While my WiFi was out, I finished START AGAIN: A PROLOGUE, cried my eyes out, and then made this last night.

Lazarus felt Lucas nestle closer, chin coming to rest naturally atop the other man's head. The adjustment sent a quiet satisfaction through him, this was right, this easy intimacy they'd somehow fallen into.

"Not complainin'. Probably need sleep for yer old bones anyway."

One hand continued its slow patterns against Lucas's back while the other settled more securely around him. Lazarus felt his own body relax, having always found it easier to sleep with weight pressed against him.

“Makes sense t’me. Can’t bake f’r th’life ‘f me.”

Lucas went through the hassle of removing his hat. Placing the old thing down onto the arm of the couch. Humming at the other shifting around to get comfortable.

“Any interestin’ projects y’got goin’?”

He looked to Lazarus, checking over the others features. Eyes tired, but soft. Clearly relaxed in the space they’ve created.

its kinda scary how the show keeps nailing in the fact how bddie might not ever be a thing, getting increasingly toxic just to drive the point home and Still the fans are like “oh wow. romance!” like how

Personally, I don’t think the show is deliberately making their dynamic toxic to put off shippers. I think the writers don’t know what they’re doing with Eddie as a character.

Because they’re not letting Eddie have any character development. The consequences don’t matter and that’s a failure of storytelling on the writer’s part. It’s not just Eddie — having consequences has been a problem for the show for a long time. I mean, that’s the reason they decided to kill off Bobby. They needed the characters to finally be faced with a long-lasting consequence. Yet, they still haven’t learned, apparently, because Eddie is still not developing as a character.

And to touch on the romanticization, I think what makes it so difficult for me to personally understand is that the show is presenting it as Buck and Eddie being on equal footing when it’s not. And people who are romanticizing it are imagining a relationship dynamic that is not on screen. Like there’s fanon and there’s what’s on screen.

Because as it stands now, Buck is the narrative punching bag and Eddie is always forgiven even when he doesn’t apologize. So I just don’t understand how people can think that is basis for an equal romantic relationship. It’s not even interesting, lol.

And I’m not saying that complex power dynamics can’t be explored in media. I have mentioned Interview with the Vampire — I also love that show and it is full of toxic relationships and grey characters. The writers of Interview with the Vampire know their show is about toxic relationships — the writers are not going to have Lestat be cruel to Louis but at the end of the episode have it all be forgotten and everything is fine and not have an eventual confrontation about Lestat’s words and actions. 911 is not Interview with the Vampire — these are not morally grey characters. Eddie and Buck are supposed to be best friends. But the writers of 911 seemingly are unaware, again, of not giving the characters something to be confronted with. And are unaware that their relationship is so unequal.

Sorry this kinda went off on a tangent but I had so many thoughts that needed to get out!

Clocking Niobe is Agamemnon's grandmother adds a whoooole new layer of wtf to the preexisting MOUNTAIN of wtf that was Artemis being like "murder ur daughter or no sailing for u" @ Agamemnon in Aulis.

Per Homer's Iliad Niobe, for those unaware, was a queen who had 6 sons and 6 daughters. This led her to boast that her pussy game was way better than Leto, the mother of Apollo and Artemis, as she only had 2 kids to Niobe's 12.

As you may expect Apollo and Artemis were really normal about this and responded appropriately. Apollo killed all of Niobe's sons while Artemis killed all of her daughters in punishment. Niobe herself became a rock, forever weeping.

SO YEH. THAT'S FUN.

Now just imagining Agamemnon trying to pray to Artemis to maybe, uhhhhh, NOT make me murder my own child for ur special deer???

And she just goes: be grateful I take only one.

Honestly I feel like during and since season 5 Eddie has just become a worse and worse character. I ship fanon buddie but would never want them to be together because I feel it would be an incredibly abusive relationship, that people romanticize.

Agreed! imo, starting around season 6, Eddie’s character has felt disconnected from the rest of the 118. Like, why was this episode one of the only times he has spoken alone with Hen and Karen? Eddie’s character arc has been stagnate in the last few seasons and I really think him leaving for El Paso for good to focus on being a father to Christopher would be an okay end to his character arc, which has always revolved around Christopher.

But yeah. The on-screen Bddie of it all. I could hardly watch that scene in the kitchen. And I can’t help but wonder why the writers keep writing scenes like this btwn them. Is it to make canon Bddie unpalatable? Or do they really think this is how “best friends” argue? Because it seems they resolved it by bringing in Chris and tia (which is not actually resolving it). Compels me. Much to think about.
