Note
Do you have any recs for Drarry struggling with trauma or ptsd during 8th year? Please and thank you!
Hello! Your holds have arrived!
I took the liberty of giving you MORE RECS and splitting this rec list into two parts! Be sure to check out last week's list for the first part of these recs!
Eighth Year + Trauma 2
A Sliver of Hope by @goldentruth813 (539 words, rated G)
Draco doesn't have much to offer, but he'll gladly share what he does have.
say something by @gallifrey1sburning (1,190 words, rated M)
“The world I was raised for is dead,” he stated, his voice flat. “And good riddance, I suppose, but there’s no place for me here. I was molded to ascend in a society that burned. It might have been better if I had burned with it.”
Destination: Healing by @stargazing-enby (2,027 words, rated T)
As much as he refused to think about it, the truth was something in Harry’s chest unravelled in those dawn-hued moments of quiet when his body was heavy against the bathroom door frame, the Cloak heavy on his shoulders, and his gaze heavier than any of the two on the rise and fall of Malfoy’s breathing.
The Swallows Will Return by @thisbloodycat (4,621 words, rated E)
Harry wasn’t sure what he’d expected from life after the war—peace, obviously, maybe a sense of accomplishment—but it certainly hadn’t been this.
to be a bit of warmth (for you) by @softlystarstruck (9,304 words, rated M)
As some of the only eighth years to return to Hogwarts, Harry doesn't know how he and Draco will manage to be roommates for a whole year without resorting to violence. But Draco is too quiet, and too thin, and wears layers of sweaters that he tucks over his fingers. So they fall into an unspoken routine, one that soothes Harry as much as it helps Draco, one that's so much easier than Harry thought it would be.
Until it all falls apart, and Harry realizes he holds the world in his hands.
Dragons Don’t Talk by @rama-thorn (15,805 words, rated T)
In which Harry can't talk, Hermione soon will have a nervous breakdown, Ron's just confused and Draco has some illwishers (and talks a lot).
Cascade by @avonneslovelies (18,738 words, rated M)
Harry wants to touch, and Draco wants to be touched. If only they could figure it out.
Heartache by @bixgirl1 (25,577 words, rated E)
What if the one person you least expect is the only one who really understands what you've gone through?
Inside Your Mind by lazywonderland (36,376 words, rated E)
Goyle's taken it upon himself to act as Malfoy's personal, one-man guard and Harry can't help but feel like it's only making the bullying worse.
The July Tree by @oknowkiss (51,637 words, rated E)
Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail… nor well-meaning friends, nor questionable communication skills, nor seven years of hating each other’s guts can keep Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy from falling in love.
Diffraction Patterns (I Don't Know How to Forget You) by @yourdifferentoctober (93,636 words, rated E)
When Harry Potter, of all people, offers to help Draco erase his Dark Mark, he has no choice but to accept. He wants it gone. He wants to forget. He wants to reconstitute the past. Never mind that erasures leave real marks on bodies, real traces on the world in its becoming. This is not how he expected his eighth year to go.

A Wizard’s Guide to Co-Parenting with Your Ex-Arch Nemesis
read it here on ao3
Harry had expected a few things when returning for his Eighth Year. Rooming with Ron, a cheeky Firewhisky down at the pub, leaving his assignments to the last minute – those were all but certain to occur.
His list of certainties definitely hadn’t included McGonagall’s shake-up of the curriculum, which tasked the Eighth Years with the responsibility of parenthood for three weeks. Caring for a baby Transfigured from a sack of flour would have been alright if: 1) Malfoy wasn’t Harry’s assigned partner, 2) Their baby’s one goal in life wasn’t to spite Harry, and 3) Malfoy wasn’t infuriatingly good at fake parenthood.

