I love it when ffs portray him accurately (and I tried to achieve that in my own too). The thing about his death is actually funny because according to Mxtx, even Mxtx didn't know why it happening until it happened! Says so in the notes at the end of the book. Like, SWD took the wheel there, and honestly I love him for it.

Hx was already irked with the whole brotherly show of love while he was trying to get his revenge. Like SWD was choosing SQX again and again, right in front of his salad. HX, being the person who was originally sacrificed to SQX, have SWD two options 1- sacrifice SQX for once in your life, or 2- die by the hands of the person who choose over everything else, and swd was like "nope, you don't get your revenge. Im going to die and I'm taking my didi with me" and hx lost it there. Hx is also Xuan, and he was jello that SWD kept picking the other Xuan over him. He just couldn't have SWD choose SQX not only in life but also in death. So he separated the two siblings. Rip swd. He died because the blood was thicker than dead water.

His name is Adrien Cole, which you may already know if you've been following the next-gen stuff!

He's adopted by Cole (most likely during his ~Wu Quest~ that we won't get to see rip, hence the last name) when he's 4-5 years old (still kinda waiting on some more DR info before locking that in) after being orphaned as a result of The Merge, but regardless of when he's adopted, he's still about five years younger than Cam.

...okay, it doesn't actually happen like that, as after their reunion post-merge, Cole and Jesse did discuss adopting another child (as Cole still felt terrible about missing a solid chunk of Cam's childhood). It just happened a little sooner and more abruptly than Jesse planned for. Cole was off on his quest and this sad, lost, merge-ruined child just started following him because he seemed like a safe person to be with ;w;)/

And Cole's not gonna turn away a child in need

It takes Adrien a really long time to warm up to Jesse, and even longer to call Cole or Jesse any form of 'Dad', but he's 100% all in on having Cam as a sister.

(And Cam is so excited to have a sibling that she doesn't even care if he's a sourpuss for most the time. He finds her constant zeal for life overwhelming, but refreshing. She's always teaching him new things when she asks without teasing him, which he appreciates)

He's not as energetic as Finn, Quinn, Blaire, Luci, or his sister, but not nearly as uptight Blythe, Seven, or Briar either. He is, however, a lot quicker to get upset with things than anyone else, and is probably the deadpan snarker of the group. Think Kid!Lloyd if he went all in on his emo and/or goth phases snksnksnk

He's a punk drummer! And a painter! But unlike the rest of the family he has a horrible case of stage fright + public speaking, so don't ever expect him to willingly show off....Unless Briar is around (one thing he can relate to Jesse with: having a hopeless crush lmao).

He and Finn have a similar dynamic as Cole and Jay, which Kai thinks is the funniest thing ever. He also gets competitive in physical activities with Quinn and Blair, and he bullies Blythe all the time for "being a nerd" (and is only nice when Briar scolds him for it). He and Seven are chill besties, and Lucina terrifies him (but he'll never say so).

Cole only gives up his powers to Adrien when Adrien says he's ready for it, but Cole does kind of want to do it ASAP, because he fears waiting too long will yield the results of what ended happening to his mom. On the other hand, with all the chaos going on during DR and beyond, Cole fears that he won't be able to protect his family or friends without his powers/strength and that makes him hesitate (even if they have the Blue Crystal exploitation).

Adrien, however, has exceedingly low attunement with the Element of Earth, due to a) his personality and b) not actually being a Descendant, and struggles with his powers even after he get them. His superstength isn't consistent, either (which scares the hell out of Jesse, because what if an accident happens—) but his Vibration Tracing is leagues better than Cole's is/was (to the point of being able to see just with vibrations in the earth. Like Toph, but not quite as cool).

ALSO his weapon is twin sickles which are not actually designed for fighting but are still enough to freak a person out when combined with superstrength hell yeah. it's basically Cole's Scythe + Jesse's Twin Naginata

ALSO he has pink in his outfit not just to rep his other dad BUT because in some older color schemes for Cole he has pink in there especially in his NRG form and I wanted to shoutout to that-

When he uses his equivalent of Earth Punch, instead of getting new markings, the scars along his arms glow instead. Where did the scars along his arms come from? I dunno! Accident as a child, weird birthmark, did it himself.......it's pending.

I've been thinking about kinship terms and forms of address in my fictional cultures and I wanna hear about them in tcol

yknow, this is actually a really good question. i haven't gotten fully into the weeds on culture building yet + unfortunately not all of us can be linguists (side eyeing tolkien like-) so take part of what i'm thinking about with a grain of salt!!!!

however, i think in general people are most likely to call each other by their names when it comes to siblings. casual nicknames occasionally (ie; all of ensio's siblings call him 'en') but like there's no specific "veneration" or "respect" for elder siblings, or elders in general. respect is given based on position or personal fondness/value towards the speaker, so there aren't like honorifics that much.

in fact, i don't think terrae has that many honorifics in general? there are titles when it comes to government entities and positions of power, but most of the time, people are called by their name. its a very... collaborative culture. going along with the handshaking ask i had many moons ago where people tend to grip each other by the shoulders instead of bowing to one another in greeting.

i think this has to do with the very real presence of deities and oracles especially. because even the royal family isn't chosen by birth succession (though it does tend to happen, its not so often that its wholly guaranteed), so why treat someone as beneath you or as having a lower status than you when they could deadass be your king tomorrow you don't know. (not to say that people don't. but i'm talking about on average LMAO). so most people go by their names with each other, which influences the fact that its seen as disrespectful to intentionally name someone directly after someone else (like same name. you can't have a john & john jr situation for instance), and why diminuitives are so popular.

in terms of like titles... i'm boring lol. i may think of better names when i have a brain to start delving into the culture (i'm more focused on what happened and worldbuilding broad elements and systems rn vs like. style of dress and customs rip) so right now most of the honorifics are "king, queen, lord, lady etc" though i will say that there is only ever a main king of lathsbury. king in their word is gender neutral to mean essentially at the top of the food chain or the main person in charge. there's also no restrictions on gender regarding who rules bc everything is oracle based. so this leads us to having things like in the first/second age there were several femme main rulers who were all called king (ie: devorah, blythe, clandestine, dawn, technically anele of kairos but he's bigender so there's that as well).

