it's kind of funny that we're back at the start, as it was known from the very beginning, as the story always was, the old lore: "the Divine Gate was built in response to the destruction and suffering of the Calamity as the Prime Deities realized was far too much and, as such, they needed to also remove themselves from Exandria to protect it from the ruin that the gods dwelling here brings"

Wind-up dolls aren't normally capable of speaking, but some have been installed with basic, small voiceboxes for the sake of convenience. It's not uncommon to hear one of them aggressively going "awawawawawawa" at something inconveniencing them, or functioning as their owners alarm clock by screaming them awake in the morning.
On top of that, it seems that they've formed some sort of a language between each other, formed from body gestures and mechanical clicks produced by their clockwork systems. Even the dolls without the aforementioned upgrades have been seen participating in conversations in this manner, whirring and clicking at each other while gesturing wildly

Steve, who moves away from Hawkins and buys a farm to settle into a quiet life post Upside Down. He gets a horse too, which he rides to the nearby town when he needs to buy or sell things. It's a nice, quiet life. It'll be perfect once Robin is able to move in with him.
Eddie, who didn't move to Hawkins, has been curious about Steve ever since he first saw him. He finally gets the chance to say hi when he has a near miss with a rattlesnake- Eddie has had a long fascination with snakes and knows what to do.
Steve is very thankful, insists on doing something to say thank you. Eddie suggests they get burgers and get to know each other.
They hit it off immediately, joking and bonding over small town life. Steve invites Eddie to come to his farm the next day and, soon enough, they're meeting up every other day. Sometimes they talk, sometimes Eddie helps Steve with the farm.
On nights, when they're feeling especially romantic, they'll stargaze. Neither one are paying that much attention to the stars.

[ cw: violence mention / death mention / ]
Will never stop thinking about how Leo, all alone in an endless void and being beaten again and again and again by the only other living thing around, still finds comfort in that space. The situation he was in was completely hopeless, and in any other circumstances he would not have escaped, at least not fast enough to save him from permanent (or even fatal) damage, be it physical or mental.
And yet, despite the bleakness of his situation, despite the agony and helplessness, all he needs is one glance at a crumbled photograph, one glance to remember his family, and that’s enough of a reason for him to smile.
Maybe that’s why his powers center around manipulating space - because no matter how much space is between them, no matter how dire his own situation may be, just the thought of his family, alive and okay, is enough to give Leo hope.

i'm clowning on all of us for crying over their stacked jackets when i know full well that's exactly the kind of shit i would zoom in on in a fic as a poignant everyday symbol of intimacy and intertwined lives et cetera et cetera. we're just sensitive souls. okay. we find beauty in the little things

semi-ironic doodle of orion inspired by a fight club screenshot, that's why he's got a cigarette.
(is there a term for doing kinda the opposite of a woobification and making a character come off as edgier than what they actually are? cuz i feel like thats what i do with him sometimes)

Fanfiction is so goated actually
No monetary incentive, just writing in one's free time. Some incentive for like kudos and comments, because who doesn't want to hear that someone else enjoyed what they wrote. Just writing a story that is good and/or enjoyable, no real-life pressure to keep it going because god forbid you and other people are depending on it financially.
Writing a story because you want to write a good story, so you can write what they want the way you want, at a pace that is realistic for you, with exactly the plot pacing you want there to be.