I love you, don't you?
"Draco! Draco! Will you- you just-" Harry panted, putting his hands on his knees to take a gulp of breath after running after him, "stop."
Draco turned and shoved Harry's shoulder as if to say 'fuck you' which he already had before he had left Harry sitting dumbly at the table. Harry winced but grabbed his arm, "come on, I- please, can we talk?"
Draco tugged out of his reach and stepped away, "we can talk with a little distance between us."
Harry frowned, "I don't want to hurt you, Draco. I really don't. I love the friendship we have but... but Ginny... she doesn't trust you and..." he rubbed his forehead with two of his fingers, "she's completely in the wrong and I disagree with her. I do. I really do. I just don't know how to convince her that you won't hurt me."
Draco pressed his lips into a thin line, a pain beginning to form in his chest. Did he really call what they have a friendship? Draco was sure they were more than that with the way Harry slept with his head in his lap sometimes or carded his finger through his blond hair or... kissed his cheek in greeting, teasing him relentlessly whenever his face turned red. It wasn't just friendship, he knew it. He could feel it, with the lingering touches and the stolen glances and the shy smiles they shared. He hadn't seen that between Harry and Ginny. Not since the war.
Harry looked at him with worry in his green eyes, silently pleading him to say something. He probably didn't even see the blatant hurt and jealousy on Draco's face or even realised that there was something so special between them. Oblivious git, Draco rolled his eyes.
It was only a minute before Draco's resolve crumbled, a man could withstand those bedroom eyes for so long. He sighed, "the solution is simple, Harry. We just simply don't talk anymore. Will that please your girlfriend?"
"No!" Harry said, suddenly, straightening his posture a bit, "can't we compromise? I can't not talk to you..." His face was bent in pain and confusion, "you're my friend, Draco. My best friend. I can't lose you."
Draco swallowed, "tell me, Potter. Does Weasley truly love you?"
Harry nodded, "yes. She tells me that all the time." He was lying, Draco knew.
"Then why would she make you choose between her and me? I wouldn't. She's your girlfriend, you love her and would probably marry her and have ginger babies but that won't stop me from being your friend."
Harry looked away, he pressed a hand to his chest in thought as if mulling over what Draco just said. Without another word, Draco left.
Maybe Harry didn't have feelings for Draco, just maybe. But that wasn't possible because he knew him better than anyone, he had spent years looking at him, his face was already an open book and Draco basked in the adoration that Harry kept in his eyes, only for Draco.
He just hoped Harry would sort his mind and decide if Draco was a friend or something even more.
The pain in his chest didn't ebb away like he thought it would. It only grew.