i feel like romantic love is so overused cause people think they need it so they force themselves into it and thats why so many people are unhappy, and then because community living has been made inaccessible so many people who arent willing to go through the pain/annoyance of a bad relationship (platonic/familial/romantic, aro/ace/straight/etc) just end up "alone" in a sense because their friends and family put so much pressure on it. maybe im insane idk

yeah no you're so right. and there's also the added element of all the friends and family members inevitably getting romantic partners of their own and essentially leaving aspec ppl behind because like. I may be a good friend or whatever but the way society kinda frames romance makes any romantic partner automatically the Most Important Person in my friend/sibling's life so even if we've known each other our whole lives there's still the expectation that they'll treat their romantic relationship w someone they haven't known as long as more important than their friendship with me. and this has happened sooo many times growing up and its only happening more and more as I get older and my friends and siblings all start getting married off and idk. there's loneliness in that because I'll never have someone who I'll be the Most Important Person to. but if anyone even IMPLIES that me being aro means I'm gonna be lonely and sad because I'll never get married I'm ripping their throat out lmao

OOoh worldbuilding! That IS a new question for me, ooh, okay. Well, you asked for a long reply, and a long reply you shall get.

I have gotten a lot of very sweet comments from people telling me how in-character I make the main cast, which brings me a lot of joy, because the amount of work I put into respecting and establishing my principles on the source material is substantial. My first well for sourcing info for my worldbuilding is of course the show, including the unaired episodes. How the characters interact, why they react the way they do, and any lore I can dredge up is usually based around me exploiting some pattern of reactions that I can use to justify a result I want.

FOR EXAMPLE, I've been working into my fics that Gaz is really into robotics and programming, and it's her 'genius' niche that distinguishes her as brilliant.

In "Gaz, Taster of Pork" (a favorite of mine), Gaz forces some demented-looking robotically modified stuffed animals to attack her brother for putting a curse on her. Due to their design, that doesn't look very Professor Membrane-esque, and later with Gaz announcing that SHE programmed them to eat human flesh, we can ascertain that Gaz came up with the design and engineered them herself. That's incredible for a presumably 9-ish year old child to accomplish.

Furthermore, in "Nanozim," Gaz being able to defeat Zim fairly easily also supports a savant-level understanding of robotics. The show more makes it a joke about her talent and obsession with video games, especially when she makes a point to give Dib the "cheat code" to make his robot transform, but I'd argue that it's both. Gaz is obsessed with video games, but her foundational comprehension of robots and programming allowed her to predict and maneuver a robot with such skill and precision that she defeated Zim, a trained soldier, presumably in what was supposed to be his element. Zim is blinded by his own ambition, and his own ego frequently means he's chronically underestimating his foes (usually to his detriment), but he's not actually stupid.

Dib is a genius in his own way, and more obnoxiously vocal about his own brilliance. Gaz obviously gets far less screen time, and is more reserved as a character in general. While she never announces her brilliance, she does make a point to minimize her brother's. Overtly, we're led to believe that it's because she finds him annoying, but secondarily, let's consider this from the viewpoint of siblings. Siblings get competitive and jealous, especially since Dib, as the problem child and simultaneously Membrane's presumed heir, gets more attention from their father. That's one interpretation. The other could be that Membrane isn't worried about Gaz because he already KNOWS she's showing an interest and exceptional talent in a field of his approval.

All of this to justify that I think Gaz likes robots and I can 'prove' it.

Ideally anything I do that's not explicitly laid out in the show, unaired or otherwise, I try and do something to that effect. In my brain, there's an imaginary audience whom I'm presenting my findings to, and an imaginary opponent I need to argue against, and if I don't leave the debate feeling confident, I'll usually scrap it.

So it's not so much as thinking up 'new' bits as it is re-interpreting the source material. I'm essentially trying to expand the lore rather than reinvent it, if I can. Of course I take liberties sometimes for plot sake, what with RE:MHNY being like "well the PAK is kind of brokennn . . . .? yeah" to justify why Gaz wasn't just swallowed whole by Larb in 10 minutes. In which case, I work from plot-premise backwards. In this case, the premise is that Gaz doesn't get PAK-possessed because it's broken. Well then I need to start asking how its broken, and how it GOT broken. What even is PAK? How does it work? I was satisfied with the simpler explanation that PAK's are really complex pieces of machinery that even Irkens don't really understand unless you're a technician/specialist like Skoodge, and it also left the more open-ended, fun prompt of "Well okay, if you're Zim, and you don't understand something, but don't want the other person to know you don't understand it, how would you react?"

In terms of organization, I use google drive to house all my writing content. Everything is separated by category of fandom, then deeper by series, then deeper by which installment of the series. No matter what I'm writing, if it's not a one-shot or a mini-fic like That Thing on Your Wrist, there's a file named "Randoms" that is strictly for writing something I know needs to happen in the story, but that I don't know where to put yet. Otherwise, there's a bunch of other documents with labels that are associated with the event, or if I have one, chapter title. 90% of the storyline and events I'm able to keep in my head, but I'm also trying out this program called Aeon Timeline. Since I'm technologically inept, it's a little confusing, but I think I'm getting the hang of it and may decide to fully integrate it into my workflow.

MOVING ON, aside from the show, some of my friends also ready the comics, and have sent me some good ones. If I think it's funny, or doesn't contradict anything, sometimes the comic lore sneaks into my work too. Aside from that, I do take a lot of insp from other media, shows, books, movies, music, etc. Sometimes music is just the background noise that supports the vibe in writing I'm going for, and sometimes it inspires entire scenes. All of my fics, even my WIPS and unpublished projects, have playlists. It's usually not a direct 1:1 link to any phrase of chapter, it's more of just a mood-setter, with some exceptions. For example, for the Re:MHNY soundtrack, Bells in Santa Fe by Halsey did inspire this line from Gaz in chapter 11.

