Battle of Jakku - Last Stand Thoughts
"In the years that followed the Battle of Jakku, veterans of the final confrontation, historians and commonfolk around the Western Reaches and beyond said many things about the bloody, prolonged struggle. Although some of the words were different, the sentiment was very much the same. The Battle of Jakku changed everything--not just for the once--forgettable planet, but for an entire galaxy. And the people who poured their hearts and souls into shaping it--for the better. Reflection of the Battle of Jakku's impact on the galaxy

Yeah, this is not a very good comic. While I do have some things to say, I'll save my overall thoughts about this comic for another post. But here are some of my thoughts about the last arc of the Jakku comic.
How did this comic ever make it past the Lucasfilm Story Group?
I do like the concept of Adelhard going completely off the deep end, but I really wish they didn't force his involvement at the Battle of Jakku.

The number of retcons and errors...I'm seriously convinced they used an AI to summarize the trilogy. But for real, I think the main issue is how quickly the comic is releasing, which editors can't catch onto the very obvious continuity errors. I wish Adam Christopher or Alexander Freed, the latter of whom was the writer of the Uprising game, had written this comic.
One of the funniest errors (The left image being from Issue 1 and the right image is the recap of Issue 1 in Issue 2).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fucking audacity the writer had for using Rax's speech on Jakku word for word from Empire's End. It's cool to see it in the comic, but it also feels hollow given what happened before and during this comic. Especially given how they made one of the biggest continuity errors of Sloane still working Rax after Liberation Day when that did not happen at all.

Eleodie got an incredibly disappointing and pretty bland design.
I have no idea why Rynn didn't just shoot Renya.
However, I do love the last scene with Luke and Adelhard. It's very in-character of post-RotJ to offer even the worst beings in the galaxy a chance of redemption and to help guide them. Of course, Adelhard is completely broken to even ponder his offer. He dies as yet another footnote in the bloody final chapter of the Galactic Civil War.
Tumblr media
It's actually crazy how much Dark Droids is better than this.
To conclude, the Aftermath Trilogy is the definitive story of the post-RotJ to Battle of Jakku storyline. The comic really made me appreciate one of my favorite SW novel storylines even more. A disappointing end and run to one of my most anticipated Star Wars comics.
"This is how a war reached its end. How an Empire fell. And perhaps for a short while--how hope won. Through sacrifice and struggle. By pushing beyond fear. And in spite of the odds, by doing it as one. As the Ravager crashed down into the dry, sun-caked dirt of Jakku--through the chaos, bloodshed and fear of a seeming forever war--the New Republic forged itself into something fresh, vibrant and strong. Something that could last beyond a conflict--and for generations to come. As the Ravager fell, so rose the New Republic." The fall of the Ravager

A New York judge on Tuesday canceled the certificates of the key businesses behind Trump's empire, ordering a quick timeline to dissolve the Trump Organization and other corporate entities.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron's blockbuster ruling found that the former president and his business leaders failed to correct course after being warned of a "propensity to engage in persistent fraud."
The 10 corporate entities named in the lawsuit are the DJT Revocable Trust, the Trump Organization Inc., the Trump Organization LLC, DJT Holdings LLC, DJT Holdings Managing Member LLC, Trump Endeavor 12 LLC, 401 North Wabash Venture LLC, Trump Old Post Office LLC, 40 Wall Street LLC, and Seven Springs LLC, all of whose certificates must be canceled under New York's general business law.
The same fate awaits any New York entity "controlled or beneficially owned by Donald J. Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, Allen Weisselberg, and Jeffrey McConney," under the terms of the order.
Legal experts call that extraordinarily rare punishment the "corporate death penalty."
the rest of us call this...

i'm dying over that reveal. truly. truly. because on paper, the concept that ruby's mother was just an ordinary person and what made her so special was this belief everyone had feeding into her own mythology, creating something larger than life, is actually pretty cool. and, yeah, from wild blue yonder we know the doctor absolutely handed the power of suggestion over to an unknown entity that made it something tangible.. so it works.
sort of
but like. that 15 year old girl decided to drop her baby off at a church in the middle of the night in the most ostentatious, medieval looking cloak and then proceed to point mencingly at the road sign on the off chance the security camera would pick her up and that would somehow give someone the idea to name her daughter after said road sign??
i'm just saying... if that's the way you handle giving your baby up for adoption then there is absolutely nothing ordinary about you

currently obsessed with the fact that oblivion only takes place six years after the events of morrowind.
meaning the impact of the fall of the tribunal is barely even understood, or even being felt in full. the great houses are no doubt opening up a private civil war - as is the dunmer way - for the top spots in the wake of the nerevarine, the temple in ruins with the loss of their god-kings, the empire at their doorstep, not to say the least about the spiritual impact on the dunmer people. how much time does it take to mourn the god-king mother of morrowind? of sotha sil?? how does one even navigate the idea of their gods dying while they, their worshippers, remain???
i just. the entire country has to be in freefall, and thats not including the damage dagoth ur has done to vvardenfell. that the repressive system built in the wake of ALMSIVI is doing to the entire nation. and then oblivion gates start tearing open, and the entire country which is at the lowest it's been in possibly it's entire existence has to deal with a full blown daedric invasion. the implications for the dunmer are just so staggering

Absolutely loved the dynamics we got this season. The cutest puppy love with Gotak and Juntae (the way they protected each other was so sweet), the toxic ex-childhood besties who haven't gotten over each other and made it everyone's problem (Baekjin wanted Baku's cookie so freaking bad), and Sieun and Suho being twin flames even when apart the entire time (both going into comas in the 7th episode of the season).

