Truth or Dare
@cotrk-events
Everyone knew that Gabriel and Fidelio were crazy about each other but those two idiots still hadn’t made a move yet. Why, Olivia couldn’t understand. So she’d devised a plan—get them to admit their feelings for one another via a game of Truth or Dare.
Olivia loved Truth or Dare. There was something rather thrilling about being made to confess your deepest truths or do embarrassing things. It was even more thrilling to make other people do those things.
But anyway. Olivia was hosting a party at her house, and all her friends were invited, Gabriel and Fidelio included. This was where she would strike. Emma wasn’t sure about her plan, for what if something didn’t go as planned, or what if they got mad at her? You don’t have to worry, Olivia reassured her. Everything will do exactly as planned. And besides, everyone knows that Gabe and Fido like each other. They just need some encouragement to finally get together.

The party started; all her guests arrived. They spent the first hour or so in the dining room catching up, listening to music and munching on the delicious snacks her mother had obligingly prepared for them. Then Olivia led them all to the living room, where they sat in a circle facing each other.
“For our first game, we’re going to play Truth or Dare,” Olivia announced gleefully, and ignored the groans from several of her friends who hated the game.
“I’ll start. Charlie, I dare you to use your endowment for fun. Pick a random photo and tell us what it’s saying.”
Charlie groaned. “Really, Liv? We’re not supposed to use our gifts for frivolous reasons.”
Olivia shrugged. Charlie had grown so serious over the past few years. Sure, they shouldn’t misuse their endowments, but there was a difference between using them to have a bit of fun and abusing them. What was the harm if they did it for a bit of fun as long as no one got hurt?
“No one else is here except us,” Olivia pointed out. “Besides, you’ve got to do it. It’s part of the game.”
Charlie sighed. “Fine. Give me that magazine over there.”
Olivia handed him her mother’s Celebrity Weekly magazine that was sitting on the coffee table next to her. Charlie flicked to a random page that had a photo of two female celebrities sitting on the edge of a pool dressed in bikinis, smiling brightly at an unknown camera man. He stared at the image for a few moments, until Olivia grew impatient with curiosity and blurted out, “Well, what are they saying?”
To her surprise, Charlie blushed a little. “Well… the two women—they’re models-- are gossiping a bit. One of them is talking about how someone called Tiffany is having an affair with her manager who’s married. The other woman is laughing and the camera man is coughing and asking them to focus so they can finish the shoot. He doesn’t sound very happy. One of the women says, Come join us, we’ll give you some fun. Then—and I don’t know why—the scene starts shaking and going all blurry. I think the cameraman says, This is the last time I do a job for a pair of rich bitches. And that’s all.”
“Wicked!” Olivia exclaimed.
“Yeah,” Tancred agreed, his hair crackling with excitement. “Awesome!”
“I think it’s horrible,” Emma said. “Those two models treated the poor cameraman terribly!”
“I think it’s a frivolous waste,” Lysander said severely. “You shouldn’t have asked Charlie to do it, Olivia.”
Olivia stuck her tongue out at him. “You’re being way too serious, Lysander Sage. It’s just a bit of harmless fun.”
Lysander frowned at her. “Still, we shouldn’t use our gifts like this.”
Olivia shrugged. “Anyway, Charlie’s done the dare, so now it’s his turn.”
The following half an hour was great fun. Olivia laughed and gasped along with the rest of her friends as each of them either told a truth or did a dare. Emma picked Truth and admitted that there was one time where she got stuck as a bird and spent a day and a night like that until she remembered how to turn herself back. Tancred was dared to balance an apple on his head while reciting a silly poem, which he failed at spectacularly because he kept laughing and blowing the apple off. Naren also chose Dare and managed to scare the group using her gift to conjure shadowy monsters on the walls of the living room that were shining with the moon’s light.
And finally, it was Olivia’s turn again. She smiled brightly and said, “Gabriel, I dare you to ask Fidelio for a kiss. On the lips.”
Gabriel started in surprise and went an interesting shade of pink. He looked at Fidelio, who looked back at him with a friendly grin on his face. He hesitated.
“Come on, Gabe!” Tancred laughed. “We all know you. Stop being so scared! Nothing bad is going to happen if you try it just this once.”
“I… all right.” A determined look crossed Gabriel Silk’s face. He squared his shoulders, stood up and walked to where Fidelio was now standing waiting for him. “Fidelio… ah… would you mind if I kiss you? Just this once?”
Fidelio smiled at him. “I wouldn’t mind in the slightest.”
Shyly, Gabriel Silk leaned forward. Fidelio did too. Olivia watched with wonder as their lips met and their world narrowed to only each other, as if nothing else mattered.
After a few moments the two boys broke apart, grinning wildly at each other. Olivia and the rest of her friends cheered. They had all known about the boys’ feelings for one another, and to see them finally make the move was a joy to see.
An hour later, when the group had left the living room and scattered to do their own thing for a while, Olivia came across Gabriel and Fidelio sitting close together on the sofa, murmuring quietly to each other. Yes, she thought jubilantly, they were definitely sitting closer than any friends would.
Olivia smiled to herself. Her work was done.