Dissimilarly, Lavenders by Rivals was just something I imagined as a Zim's perspective panic over Gaz being in danger, as a reference to her hair lmao. There's craziness going on, he's having existential crises, and all the while all he can think about is Gaz.

But I usually use media to answer questions. I don't think Re:MHNY is a reference to anything but its original, but Paradorx and Dead Weight definitely take reference from other sources. Paradorx, for example, has some The Haunting of Bly Manor, Stranger Things, Bee + Puppycat, Scooby Doo, Charmed, etc. and was originally entirely inspired by a visual animatic I pictured listening to Ed Sheeran's "Bad Habits." One day I will post that animatic, but for now, it's one of many things I have that I haven't finished lmao. Dead Weight as a concept is its own, but I do use other media to answer questions. Like, I for one know nothing about soldiers, or what their training would look like, let alone alien genocidal ones. Similar to music, there's no 1:1 scene copies, but some of the psychological torture was insp'd from shows like Evangelion, Squid Game, Sabrina, etc. I like to watch how other people tackle answers to questions I have, or ideas. How do characters reaction under pressure before and after they realize failure could mean death? How does a character handle the shame of not meeting the standards of societal pressure? What about pressure from a more personal source, like family? What if it's coming from both? Etc.

I use media to fuel my stories when needed, and I use my stories as elaborate tools to justify a story I want to tell. I find it really helpful during development to ask myself "what's the point of this?" Dead Weight, for example, is ultimately a deep dive into Irken society, militarism, and how in spite of the very specific, streamlined efforts to root it out, individuality, friendship, and love can still blossom within it. Re:MHNY was about Zim finally answering his own question of what could possibly be more fulfilling than servitude to the Armada, and recovering from a lifetime spent under the thumb of the Tallest, and all that it entailed. For Gaz, it was forcing herself to change, to accept the affection and support of someone who wasn't family, and opening herself up to vulnerability. (Dib's story arc actually ends on a half-note, and is finished up in 2, so I'll forego discussing that one for now).

I feel like this season theres a lot more suspension of disbelief in everything thats going on. Like everything from how TBH and his crew opperate with their weird realitybending gimmicks to the procession of events. I do overall enjoy this season more than season 1 but only because the original material allows for fun interactions that isn't constrained by plot reasons. The plot is just not that great lets be honest and more of a side acessory to the main draw of seeing characters we love interact with each other

in shit show at the fuck factory, the shivrome fight seems fairly well-matched, rome taking the element of surprise with a slap, shiv quickly getting him in a headlock but rome just as quickly getting out of it. then later in the episode shiv uses the element of surprise as well, making roman flinch so hard he knocks his head on a door. they'd give it their all with each other, each perfectly willing to fight as dirty as they need to.

(i'm guessing bc kieran genuinely did kick the absolute fuck out of jeremy lmao rip.) there is that well-placed too much birthday shove, but in fairness that was not kendall, that was a husk of a man, it hardly counts.

oh and real quick before i forget (in the long-standing tradition of succ fans who always forget), connor would not fight his siblings. not because he's like, their sweet older brother who doesn't want to hurt them uwu, or whatever, but bc he's too wuss for that much conflict. he wouldn't even try.

so i got C.Y.R.I.S, master of wind (pix gets it from morro after she defeats the preeminent in ns11), and Loid, future master of ice. he's not allowed to have his dad's power yet because his parents and granddad messed up his programming. he's basically cryptor 2.0 cause they were building him at borg tower where cry's old backup code accidentally got crossed with his, so that's his character arc lol. anyway him and cyris are red oni, blue oni to each other and fight constantly but they learn to have each other's backs no matter what. also, through plot shenanigans, morro is revived, elemental-less, and part of their team with him often giving cy unsolicited mentorship on wind and butting heads with her brother, usually over their discrepancy in intelligence (loid is unfortunately not very smart, meanwhile morro IS smart and he knows it lmao)

my other sibling group is nyrei, infant daughter of the sea, and her big brothers the lightning twins. don't have names for them yet rip. when nya first returns from the ocean, she's still half water and believes she will be forever. she and jay agree to adopt when they're ready for kids (i'm pretty sure she canonically wants children and jay would totally go for adoption), but soon after they're surprised with nyrei who inherits her mom's power and becomes part ocean herself when she's born (well like nya finds out she's pregnant when she starts losing her powers and turning fully human). a couple years later, jay meets the twins and knows instinctively they're the ones, adopting them immediately, and he passes his power onto them early so he can be equal with nya. they're too young to go on ninja adventures but they take good care of their baby sister~ since jay learns to control wojira's purple lightning during my seabound rewrite, he uses both colors while one twin uses blue and the other purple. when the three sibs get older and combine their powers, chaos ensues lol, like they'll be able to create a giant water avatar that shoots lightning, it'll be great

anyway, i understand this is SUPER het and i apologize if that's not welcome lol >.< the rest of the ninja still hold their powers, most haven't met their life partners yet, and aren't thinking about the whole children thing which are the only OCs i've turned over in my brain at this time. pixane and jaya are just the obligatory straights who either had circumstances or characterization reasons for it, like pix didn't want to be an EM to begin with/zane's had too many close calls/post-seabound jaya having a 'barbossa, marry us!' moment, so it all just kinda works out like this. thank you for enabling everyone, hope it wasn't too long :D

Aye! This is awesome! You definitely have your own canon going on which I can relate! I also LOVE that one of your pixane kids is named Cryis (spelling it differently is a nice touch) in my canon, Pixane’s son goes by “CJ” for Cyrus Julien. Wild how this kid has taken on the names of BOTH the founders of Nindroids. I digress because I could go on and on about their story.

I’m very curious about why you chose the name Loid. And I love the kids dynamic. CJ and Shae have something similar going on where they don’t get along very well (it takes hundreds of years for them to learn 😬).

Also lightning twins?? So cool. I can totally see that happening in canon if Ninjago ever makes it to the next gens.

