Awareness comes to Gaedian in waves. The crackle and spit of a nearby fire; the warmth the flames cast on his face, and the feel of something soft against his cheek, like a cushion under his head. The smell of smoke and iron overlayed with the richness of the jungle, and the taste of ash and sickeningly sweet sap in his mouth. The pain and hurt that had forced him to lie down in the first place, radiating from his back through his bones and everywhere else in his body.
The memory of burning and screaming and falling.

Scholar Adelwyn of the Durmand Priory
This is one of my many GW2 OC's, Adelwyn! She's your casual bipanic disaster (who doesn't know she's bi). She works as a botanist and is interested specifically in how the environment affects plants.
She is also the former Mentor to another OC, Rukka! They're botanist besties and to this day still work together on various plant-based projects.
Despite being a fumbling disaster, Adelwyn can be a bit of a badass in her own right. While she doesn't see herself as particularly strong in martial ability, she can still certainly hold her own in fights, preferring to use clever methods of magic and swordplay. She employs a unique, fluid, shifting blend of different swordplay techniques she learned from a master swordsman Charr that fits perfectly with her ability to shapeshift her weapon in mid battle, giving her a surprising edge to those who cannot adjust to her shifting nature.
And yet... she still trips over herself whenever she sees a pretty Sylvari.

Here are Days 1-5:
Commander, Fire, Magic, Knowledge, Death
The GWTwober Challenge is hosted by SetiusArt (@simply-jacqueline) and Hardstuck Guild.

I’m posting this really late, BUT
THANK YOU POKSMOX FOR DRAWING MY BOI!
Tumblr media
They did an amazing job of drawing my main GW2 RP character; Olan Stone.
lol, I originally had no plans for making him buff when I 1st made him (wanted to keep him a scrawny Priory nerd), but he got adopted into a norn family and then started to train in an earth-magic-based martial arts in Cantha. Whoops.  Now he’s my buff wizard that RP friends like to tease with the name of “Swolan”.   XD

Does your Commander have any unexpected skills?
For example, a lot of researchers historically had to draw their observed specimens. Birds, plant, cool rocks etc. So I headcanon that any Durmand Priory characters take art classes, making them all (Amadaria included) stealth artists.
What skills do your Commanders or other OCs have that people wouldn't expect?

I really liked the whole “Roisin fell in love with a Priory gal who massively distrusts the Whispers” but then I retconned the Priory girl into not being there. Whoops. Thankfully, Alexis was just sort of sitting there doing nothing.
Ruby’s always been an ally to the Order of Whispers, going back to when Jurah was the Master, and it’s just sort of been passed down “Hey if this woman turns up on our doorstep, it’s probably a good idea to listen to her and help her out” and all subsequent Masters went “Oh okay!” Riel is a lot more suspicious about it, so has tasked Roisin with finding a Fae within the Priory and finding out anything about the family history or anything that would tie in to Ruby. On top of that Roisin’s just there to pass on Priory intel back to the Whispers. On top of that she wants to know why Ruby was so adamant of putting Serenity into the Whispers. Since she's one of the few who knows Serenity's origins she wants to task someone into looking into the Fae family even more.
But yeah. She kind of falls for Alexis while in the Priory. She’s a sweet bean. Alexis does not trust the Whispers. They tried to recruit her sister after the destruction of Lion’s Arch but she joined up with the Church of Balthazar instead. They found the Whispers base in Ebonhawke once and that was a whole other mess as well. So yeah, she doesn’t like the sneaky spy people.
(lol the height difference)

Lol I was replaying an old Priory story instance and Gixx’s voice actor at one point says “Priory anarchists” when the text says “Priory arcanists” - and obviously this is just a mistake that didn’t get caught before launch, but after spending a few instances with Sieran again... I can imagine it being a Freudian slip on Gixx’s part, because anarchist is not an inappropriate descriptor for a lot of the Priory’s members.

Being an Archon, how do you picture El's relationship with his colleagues of the Priory? How does he get along with Gixx (technically his superior) and Ogden, namely? 😁
Jackpot question <3333
El's a pretty difficult person to like. He doesn't get along easily with people, doesn't care to spare feelings, doesn't particularly care about anyone other than himself (from the POV of his colleagues) and his temper is short and volatile and explosive. Any sane person would be, as a general vibe, be scared of him. But he's terrifyingly smart and innovative and sharp and being in an organisation of scholars, they're bound to see it. So they view him with a sort of frightened, begrudging and ultimately a little reluctant, but no less grand, respect.
A funny image I have is him interrupting someone, maybe a giant beefy norn or something, because he has something to say and everyone just shuts up because they're afraid he's gonna go off on them lmao I think very few people want to go head to head with El (save for Nyra, sometimes, but she's a special case obviously)
They consider him pretty out there with some of his thoughts, but they listen regardless because he's made them work. Somehow. Gixx, naturally, doesn't like him but knows there's very, very little he can do to keep El, irreverent as he is, in check. Only time he's pulled out his Steward of the Priory card was when he took away El's notes on Trahearne's resurrection and threatened to let him go if he so much as peeped about the details of it to anyone who wasn't directly involved, and true enough, El hasn't said a word on the matter since. El's also too valuable as a scientist and a brilliant mind to let go.
(And fun fact, El was one of the first sylvari ever to join the Priory.)
Now Ogden... Ogden El begrudgingly respects. They've worked closely in the past and El references Ogden's work pretty often. He's a little less acidic towards Ogden and the dwarf knows that means he's warming up to him <3

Theidelisa-Vallewellyn, "Val"
1325AE - Durmand Priory
“With respect, Magister, this extends well beyond recklessness. You can’t expect us to just watch while you condemn yourself to certain death for the chance it’ll produce a useful result.”
Scholar Myrra was a patient one, Val mused. She had to have been, to have deigned to join the Priory’s ranks at the bottom, despite her ability. The basis for the Asura’s attachment to her she didn’t quite understand, but it was certainly being brought to the fore now. Not quite the right time or place, in her readied ritual circle.
“I’m not expecting you to watch, Myrra. In fact I’d prefer it if you didn't.” Val’s voice came calm, with the warm comfort of a mentor. Serene, despite everything. “It’s not likely to be pleasant viewing.”
“Lockwood’s already looking into a talisman to hold the spell. Deldrimor craft. That’s bound to work.” Then she added, with emphasis: “Without killing you?”
“Magic of this maleficence cannot be tamed by any object, no matter how well-wrought. Without attended control, it would pose catastrophic risk to any around it, its bearer especially. And if it fell into the wrong hands…” She trailed off. “In any case, the decision has been made. This is my Hunt.”
The Asura opened her mouth to argue - though weeks of this back-and-forth had already led to this point. The ritual was already on the cusp of completion, with no small commitment of resources and irreplaceable relics already drawn and depleted in preparation.
“We shall call this spell Theidelisa-Vallewellyn’s Agony.” Val said simply. “Let this now be the first and final time it is ever cast.”
-
As it ripped into her bark and seared itself into her soul, the malicious magic took root, carving and fanning out in furious lines of rot. The scars drew themselves in perfect symmetry across her features; the mark of Death’s very design.
And even with her every safeguard to arrest it into stasis, the pain persisted. It bled through, in never-ending, sanity-testing waves. But it would become familiar in time. An acceptable cost, for this edge against the endless armies of the Elder Dragons: through necromantic contagion, Val would be able to infinitely bestow this horror in its original potency.
At least, until such time as it claimed her.
