I just realized that it's been a year since I created my patreon! It's time to unveil the exclusive illustrations chosen by the patreons!
April 2021 : The theme was "crossover" and my pawtreons chose Lord of the Rings!
This illustration was a little challenge, I read books a long time ago and vaguely remembered the universe. Crowley is an elf and Aziraphale a dwarf :)
I tried a different brush for this illustration, hope you like it!

Good Omens fandom
Anyone up for a Good Omens au set in a Red Dwarf universe/setting? Maybe the flu meds have gone to my brain, but there's this:
This is an SOS distress call from the Mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak. The only survivors are Anthony Crowley, who was in suspended animation during the disaster, and his pregnant cat who was safely sealed in the hold. Revived three million years later, Crowley’s only companions are a life form evolved from his cat, and Aziraphale Fell, a hologram simulation of one of the dead crew. I am Holly, the ship’s Computer with an IQ of 6000.

OK SO OBVI, ALPHA CENTAURI, A, C, AZIRAPHALE+CROWLEY, THE'RE TWO STARS THAT WERE THOUGHT TO BE 1 BY SCIENTISTS FOR A LONG TIME BECAUSE OF HOW CLOSE TOGETHER THEY ARE AND AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY USED TO BE ONE CHARACTER BUT WERE THEN SPLIT IN TWO AND ARE LITERAL SOULMATES, BUT WAIT! THERES MORE!!!!
Alpha Centauri A is a class G star, which means that they shine YELLOW to WHITE YELLOW
Tumblr media
and Alpha Centauri B is a class K star which means that it is one of the second dimmest classes of stars (the dimmest being brown dwarfs) and they shine YELLOW ORANGE to ORANGE
Tumblr media
you can't tell me this was unintentional. you just can't, it's so PERFECT.