What’s this I’m hearing about a Seabound rewrite? Inch resting. The concept of Jay learning to control purple lightning is SO COOL. I wonder what the differences are between them. Nya being half water and passing that down to her child is just aaaa. That is such a cool idea and has a lot of angst potential.

Okay I just discovered your story Exiled from Court and I loved it! How did you come up with the story and the characters? What would you say inspired you to write this story? And whatt was your favorite scene to write? Bunch of questions sorry!

This got a little long so I put it under a read more!

I came up with Exiled from Court last year while taking a break from my other WIP, An Elemental Existence. I wanted to work on something with a more fun protagonist (An Elemental Existence's MC is fun to write, but they're a whiny teenager who hasn't had much experience in life yet), and also something more adult - I was in a different phase of my life, having turned 18 a few months before, and wanted to write something that represented this new Messy phase of going out, getting drunk and letting the consequences for the next day (before the pandemic at least.... rip).

I've always been very interested in history, particularly Brazil's Empire phase, a lot of it brought on by my father's interest in this topic. I also hadn't seen any IF games that set place in Brazil, or even South America, and I wanted something that could honor my country, not stereotype it (favela! futebol! Neymar! etc.) while still being honest about how difficult things are here in the Brazilian land.

As for inspiration: I believe the biggest one was the TV show Fleabag, particularly the main character. I was awed how they constructed such a complex, charming, deeply troubled main character that fucked up so often, yet I kept rooting for her and wanted her to be able to help herself and quit her self-destructive tendencies. And though I know I'm still far from reaching any of the Fleabag's writers' ability, I certainly would like to get there!

Another inspiration was two Brazilian books: O Chalaça by José Roberto Torero and A Carne e o Sangue by Mary Del Priore.

Last but not least: my fave scene to write is a hard question, but I think, up until now, it would have to be the first conversation between The Hedonist and their sister, Evie, after years of no contact. I'm my own worst critic (as many writers are) but I very much enjoy how I've been able to write their complex relationship and show that, although Evie is a difficult character who finds it easier to blame their sibling for everything instead of taking accountability for her mistakes, too, she still very much loves them sibling and wishes they would just get it together lmao She just... has no idea how to say it.

Ninjago is something that always has been and always will be close to my heart. As someone whose been here since the beginning, in honor of just finishing rewatching the first two seasons with my brother (we’re gonna watch more tomorrow), I’d like to share some of my best memories with anyone that cares to listen (feel free to share yours in the comments!).

Prologues/Season 1: Watching it with my Dad and siblings, being completely surprised that Zane is a nindroid, ALL OF THE TRUE POTENTIAL EPISODES HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT, being absolutely shocked when it was revealed Lloyd was the Green Ninja, calling our old T.V. a “rip off” when my Dad was having trouble starting it so we could watch an episode (I believe the exact episode was one towards the end of the season), the scene where the Great Devourer zooms in on the camera at the end of the second-to-last episode scaring the SHIT out of me, almost sobbing when Sensei Wu was eaten, almost sobbing when the Bounty was destroyed, being on the edge of my seat as the Ninja subdue the Great Devourer, screaming with joy when they did it, jumping with joy when Sensei Wu was revealed to be alive, being excited for the next season to see what happened next.

Season 2: Being glad that the Bounty was back, but also being upset it was now in Garmadon’s possession, laughing at Darreth’s antics, pajama men being the funniest shit, NinjaBallRun being FUCKING ICONIC (Season 2 had a lot of those episodes), seeing Lloyd turn older marked one of my first childhood crushes, biting my nails hoping that the Ninja would be able to correct the past, the Overlord creeping me the FUCK out, furrie Garmadon, my Dad/siblings and I cheering for Lloyd during the final battle, being happy af that Garmadon was turned good in the end.

Season 3: Dad stopped actively watching with us at this point. I’m actually only gonna describe my memories from one scene, that being Zane’s death scene since it’s the one I remember most. Dude, my sister (the oldest) was BAWLING her eyes out. Meanwhile, my brother and I had tears in our eyes, our mouths agape, and we just had to sit there and deal with it. It was SO SAD. I still get sad when watching it. Kudos to the creators, they made what I assume to be thousands of children cry. Kudos.

Season 4: OOOOOO BOI, SIMPING WASN’T A COMMON WORD BACK THEN, BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MY SISTER AND I WERE DOING FOR SLEEVELESS NINJA (MORE SPECIFICALLY ME THAN HER). We were all relieved that Zane was alive, the reveal of a bunch of different Elemental Masters was the most unexpected thing to us children, Skylor’s betrayal to the Ninja SHOCKING us, the Dragons being cool as fuck, Garmadon’s sacrifice being super sad, MY BROTHER AND I ONLY TALKING ABOUT “WHAT IS MORRO?” FOR LIKE THEEE MONTHS STRAIGHT LMAO.

Season 5: I immediately fell in love with Morro. That’s it. Send tweet. Lol, anyways- I thought Ronin was cool af, Airjitsu being The Shit, NYA BEING REVEALED TO BE THE WATER NINJA WAS LIKE WHATTTTTTTTT, I loved it. Absolutely dying of laughter at the Chima cameo, super sad that Morro died, I loved and still love him.

Also, fun fact: my sister stopped watching after Cole became a ghost because she was SO PISSED that they would do that, she still hasn’t got caught up even after we told her that he was turned back in Day of the Departed.

Season 6: This is where my memory blurs. I remember being shocked at Nya’s ‘death’, but apart from that, I can’t actively remember my feelings.

As for Season 7, I only remember that Acronix was funny. And that’s where we end. I’ve watched up the where Aspheera comes in, but I didn’t really pay attention due to being pissed that they changed the Ninja (I do remember despising Harumi). Now that I’m a bit older, I’m willing to give it a shot (the show ONLY, the movie forever stays unwatched), but I’ll be rewatching it all in order. The FF7 world has been living in my head rent free ever since I played Remake for the first time. So I’m gonna talk about my FF7 s/i. She’s... really something. She’s not completely fleshed out yet, but I still think she’s pretty cool. 