"Luke Skywalker isn’t like the old Jedi. He saves Vader with his attachments!”
Wrong!
Luke Skywalker, at the end of Return of the Jedi, after his confrontation with the Emperor drags Darth Vader through the destructing Death Star. He’s desperate, knuckles white under the heavy weight of his father’s body, a little boy dragging his dad to safety. He sets Vader down for a moment, to catch his breath or maybe to get a better grip. He goes to grab Vader again, but Vader, uncomfortable and in pain, asks Luke to take off the mask. He wants to see Luke through his eyes instead of the eyes Palpatine built for him. Luke refuses, says that removing the mask is a sure way for Vader to die. Luke doesn’t want Vader dead, he wants Vader alive. Not to hold him accountable for his many evil acts, but for the same reason why Luke Skywalker can’t kill Darth Vader; Vader is his father and Luke loves him.
And yet, after a moment, Luke removes Vader’s mask. He doesn’t want to, he hesitates, but he removes the mask with enough slowness to allow Vader to take it back. In that moment, Luke sets aside his desire for Vader in his life, sets aside his desire to see him live, and sets aside his entire mission, the reason he was even on the Death Star in the place. In his compassion for his father, Luke stays with Vader until he dies. It is this moment where we see him be the best damn Jedi he can be. I’d even argue that this moment is the greatest example of non-attached love we see. Because Luke lets Vader go! He lets his father die, and in some ways, by removing the mask, he too kills Vader, he stays with him until his last moment, gives him the kindness of granting his last wish and finally chooses Vader.
And Luke doesn’t have to do this. If Luke Skywalker’s love for his father was an attachment, he would ignore Vader and continue dragging him to the escape pod, put his desire for a father as his central focus and ignore Vader’s wants and discomfort. Maybe he would even save him. But he doesn’t. Instead, he watches as Vader dies.
He builds a Jedi burial for his father and watches it burn the remnants of Vader and Anakin Skywalker away. He mourns Vader, he mourns what they could’ve had as father and son, considers what ifs and maybe-if-I-did-this. Vader/ Anakin is released from his mortal body, from his ‘crude matter’ and Luke lets him go. He says one final goodbye to Anakin. Then, he joins Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, and the rest of the Rebels and celebrates their victory. He lives in the present and celebrates what he has instead of what he lost.
Luke Skywalker is THE Jedi. Everything about Luke Skywalker serves as the foundational cornerstone of the Jedi, everything about the Jedi as a culture and philosophy is reflected in his character. Luke’s desire for the New Jedi Order isn’t to throw away the values of the old Order, but to vitalise them, breathe life back into dying lungs, and rebuild a path that people set out on their way to destroy. (Yes, his Order is different from the Old, but that’s because it has to be. He doesn’t have the resources or the safety of the Old Order.) The philosophies of the Jedi are difficult and they aren’t for everyone, and like the perfect Jedi that Luke is, he struggles and stumbles and sometimes he even rejects it. But, no matter how far he falls, it is a way of life he chooses again and again and again. It is a way of life that welcomes him back each time

sometimes I think of all the on-the-surface warm, well-meaning but deeply ineffectual advice and attention john gives harrow through harrow the ninth (make some soup and get some sleep! get a hobby! don't be so hard on yourself! self care harrow! as long as I need take no actual responsibility in this relationship whatsoever I would have loved to be your dad!) set up against the stark truth that with his other hand he has been staging her attempted horrific murder again and again and again like a living nightmare on the logic that it will 'put her down or fix her'. and then I find that I wish there is a hell. a special hell where twitch streamers turned necromantic death emperors go
#the locked tomb#harrowhark nonagesimus#john gaius#harrow the ninth#this is why I don't buy john as misunderstood and initially well-meaning AT ALL#this is a pattern you see with him again and again and again -- right down to his interpersonal relationships#(and indeed it's in the more grounded interpersonal relationships you can most clearly see him as he is I think#the fantasy death empire of a thousand years doesn't register quite as viscerally because it's like. heightened; not quite real#but the emotional violence and manipulation that surrounds him? oh boy that is EXTREMELY real and scarily well-observed)#there's a premeditation to so much of what he does (contracts with planets that only end 'in the event of the emperor's death' anyone?#yeah john we get it you're hilarious and I wish you weren't)#the greatest trick john ever pulled was making anyone think he's just a lil guy. what does he know he's only god#when you first read the book the complete callousness of the other adults is so horrible that john seems like an oasis of care#(though you start to get this uneasy feeling when that care never seems to translate to like... relief or soothing or resolution)#and it makes it feel almost obscene when you find out what's actually going on#it's the mercy & augustine enabler hour but at least they're completely honest in their cruelty there#while john is -- well he sure is being john huh#this is just me being angry with him btw philosophically I don't think this is how the story will or should end#(with john slam dunked right into hell that is)#it's just... harrow is so vulnerable. and what he does to her is so insidious and fucked up#john is very deeply human. unfortunately the capacity to quite simply suck so much is deeply human too
