garak vaguely appalled by the quality of children's books on Earth. julian thinks it's hilarious. gets a whole collection of Dr Seuss so he can make disparaging commentary when he reads it out loud to the kids

Lately I've only been wishing to grab a comic about my favorite character and just have a genuinely good time reading it.
#I can't remember the last time I took a Deadpool comic and genuinely had a good time about it#I hate the direction they took with his character and it's so disrespectful that I don't even talk about I don't even think *any* Deadpool#fan genuinely talk about it because were so tired of his kids characterization we all just collectively decided to ignore whatever hell#marvel through at him#but rant aside#it's just–#I am not sure if comic books are fun anymore I don't even know who I am making content for half of the people on my notes haven't touched#comic book and aren't pretending to do so#people who read the comics tend to be so mean or bitter about it that even if you follow most will be angry about something#comic or fan related and I don't know if I can blame them but following that is draining#and as much as I was trying to be a good sport about it you make a post about comic book characters and#and the overwhelming response is 'I don't read the comics but'– following up by a take about them that doesn't even recognize any core#aspect of their personality that you can't even grasp you can't even recognize them#you can't recognize them on tue cannon you can't recognize them on the fannon#and no matter how engaging you try to make content about the fandom people just–*refuse* to read it. And then– they *refuse* to tag fannon#content as fannon#and *refuse* to leave either#Yes we are all having fun but how can a character tag be so so filled with people who have no idea of who they are#how can a character can be properly loved and take care of and have content that respect them if no one makes any attempt to *know them*#and it's disheartening because *comics* are supposed to be fun *fannon are supposed to be fun*#but for aome reason it's really *really* hard to have fun here anymore#I created this page to share my love for the characters I care about and see more content of people who care about them too#but I can't even *find* people who care about them any more and when I do they're all so angry and upset– And I *cant even blame them*#I just... I don't know why I am doing this anymore or for who I am doing this anymore#sorry to vent but it's been a while since I haven't been had a genuinely good time™ enjoying comics#I don't think even people who write those comics enjoy those comics or care about those characters#Sometimes feels like everyone is projecting on those characters rather than *writing about them*. And I can't find them anymore#fanfics used to be about love petters to characters who you love#nowadays seems like a competition to see who makes more funny words with tropes pre-written since 2007#vent

Ruby
Part 23- Final!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The spicynoodles is no longer implied everyone- this is not a drill!
Anyway, MK finds Jack to be EXTREMELY infuriating, having tried to talk him out of villainy before, only to get shot at, and constantly have his schedule interrupted for his efforts. He really didn’t think Hunter would have any luck trying to befriend him, so being informed that Hunter was both successful in befriending Jack (somewhat) and talking shit about him behind his back set him off
Red Son just finds MK’s indignant rage hilarious
Meanwhile, Hunter and Macaque fixed Jacks hair back up, gave him a little cut so it looks neat again, and Hunter took him out for boba.
Jack… doesn’t know what to do in regards to Hunters unconditioned kindness, so he just played nice all day
Anyway, that’s the end of Ruby! I’ll see everyone in Tigers Eye!

It’s kind of funny that the adults who love YA and comic books and Disney and other media for kids also, apparently, want desperately to be taken seriously by other grown ups. (You know, treated like an adult.) Like ‘yes, I only read Harry Potter fanfic and watch cartoons, but damnit Barbara don’t you patronize me! I demand to be treated with the same respect as any other adult baby!’ (I’d say ‘have a drink and calm down’ but my bottle warmer is on the blink.) Does the defensiveness come from a place of insecurity or do they genuinely believe that other adults are lying when they claim to enjoy adult things? Like do they think all adults would secretly prefer to watch CocoMelon instead of HBO and play with Lego rather than have sex, but gosh darn it most grups just won’t admit it?
i think they just never grew out of the child mentality that adults are boring and lame unlike them, this fifteen year old moron, the coolest person they know (because they know like 20 people). they see adulthood as going to bed at 9 PM and having to work and do taxes and chores and watching war documentaries and reading nonfiction. it just smacks of arrested development to me, but i also like don't take that kind of adult seriously and i definitely don't put any stock in their opinions on books, films, etc., and will tell them so lol.