one of the cons listening to books in audio is that sometimes your mind might skip through important, such as appearances, so I would use their name to visualise them. Now after reading by the book, it gives a whole different outlook. A LOT. I never knew Lysander wasn't blond?! (OK, that seemed stupid. I knew he was African - but hey, Lysander just gives chill vibes and blond just fit at that time. Now my mind got used it.)
Sometimes, I could be spot-on like for Emma and Amy since Amy and Emma's the type of name that gives blue eyes and blonde hair, same with Charlie.
Sometimes characters have minor changes like for Tancred. I thought he had black hair with a streak of blond or a gradient of blond, no, he's actually just blond.
BUT, on the occasion - I'll give Lyell and Mr. Pilgrim as an example for this one - even though they both are the same person, I would give them different appearances. Mr. Pilgrim just seemed kinda edgy (that was not the word I was going for, but 'kay) so dark brown hair and dark eyes...Lyell, on the other hand, I would straight up give him light caramel blond hair and grey eyes. I'm still adjusting/trying to make Lyell look like Mr. Pilgrim in my mind.
Now, the one that hit the most and is the most difficult to adapt to was Dagbert. I thought he was messy light sea blond type of guy, but it's brown hair with a tint of sea-green. After going to the wiki and tumblr multiple times, it just felt quite odd. Argh. My brain just cannot process him being brown-haired. (As much I want to fire my brain - I can't live without it.)
Ok, now some characters won't get affect since I can't get a grasp on how they look and I really can't find stuff in the wiki or in fanarts to describe her. Same with Cook actually - but in the wiki, it is said that she had dark, greying hair. But my mind here just can't get a grasp.
Guys, I think I like blondes. :D

Saw you reblog the character ask game, and I hope it's about cotrk for you because you're about to get a cotrk character:
Emma Tolly, 8+25 :)
8. Not sure the fandom is large enough for me to despise much about it, but sometimes I see fanart of characters (including Emma) and they just look like full-grown adults even though none of them are even in high school yet. Like why does the 10-year-old have fully developed breasts?
25. It's been a while since I read the books for the first time, but I remember immediately thinking "It can't be Emelia, it's too obvious" and I was sure she was a red herring. She was not. I think now that I'm older I have more of an appreciation for the tragic backstory? Idk
Didn't reblog specifically for cotrk, more just cuz I wanted it on hand for whatever, but thanks for asking about cotrk!

Charlie Bone has one of the best representations of what it’s like when you’re 12ish years old and your friends who are a year or two older than you suddenly have significant others because it’s either:
The Charlie, Fidelio, Olivia, etc. reaction: “I. Huh? I don’t get it. Why would you do that? Okay, I guess. Weird.”
Or the Emma reaction: *trying to shove down your disappointment over the crush you’ve been secretly harboring for [insert number here] years because they are older than you by a whole year and therefore waaaaaay out of your league*:

Best Paton Yewbeam Quote Bracket
Round 0.5a - Poll 11
Spoilers for Charlie Bone and the Red Knight below the cut!
Quote 147, Charlie Bone and the Red Knight, chapter 22
Paton: Is your aunt all right?
Emma: Yes, but…. She’s been sort of burgled.
Paton: What? How could you forget to tell me? I must go to her at once.
Emma: NO! Auntie doesn’t want… doesn’t need you right now. She wasn’t really burgled, she was just…
Paton: What? Burgled or not burgled?
Emma: Not. Just visited by ruffians. But she’s OK. Please, can we go on to Tigerfield Street?
Quote 129, Charlie Bone and the Shadow of Badlock, chapter 7
Grizelda: Research! Research! Poking your nose into other people’s affairs. Where d’you think that will get you?
Paton:  Personally, nowhere, dear sister. Though what I unearth may be of great benefit to others.

Friends, enemies, comrades, Jacobins, Monarchist, Bonapartists, gather round. We have an important announcement:
The continent is beset with war. A tenacious general from Corsica has ignited conflict from Madrid to Moscow and made ancient dynasties tremble. Depending on your particular political leanings, this is either the triumph of a great man out of the chaos of The Terror, a betrayal of the values of the French Revolution, or the rule of the greatest upstart tyrant since Caesar.
But, our grand tournament is here to ask the most important question: Now that the flower of European nobility is arrayed on the battlefield in the sexiest uniforms that European history has yet produced (or indeed, may ever produce), who is the most fuckable?
The bracket is here: full bracket and just quadrant I

