If Echo is reading on a datapad, minding his own business and relaxing after a taxing mission, and someone lays down next to him there a 40% chance he pets their hair or rubs their back. He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, it’s just an unconscious habit he picked up somewhere down the line. Somehow his hand just gravitates towards them and now he’s got his fingers carding through Hunter’s hair, scratching Crosshair’s scalp, rubbing a knot out of Tech’s shoulder, or petting circles over Wrecker’s back.

They make a game out of how long they can get it to happen until he notices. Tech managed half an hour once. Wrecker always immediately gets clocked but Echo pretends not to just to boost Wrecker’s score (he gets called out for cheating but always denies it.) Hunter has a pretty good handle on not tipping Echo off when he lays down but he often gets a bit too snuggly and gives himself away anyway. Echo tugs on a strand of his hair then keeps going. Crosshair is so quiet and sneaky that he’s a runner up to Tech but the second he’s found out Echo can’t resist tickling him instead of giving out more pets. He pretends he doesn’t know what he’s doing but grins the whole time while Crosshair complains and slaps him.

Echo knows about their little competition. He pretends to be oblivious and lets them “trick” him into giving them affection. He claims that ‘at least it keeps you all occupied so I have some damn peace’ but in reality he is kind of pleased they want attention from him to begin with so he’s going to soak it up for all it’s worth.

I strongly prefer it when the Scions *don't* have Ancient counterparts.

I think it means more if they're part of the new souls born to the star either after Zodiark's first summoning or after the Sundering. Which is a whole thing!

Importantly, those were the souls that the Convocation were going to sacrifice to Zodiark to bring back the Ancients they lost.

To me, I think it's vastly important that G'raha, Y'shtola, Urianger, Thancred, the twins, that all of them are people Emet-Selch would throw away without a second thought. That to him, you're the only one worth half a damn... And broken as you are, only half a damn. And before he lets himself accept that you really are what's left of Azem, you're just someone else he's convinced isn't a person.

But I think these are the very souls Azem left the Convocation to save, even if Azem still didn't want to break the world. And these are the souls that Venat and the Twelve did break the world to save.

To me that's so much more important than any reincarnation romance (much as I adore that kind of story too). That to Azem and to you, these people matter anyway.
