Chapter 8: Times Square
He waited for me to let go, so he knew I was okay. And after a moment I did.
"Sorry Aaron, I know this was supposed to be a date and now I'm all crying and talking about my ex."
"A date? Who said something about this being a date?" He said shocked and blushing.
"Uhmm you did when you messaged me." I also blushed.
"Ohh uhh.. it's okay Sophie. I'm happy you feel safe enough with me to talk about your past."
Aaron knew he wanted this to be a date, but he didn't want to push Sophie into things so he basicly ignored the fact that she knew he said it.
Sophie was okay with it, because she didn't want for things to go too fast.
"So Aaron, enough about me. Tell me about you."
"Well I'm on Broadway in a show called Moulin Rouge and I have a dog named Miles." He started.
"I know that already Tveit, tell me something else."
Aaron started laughing about how insisted Sophie was.
"I grew up in Middletown a small place an hour away from the city. I lived with my mom, dad and my brother John. I love them very much. And as it is for studying. I went to Ithaca, but didn't finish school because I got cast in the national tour of Rent. And from that moment on my life was in the theatre. I also did a few movies and television series."
The only thing I could do while listening to him was admiring how passionate he was. And how he looked even more handsome talking about his life.
Minutes passed by while talking to each other.
"Do you want to get another coffee? Or we could go somewhere else if you want to." Aaron suggested.
"Don't you have anything else to do today? You have a show tonight." I said.
"I have time, I have to be at the theatre 1,5 hour or so before the show."
"And you are not getting bored of me yet?" I asked.
"I will never get bored of you!" Aaron said, cheeks turning red.
"Well then maybe we can get another coffee and just take a walk through the city?"
"Perfect! Do you want the same thing as before?"
"I want an iced brown sugar shaken espresso if that's not too much to ask. I only drink the Macchiatto in the morning. Later in the day I like this one." I said nervous.
"No problem Sophie, I will get it for you."
Aaron walked away to order our to go coffee and I walked outside, waiting for him there.
I decided to text Melissa, because I hadn't spoken to her in a while.
Sophie:
Hey Lis, how are you? I miss you!
Melissa:
Soph! I miss you too. What are you doing right now? Have you seen Aaron already?
Sophie:
We actually got coffee this morning and now we are going to walk around town. Just hang out for a bit. I like it when I'm around him Lis!
Melissa:
Omg!! That's great! Enjoy the rest of your day and fill me in later. I want to hear everything!
I smiled at Melissa's message. And just at that moment Aaron walked outside with our coffee's.
"What are you all smiling about?" He asked with a smirk.
"Oh nothing, just realising it's a good day today." I said.
"I agree, this is one of the best mornings I've had in a long time." He said.
He handed me my coffee and we just walked through the city. The weather was just beautiful. It was warm, but not too hot.
We walked to Times Square. There was a big billboard with him and Ashley Loren. I loved Times Square and the billboard. Aaron noticed.
"Shall I take a picture of you? Here on Times Square with all the billboards. You can post it on your Instagram." He said.
I handed him my phone. He took it and it looked like he struggled with it.
"Is everything ok? Can you handle my phone?" I asked laughing. He blushed and then asked me to take a pose.
He took my pictures. Not just one but a few.
"So now you have a lot to choose from." He said.
I wanted to take my phone out of his hands, but he wouldn't give it back to me.
"Can I get my phone back mr. Tveit?" I asked teasing.
"You can have it back, but first you have to take a picture with me." He teased back.
I did as he said. I stood next to him. He wrapped an arm around my waist and we took a few pictures together.
When we both wanted to let go, we almost kissed. We were so close together during that picture.
We were both looking a bit awkward after it.
"Uhm just make sure you send me those ok?" He aksed breaking the awkward moment.
"I will, but I don't know if Instagram is the right place to send them."
"You don't have to send them on Instagram. You can send them another way, just look through your phone when you're home." He said all mysterious.
I looked at him for answers, but he didn't give them to me.
"Do you want to walk past the theatre?" He asked.
"Yeah sure, that sounds nice!"