okay I watched good omens s2 yesterday with my partner, and I was genuinely very surprised -- I think if you've grown up through superwholock/merlin/the 100/teen wolf type shows where (with the exception periodically of doctor who) you kind of had to make up the good show that something could have been in your head, that colours a lot of your viewing, and to be honest I thought season 1 of good omens was a fine little piece, honoured the book while modernising it somewhat, it was a nice, fun, low stakes time, with a couple of things I might have wanted a tad different but nothing overall awful.
so I was seeing all this meta and gifsets and discussion, while I was waiting to give s2 a watch with my partner and thought "ah, people have made up the good show in their heads again" not that I assumed s2 was going to be a bad show, but that people were taking extra deep plunges into possibilities, the way fandom does, and that was fine. I knew there was a big ol kiss, I had a sense of some kind of argument at the end, and that it was setting up a s3
I also knew that mainstream reviews were calling it (politely) self-indulgent and dependent on whether or not you enjoy david tennant and michael sheen having a good time for just under 6 hours
all in all, expectations of a somewhat mainstream show without too much to think about, a nice, fun low stakes time, moving on...
(EDIT: AND THEN I WROTE A LOT OF WORDS SO YOU CAN IMAGINE THAT MY REACTION WAS QUITE DIFFERENT)
as it turns out it seems these things that were being written on tumblr were discussing the actual text of the show and not things you could extrapolate if you squinted and tilted your head a little to the left as I'm so used to doing, so in fact there is much to think about!
and my first thought was "this is like when you read early discworld books that ask a question like a joke, only to find that over time the answer to that question becomes very serious (and also can be funny at times of course)." how terry pratchett would pick and pick at tropes and notions and social ideas and go "oh now hold on, this seems strange..." starting way back when he thought it was odd that women warriors always seemed to be dressed in metal bikinis and then realising he hadn't done a good enough job of subverting the trope, simply by depicting it and calling it a bit silly
why do goblins always get treated as the villains? what's with this divine succession of kings business? where are the female dwarfs? who do we treat as disposable?
good omens season one went: "haha what if heaven and hell were intensely incapable, bureaucratic, corrupt, and uncaring of the work they did, and we took an angel and a demon and had them actually care? wouldn't that be... a bit silly?" (and it was)
good omens season two went: "what are the consequences for caring when the people who have power over you are incapable, bureaucratic, corrupt, and uncaring? what are the forces that supersede systems built on fear, ignorance, and violent conformity? can people change and break out of/challenge/break down these structures by caring?"
and this was set up with a neat little sleight of hand (to reference aziraphale's switch-and-bait in the episode with the nazi zombies), because the majority of season 2 does feel a bit indulgent: hey, remember those two wacky angel-and-demon characters? watch some more wacky things they did through the ages, watch them take a sojourn through 1827 Edinburgh and do a magic show during the Blitz, and... stop the death of Job's and Sitis' children (actually maybe that whole segment ought to have been what they call "A Clue")
see them try to figure out a kooky mystery, all the while setting up a cute little same-gender romance on their street. watch as everything points towards a happy ending that's all about the two of them realising what they've been to one another all these thousands and thousands (and thousands and thousands) of years- but hold on. lest we forget - and the show has made this point over and over - there are powerful people who control them, who hurt them, and who plan on hurting others, throughout the whole season, and as it turns out they know what they've been to one another for far far longer, and know how to pull their strings...
season 2 then, has to show us these things, not because they're indulgent (well, maybe occasionally, but the apology dance is still important), but because in order to make the ending a tragedy, we first need to understand, properly, the impact that they have had on each other. we need to understand that Aziraphale relied heavily on Crowley to be his moral compass and leaned on black-and-white thinking in order to deal with things, because if it's all grey then where does he fit and what has it all meant and heaven has to be the good guys, even as Job's and Sitis' children are ordered to be killed, it's all he ever had...
and Crowley was always an anchor, needed to trust that Aziraphale was different, needed to bend to every whim that Aziraphale has, because otherwise what's his worth in all this? After having been already deemed worthless by the heaven that Aziraphale needs to believe in?
and that, simplistically described, is the narrative that we're seeing in s2, and alongside that the ways that the changes they have upon each other are noticed, and monitored, and placed under suspicion, and finally... broken up, not by the clumsy, brute force that's been attempted over and over again, but by a promise to return into a violent, controlling system and to "make it better from within"
and all of this is wrapped up in two queer relationships + a third queered-within-the-text relationship that creates the inverse of how it ends for Aziraphale and Crowley (so far). queer love -- whatever shape that has -- is explicitly the shape of non-conformity within this narrative, including within the symbolism of angel-and-demon love of Gabriel and Beelzebub, which in the context of the systems created is considered queer (and one can argue till the cats come home about casting cis actors, about angel-and-demon notions of gender/romance/sexuality, but the "queerness" comes from building something non-conforming to the systems they exist in), and enforced by the explicitly our-world-definition-of queer romance that Nina and Maggie have going on (which, while less high stakes, still contains the background controlling relationship that Nina initially is in)
all of this to say, that I disagree that s2 meanders, or that plotlines happen for the sake of showcasing Aziraphale and Crowley without purpose, or that characters get sidelined (I'd say it sets up a whole host of interesting characters to further get into actually), or that it's strictly mainstream easy-access narrative that's just an excuse for the main creators and actors to get back together.
the love is the point, and this show takes its time to show the love (and the unequal boundary-setting, and the fact that one of them has an undiscussed tragic backstory, and the desperation to belong again, and the fear instilled by oppressive systems, and and and), so that we understand why those last 15 minutes happen the way that they do
it's sleight of hand, and like all good magic, you don't notice until it's happened