Let’s gooooooooo!

My self insert for the ff7 world is a Turk working under Shinra Inc. Shinra are the villains for the most part, and the Turks do some pretty morally-gray stuff for them.  She looks pretty much identical to me/my fe3h s/i. Tan skin, red glasses, black hair, and the signature Turks suit. She doesn’t have anything too special going on with her suit. Just a white shirt along with a black tie, a black coat, and black pants paired with some black boots. She occasionally leaves the buttons on her blazer open.  She’s also pretty short (I’m around 5’2 😭). Tseng and Rude both stand at around 6 feet, so she always looks pretty small next to them. 

Since she’s a Turk, she sometimes has to fight her way out of sticky situations.  Her main weapon of choice is the same as my fe3h s/i! She’s a spellcaster!

She’s a Materia specialist and fights using different kinds of orbs of Materia, and is always sure to keep many on her so she’s always prepared. She mainly keeps elemental types of Materia with her, but she’s sure to keep some healing ones along with a Time Materia. She’s not against a few summons either. She has a little belt of them that she wears because carrying around that many fragile glass-like orbs without it + her clumsiness? ...Yikes.  (Also she can, will, and does do the fe3h Trickster thing where she shoots magic out of fingerguns. One of my favorite classes in the game for sure. Felix in a suit with fingerguns is one of the best things I’ve ever seen.) 

She doesn’t use a physical weapon very often whatsoever, but when she does, it’s usually a handgun. Swords are cool and she likes them. She’s not too skilled with then and isn’t keen on the sight of injury, but she has an admiration. They’re usually too bulky for her to keep on her suit, though, so she usually just has her Materia along with a gun. Please don’t be surprised if she whips out a sword every now and then though. She sometimes pairs her Materia with her gun as well because ✨elemental bullets✨

One of my headcanons (but wait.. if it’s my s/i... wouldn’t that be canon...? anyways-) is that Materia can be embedded in tattoo ink which is then applied to the body to infuse the person with the power of that Materia very slightly. Now, it can’t be anything major because in the Turks side game, one of the characters has shards of Materia in her arm, and it slowly eats away at her life force. So let’s, uh, avoid that. I like to think that maybe (I’m still thinking about this one) Ash has some very small hand-tattoos embedded with either Cure or Fire Materia. The Cure one helps her both cure very small wounds on herself and/or on others when she doesn’t have her full Cure orb on her. As for the Fire one, there’s a lot of handy situations in which just a little bit of fire can be useful, so that’s that. Again, this is just a thought, but I think it’s pretty goddamn cool! Also would explain why I’m so tired all the time lmao!

Also Materia is pretty and I love it. The colors are interesting too. 

Adding onto that, she also really likes jewelry. Materia infused jewelry was something I thought of, but I’m not quite sure about that? She already has a wide assortment on her, so I think she would just settle for normal jewelry. Just like many of the other Turks, she’s always wearing small earrings. However, on missions where she can’t have all her gear on her, she will have Materia infused jewelry. Also, sometimes it’s just cute so. It depends on the day. Also! Since part of the uniform is gloves (she prefers fingerless), she doesn’t really get a chance to wear rings, unfortunately. When she’s not wearing gloves, though, she usually has some rings on. 

Is part of the Turks initiation process a trip to Claire’s?

I like to think that she’s pretty friendly and that she gets along well with her team. She’s either very serious or a total goofball depending on the situation. Expect many bad puns and snarky comments. She tries her best to fulfil her duties as a Turk, but they can sometimes be difficult for her since her emotions can sometimes cloud her judgement. She’s a very emotional person. The Sector 7 Job screws her up quite a bit. I’m not sure if she’s a Turk then or not, but just knowing that her team was responsible for that many deaths puts a bitter taste in her mouth. 

When combat can be avoided, she will take that route. She’s no pacifist, she would just prefer to do things with her words than with her flames. However, there are exceptions to this (*coughs in Don Corneo* She will gladly rip that man apart.) When she’s not on the active field during missions, she’ll stay back with Tseng and go through information, helping him guide the team. Her and Tseng are pretty close, despite being so different. 

Being completely honest, one of her favorite parts of her position is having access to so much information. She enjoys reading a lot, along with gaming. 

As for relationships with her team, they’re all pretty strong. 

Her and Tseng have some differing values, but they get along fairly well. She’s very cautious about her wording around him at first. He’s a scary guy, and him being leader doesn’t help. He can be very cold sometimes, but he’s a good listener. She relaxes around him eventually, and he becomes someone who she goes to very often for support. I like to think that she goes to him after the Sector 7 situation to talk about her feelings about it. I also think that he may have been the one who recruited her into the team in the first place? She owes a lot to him, and looks up to him a lot. Learning about how caring he was when he was younger only increases her admiration. She sometimes doesn’t agree with some of his more twisted logic, but she also understands that he has duties to fulfil and a team to manage. He’s trying his best to comfort them. 

Her and Reno are bros. Reno brings out her more wild side, and those two together are the very definition of chaotic. They’re always cracking jokes with each other and for them, being together is a blast. He was one of the first who reached out to her back when she was still new on the team, and when Rude isn’t available, he talks to her a lot. He appreciates how easy she is to talk to. They share the same braincell, and their jokes are very stupid. Their team missions are pretty fun. I also like to think that they play video games together in their free time! I love their friendship SO much!!! Ash definitely has her smarter moments, and is very knowledgeable on a lot of things, but together, they share a singular braincell.  An important thing to add about them is that sometimes she can be a bit of a mom-friend towards him when they’re not fooling around? She knows when enough is enough and when to rein him in. They both have their more serious moments, and their understanding of each other definitely helps on more serious missions. In a nutshell, they’re just two bros and I love them a lot. They understand each other.  Also, their fighting styles compliment each other quite a bit, so that’s fun. 