Chapters: 6/6 Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter Characters: Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Dean Thomas, Ginny Weasley, Pansy Parkinson, Astoria Greengrass, Andromeda Black Tonks, Teddy Lupin Additional Tags: Getting Together, Hogwarts Eighth Year, Elements Inspired by Heartstopper, Boys Kissing, Secret Relationship, Party Games, Fluff, Smut, Light Angst, Epistolary, POV Alternating, Hand Jobs, Blow Jobs, teenagers being stupid, Weed, Recreational Drug Use, Alcohol, Intoxication, Minor Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley, Past Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley, Brief Instance of Misogynistic Language, H/D Erised 2022
Summary:
Draco’s back at Hogwarts by court order. Harry’s back for no particular reason at all. Some things change, some stay the same. Neither expects to spend eighth-year living in close quarters, playing rugby (poorly), staying up late, sneaking around, and finally figuring it all out.
Excerpt:
“I’ve ruined the fun,” Draco says.
“Yeah, sorry about that,” Harry says.
“Why are you apologising?”
“I invited you.”
“True. It’s definitely your fault that I was a teen fascist and my peers hate me,” Draco says dryly.
Harry nods, distracted. Draco surveys the room. Romilda is attempting to redirect people into a game of Spin the Bottle. Draco scoots back further.
Harry follows him back towards the wall and asks, “D’you want to get out of here?”
Draco’s mouth drops open. He snaps it shut. “Sure.”
“Right,” Harry says. He pushes himself to his feet and holds out a hand to haul Draco up too. His palm is dry against Draco’s clammy skin.
They walk swiftly towards the Chapel door. Harry turns the dial to black and they step out into the castle.
“Where does the black door lead?” Draco asks, trying to get his bearings in the dim corridor. He always exits the Chapel to the outdoors and walks across the lawns to the main doors that lead to the Great Hall.
“Not sure,” Harry says. “Hermione says it’s different every time.”
“How is that useful?”
“It doesn’t have to be useful. It’s magic.” Harry goes and sits in an alcove near a tapestry depicting a knight and a princess. Draco follows him.
Harry produces the bottle of tequila from Romilda’s game. He uncaps it and takes a sip then passes it to Draco. The mouth of the bottle is warm against Draco’s lips. He drinks dizzily, the first time he’s ever had tequila.
“I can’t believe she was trying to get people to play Spin the Bottle,” Harry says.
“I can’t believe everyone just gamely sat down for Truth or Dare.” Draco passes the bottle to Harry, who sets it on the weathered flagstones. Draco’s sleeve is still rolled up.
“That’s quite nasty, isn’t it?” Harry says, pointing to the Dark Mark.
“It makes for an okay reminder,” Draco says.
“Of what you were?” Harry asks, absurdly generous.
Draco has to take a breath. “Of who I want to be.”
Harry takes a swig of tequila, his lips shiny and wet around the glass.
“So you don’t fancy anyone at Hogwarts?” Draco asks, changing the subject, possessed briefly by some bravery he doesn’t know he had. He regrets the question the instant he asks it, the words hanging in the draughty air.
Harry ducks his head. “I… didn’t say that.”
“Ah, who’s the lucky girl then?”
“I didn’t say it was a girl, did I?” Harry asks, cheeky, then horrified.
“Oh. Are you– Do you fancy someone who’s not a girl?” Draco’s heart beats a tattoo against his rib cage.
“I–“ Harry starts and stops. “Maybe.”
The bubble of hope returns to Draco’s chest, larger now. “Have you ever kissed someone who’s not a girl?”
“No,” Harry says quickly. Then slower, quieter, “But, I think I would. Given the chance.” His eyes are massive and bright behind his glasses. Draco doesn’t know when he starts leaning forward, but once he does, he can’t stop. He tilts his head and lets Harry close the distance.
They kiss, close-mouthed and soft, the aching sweetness permeating through Draco when Harry pulls away looking dazed. They part for only a second and then Harry leans back in, his hand cupping the side of Draco’s face, fingers splaying over his neck.
Harry’s mouth is warm and wet and he tastes like liquor. Draco can’t get enough.
When they part again, Draco’s face is hot and his heart hasn’t stopped pounding and he can’t help but laugh at how strange his life has become. That he’s snogging Harry Potter in a deserted Hogwarts corridor, that he never wants to stop.
“Why are you laughing? It’s like you’ve never been kissed,” Harry says.
Draco touches his bottom lip, unable to keep himself from smiling. “I haven’t.”
Harry scrunches his nose and laughs too. They’re still sitting very close, Draco’s knees brushing against Harry’s.
“Are you– D’you want to–” Harry starts to say, but he’s already swaying into Draco’s space, crowding him, and there’s no need to say anything else.
They kiss and kiss until Draco’s lips go numb. Harry’s fingers find their way under Draco’s shirt, cold against his stomach. Draco wraps his arms around Harry’s neck and just holds on.
Eventually a strange noise breaks them apart. An hour could have passed or maybe five minutes. Draco can’t be sure.
“Mrs Norris,” Harry says, hoarsely.

My kid wants to read some of my fanfic - and if you've read any of it, you'll know that it is not appropriate for a pre-teen.
She loves Heartstopper though (who doesnt?), so for my third WIP (ha!), I'm writing a very sweet and fluffy Draco POV, one-shot, diary type Drarry.
If she hates it, I'll let you know.