As we were already on Times Square, the theatre was not that far away. When we arrived Aaron stood under the pillar with his picture on it.
"Sophie, can you take a picture of me and my twin brother?" He asked jokingly.
I laughed and took my phone out. I snapped a few pictures of him being silly with the pillar.
"I will also send those to you." I said.
He laughed and looked at me.
"Hey Sophie, will you do me a pleasure and see the show tonight?"
"Well Aaron, I would love to, but since you're in the show a ticket would cost me a fortune and I don't have that kind of money right now." I said a little embarresed.
"No no no, you don't have to pay for it! You'll get the ticket from me silly."
"Aaron I'm not a charity case. You already paid for my coffee twice and now this."
"Soph I'll get you in the audience tonight, please say yes. I really want you there!"
He called me by my nickname how could I refuse now?
"Ok Aaron, I will be there. Just tell me when and where I have to be."
"Can you meet me here at 5?" He asked.
"5? But the show starts at 7 and you don't have to be here at least 1,5 hour before the show."
"I know, but I have a surprise for you. Please meet me at 5 here in front of stagedoor?"
"Ok I'll be here at 5"

Welcome to OC Hour
I'm feeling a bit gristle-brained today, but i want to post more of A Measure of Absence.
My OC's for that story are, in no particular order,
Tariki Achebe, Ms. Burrows, Ex-Tasca 86, and Adara-59. Here are their starbucks orders.
Mr. Achebe would order an iced venti caramel macchiatto, almond milk and light ice. He sips it all day while talking at length with someone in the lobby. He literally just met them and is their friend now. He tips exactly $1.
Ms. Burrows orders a quad and a breakfast sandwich. "Which one?" "A breakfast sandwich." Getting her to clarify goes nowhere. She slams the espresso the second it's in her hand, takes the sandwich and leaves. She doesn't tip, and if asked is really confused as to what that means.
Ex-Tasca 86 stands outside of the line for at least 15 minutes, staring unmoving at the menu, joins the line, and orders a plain latte, hot. She tips 20% exactly, and clarifies it should be 16 ounces but only after the barista assumes that anyways. She takes a seat near a corner, and drinks while people watching with unnerving intensity.
Adara-59 arrives immediately in line, orders a tall vanilla creme frappucino, and tips 100%. She stirs the whip cream into the frapp with the straw. She sits next to Ex-Tasca, puts in earbuds, and starts reading. The book has a hand-made dustcover of thick floral-embossed paper.

talk your ear off
After several years of training, he could proudly state that he had formed special relationships with each coach that he had spent valuable time under their tutelage. While some relationships had started off comically awkward, there were many coaches that he had vibed with from their first one-on-one interaction. He was still the very same troublemaker that had joined the company years ago, testing how far he could push boundaries, but with wholesome intentions ( of course ) and always outside of the valuable lessons and workshops led by the coaches.
He had learned that there was a time and place to fool around early on. All thanks to Instructor Yoo. He had been one of coaches, whom had been straightforward and warned him that his antics wouldn't always work regardless of endearingly cheeky he came across to others. Noeul was still adamant that fun could be had any second of the day. He had only become better at reading the room because of Instructor Yoo. He had been ecstatic to find out that the man would be the coach to check up on him for the current project he was participating in. Without him, he didn't think he would have reached this point in the company.
Maybe, he had come with a bribe —an iced caramel macchiatto with an absurd amount of espresso shots— and sporting one of his toothy grins when he stepped through the door.
"Did you miss me that much, Instructor Yoo?" He questions with a slight tilt of his head, teasing tone in his voice. He sets down the man's drink on the table, properly greeting him with a bow of his head. "I heard you specifically chose me."
An obvious lie, but the bold assumption makes the corner of the man's lips twitch upwards and laugh out-loud, which was a rare sight to whoever knew the stony-face man.
"Tell me about the project, Noeul."