Ash and Rude is a friendship I really appreciate. Rude is not a man of many words, and Ash is very talkative. However, you quickly learn that Rude is very caring and prefers to show his affection in smaller gestures and actions. It takes a while for Rude to become more open with her, but it happens. He always listens to her rambles and although he might not say much, he remembers every single detail. She reminds him a bit of Reno, and he’s been dealing with a Reno for the past 7-some years. Their relationship is very wholesome, and Ash always encourages him to voice his thoughts. Also, he gives very good hugs when she needs them. She’s very sensitive and can be very affected by some of the stuff she sees while on duty, and he’s very protective of her. Her attitude and rambles confuse Rude sometimes, but he tries to be a good friend. Also they can kick ass together big time.  In conclusion, Rude and Ash = big soft hours. 

Okay, let’s talk about Ash and Elena. Elena is a character that I personally adore so much because it took me a while to like her. My initial reaction to playing the original ff7 and seeing her was simply, “Oh, great. Yes, make the only female Turk super clumsy and shit at her job- And give her no personality outside of that and crushing on Tseng. I mean, mood, and same, but really?”  But then I researched the Turks game.  (I have yet to read the novels btw)

And I realized that me and Elena are similar in so many ways other than being very clumsy and simping for Tseng (he’s hot, okay- then again, I simp for all the Turks. they are VERY fine.) We have very similar personalities, constantly want to punch things, and also have similar relationships with being the youngest sibling. I really understand Elena and I love her. You look into her character and realize that she’s super strong and dependable, smart and gorgeous. She’s amazing. 

Ash and Elena, like I said, are pretty similar in terms of personality. So they really understand each other and get along very well!! They’re very close friends, and kinda live on the same mental wi-fi. They click very well on first meeting, and that click stays for very long time and only gets stronger as time passes. Ash feels as though she can discuss anything with her because Elena gets it. Also, missions in which they’re paired up together are always fun. They’re both pretty smart, but have a tendency to let their emotions cloud (heh, cloud-) their judgment. But when they’re together, they can keep each other check and in turn, kick ass together. They also have a mutual hatred for Don Corneo. I hate that man. Fighting together is pretty fun since Ash can stay back and spam her spells while Elena punches the crap out of their target.  In conclusion, these two are very close and they’re besties. They have a mutual understanding of each other in a lot of different fields. 

Thank you SO much for the opportunity to spill my thoughts about this, my friend!! Was a very very fun time! The Turks are always living in my head, so I’m glad to speak about them anytime. This definitely helped me organize my thoughts a bit and helped sorta motivate me to write about Ash and her Turk friends?? I can feel my half-written Felix fics in my drafts glaring at me, but regardless, I’m very excited. They have a super fun dynamic.  Thanks for listening!

April 26th: Talk about special interests. Do you have special interests? If not do you wish you did? What do your special interests mean to you? What are your current special interests? What are your past special interests? idk like i know i sure have & have had Interests, some more of interest than others, and it's also like, oh yeah i guess the ways i held that interest / explored it pretty intently / extensively / at length didn't always seem to be the way other people always felt about things even if we shared the interest, but yknow, at the same time it doesn't necessarily seem as extensive or major as some of the aspects of defining a Special Interest(tm) can be, i haven't been too pressed about it, but of course it's like, i have my Things lol, i.e. yeah this thing is kind of My Thing....and then i can look back on Things like. well idk when i was really little and you're just gonna like Cool Stuff, i did have the thing of like, i like dinosaurs and did sorta casually collect dinosaur stuff, easy enough b/c they make that stuff for kids, memorized a bunch of dinosaur Names so that just being asked to recite a bunch was something i was known to be able to do, a big fan of a couple semi educational computer games we had, shoutout to 3d dinosaur adventure and this magic school bus dinosaur (and ocean) game, had pajamas ft dinosaurs, rip to when i had a sick metal lunchbox with dinosaurs on it and it just broke on like week 1 of first grade or whatever and i just had to go back to default lunchboxes. well and then but anyways but from then on it was like, well, i guess it's media time......read a shit ton all the time, was into some tv series / movies, played some pc / video games, there was stuff i'd be glad to revisit over and over, and yknow, as this went on it'd be like, well now when there's A Relatable Enough Character in something i also like just in general, that's a powerful combo, though sometimes it's like, yeah i like this thing enough even in the absence of any particular [and i extra go hard about this character] element, that's not Not at play as it's like "well and i guess i will think about this quant every day for years now lmfao," and i can sure always talk about stuff At Length too, which sure is not something other people are generally interested in, but if/when they are, it's like okay great, this is a great connection point then, b/c otherwise it's like, i generally don't know what to say about myself, didn't get much practice, did pick up a sense of like, well stuff is Wrong about myself and my life so i shouldn't share it and also i'm not picking up friends so it was generally accurate that no one was exactly interested lmao. small talk is really more of a barrier / test you can just potentially fail, yet anything more personal is Oversharing, but hey i would earnestly love to talk at length about This Thing, so great when other people are into that at all lol and then if we vibe it's like, obviously that's the sort of functional "small talk" route here lol to being able to be more familiar w/each other and talk more generally, even if yknow, wuh oh, i'm kind of cagey outside those Interests i will talk about in ways that's probably "too much" by most ppl's standards, worst of both worlds when it comes to forming relationships but oh well, it is what it is and i sure don't consider it a bad thing i have plenty to say about things i Want to talk about, and it sure doesn't impede on anyone else if i'm Not Talking about other shit.