end of the year reclist
well!! the year is winding down and I read some good stuff on ao3. here are the highlights.
Good Omens:
Ut It Tempus (Or: Muriel's Wet, Wild, and Very Hot Summer Weekend) by Oatmeal Addiction
just recently read this one so it goes on the top of the list!! incredibly funny, great muriel character study, some of the funniest prose out there. it genuinely feels like you're reading a continuation of the book, which is just such a cherry on top of everything this fic has to offer.
a rarer height by @hyruling
this was the first fic I read post series 2 that scratched that itch i get for good go fic. the atmosphere it creates is lovely, like a little blanket to wrap yourself up in. the way it jumps back and forth through time is amazing. the characterization is so good--I'd been waiting for a fic where the way they fight felt natural and HOOOOO boy did this deliver like a swift kick in the nuts. absolutely a post series 2 classic.
puttin' on the ritz by @moonyinpisces
what can I say that hasn't been said already. it's funny it's hot it's glamorous they are so unbelievably stupid for each other it's amazing. I think about it every time I order a drink with a maraschino cherry.
Just Once More by NaroMoreau
TIME LOOP FIC!!!! that's all I can say. what a great character study and what a great means of utilizing time loops for character development. absolutely lovely.
Drinking Buddies and Diaries by dove_dove
on my life this is probably one of my favorites of all time. perfectly imagined series 3. perfectly imagined muriel and crowley shenanigans, perfectly bitchy aziraphale, with a wonderful small study on food symbolism to add to the cherry on top. lovely.
I'm the treasure baby, I'm the prize by stereobone
crowley works at a brothel and hypnotizes men into thinking they're having sex with him so he can therapize about aziraphale to them. that's it. that's the story. it's perfect
come as you are by fruitygoblin
this one made me cry buckets for very personal reasons but also I think it's a very good character study of aziraphale and it also does something lovey stuff with food symbolism.
Sherlock:
(Never) Turn Your Back to the Sea by DiscordantWords
I finally read this one after meaning to get to it for years (I love the author's other works) and uh yeah. yeah. great exploration of grief and somehow successfully makes things make sense after whatever all that was.
House:
Old machines by applecrumblecore
I love fucked up middle aged men and I love how this seems like a totally plausible way for them to get together.
Howler Tone by baffledbear
I love fucked up middle aged men and I LOOOOVE fucked up codependent self destructive tendencies displayed through impromptu phone sex. Or whatever.
Red Dwarf:
Learning to Lose by komodobits
listen. technically I read this last year and technically I made myself promise not to put any WIPs on this list. but it started updating again and also this fic was made for me. Its a blades of glory au and it's so deliciously funny and sucks you in so fast. it's crazy. I've pulled all nighters over it. it's literally the two stupidest things I love with all my heart smashed into one. it doesn't get better than this.

An excerpt I just read from pg. 283 of Snuff by Terry Pratchett that shows why I think the end of Good Omens won’t end with Crowley and Aziraphale become literally human — they’re already a human angel and a human demon, just like Angua is a human werewolf.
Angua waited with Billy Slick while Carrot went on the errand, and for something to say, she said, “Billy Slick doesn’t sound much like a goblin name?”
Billy made a face. “Too right! Granny calls me Of the Wind Regretfully Blown. What kind of name is that, I ask you? Who’s going to take you seriously with a name like that? This is modern times, right?”
He looked at her defiantly and she thought: and so one at a time we all become human—human werewolves, human dwarfs, human trolls . . . the melting pot melts in one direction only, and so we make progress.