Fic Claim: First Frost
Tumblr media
I had the pleasure of writing this piece as a gift for digthewriter for this year's @hdowlpost! First Frost (drarry, 4.7k, T, 8th year)
By the time Draco saw the outline of the castle appear between the trees, he breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn’t wait to return into the safety of its walls, where people behaved as they ought to. But he had made his calculations without Potter. Or at least without this new and entirely unpredictable version of Potter, who, as they reached the edge of the forest, suddenly turned to Draco with a disarmingly genuine expression and said: “This was nice. We should do it again.” And with that, he turned and walked leisurely down the hill, which was fortunate because Draco's expression of utter incredulity was best left unwitnessed.

“I’m...” her voice was low, tiny, and rasping. “I’m not bored tonight.”
She risked a glance up at him and found a wolfish grin on his lips.
“Well then I consider tonight a great success,” he purred. He scooted his chair closer. Under the table, his thigh pressed into hers. Her eyes widened and he chuckled.
His hand found her thigh and rested on top of it. It felt heavy and hot on her skin even through the fabric of her gown.
“I can think of many ways to keep you entertained, little lion,” he whispered.
She turned to face him; her eyebrows raised, a question on the tip of her tongue.
“Go on Granger, ask me.” He looked ready to devour her.
She swallowed. “How? How can you keep me entertained?

Text Message by @drarrily-we-row-along (1,204 words, rated T)
The 8th Years get cellphones as part of their muggle studies class. Draco didn't really listen to the instructions, but was pretty sure he'd figured everything out.
What He Needed by @phoebe-delia (2,205 words, rated M)

In which Hogwarts brings in a Mind Healer they all desperately need, inter-house unity inspires socials, the eighth years turn socials into games of truth or dare (Thank you, Pansy), and dares turn Draco into Harry’s.
Golden Daffodils' Sea by @laudh8 (11,840 words, rated T)
The months after the Battle of Hogwarts are sunny and beautiful, even though it feels like the sky should be falling around Harry. However, he’ll have to realize grief is not the only thing he has to fight now that he came back from death.

Nice Things by aideomai (22,052 words, rated M)

A Dented Old Street Sign by @orphanghost (27,425 words, rated M)
Draco knows they aren't the only students who will be completing their NEWTs this year, but they are the only ones whose home fireplaces were disconnected from the floo network by the ministry.
At least, Draco assumes as much until he sees the light falling out from the front door of one of the other rickety old houses in front of them and the three figures cast in its warm glow. For a moment they look like some sort of strange, many legged creature. An acromantula, or a particularly massive Blast-Ended Skrewt. Then Draco hears Pansy make a disgusted sound beside him and the light falls in a less blinding way, and Draco can see that it is actually Potter and the Weasel carrying a large couch between them, and Granger fluttering around them with her wand out, seeming concerned.
Two to Lie and One to Listen by @fluxweeed (84,562 words, rated E)
It’s weird when Hermione announces that she and Ron have broken up. It’s weirder when this is followed by the revelation that she’s already moved on—and the new object of her affections is Draco Malfoy.
Things only get worse from there.
where all veins meet by @saxamophone (146,114 words, rated E)
It's the summer of 1998. The battle is over, and Voldemort is dead, but Harry still has more questions than answers. Who is he without a piece of Voldemort's soul in his head? What is he supposed to do now? His friends try to help, but the only thing that can hold his attention—one of the only things that ever has—is Draco Malfoy, out on parole and weirdly hanging around the British Museum. As they keep running into each other, Harry sees that Malfoy is different, and he wonders if he can be someone else, too.
Featuring rumpled band shirts, poker games everyone hates, fumbling sex, and a Harry going a little mental over how wands even work.
❤️ As always, if you find a fic you enjoy, please remember to leave the author a kudos or a comment! ❤️
Lots of Love and Happy Reading!