also then it's like, "idk what it is when you just determinedly Pursue something that's maybe still not the hugest deal, but i don't really feel very pressed re: figuring it out" like, does it count like how i mentioned today i'd read bird guides for fun as a kid, and watch this bird documentary and be like "hey. check out this scene in this bird documentary with this bird mimicry" to friends i now realize were probably mostly bemused by this, and really liked birds just generally (still true), and thus have like, maybe more Bird Knowledge than the average random person but also am hardly some self taught ornithological expert. or how i'm big into linguistics and etymology and, in theory, language learning, always really latching on to the little i was taught in school, also perusing some Language Guides available, and like, not really self teaching a bit re: learning some of a couple languages, just learning via teaching resources outside of [directly through any academic institution], never took any language classes, sure have no fluency in fuckall.........how about that i just decided as a kid like "hm i want to be able to draw" b/c i felt that way (and yknow, still do in a way lol) about pretty much anything, but i just also liked doodling and took some art classes and it was always this casual thing and now i use this to make fanart for the Media Interests lol, and although this is all digital drawing and drawing was always my primary thing it's like, well okay also yeah there was like, some painting / pastels / sculpting other Visual Arts stuff, and then, like, i sure enjoyed dance classes and the Performing Arts aspect of that, theatre gay adjacent b/w that and choir lol, have regular dreams about being part of impromptu dance performances, including just last night, rip to the special thwarting of "oh no i'm going around trying to get food before the show, getting stuck in traffic or lost in stores, and i've missed my whole first appearance" lol. anxiety dreams never end........and idk, i've had a love for math stuff, physics stuff, space stuff, even felt that [!] for the little i was able to get into circuitry and coding, but yknow. learning that shit is kind of involved and i only had so much experience re: taking classes, also, unfortunately, i always hated school lmao, so it's just kind of there where i'm like oh i get Into this shit in the ways that other people who are definitely Into it feel about it lmao. but yeah, idk, i do have like. well here's this sort of stuff i think about Every Day, this sort of mental home base sometimes, that i don't get tired of and reexplore / reexperience pretty intensively, but at the same time like, sometimes i can just sort of have something be that Interest for a lot more of a temporary duration, and things that were that main shit is like, well Probably when i like it that much once i like it down the line even if i haven't been that focused on it in the meantime, more just latent, but then it's like, well, but probably could and would still talk So Much about it still even if it's not like, oh yeah i'm Into This(tm) right Now lol..........idk! but i sure get really into shit and like, if anyone else is interested in me talking at length / drawing about it, that's sure probably the most successful grounds for Connection lmao cuz yknow. even people who maybe share that interest aren't guaranteed to see that and go "yeah this is someone i'm interested in actually talking to though" like yeah here's your preview of my personality i guess lol

Do you have a favourite series? yeah i read all the time as a kid, on the bus, if i finished shit early at school, on the bus again, also at home plenty, not so much when i was in college when it's like oh i can just do kinda whatever now (also as people point out it's like. well gotta do all this reading for classes now so) and then it was like, i'll get into other Media i can freely experience at any time, and also hang out with people Some, which i can also just do whenever now, as opposed to at any point before this......still like reading but it can sure kind of be a Whole Thing, like i either can't focus and it's like well time to read like, a paragraph or page a day, or else i'm focusing Too Much really like, if i'm at all trying to see how something ends i might burn through it in a few days (still a fairly slow reader) which is like, do i want to spend multiple days on this One Thing, even if it takes me like, multiple times the runtime to watch a movie or something, that's still probably getting done in 1 day. plus that yeah, mostly reading new shit via laptop, which is kind of a pain as opposed to physical books or like, e readers in theory, i've never actually used one. the only time i used an audiobook was a few times as a kid to read along with longer books to sort of help with that momentum, such a hot minute ago that this was via Tape Cassette.....i do listen to podcasts though, great for like, doing Something Else at the same time, which i don't know that i could split up that focus and guaranteed successfully absorb a book, Maybe So but select podcasts are my Extensive Audio of choice. never really watched that much tv, there were some stuff me and my siblings might watch as it aired, but not really Narrative Series lol, never seen shit, haven't even really watched That many movies either, still don't Really even though it's like yeah w/e in Theory i enjoy these mediums it's like oh my godddd it's a whole thing to focus on one and then plus what if i don't like it but i've had to put in all that time to know i didn't like it lmao.......i can enjoy keeping up with a tv series like, oh boy once a week a half hour to hour installment, that's a great format truly, but i'm rarely getting that experience lmao like. with billions you could stand 2 weeks between episodes b/c whew but it's v Rare like oh thank god, a series with that weekly release........but otherwise it's like ugh do i wanna have alllll this material to watch, do i wanna go through the whole process of figuring out what movie i feel like giving a try........and that i like Revisiting shit i already like pretty endlessly so it's like, i might just do that. so it's like, audio wise i'll put on podcasts, if i feel like watching something i Might be bothered to try out a movie or smthing b/c yknow, ultimately more doable to consume something that's just a few hours, all that when i'm Thinking About a tv series every day for years lmfao, shoutout to billions which sure gets to be my fave b/c tf else am i keeping up with, literally nothing else, even if i haven't gotten around to actually watching all of it yet / haven't simply sat straight through even the episodes i have watched, i Could do it but it's like god formidable when it's sure more than a movie's worth of content and plenty of "i don't care about this and/or hate this" to make me put my head through the wall lmfao thank you billions........also sometimes i remember like "oh yeah, i guess in theory i enjoy video games as well" but i didn't have That much experience w/them and sure don't now, so that's like well irrelevant ig. media

A whole buncha shit went down in Chapter 12 today and we got a new Chimera fight to begin shaking up the shadow meta in preparation for the new mana spiral batch and the new Agito fight, but like 90% of my brainpower is currently being spent thinking about how the new influx of wyrmite rewards let me do another tenfold on the Valentine’s banner, which finally got me Epimetheus.

But I still have some thoughts on the new chapter so I’m gonna put them under a cut because of spoilers

I’m feeling extremely vindicated in my choice to dream summon Laranoa, since chapter 12 ended up having flame enemies, and she even showed up in the story, which is like the last thing I saw coming.

Even though my water team is probably my weakest one overall, I didn’t actually have too much difficulty with anything up until the last couple of Very Hard battles, which I wasn’t able to do, and probably won’t be able to for a while.

I still think that the higher difficulty main campaign maps are really fun and well-balanced, though. It’s pretty rare to get challenging content based around dealing with waves of mob enemies. It really forces you to play differently, especially in Very Hard where every enemy hits super hard.

