so after the cancer storyline comes to a close (chas recovers from her surgery, aaron goes to his appointment and agrees to start regular check-ups like his mom etc) what the hell are they gonna do with him?

it's so weird that he is going through something that affects him so much but he doesn't even share scenes with any of the people closest to him except his parents. he's also barely present at dingle gatherings?

i would love to see him get more involved with the lives of his friends like victoria (the jacob drama), vinny (caught amidst the tom/belle drama), matty's wedding drama (matty is literally the brother of his best mate??), mackenzie... god, i would even take a decent apology to ethan so they could hang out as friends and take the mick out of suni and nicky.

at this point i don't even mind if they don't give him his own storyline (though i would love to see him reconnect with seb) i just need less sad aaron always absorbed in his grief and his thoughts, always shouldering the weight of the world alone.

So we know that Diane is back for Faith's death, and Aaron is back for Liv's death. Who's Tracy back for then, I wonder? Will Nate pop his clogs leave Tracy to deal with the guilt and grief while also being engaged to another person, paving the way for Vanessa to leave the village to support her? Or will it be Vanessa herself who leaves in a box? On the one hand, Vanessa dying leaves basically no ties to the village for Tracy to return to when Amy is back full time, but would it be too much to kill off Cain's mum and son in one go?

Emmerdale viewers reckon they have worked out that Ryan Hawley is set to return to the ITV soap. The actor starred as Robert Sugden from 2014 to 2019, becoming the fourth person to play the character. But he left when his soap alter ego was locked up for murdering Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie), the man who attacked his half-sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). Ryan was slapped with a 14-year jail term so viewers didn’t expect to see him back in the Dales any time soon. However, a couple of recent hints have many people thinking that he could be returning after all. Firstly, Ryan was mentioned in an episode that aired in December, years after he left. Victoria talked about him to his former husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) as they had a drink together in the Woolpack, telling Aaron that his ex was “doing OK”.

Randomly wondering why Emmerdale hasn't brought in any long lost Sugdens; real, adjacent (Merricks!) or retconned, in these last 10ish years or so, besides Robert. And I'm not even talking long-term, just at all!

Let's see.

When Robert arrived back, he was tacked-on to a family he was only related to by marriage-to-be, the Whites. They were wealthy, powerful and had a three generation dynamic he wasn't a part of, as Lachlan wasn't his child (we got to meet Donny later). Of course Rebecca completed the White line-up.

Making Robert a dad was super important to TPTB, but even then, Robert lost Seb to Liverpool long before Ryan Hawley gave his leaving notice.

In contrast we have the Dingles and the Dingle add-ons. Here is what I could think of right now; A secret daughter for Marlon in April, Kyle came back to live in the village, they brought in Aaron's sister Liv, then we had Faith re-cast, Mandy came back + Vinny, brand new secret sons - Ryan for Charity (and his son Oscar on top of that!) and Nate for Cain, and finally Caleb, his wife Ruby and their son Nicky.

Not to mention the people who have married and/or had kids with Dingles.

They brought in several Bartons, relatives by marriage to Moira, but blood relatives to her children; James, Ross, Pete and Finn + Emma, then a return from Holly, Matty and finally a brother for Moira; Mackenzie.

Tates: they started with Joe (and Graham who was very entangled with the whole family) followed by Kim, then Jamie, Andrea and Millie (and Millie's maternal granny), and also Caleb and his family who are both Dingle and Tate adjacent.

The Anderson family was extended with daughter Naomi, mother Claudette and father Victor, and we even got to meet the mum/ex-wife.

We got two new Sharmas in Amit and Suni, plus the return of Archie, a couple of extra King kids in Elliot and Carl + nephew Tom, Meena was Manpreet's sister, Chloe was Kerry's secret daughter and Amy's sister, and Paddy got a brand new dad in Bear. Vanessa and Tracy were made sisters and got a joint dad in Frank. Rhona's mother Mary came and stayed, and then there was Gus and a new biological baby with no cheating story!

Heck, we were even subjected to Wendy's creepy ex-husband, Russ, making the total Posner count four characters + they made one of them "father" to Harry!

