After reading the Risk and the Dare, I would LOVE a romance book about Coach Jensen and his new girlfriend.
I already know E. Kennedy had thoughts about them (for those who remember this part of the Legacy)

[Book Two of Four]
Story: 5 out of 5 Smut: 2.5 out 5
So, I was nervous I wasn’t going to like this book because of Brenna’s personality, but damn if I didn’t end up loving this book!
The risk of dating the enemy really paid off for her, haha.
As usual, you have the fun banter and equally fun interactions between these college students, but I was surprised most with Brenna’s interaction with her dad. That conversation between them towards the end had me in tears. Oh my god.
This book starts off going up and up and up, and then that downfall at the end keeps you in a chokehold to see how it will play out. Definitely worth the read.
* Dear lord. The tension between these two is amazing 🥵
* Dude, McCarthy is head over heels in love with Brenna and all she wants is a casual hook-up. How is he gonna handle it when his captain ends up dicking her down?
* So that was her hook-up with Mike!? A sloppy makeout session and a handjob she didn’t even finish because she fell asleep 😂
* Ew. That internship interview was tanked the moment that sexist asshole opened his mouth. Poor Brenna.
* Tansy is the worse cousin ever. I’d have ditched her too.
* His hand was RIGHT THERE! And they let their phones distract them? I’m so disappointed lol.
* Lol she told that sleazebag interviewer that Jake was her boyfriend 🤦🏻‍♀️ And now he wants one real date for every fake date he has to go on. Yes!
* Goddamn. As if her junkie ex asking for cash wasn’t frustrating enough, her basement apartment flooded. Girl can’t catch a break.
* That was a dinner from hell. I would have made Jake grovel. Fuck that.
* Awww. She had fun on their date 🥹 but that phone call ruined the mood. It was totally her junkie ex, wasn’t it?
* I like that Jake’s best friend is looking out for him, but I feel like she’s jealous. Like she expects them to get together after graduation and him suddenly liking a girl enough to date is throwing her off.
* Oh fuck. Hockey Net is gonna air the Briar/Harvard game? Why do I get the sick feeling Mulder is gonna be on it and out Jake and Brenna’s “relationship”.. 😬
* Oh no… the enemy coach caught them 😅 Fucckkkk.
* Goddamn. They had to go rescue her junkie ex and he had the audacity to ask for fifty bucks..!? What a moron.
* Oh fuck. That fight on the ice was brutal. And totally not the characters I expected it from.
* The fucking Harvard coach outed them?!
* I fucking hate Brenna’s dad right now. Fuck this guy.
* And now I fucking hate Hazel, the best friend, for getting in Jake’s head. wtf, dude!
* Goddamn. And now I’m crying 😭
* I swear to god, Hazel better give Jake that bracelet. I’m gonna be pissed if she hides it from him.
* Wowwwww. She didn’t give him the bracelet. What a bitch.
* Now she did. Still a bitch love because she was in love with her best friend. Thankfully Jake doesn’t return her feelings.
* Awww. They’re together. And I’m glad she got that last minute jab at Harvard’s coach. Dick deserved it.

October Reads 📚
*The Risk (Briar U #2) by Elle Kennedy - 4/5
*The Play (Briar U #3) by Elle Kennedy - 4/5
*The Dare (Briar U #4) by Elle Kennedy - 3.5/5
*The Legacy (Off-Campus #5) by Elle Kennedy - 4.5/5
Emily Wilde's Encylopedia of Fearies by Heather Fawcett - 3/5
*marked for rereads
I dived back into elle kennedy's college hockey world and damn did I miss these dumbasses haha. I'm not always a second-generation fan but I'm cautiously optimistic going into The Graham Effect especially when the main character has my name HAHA. Emily Wilde's was an interesting book but I found it a little too slow for me. I'm excited to read The Graham Effect next but I'm currently diving into King of Greed!

order my crescent city series copy today, even tho i haven’t finished acotar series lmao but i’m sure that i’ll want to read crescent city after i finish.
unfortunately it’s that the bookstore here only can order book 1 in paperback and book 2 in hardcover 🫠🫠 but the hardcover is actually a lot cheaper, it’s only a few dollars more than paperback (which they don’t have idk why) i was going to see if i can get new cover editions but i think that’s uk only thing? idk

