Pulled Pork…Parfait? This reminds me of Paul Hollywood’s version of s’mores on GBBO. But the important question is now that it has been committed, how does it TASTE? Any reports from the culinary front line? (It looks like something a posh deli in gentrified Brooklyn might serve. Do you think someone would be interested in licensing it from you and Scifigrl47?)
I mean, as far as I'm concerned they can have it, but Sci really did think that bit up (as far as I recall) so it's her call :D
I have to admit I'm loving the horrified reactions to the GBBO s'mores. In part because I dislike Bakeoff intensely, so people being mad at them delights me. But in much larger part because the entire thing plays into a conversation about gentrification and elevation that so many people are so clearly unready to enter into.
It has been very common in the last ten, fifteen years, in America and I think also in the UK, for a white chef to open a restaurant that "elevates" a certain kind of ethnic food. "Elevate" generally means removing strength of flavor or "unpalatable" elements like organ meats, and is hugely insulting to the culture the food derives from. Occasionally you will get chefs from nonwhite cultures making particularly gourmet or modern takes on their culture's food, but even if they aren't calling it elevated, food critics often condescendingly will. Or white patrons will get upset when asked to pay Michelin-star prices for foods they're used to seeing as "2am drunk food" or at best "cheap eats". (More on that here.)
So it's pretty amusing to me to see people losing their shit over GBBO s'mores, because a lot of people who have never encountered this are now experiencing how insulting it is for their cultural foodstuffs to be "elevated". I don't give Paul Hollywood much credit as a satirist but if he did it intentionally it would have been a brilliant troll. As is it's still quite funny to see people seethe.

COOKING
Poached eggs with rose petals and Middle Eastern Sweet Cheese.

One underrated thing they did in the Wild Era, by introducing cooking, is that chicken is just not a type of meat that you can eat in Hyrule. You can eat other birds, you can eat wolves, you can eat whatever you like, you can even eat monsters (hell you can even eat little pieces of Ganondorf's flesh and blood if you like).
But nobody, and I mean nobody eats a cucco.

Absolutely astounding. Blew the minds of a bunch of twelve-year-olds because they asked what I usually eat for breakfast (their options that day were cereal, bagels with cream cheese/grape jelly, or "breakfast rounds" which are, in fact, baked oatmeal stop telling me this isn't a cookie it's a fucking cookie it's ROUND). I mentioned it depends on my mood, but right now I'm going through my avocado toast phase. Everyone laughed because haha look at the Millennial only a Millennial could like boring avocado toast it doesn't even taste like anything.
Me: ...It tastes like whatever seasoning you use.
Students: :0 Seasoning?
Me: ..................Yeah? I season the avocado.
Students: What :0
Me: Today I didn't want to eat at all so I just seasoned it with salt and pepper? But most days I make a quick guacamole. Are you guys just... eating it straight out of the skin? No salt even?
Students: Seasoning... :0

university friendship fic say whatttt?
Nancy came home the following morning, showered, and got ready to head to breakfast. She approached the elevator, pressed the ‘down’ button, and waited for the elevator car to stop on her floor. Moments later, the doors opened for Nancy to see a disheveled Carlos in the same clothes from the previous night. She was speechless, covering her mouth with her hand to keep herself from cackling.
“Someone had some fun last night,” Nancy said as she entered the elevator car. “You’re coming to breakfast with me and telling me EVERYTHING.”
“Ugh.” Carlos groaned, “Can I at least shower first?”
“I guess.” Nancy was grinning ear to ear, she didn’t even know what his night looked like but from context clues, she was so proud of him.

Fives: I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that this is just another conspiracy theory that blames The Chancellor who is working in conjunction with the Separatists to take down the republic
Kix: I'm actually thinking about Chinese takeout. I'm really hungry.

One of the things I love so much about Yellowjackets and its use of sex scenes—and one of the reasons I balk at puritan culture claiming sex scenes have no place in media—is how much character gets across in these moments. The scenes are rarely, if ever, just about the sex.
It’s Van and Tai in the woods, this moment of pure intimacy, of letting someone see you when you’re at your most broken and realizing you can still be beautiful and present and whole. It’s recognizing love transcends what you look like, and that there is safety in trusting someone to really look under the mask.
It’s Jackie trying to prove something to herself and to Shauna, that she can be an adult, that she can catch up to this perceived finish line Shauna already crossed, and it’s Travis being so distant that he barely even knows where he is, that this physical act that feels like everything to Jackie is nothing to him. It’s a microcosm of that young adult fear of being left behind, of not fitting into the right tropes.
It’s Shauna and Adam in this primal, teenage courtship that is so about immaturity and spontaneity, where it’s entirely about her getting to reclaim the childhood she lost, even at her own detriment. And it’s Jeff and Shauna, where it’s entirely about trying to reclaim something damaged beyond repair, about the desperate need to hang onto something that maybe wasn’t ever yours to begin with.
It’s Natalie and Travis with this Lottie imagery hovering between them, an encapsulation of Nat trying to show him that reality is tangible, and Lottie being a symbol of hope and spirituality, with Travis being caught between. It’s building on this traumatic space they’re living in through the lens of distraction and escapism, and whether those things can be enough when real life is so deadly.
This show is so good about deploying these very human moments through physicality, and pushing the character arcs forward. Sex can genuinely be such a beautiful and painful way to explore character, and it’s such a fundamental feature of this story which is rooted in hunger and desire and collaboration. It’s so interesting to me.