Both Jack and Joe Sugden were away from the village plenty, as was Robert. They could have gotten up to all sorts. Andy had a whole other birth family, but they all disappeared. Robert has two half siblings in Sandie and Tommy (he is something of a mystery), and they are bound to have families of their own. And what about Sarah Sr, couldn't she have a relative or two out there in the world, who would be blood relatatives to Victoria and Harry? Kathy was very much a part of the Sugden family, she had at least one kid in Australia we've only ever heard of.

I don't know if the show doesn't 'dare' mess around with the Sugdens and feel they are a bit 'untouchable' or if they just plain and simple aren't at all interested in them? (Actually I can guess.) But I still think it's weird and the Dingles should never have taken over the whole village like this.

That turned into quite a long post, if anyone made it to the end of it, sorry! 🙈

I find funny people like are Carter can't be redeemed or JP wouldn't go near him again, yet he can be friends with a guy aka Ste who is a guy who beat up Amy, faked his own daughter Leukemia, was part of a radicalisation group, killed Ella etc. Then there is James who also done messed up shit, like drugging Harry, pimping out Harry, shooting Mercedes, yet JP can be friends/ on good terms with them both. Sienna done messed up shit like holding Tom captive etc but Nancy and Darren seem sort ok with her, Warren killed Brody and Sienna still kinda went there again. there is Freddie/Grace. so why is impossible JP to go near Carter again? people just seem think no chance for Carter or for JP and Carter

There also Robert and Aaron on Emmerdale who still rooted for them even though Robert treated Aaron awful and tried kill most his family, tied him to a radiator and pointed a gun to his head, killed his ex lover and sister in law and got guilted and manipulated Aaron into covering up so he could go and marry his rich wife. cheated on Aaron who he paranoid about minute he behind bars and on drugs and in their home and bed etc.

Then there Ste/Brendan, Brendan beat up Ste like...

Emmerdale 15.01.24 Part 2

Aaron is drunk and continuing to knock back the beers, he is asking Vic and Ethan what bars are nearby as things have changed around here since he left, he's starting to make a nuisance of himself.

Aaron is trying to convince Victoria and Jacob into going into town with him, he keeps speaking to Ethan who reminds him he's not speaking to him, they suggest Aaron eats something or goes home & sleep it off, he's making a fool of himself.

Aaron has new targets to mess with as Cain and Moria are in the Hide, Aaron mocks Moria for her brother being with her husband's ex asking how she feels about that! Aaron is being annoying to them all. They tell him to go home & Victoria says she's not serving him anymore so he might as well.

I didn’t want to post this publicly, my reason for not liking cheating Aaron is two ex’s cheated on me. The idea that there are a few men who don’t cheat is nice, I hope Emmerdale won’t change that too. If you read the new soulmate fic “inextricably yours” by softlyspoken.. I just read it over the weekend and was shocked to see the bias and hate towards Aaron because it was believed he was ‘cheating on someone’ with Rob. I think there is very much a double standard, that I myself have. I wouldn’t ever be mean in someone’s comments though. I think a lot of fans have a spike ready for Aaron. Adding to existing dislike, the new show version of him is not likable nor lovable and it leaves a bitter taste even in fic. Try not to take it personally 🥴

I think for me, the reason I see Aaron’s behavior as just as bad as cheating is because in my misspent youth, I was twice the other woman. One time I didn’t know, but one time I did, and when I look back on that time in my life I’m pretty disgusted with myself. I wasn’t cheating on anyone but I was enabling an innocent girl to be cheated on, and that’s pretty shitty of me. And yet, in the land of fiction, I find Aaron and Robert’s story to be high romance. It makes no sense basically. They both did shitty things. They both hurt people. Their love was a bright, beautiful, dumpster fire and I miss it greatly.

August 1st summary

We watched from 2015/12/01 p2 to 2015/12/14.

Nicola and Jimmy find Chas. Aaron, Cain and Moira talk to her about whether she might be sleepwalking and have PTSD, and gently persuade her to go to hospital for help. When news spreads, Diane is sympathetic but Doug thinks she might be faking it. Robert uses Emma's help to persuade Doug of the truth in return for Aaron agreeing to let the question of who shot Robert drop. Aaron gives Robert this tiny approving nod that makes me lose my mind every single time I watch it.