August 2024 TBR--
Tumblr media
The month of August has some HIGH expectations with three of my most anticipated new releases making their way into my home during the month. I'm also keeping my streak of at least one hockey romance read per month. I'm excited to do a couple of rereads as well. Let's get to the books.
The Luminaries by Susan Dennard (reread)-- This is going to be my third read of this novel and it's all in preparation for the final book which comes out later this month. Hemlock Falls has a forest that fills with monsters every night when the sun sets and the mists rise. Which is why the town is full of hunters. But Winnie and her family are outsiders due to her father being outed as a witch and a traitor ten years ago. Until she creates a plan to be welcomed back with open arms.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (reread)-- This is my other reread for the month. I'm planning on reading all of the books in the series this year. We follow Katniss and Peeta as they complete the district tour following their win of the games. But then they're forced to go back into the arena when the Quarter Quell is announced.
The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren-- Starving artist Anna and Stanford professor Liam pair up so Liam can complete a clause in his grandfather's will and finally get his share of the inheritance. Liam worries that Anna won't survive his cut throat toxic family in this world of wealth.
The Play by Elle Kennedy (Kindle)-- My hockey romance of the month. I've read quite a few Elle Kennedy hockey romance novels so when I was looking for one to read in the month of August, her name came to mind. This is book 3 in the Briar U series. In this one we follow Hunter who is the new team captain and who has a new rule for himself: school and hockey now, girls later. After a horrible season the previous year, he's determined to get the team back on track. But when Hunter's friend Demi's relationship ends and she's looking for a rebound just three months into the school year? Hunter's going to find it hard to resist her. I'm hoping for angst here because that's what I've discovered is my jam in romances.
The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (New Release)-- This is a spin off series from the Inheritance Games so I'm excited to see where this goes. The Grandest Game is an annual competition run by billionaire Avery Grambs and the four Hawthorne brothers. It is designed to give anyone a shot at fame and fortune. This year there are seven golden tickets. Some players are in it for the money, some are in it for power, and every single one of them have secrets.
Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson (New Release)-- This is a new stand alone from one of my favorite authors. I've tried to avoid knowing too much about this one so I'll just include a small section from the GoodReads synopsis: "With her house-sitting career up in flames, it seems the universe owes Marlow a new summer job, and that's how she ends up at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s and abandoned shortly thereafter. It's easy enough giving tours. Low risk of fire. High chance of getting bored talking about stained glass and nut cutlets and Prohibition. Oh, and the deaths. Did anyone mention the deaths?"
Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer (New Release)-- I have such high hopes for this one following the ending of book one. (It gave me "Don't Blame Me" by Taylor Swift vibes.) In book one, we follow Evie Sage who is the assistant to The Villain in a campy Fantasy novel. The first book leaves it on such a huge cliffhanger and I just want to know what happens next. The synopsis on GoodReads doesn't help at all. The first book was so fun and I know book two will be as well.
August has got a lot to live up to with these new releases and the rereads. I'm so excited.

My work chat is talking about hockey teams and I only realized they were talking about hockey because they brought up the Edmonton Oilers and Jake Connelly in Elle Kennedy's The Risk plays for that team 💀💀💀

Can I ask what hockey books u read 👀👀 I've also read some pretty terrible ones myself and I'm losing hope 😭 sticking to hannah Grace for now cause I actually enjoyed icebreaker and wildfire 🤠
they are trashy but i do adore the elle kennedy books! i recommend the off campus series and the briar u series, but stay away from 'the legacy' and the new second generation series because they are quite shit and just ruin the world tbh😭my personal favourites were 'the deal', 'the score' and 'the risk'!!
as for books to avoid? a lot of people recommended avery keelan, becka mack and hannah cowan. maybe it's partially my fault for reading them all so close together but they were shit😭like the characters and plots and the whole vibe in general was off for all three of them. not personal fans of their works
i did read "behind the net" by stephanie archer and "rule number five" by j wilder and, i won't lie, i don't remember much from the reads but i remember liking them a little better. they didn't necessarily scratch the itch i wanted for a hockey romance but they were more tolerable than the previous three authors i mentioned
but i fucking ADORE the maple hill series and i cannot wait for henry's book!! although to be fair, they don't really focus on the hockey aspect as much as other books do which i honestly don't mind. they are still great books (wildfire is my fav) but i wouldn't go into them expecting a shit load of hockey!! even icebreaker was more ice skating based than hockey

elle kennedy is my parasocial enemy, but “the risk” was a fun read for my commutes
I can’t remember if the hockey was objectionable though 😔
ohhhh anon please tell me more about the parasocial enemies part. i'm so nosy. i love a good grudge.
i don't know anything about elle kennedy except for how i hated HIM and her royal majesty lexi brown hated the het romance of EK's that she read (me 🤝 lexi 🥰) so i'm probably just going to pass on her stuff from now on. i looked up "the risk" and the premise sounds great, however, in addition to my more legitimate grievances with HIM, i just cannot do first person present tense romance novels. not a critique, just a personal preference! that's one of those things that a lot of romance readers seem to love and i'm just like, well, that is not for me 😂
