some examples of pink in the animal kingdom. while there are no mammals with pink fur, it's naturally found in some birds, insects and fish. otherwise, usually due to genetic pigment mutations like albinism or leucism, some animals appear pink due their extreme paleness – their blood is visible through their skin!

Apologies for poor photos, but my Alloniscus perconvexus spawned something orangey!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pics are a little misleading. It's not quite this orange in person. The eyes appear black to me, so likely not amelanistic. For comparison, this is the regular coloration, taken at the same time under the same light.

(@askappos) Prism@Nahi "Not everyone is a good faith actor," Prism said, looking down at Nahi. "And manipulating one's memories is a very easy slippery slope to go down, best left as a last resort if all else fails. I'm not saying your friend is inherently manipulative. But I do suggest making sure something that isn't supposed to be trifled with wasn't."

Nahi: ...
Heh, I see how it is.
I see how it all is now...
You people really want to accuse my friend, huh? Well then...

Nahi: I know just the perfect pokemon to look for to prove my friend's innocence. Toshi, Teiji and I keeps a database of all the pokemon we meet, and it just so happens that one pokemon Toshi met is perfect for the job.
YOU WILL ALL SEE HOW WRONG YOU ALL ARE!

No because the way I get so VISCERALLY angry when someone refers to an animal as albino when they’re actually leucistic, erythristic, or xanthochromatic is both deeply irrational and greatly unhealthy
ALBINISM
Total loss of melanin in the body, i.e. skin, hair/fur/feathers, and eyes (the eyes look pink/red because the lack of melanin in the eye exposes the blood vessels within it to light, which then reflects their red hue)
LEUCISM
Partial loss of melanin in the body; the pattern of melanin distribution is unique in each case, so some people or animals with this condition may have patches of typically-colored skin/hair/fur in addition to pigmented eyes, while others may only have the aforementioned ocular pigmentation
ERYTHRISM
Abnormal prevalence of reddish pigment in the skin/hair/fur/feathers of an animal; concentration of this pigment varies case by case, so humans/animals with the condition can present anywhere from only slightly pink to intensely red in color; to my knowledge, the condition does not affect the eyes
XANTHOCHROMISM
Abnormal prevalence of yellow pigment in the skin/hair/fur/feathers of an animal; similar to erythrism, color intensity can vary from light golden hues to deep yellows; again, to my knowledge, the condition does not affect the eyes
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

Porcellio scaber 'Erythristic' (left) vs 'Spanish Orange' (right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While both orange, the Erythristic morph is still capable of producing melanin, allowing for black eyes and brown head/antennae. While the traditional Spanish Orange is amelanistic, with an all orange body and red eyes.

These are both blue males under 6 months old. Left is a normal, wild type Indian blue showing cream colored chest/belly feathers.
The right is a Spalding blue, a hybrid between an Indian blue and a green peafowl. He's a low percent Spalding, which means he doesn't have a lot of green blood, so little he might be mistaken for a blue by many. He won't look significantly different than other blues as an adult, but he will have deeper color, a higher, tighter crest, and darker barring patterns.
He's also from a line of Spaldings that carry an erythristic trait, causing an increase in red pigments in their browns. In the wings it's hard to see as much, but in the chest, the cream turns red (poultry red, not parrot red).
Bug also has this trait, as do Opal and Corona. Actually Corona is the only purple I've ever had from Orion that showed it, and it's part of the reason I kept her.
Tumblr media
Eris, curiously, does not have it, even though she's Indie's daughter.
Tumblr media
My guess would be that Aurora carries it, since Aris has it, and Corona has it, and not Bug and this young blue male do too. Orion may have carried it, as well. Bug's full sister displays it, but not nearly as boldly as Bug does.

btw the pink panther is real ^_^
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a erythristic leopard aka a strawby leopard 🍓🍓🍓 or pink panther. this is a mutation where an unusually high amount of red appears in the coat (or an unusually low amount of black) and gives a more diluted red appearance to the leopards rosettes ^_^ some normal leopard colouration for comparison