Some thoughts on Alpha Centauri
Tumblr media
Alpha Centauri is a binary star system ~4.3 light years away from Earth. Appearing as a single bright point of light, it was first recorded by Ptolemy in his astronomical treatise The Almagest(1) in 150AD, but it wasn't discovered to be a pair of two stars orbiting each other until the late 1600's.(2)
(1) I'd bet dollars to donuts Aziraphale has a copy.
(2) Alpha Centauri was only like the second binary star system to be discovered. Given Crowley and Aziraphale made the Arrangement only a few scant decades earlier, I can't help but imagine Crowley would romanticize the idea of two bright glowing beacons bound by gravitational force to perpetually circle each other.
Between Earth and the Alpha Centauri system is the Oort Cloud, a band of millions of comets and other icy planetary debris loosely orbiting the sun.
Tumblr media
For the sake of creative license (and ~~romance~~), I imagine the Oort Cloud would be like being surrounded on all sides by a perpetual meteor shower. Wouldn't that be a sight to see, with the ethereal being you care for most in the universe at your side?
Past the Oort Cloud, the next stop on the way to Alpha Centauri is Proxima Centauri, the closest star to Earth. It's a cool, small red dwarf that orbits its bigger binary neighbors Alpha Centauri A and B. It's also a flare star, so every so often it gives off bright flashes of solar wind. It has an exoplanet closer to its surface than Mercury is to our sun, offering an angel and demon on a romantic holiday a front-row seat to its spectacular lights show.
Tumblr media
Stargazing from another solar system would take on completely new meaning. In the night sky from Alpha Centauri, the constellation Cassiopeia would be visible, as would the Earth's sun.
Tumblr media
But seeing the galaxy from such a new and drastically different vantage point would provide the opportunity to come up with new myths and constellations. What could be a more perfect activity for two ethereal-slash-occult-beings to wile away a decade or a few chatting over a picnic basket chock full of favorite treats from Earth?(3)
(3) Said favorite treats from Earth would mostly comprise of fine red wine, biscuits, and petit fours, of course.
But back on earth, if Aziraphale never agrees to go with Crowley to Alpha Centauri, well...Crowley rather doesn't see the point of taking the trip alone. Feeling rejected and heartbroken, if he wanted to go for a sulk, he could miracle himself to the opposite side of the planet from England to the South Pacific, where Alpha Centauri is visible in the night sky year-round. He could spend as long as he wanted staring up at those faraway stars bound together in eternal orbit in the constellation Centaurus and think about what could have been.

I had one of those dreams last night that just feels so real and when you wake up and realise it isn't, you're extremely disappointed. It goes like this:
Amazon Prime released a clip on YouTube that clearly wasn't part of season 2, but was filmed at the same time as season 2.
In the clip, Aziraphale is on Earth and is talking to Maggie, who's sotting at a table alone outside Nina's coffee shop. Maggie is sitting on a chair, while Aziraphale is standing up with both his hamds leaning on the table.
Aziraphale: "Have you seen my friend recently? I really need to ask him about something he said about New York."
Maggie: "No, I didn't, but I can help you look for him."
At the same time, a dwarf man is walking by, and turns his head towards Aziraphale when he says the word "friend". It's obvious this is Crowley in disguise, but he continues to walk with his head turned around and not saying anything.
Some time later, Aziraphale has a heart to heart with Muriel inside the bookshop, with both of them sitting down at a table and drinking tea. Aziraphale thanks Muriel for taking such great care of the bookshop. (Unfortunately for this parr I don't remember any dialogue). At the end of the conversation, Aziraphale kisses Muriel's cheecks, like a father would kiss his daughter.
Dream ends.