"Well, I didn't know how I would feel constantly being surrounded by twenty men. I think I'm just happy that the company didn't force us to bunk together like the military." He sinks further into his chair, half-chuckling when he exhales through his mouth. "That would have been traumatizing." He taps his fingers against the arm of the couch, pressing his lips into a firm line. "In all seriousness, I really enjoyed that all of us with different skillsets came together and produced something to be proud of. I don't know if we achieved what the company wanted in terms of success, but we all worked hard until aches were unnoticeable, and we bonded over our struggles, our disagreements..."
"It affirmed for me that I want to be in a group. There is nothing more exhilarating than hearing footwork syncing on wood floors, or all of us out of breath when the instrumentals stop playing." He rests his chin in his palm, snorting at his own words. "Okay, that is a bit cheesy, right? I did end up bidding adieu to my sneakers. That was a loss I wasn't prepared for this month and I had to purchase a new pair, break them in. I'm not even sentimental or perceive them to be lucky, but it did throw me off. As a dancer, does that happen to you?" He pauses, clearly waiting for the man's response, only to not receive one. "Anyway—"
He bites on the inside of his cheek to suppress the pout from forming on his lips. He reaches for his drink to play with the straw, taking a quick sip. "I appreciated how the schedule was set up. I realized it's the type of schedule that works for me, one that I won't lose my sanity since you know that I'm not the most patient person. It's not too repetitive and there is always something new to look forward to. I had a lot of fun learning the unit songs and I can't wait to perform them at the concert. I'm crossing my fingers that I can do a concept like 'Do It Like This' in the future so—" A pause to wink at the man. "...if you can pass that along for me that would be great. Although, my arms were hurting the first day. I need to work out more, but that was a cruel reality."
"They felt like jelly!" He lifts his hands, pretending to be like one of those balloon men at car washes that he saw when he went to the U.S. with the other trainees. "Ah, before I forget, I think that the variety aspect was my favorite. It was a fun way for all of us to learn about each other, our personalities... I've spent time with most of the trainees, but it's rare when we get to interact with the actors and the models. I learned a lot from simply observing them. Some of them are in a league of their own, right? I was impressed by their expression, or how great they are at finding the camera. I realized that I have a lot to improve on. The wall just keeps growing and growing, Instructor Yoo."
"Noeul, you shouldn't forget to breathe." The reminder is finished off with a reassuring smile, notifying him to continue speaking if he wanted to.
"Right, right." The young man mumbles, averting his gaze to stare out the window. Had he switched the drinks? Why was his heart beating so hard? "Were you the evil person behind the choreography for 'Do It Like This'?"
A loud and boisterous laugh finally escapes the coach, filling the room and almost catches Noeul off guard, who joins him with subtle dimpling of his skin above his cheeks.

Little Midnight Coffee Shop
On nights like this when I don't want to go to sleep, sometimes I wish I was running a little midnight coffee bar so I'd have something to do to distract me from the things I don't wanna think about.
I'd make friends with the other people who wouldn't want to sleep. They would sit and read books and chat quietly and maybe I'd ask them how they were getting on, and they'd drift in and out. Regulars, new folks, the quiet ones who I'd know just what to get without a word, the ones who wouldn't stop talking my ears off.
Maybe we'd get ghosts coming in, they're just there for the coffee aroma and maybe sit and absorb the warmth from a mug of hot chocolate. I'd still use the good stuff though, even though they wouldn't be drinking it - it'd be rude to cheap out on them, after all. Aliens stopping by for a mocha on their way to explore a new galaxy, asking me to scatter moondust over the top. Pixies drinking espressos like they were giant mugs - the really sophisticated ones ordering a macchiatto and not regretting getting a face full of foam.
I guess even then, though, it'd all have to end, just with dawn instead of dusk, and I'd be left on my own again at the end of the day.
Waiting for companionship.

