editor's note : day 1 of @mischievery event, “Edit a character that matches your favorite song OR a character that matches " Dr. Sunshine Is Dead " by Will Wood & the Tapeworms.” i have a lot of favorite songs, but the first ones to come to mind are IYDKMIGTHTKY by type o negative, most malice mizer songs and most my chemical romance songs. since i did not have the creativity for IYDKMIGTHTKY, i went with ma chérie by malice mizer. and yes, i know chérie does not have anything to do with cherries, but the temptation was strong and i had little ideas.

Maylancholy Day 5: "I can't feel my hands"

This fic contains: loss of autonomy, injury, implied possible gangrene.

Whumpee glided across the stage, sweating under the blinding spotlight. The string tied around their limbs kept them suspended in the air. Their costume sparkled brightly, blinding them even further. They couldn't see the audience, only hear them as they laughed and jeered and clapped at the story beats.

From the catwalk, whumper guided their strings. They had always been a master puppeteer. But wood and fabric was no longer enough for them, they needed to puppet flesh. Each tightly wound string scratched against exposed muscle, causing blood to bloom beneath the sequins. Whumpee whimpered quietly, trying not to interrupt the show.

They let the strings carry them, through leaps and dances and twists. Don't falter, don't fall, don't let them know how much pain you're in.

Even if Whumpee didn't know the show by heart, they could have felt the finale coming. Whumper dragged the strings with vigor, dragging whumpee from one side of the stage to the other, and whumpee was just barely keeping up.

The most intense and important moment of the show came. Whumpee tried to stay quiet, even as tears streamed down their cheeks. But they missed a que near the end, the string pulled without them, scratching against bone. It was a short scream, but it would be enough.

As the curtains closed and the strings grew slack, Whumpee fell to the floor with no strength to stand. They wept in both relief and agony. It was over.

"You were sloppy." Whumper glowered at them. "You're not allowed to scream."

"...Please...I can't feel my hands anymore." Whumpee begged quietly.

"A puppet doesn't need to 'feel' anything. With any luck, the rest of you will go numb too." Whumper walked closer, inspecting them. "Tomorrow I suppose we start with the feet."