Extract from Aziraphale's Journals: Travels in Medieval Philippines
時 永樂 辛未 九月 十二日 也
[Archivist’s note: In this period, Aziraphale used the Chinese dating system. In the Western Calendar: 12th September 1420.]
Tarung Village, Bagobo, Sulu Empire
[Archivist’s note: the Sulu Empire was located in Mindanao, the third largest Island in the Philippine Archipelago. The Bagobo tribe still exist today, however, their language and culture are listed as ‘critically endangered’.]
//
The local people have a story about a terrible demon. A buso. They call him Mamili. He is the Great Serpent.
Right now, coconut ink fresh on my quill, the light from the apitong oil candle casting flickering shadows over my hands, that very demon is asleep in my bed.
//
Today, I was humbled.
I stood before a tree that was almost a thousand years old. Wider than the mighty three-tiered pagoda of 杭州市 [Hangzhou] and taller than the dark spires of the Notre Dame, her presence dwarfed me into insignificance. It is rare for me to feel the ghost of mortality.
This great, cathedralic plant soared on hundreds of pillars, the thick stems braided together into celtic knots like broken spiderwebs, threads of time twining together over the centuries. High above, handfuls of delicate oval leaves fanned outwards, pitifully meagre compared to the great mass of bark below.
One was reminded of a liquid. Rivulets of tree had fallen from the sky, dripping downwards and solidifying as stalactites do.
Dozens of beings made their home within. Creepers, young and old alike, raced each other in their clamber upwards along twisting stems that provided perfect purchase. Here and there, peppery flowers flourished in a startling fuchsia. With eyes more focused than any mortal, I could see the lines of biting ants that had made their home close to the ground, and in another quarter, ink-black antlered beetles chirruped from within their nests.
“The Grandmother balete tree,” said the spiritual elder who stood beside me. They are known as Buhawi after the God of the Four Winds.
Whilst I was preoccupied with awe, they put down their burden. The wooden stopper did little to mask the vinegar tang of coconut liquor seeping out from the baked clay amphora. I mimicked them. In my wicker basket, I had carried the offerings.
We stood, side by side, and let the natural world cradle us. I closed my eyes. There were a million tiny sounds, but it could never be overwhelming for it all formed part of the same song. Every murmur, cry, or rustle belonged there within the shadow of that majestic, old being.
In that beautiful moment, so did I.
“Thank you,” I said. “I see why the Datu was so insistent that I accompany you here.”
They responded with a knowing smile which cracked the worn lines of their weathered face. They never smiled with their teeth, perhaps to hide the red betel-nut stains.
“Come,” they said, “help me with the offerings, and I will tell you about Grandmother balete. I will tell you her story.”
And so, as we prepared the areca nuts, the lime, and the betel leaf, Buhawi told me the tale of the Great buso who is called Mamilli.

Thoughts on the new poster and opening but done fast because my dad is mad at me
In the trailer you can see this symbol multiple times, and you can see it on the poster too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think they probably mean something related to heaven. Maybe the Armageddon happens and they (most likely temporarily) win? It can also be an invasion, since they pass through hell earlier in the opening, and Beelzebub could be undercover or something, that would explain the grave
Tumblr media
There are also multiple undirect mentions to Heaven, more than hell, such as:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The last one is because of the sky and the multiple planes, that could also be from nuclear attacks, starting the Armageddon.)
And yeah i saw the multiple mentions to hell, but besides the "underground" sign they are really more direct.
Also, is it possible that Aziraphale might fall or just turn against Heaven? Most people are saying that the upside down feather is Muriel's, but we can't be sure.
Tumblr media
And there's also the fact that HIS clock has all it's hands on the number six (666 wowzie) and his Bow tie is on the floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this poster you can also see 1 mug, 1 teacup and one glass with wine. As you can see in this other poster, the wine is Crowley's, the teacup is Aziraphale's so i'm sure the mug is Muriel's (Actually it's Aziraphale's but you know what i mean)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also see Crowley's glasses (At least it looks like his) on this statue.
Tumblr media
I also found these little lizards in both posters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can only assume they have something to do with demons.
This probably doesn't mean anything, but the hat isn't present in the poster where Crowley and Aziraphale are in the scenario, but it is on the one where they're gone and there are only feathers...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, this scene really caught my attention. This seem to be a circus, you can see a hat and bunnies and... Dwarfs?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice how all the bunnies are white and falling... This is probably a "freak circus" (idk the correct term, but i'm talking about those really old circus with disabled people)?????
Also, i really think that these drawers (of documents?) in hell mean something.
Tumblr media
(you can also see a computer and an office chair on the scene.
Honorable mention to the heart rain (and a possible head twitch, just like on the rain poster)