in babea au what are kid!bea’s favourite franchises & books when she’s growing up? i bet mary (unlike her parents) lets bea be interested in whatever she wants, even if it’s stuff like superheroes or cartoons or video games. would really love to hear your thoughts on what she’d gravitate towards, given the freedom to be herself.
the urge to answer this with "jesus fandom" for the bit even though it's absolutely not something babea au!Bea gets into, given as a kid/teen she sits in that same sort of position as Mary does, adjacent to the Church but not Of the Church, a queer kid who is comfortable with who she's growing into and has accepted it but has still found a family and a home through the Church
Mary didn't have the biggest media consumption as a kid, so she uses the excuse of Bea to expose both of them to a whole slew of it.
when they watch Star Wars, Bea latches onto Luke really quickly, dreaming of more, of being allowed to live, and then being forced towards it by the deaths of her parents. she inhales as much of the canon as she can get her hands on after that, dives into the novels and the comics, cobbles together her own padawan robes. she gets the lego millenium falcon one year, mary having worked and wheedled the money for it by picking up odd jobs in addition to her ocs work and leaning heavily on vincent until he capitulated and found the remainder she needed to afford it "in the budget"
she's well into lego in general and so stoked about the architecture builds when she learns about them like a week into her time with the ocs but worried that might seem weird, but mary gets her the little London set as a kinda housewarming gift when they establish where she's gonna end up
she gets really into building intricate stuff in minecraft too, spends months working on an atlantis analogue. she's drawn to the games that involve that more rigorous planning, and gets a bit too into satisfactory in her mid teens and mary has to have a talk with her about scaling back on it a bit because her grades are suffering, which of course leads to bea dropping video games completely bc god forbid she halfass something (it's also around the time lilith joins the ocs; mary: I'm not sure that this is a better replacement)
she enjoys the Charlie Bone series and identifies with Emma Tolly, gets into PJO for a bit but it doesn't really make an impression. gets really invested in HDM and has to be talked out of trying to engage Vincent and Suzanne in conversations about it. she's a voracious reader who moves out of YA pretty quickly and plows through a lot of sci-fi and philosophy
the queer found family of it all of star trek draws her in as well, but she's less engaged by it, and has a habit of rewatching fight scenes in stuff over and over again that mary finds troubling until she's reminded that bea's probably trying to give herself an idea of the danger mary and shannon and the rest are putting themselves in every time they're in the field (then mary finds it even more troubling and reschedules bea's next therapist appointment to an earlier date)

I just realised that if Paton and Julia get married, Emma and Charlie share their aunt/uncle
And idk if it would be in character, but it would be very funny if Charlie referred to Julia as his aunt or Emma as his cousin or vice-versa, even if it it not true for so many reasons

How much did Amy know of Lyell’s activities before his disappearance?
She panicked when Charlie told her that someone was following them on their way back from Bloor’s after Charlie’s first week:
'Can you walk a bit faster, Mom?' asked Charlie. 'We're being followed.'
'Followed?' Mrs. Bone stopped and looked back. 'Who's following us?'
'Just a boy,” Charlie told her. 'He's on the other side of the road. It's silly because he knows where I live. He just seems to like stalking people.'
'Come on, Charlie!' Mrs. Bone grabbed Charlie's arm and pulled him down another narrow alley. “It'll take us longer this way but I can't stand to be followed.'
This had happened to his mother before, Charlie realized. It was soon after their wedding that his father had begun to look over his shoulder, Charlie's mother had told him. But who had been following them then?
When Charlie told her about Dr Tolly’s suitcase and Emma Tolly and that he felt like he had to help her, she told him how like his father he was, suggested that Lyell might’ve confided in Amy about his own attempts to fight back against the Bloors. She was also aware of how dangerous the Bloors and Yewbeams were, telling Charlie to be careful:
'I'm going to find this girl, Mom,' Charlie said earnestly. “It's funny but I suddenly feel it's something I've got to do.' To Charlie's dismay his mother's eyes began to look glittery and tearful. 'How like your father you are,' she said gently. “I'll keep your secret, Charlie. But take care. They're very strong, you know, the people you're up against.' Her quick look at the window told Charlie exactly whom she meant.
'It's like a fairy tale,' sighed Mrs. Bone. 'I hope it'll have a happy ending.'
'She doesn't belong to the Moons,' said Charlie. 'She hates them. She belongs to Miss Ingledew'
'But can they prove it?' Amy Bone shook her head. 'Who's going to believe stories about hypnotism and ... shining knights and ringing bells... and Dr. Tolly's message.'
'No one will have to know. Uncle Paton says the Bloors won't want other people to know what they've been up to, so they'll give up without a fight.'
'I don't believe that,' said Amy Bone. 'Someone will have to pay for what's happened. Be careful, Charlie.'
She believed that Lyell’s death had been set up by the Bloors and Yewbeams:
'That poor boy,' she said when Charlie had told her everything. 'What can we do? And Paton — his own sisters! But I suppose that shouldn't surprise me.'
'Why Mom?' asked Charlie.
'Because of your father. I know they had something to do with his accident. And Grandma Bone, removing all his photos. As if he didn't exist.'
So, given all of this, Amy must’ve known something of Lyell’s business to be aware of how dangerous it was to defy the Bloors. She surely didn’t know everything, since she didn’t know about Emma Tolly or Maybelle’s Will, but enough that she knew that Lyell was doing things that the Bloors and Yewbeams didn’t like.