Black Ink
for @nelweensfic 's birthday! I hope you've had a great day! Here's some eighth year quidditch! I hope you like it! CW: Implied Canon-Typical Death/Grief, Eighth Year, Implied Bullying (not between Harry/Draco), Happy Ending He had thought he'd never get on a broomstick again. Not after the battle, not after he'd walked into that forest and came out a changed man. Everything was a reminder of the people they had lost. The flowers that grew in the courtyard, the Black Lake, the expansive castle that was still being put back together, brick by brick. Even when Headmistress Mcgonagall had started the new Quidditch league, he hadn't signed up. How could he? How could he just go back to how things were before, as if nothing had changed at all? It wasn't until he saw Draco Malfoy's name on the roster, which had been crossed out with black ink and changed to Death Eater, that he signed up as well.

only bad thing about being in a fandom where one of the characters canonically has wings is the painful lack of classic wingfic. where is my everything's the same but people have bird wings watford au where one day baz notices simon hasn't been grooming his wings bc of an injury to his ribs so he sits on his bed and makes a whole fuss about how "i'm not doing this to be nice, snow, your wings are just a travesty to look at" and then proceeds to carefully and lovingly tidy his feathers in drawn out silence while they both pretend grooming someone else's wings isn't one of the most intimate things you can do for another person. will this heartbreak never end
#i have an old wingfic that never left the zero draft stage and it was suuuper fucking plotty#simon was still the chosen one in it but not in a weird sex magic kinda way like he was just home grown like that so no humdrum#so lucy is alive and he grew up with her and the mage (and they have a dog!) (simon named her ''little simon'' lmfao)#meanwhile baz isn't a vampire but natasha still died when he was five bc ok i don't know how to explain the lore behind this#bc it has to do with a skeevy blackmarket trade involving human wings like it was kinda dark ngl#but the long and short of it is that baz and tasha are kidnapped and tasha is killed keeping baz safe but baz's wings are damaged#pretty severely and so one of them never grows to full size and it leaves him flightless#n e way simon and baz don't get on bc the mage is still the mage and the old families are still the old families#but they are roommates as usual#and half-term their eighth year pitch manor is raided by blackmarket poachers and mordelia is kidnapped and the whole grimm family is#in shambles so baz goes right to simon about it and there's this reverse of the simon-showing-up-at-baz's-door scene#where baz shows up at simon's door a complete WRECK to ask for help getting his sister back#and simon is like. why are you asking ME for help?#and baz is like. bc you're the only one i know who can#and then they fucking steal one of the mage's cars and hit the road [so good right now by fall out boy starts playing]#and then it's just kind of a normal mission fic about them finding mordelia and saving her life and baz falls out a very high window#and simon catches him etc.#i love wingfics so much#sighs wistfully#i think i need to be alone w my gdocu for while#valen and the void