The following ficlet was written by @lazysaturdayonthebeach based on this photoset.
Fili/Kili, Rating TBC.
You might also be able to read this story on AO3.
If you’ve enjoyed this story, please leave a comment either in replies or on AO3. :)
Christmas Pageant Omens
In a little cabin next to a little river outside a little village, two dwarves sat with their little white cat.
The dark-haired dwarf, Kili, watched Good Omens for the fifth time.  The light-haired dwarf, Fili, read the script for the annual village nativity pageant.  He was cast to play the Angel this particular year and anxiously awaited the end of the episode so Kili could help him try on his recently finished wings.
They were spectacular wings.  Created from an old chest holster, heavy wire, plastic wrap, liquid latex, and half a mattress worth of downy white feathers, the wings extended above his head and reached almost to his feet.  Even if he completely forgot his lines, no one would remember anything but the wings.
Unbeknownst to the blond angel, his spouse had secretly constructed another pair of wings.  Much smaller and black, these wings were designed like a pair of demon wings.  Ever since Fili was cast as the angel, Kili had been mildly obsessed with kissing his own ineffable husband in Good Omens style.
There was no lack of kissing in their relationship.  It was just a fantasy that Kili wanted to indulge.
On the night of the big show, once Fili was winged and safely harnessed to his wire rig, there was nothing to do but wait.  Kili excused himself to use the restroom because he was nervous.  He stopped on his way to say hello to Bilbo and Thorin.  He fully expected to don his wings and get his kiss while Fili sat on his stool behind the stable.
Unfortunately, Bilbo wanted to talk about Christmas dinner the next day.  He even managed to keep Kili entangled in the conversation while helping Thorin find his glasses.  Only when the lights dimmed twice did Bilbo realize how late it was and shooed Kili back to help Fili.
Kili ran, and almost abandoned his fantasy. But he had practiced during the dress rehearsal and really thought he had time to get the wings from the trunk of their car, put them on, and get backstage for his kiss.
Kili snuck into the periphery of the scene and stopped.  Someone had rearranged the scenery.  The shepherds, Ori and Bifur, were struggling to reach the stable.  Bifur pretended to step in manure to cover their difficulties.  That caused some murmuring and quiet laughter, but Kili was still sure no one noticed him, all in black, quietly sneaking amongst the sheep, pigs, and camels.  Several animals were actually touching the rear curtain, cutting off his path.  He dropped to his hands and knees and crawled under the cow to get through.
At length he made it to his spot amongst the stable supports where he could guide Fili safely down when the time came.  He was unable to profess his love, call him Aziraphale, and plant a big kiss on his lips before the big ascension, however.  Fili was already rising.  He decided that as long as his angel was safe, he really didn’t care.  He hoped the stable would hide a kiss from the audience when Fili came back down.
Whoever had shifted the animals on the right had also shifted the star and hay on the left.  Kili could hear Balin, the director, and Dwalin, the stage manager, hissing at each other behind him. Both blamed the other for the complications and confusion.  There had been no problem with Fili going up, but they were worried about him coming down without his wings catching on the rear curtain.
It was too much.  Kili’s one job was to keep Fili safe while he dangled helplessly above the stage.  He climbed up on the stool and grabbed the white robe to guide his angel safely away from the curtain and scenery.  As he did so, his head and wings were visible above the roof of the stable.
He wasn’t the only fan of Good Omens in the village.
Bilbo gasped.  Thorin took off his glasses so he couldn’t see his nephew and thus have plausible mayoral deniability.  Bofur fell out of his chair laughing.
Eventually, Fili was safely on the ground and Kili did kiss him, fulfilling his fantasy.
At Christmas dinner, most talk was about the pageant.  Fili had not forgotten his lines, but still, no one remembered anything but the manure maneuver and Crowley’s mysterious appearance.

ya’ll Crowley and Aziraphale are not going to become stars in the night sky (Alpha Centauri AB). it’s a doctor who reference and symbolism for how they orbit one another, separate entities meant to be together. we know how the show ends (south downs cottage). I can pretty confidently say that pratchett would NEVER take away the autonomy of two beloved characters like that, I promise. I’ve never read a book of his that didn’t have a satisfying ending or where he didn’t treat the characters to lovely character development and endings that felt earned. It will be okay!!
vimes was a drunk that started out literally in a gutter and then became the richest man in the city
magrat went from a naive young girl to a queen
cheery was able to break out of the confines of dwarf perceptions of gender and be her true self
I could go on and probably will later
But pratchett wasn’t a poet. He looked for the most interesting, funny, and meaningful outcomes for his characters and their development.