I love being a barista because yes I do have main character syndrome so I don't really start conversations with the customers. I know if they order a hot chocolate I'm supposed to say something like "not a coffee drinker? that's cool :-)" or if they order an iced coffee on a hot day I should be like "perfect day for this, right? :-)" or ask them about, like, their kids or something. ask them how they've been if they're a regular. I don't knowm small talk??? well that's not me, they say they want a frappuccino and I'm like "cool thx" and immediately turn around and start making it, usually before they even pay. its cause I lived in new york for a bit, now Ive got new york customs in my bloodstream, always fast always moving, I'm not built for the slow paced south. I'm always running too. I run around the coffee shop like a gibbon making no small talk at all and when I hand them their drink they say, "wow that was fast!". I also have adhd. ok but thats not all, cause I've also got main character syndrome (like I said before) so if THEY ask any questions to ME? uh oh, trap card. "is the macchiatto good?" "oh I don't know, its funny really - see I don't drink coffee lol. and yet I work here! crazy huh? so I tried a macchiato once the otherweek anyway, and I could only taste the espresso, but maybe that's just me? idk :-)" once someone told me their fish died and I told them I used to be a fish hobbyist. "wtf is wrong with u" u ask me. I dont know. but dont worry I have naturally high charisma irl so all of my customers love me SO much anyway.

This review for my previous restaurant job is soooo fucking funny to me because I literally had to tell the owner what a macchiatto is, he had no clue and acted like it was rocket science when I explained it to him. It's literally the same as a latte but with the espresso on top instead of under the milk. Steamed milk, and then espresso. So simple! And he threw his hands in the air and said "you just do it" like I was speaking gibberish. Clearly customers have been asking for this for years, at an Italian restaurant, because it's an Italian drink. There's every other basic espresso drink on the menu so god knows why latte macchiatto is such a fucking mystery to him.
The reason it's so funny is because he was always a giant snob about the espresso drinks, like he's the only one who knew how to make them. And I quit over him saying to me "I don't know why it's so fucking hard for you to make coffee here" as if I'm the idiot here

hi I ADORE Vanilla Latte (I’m a barista myself so I just shsjshhsshjk :)) and it got me thinking... what do you think each of the Pedro boys would order at a coffee shop?? obviously Din would be like “I don’t do that bc mask” but like... if he could. lol.
So glad you enjoyed it lovey! I'm a sucker for coffee shop AU’s, I think because I too also used to be a barista! (@ Starbucks though, it was pretty 👎) — and oooh, I like this request! I’ve actually done something similar before which you can find HERE, but let me see...
Headcanon Masterlist
What the Pedro boy’s would order at a coffee shop:
Din Djarin
I've said this once before but our loveable Mandalorian lives off caffeine pills. If he could have any drink though, he'd opt for a cappuccino. The froth excites him more than he might like to admit. He even takes some of it on his finger for Grogu to taste.
Maxwell Lord
Uhm, recognise that businessman in Vanilla Latte? Listen, I’m not saying anything other than a triple shot espresso, extra hot and extra wet with no sweetner or sugar.
Oberyn Martell
A mixed berry frozen iced tea! He's got a sweet tooth and we already know how much he loves munching on berries, canonically. I’m a sucker for frozen iced teas, they’re my personal preference (mango & passion fruit ftw)!
Frankie Morales
Vanilla Latte! Although when he's with the guys he's afraid they'll tease him for it, so he just opts for a regular latte. But when he's with you he can truly be himself...
Ezra
Chai Tea Latte. He loves the smell, and his favourite colour is green just like the powder the barista's use to make it with. Ezra is the kinda customer who leans over the bar and watches you make his drink intently, asking you questions about the process and what you're going to do next.
Marcus Pike
This angel has a serious sweet tooth and loves a strawberry and cream frappuccino with extra fruity syrup on top!
Javier Peña
He doesn't know what to ask for, he only drinks whatever Steve brings him back. He doesn't care too much because anything is better than that disgusting coffee that comes from the machine in his office.
Max Phillips
He's a businessman, but he wants you to know that he's no boring businessman... so it's a caramel macchiatto!
Dave York
Milk.
Jack Daniels
An Irish coffee, of course! Obviously Jack will just order a regular black coffee but when he goes to sit down with it, he looks around and sneakily takes out a flask of whiskey, adding it to his beverage for that extra kick.
Pero Tovar
A flat white. I can't tell you why exactly. I just know he drinks a flat white. With like, full fat cow's milk.