And on the note of the main bosses in the chapter, I’m still wondering if the whole deal with the cube bosses is actually gonna lead somewhere. Thus far they’re just this giant question-mark with no real in-universe explanation or acknowledgement, and their whole sci-fi vibe and the cryptic references to space probes just feels like the exact opposite of how the rest of the game is. It’s possible that they’re just there to be challenging boss fights with no real context behind them, but I kinda hope something happens with them. Maybe once we’ve gotten one for each element.

Story-wise this chapter was shorter and a bit less eventful than I expected, but it was still really fun. It really feels like things are heating up now. Especially with how it ended, it really feels like the first half of a two-chapter story arc, so that’s probably why it felt kinda brief. It definitely raised a lot of interesting questions that’ll probably get addressed in the next chapter.

First of all, the big elephant in the room is the reveal that apparently we’re going to see the fifth heir in the next chapter, which just kinda came out of nowhere, lol. I really thought they’d be a mystery for longer than this.

It’s not like there’s anything to go on one way or another, but I kinda hope that the fifth heir is that wyrmclan leader we saw that looks a whole lot like Euden. But who knows.

They’re still a huge mystery, but the stuff with Phares in this chapter makes me think that the fifth heir is somehow involved in the whole concept of black mana and how it corrupts dragons, if we’re meant to assume that Phares showing up with the void dragons at the end of the chapter was related to him getting help from the fifth heir. Which might explain why Chelle and Leonidas seemed genuinely freaked out at the idea of Phares working with their mystery sibling. I don’t think the idea of black mana has been introduced or explored at all outside of the descriptions of the void bosses, so it’ll be cool if it gets properly explored soon.

And on that note, I really wasn’t expecting this chapter to provide an actual in-universe explanation for stuff like the void dragons and the IO bosses. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s nice that the void dragons aren’t just in their own little weird pocket of ambiguous canon.

It’s kinda weird to see the main story basically introduce the concept of void battles when those have been in the game forever, but it’s nice to see them finally addressing it, lol.

The whole deal with Leonidas talking about ‘dracoshifting’ is also totally a hint at a future game mechanic, isn’t it? People have been wondering for a while now if there’s going to be some sort of revamp to dragons as a mechanic to basically rebalance them according to the current needs of the endgame meta, and I could totally see some variation of what Leonidas did to Mars being used to explain a new mechanic about buffing existing dragons. I imagine that if we get to do it, we’d do it in a more humane way than Leonidas, but still.

I’ve been thinking ever since they introduced mana spirals for adventurers that dragons should probably get something like that to make them better, and I could see this basically being how they do it. I dunno exactly how they’d do it, but maybe it’ll be like promoting dragons to make them stronger and giving them a new sci-fi design like Mars has. There’s definitely a lot of old dragons that need some sort of buff to make them more relevant. I’d want it to be slowly rolled out for specific dragons that need it, though, like with mana spirals.

Mainly I think that the 60% strength dragons probably need a buff since we’re starting to get conditional 80% strength dragons, but there’s also other relatively weak 5-star dragons like Prometheus, Takemikazuchi, Nidhogg, etc, that could use a buff.

This also might be a good way for them to make it worthwhile to actually be shapeshifted for a while, instead of just using the dragon to use a single skill or to tank a hit. At the moment they’re basically all weaker than if you weren’t shapeshifted, but maybe this sort of buff would also lead to their shapeshifted forms being way better. Which would at least be great for characters like Xainfried, Mym, Lathna, etc.

I’m also kinda wondering now if this chapter might be setting up for Leonidas joining us and being playable eventually. It kinda feels like that’s what they’re setting up, but honestly I kinda hate all of Euden’s siblings and I don’t really want to see any of them become our allies, lol. Also Leonidas would probably just be a flame sword, and we really don’t need more of them.

On a similar note I think it’s pretty safe to say that we’re probably getting Gala Alex next month. I dunno if I’ll go out of my way to save for her, but we’ll see. I’m curious to see what her gala alt would play like, though, especially if she’s still a shadow unit. There’s just a whole lot of competition in shadow at the moment. Either way, I think she’ll probably end up being a sword. Shadow doesn’t really have any noteworthy sword units at the moment, so that’d be nice.

Once we get into March I might start saving for her, but for now I’m probably gonna put some resources into the new dragon banner, since all of the featured ones really interest me [especially Apollo since I don’t have him yet], and I just got Epimetheus so now I’m done with the Valentine’s banner.

That also reminds me that at this point it’s basically confirmed that both Epimetheus and the three old Valentine’s adventurers are permanent now, which is really interesting. I guess this means that later this year they’ll make the old Halloween and Christmas units permanent, too. That’d be a nice way to keep introducing new holiday units without it getting bloated and hard to manage. And honestly most of the older holiday units aren’t particularly good anymore, so there’s no real harm in making them permanent. RIP in pieces to all the people who whaled for V-Hilde, though, lol. Maybe now that she’s permanent she has a chance of getting a mana spiral to make her better.

Anyway, I’ve felt a little let down by some of the recent story chapters, but I ended up really liking this one. Now I’m excited to see what reveals and developments the next chapter brings.

I’m also still extremely hyped about the upcoming shadow mana spiral batch, and the new Agito fight. I’m still clinging onto my pipe dream wish of them improving Norwin by making him more like V-Addis or Natalie. I’ve actually been thinking some more about the different ways that could go [even after I made a whole post about it lmao], and I think it’d be interesting if in addition to adding an enmity effect to his S1, they added an effect to his S2 where he takes non-lethal damage relative to the amount of damage he does to the enemy with the skill, as a way to manually get him down to low health. So I guess in that case he’d be more like a shadow version of Chelsea, which could be fun. I also think there’s a lot of interesting things they could do with him by, say, adding a team health regen effect to his Blind = Team Strength ability. But who knows. I just want him to get some special attention and become genuinely good because I really love him, lol. Though in general I like the idea of them using mana spiral upgrades to basically give certain characters a whole different play-style. Sorta like how Karl can now be used more or less as a buffer, but that has more to do with D-Rathalos than Karl’s mana spiral. It’s still an interesting way to give older units a niche in the meta.