I like how the death of literacy is because tumblr users watch kids cartoons and not that we live in a capitalist hellscape where you don't own what you have and curating your internet space to include anything of substance is increasingly inaccessible

"I honestly think both in terms of fic for the show itself and for RPF, it's about race"
Ah, I wasn't expecting this, which as a brown woman is incredibly naive of me.
There's currently discourse on X about Louis being the most "boring" character which is also, undoubtedly, driven by racism.
(x)
Oh, I'm really sorry, anon, and you shouldn't feel naive. I mean, for starters, I could be wrong, and I'm being pretty speculative, but even if I'm right, the onerous of that isn't, or at least shouldn't be, on you. I think there's a lot of really great progressive things that happen in fandom, but at the same time fandom is created by People Living in Societies, and unfortunately biases and discrimination, at least in my experience, can and do seep through in ways that are both toxic and just flat out negligent.
The idea of Louis being boring is absolutely an insane and racist rhetoric too. He is so wildly interesting as a character, with so many layers of storytelling and nuance and contradiction, which I adore in him, and it makes me wonder if the people who find him boring are the same ones who want to make him the audience insert (insane given Daniel is literally right there) or to project all this 'battered housewife' narrative onto him, which - - look.
I've tried to shrug this off, but I literally just spent the entire day at a symposium on how the Australian government child support system is weaponised by abusive men against women post-divorce, so I'm a bit of a raw nerve about this topic, but it's made me even more pissed off at the Louis-Housewife arguments than normal.
Not only is it diminishing and completely at odds with his character, but what a way to show you've never, ever engaged with real survivors of, or conversations with, patriarchal oppression.
#i am so sorry this is not what your ask is#but i've spent 75% of the day feeling lowkey ill being present for harrowing conversations of physical and financial violence#as well as dowry abuse and remittance abuse in south asian-australian and african-australian communities#and like one of the first posts i saw online when i logged on tonight was a recommended post about louis as a battered housewife and i just#WHAT are you TALKING ABOUT#touch grass#if you think this is what the show is exploring let that radicalise you enough to go and support actual women and the lgbt in your communit#and engage in nfps working in the space#because then you might realise that the 'battered housewife' trope in general is a hateful one that was created by men to further victimise#and you might realise that while lestat's abuse is real it's a fraction of louis' story and#no#mutual abuse is NOT real#but louis and lestat aren't either#and regardless of that trying to apply a gender paradigm to a romance between 2 men is both gender essentialist and really ugly#and as courtney replied to me the other day it's like - -#terf-y#frankly#'woman-coded and man-coded' is just#oof#again#very gender essentialist#and honestly i think it's been used to reduce louis' character in so many ways#so there's both racism and this weird gender stuff working against him which is wild#given louis is never depicted as anything but cis and gay#him wanting kids and liking books and art doesn't make him 'woman coded'#i just - -#yes sorry#this has derailed#it's been a long day

Prev post I do think though that all three books critique the dynamic of having someone in power over you in a religious sense because they're pointing out how for anyone given that level of power, their personal hangups and desires become inextricable from the position that they hold and that position is a position that easily lends itself to abuse. so to have the conclusion of that be "but when it's a hot girl it's fine" just doesn't really mesh with the rest of this setup and I think regardless of what harrow says at the end of ntn, it's actually way more complicated than just choosing another deity

i’m halfway through reading dostoevsky’s demons because the children i watch want me to recount it to them like a bedtime story after i did the same with crime and punishment & the brothers karamazov and they heard someone say this one is even darker and sadder. apparently now they can’t feel the same thrill and tragedy with their other books. sorry to the youth i’m ruining out here 🐟
