually. But headcanons aside, she has random recall of things she's done as the Slayer and has a very, very bad relationship with her past self because of it. She absolutely considers herself a monster. And it's only Astarion who ever convinces her otherwise.
And then she helps him turn into a monster, and never forgives herself for it.