Chrissie is found not guilty for reckless arson, with the court planning to reconvene for the arson sentencing; the judge says he is planning a suspended sentence. Paddy and Rhona prep for an adoption meeting, with Aaron finding out that Paddy has used him to cover up a lie to Rhona.

Diane meets a man at the hospital who she realises is Chas's ex and Aaron's father, Gordon. He says he regrets giving up on his son so she tells him that they're both at the pub in Emmerdale, but he asks her not to tell anyone she has seen him.

my two cents on the latest spoilers for xmas/new year: last week mack said 2024 was gonna be his year so of course he dies tragically at the end of this one (thank you chloe's dad and chloe, you will now have a months long storyline of hiding that secret because that's a soap rule) and so mack's death will tear apart two of emmerdale's biggest families: the dingles (on account of charity) and the barton's (moira).

his death goes well with vanessa returning so charity can lean on her (yay vanity is back on) and with moira dumping her deepest darkest secret on whoever because of her grief.

then, cain will be busy juggling caleb's mess and kim's and sam and lydia, so unless aaron sticks his nose into any of that (which he wont because he can't be bothered with anything at the moment), he and cain will probably fight because of chas, who i suspect will find out about some terminal disease (if we can be so lucky, tho i like lucy too much and hope chas pulls through in the end and doesn't actually die) so aaron will be all 'she can die for all i care, my sister is dead because of her' etc etc which makes cain snap and they fight ugly.

meanwhile, chas figures it's too late to fix things with aaron and she worries what will become of him after she's gone, so she goes in search of the only person she trusts to take care of him: his ex-husband, robert sugden.

i truly believe that is the only way she can redeem herself in aaron's eyes rn.

Tell a story about your childhood I don't really remember much from my childhood but here's a spooky one when I was a teen: So, when I was 17, I moved to the lovely countryside of East Yorkshire (imagine Emmerdale) and me and my ex boyfriend used to live in this small cottage that was separate from his parents house (it was still next to their mansion of a house but anyway). I always kept hearing these weird noises when we went to bed, which he never noticed, and it was driving me crazy. Then one night, around 2 or 3am, our landline suddenly rang. I was too scared to answer it, so he picked up and he has only described it to me but someone on the other end spoke with a kind of robotic sound, saying, 'I can't get no sleep,' before ending the call. I've never been more scared in my life than that night and I remember how we ran to the main house, scared shitless. My ex's stepdad, bless him, had to search every inch of the cottage to ensure there was no one hiding in the attic or anywhere else. We never found out if someone pranked us or not, so it still haunts me to this day. I love spooky shit but I don't want to experience it myself lmao.

Emmerdale spring preview from TV Times, the first one is a bit sus. Is one (or more) of them hiding their actual results? My first thought was it could be Aaron, but then I thought maybe Caleb, so the Dingles will embrace him again later on...

So because I like things nice and organised, I started having "themes" for my fandoms when it came to fic titles. When I was writing for Emmerdale they were all one word titles, each a different letter of the alphabet. (I had a grand plan to do all 26 but then.... well.)

When it came to write for Lone Star I was trying to think of what to call my first fic and the only thing that stuck was the line from Robert Frost's poem. So, I thought, guess I'm doing poetry.

Which for this ex-English teacher is just an absolute joy. I'm not a poet per se, and I've not got books and books of them that I read for enjoyment, but I do love poetry. I love how compact it is with its language use, how there's so much in a short space, how they make use of line and sentence structure, of grammar and punctuation. For someone who was taught, aged 13, how to deconstruct a text? Poems are a gold mine. Why break it there? Why that rhyme scheme? Why that word?

So I have poems that I like and since I started on this theme I've been keeping more and more of the ones I come across because I read them and go "oh that is so TK" or "that's Carlos". I have ones that deal with grief, with love, with loss. With finding a place in the world.

Some I have because I like them and I need reminding of them.

So yeah. I do read poetry and I keep the ones I like and I keep the ones that I think might be useful because thematically they work. And then when I get a fic idea I'm straight to my files and screenshots and lists and I'm re-reading them all again to find the perfect poem and the perfect line for the title.

I'm eclectic with my poetry: I like what I like and I don't really care who wrote it. Like the poem, not the poet to mis-quote someone!