Summary:
Pale face in paler hands, he is devoid of color. He is only the moonlight. And he wonders if he'll find the sun.
A story about Draco entering a period of change that will either shatter him or enfold him into Harry Potter's world.
(੭ˊ͈ ꒵ˋ͈)੭*⁺˚. * ・ 。゚☆
Excerpt:
Draco stirs, egged on by the vision of the hand still holding his, as if Harry had forgotten all about that. “Harry?”
“Hm?”
“I think Severus respected you, at least in the end. Do you...do you think...your Sirius Black would me?”
Harry leans closer, knocks their shoulders together and draws Draco's attention to him. “Yes, Draco.”
Draco wipes at his brow, slicking the fringe from his eyes. “How so?”
“Draco, if anyone knew the life of someone who made a mistake, got caught up in the wrong thing at the wrong time, and spent years of courage surviving with little of his truth known and appreciated, it was Sirius. He'd know exactly how you feel, and he'd be proud of you for moving forward.”
The wetness in his eyes stings a little as he nods, glancing away and diverting the topic slightly to avoid Harry noticing it. “We're related, you know. Mum's a Black by birth.”
“Oh, yeah! I saw her on the wall. Bellatrix, too.”
“The fabled Grimmauld Place, I take it.”
Harry snickers. “I gave it to the Dumbledore's Army people during the war. Maybe I'll go back to it after Hogwarts. At least...at least I have a home, if I want it, right?”
“Sounds like,” Draco agrees, thinking of the Manor and his mother so isolated.
He moves to stretch and realizes that he's still holding Harry's hand. A deep, lovely flush spreads down the back of his neck and over his ears as he stares down at their hands. Harry follows his gaze and pauses as well, both now focused on the pale and lightly tanned hands twined together, fingers interlaced, thumbs rubbing the backs of respective palms.
Draco isn't going to speak first. Not on his fucking life. But he is smiling to himself.
Harry coughs a little, but doesn't move his hand away at all.
They sit like that for quite a while, held hands seeing both sun and shade from passing white clouds above. Draco and Harry look everywhere but each other at first and then only at each other, and when it begins to sprinkle from a random little grey cloud that has decided to play between the white fluffy ones, they rise, grabbing robes, and run for the castle, hands tight together.
Draco's mind is screaming as he strides down the halls toward the bathroom, knowing he'll need to wash up and cool off before going to dinner. Harry follows at his side, hand still woven with his all the way to the silly door. Draco pauses and gestures with his eyes, his stomach growling not a moment after to signal his intent.
Harry laughs, rubs his thumb clear across Draco's knuckles and squeezes.
Feeling like an absolute idiot, Draco just stands there, blushing and smiling, unsure of what the hell to do when Harry leans forward, licking his lip nervously.
Draco closes his eyes, the little gasp escaping as he feels the soft, wet imprint to his cheek.
And then Harry is gone, no doubt as red faced as Draco is left alone there in the hall.
  •
The little kiss seems to have been magical.
The feeling of it doesn't wipe away when he washes his face, and it's there all through a rather subdued dinner where he says little and Potter talks loads with Longbottom, and Luna Lovegood glances between Draco, who is both bowed close and away from Potter on the bench, and Potter, who is doing the exact same so that their ankles brush awkwardly.
It's there when Draco announces his leave and bumps Potter's shoulder with a smirk, getting a very nice bit of red across the Chosen One's cheeks just for him.
It's there when he lies in the cot wanting to shout with all this excitement in him; he's not sure where it's coming from entirely, but it's in the heat of his chest, the tingle still of his cheek, and the small surge through his body and groin.

Light side
For @drarrymicrofic song prompt "Dark side" by Kelly Clarkson. Thank you @cluelesspigeons for beta reading ❤️
"Draco! Wait!" Harry called in the hallway.
The Slythetin was running away, students moving to let him through as Harry desperately tried to reach him.
This wasn't the outcome he had wanted. He thought telling Draco he loved him would be pretty and all sappy, but instead the Slytherin left him. The panic in his eyes was enough for Harry to know.
"Draco!" Harry called out once again. All the running he had done this last year helped him to keep up and and to grab Draco's hand to stop him.
"Draco," he whispered out of breath.
"Let me go. I'm not good enough. There will always be darkness in me." Draco was crying. Harry could see he was trying hard to keep his composure, but the poor Slytherin was vulnerable in front of everybody.
"Everyone has a dark side, " Harry said softly, putting his hand on Draco's cheek. "I won't leave you. I love you too much for that."
"Don't be ridiculous." Draco sighed. "You can't love me as much as I love you. You're the Good One, the Saviour, the Golden Gryffindor."
"And you were always by my side. I know it took me a while. I was too focused on your dark side that hid your light side."
Harry smiled as Draco's eyes widened in surprise. "You have light in you, Draco,” he continued. “You saved me. You saved the Slytherins. You have light in you. Let's focus on that, okay?"
"Harry."
"I love you, Draco," Harry said loudly to the students surrounding them. "Do you want to be my boyfriend?"
Draco looked around, tears still rolling from his red eyes. He looked unsure and Harry let go of his arm, defeated.
"Yes!" Draco exclaimed, grabbing Harry’s hand into his own.
