Okay we all love doomed polar explorations here but who has ever been totally head over heels for Kon Tiki???
Like, they’re not doomed, and they’re not cold, but they are a bunch of scraggly dudes with minimal sailing experience floating on a literal balsa wood raft from Peru to the Polynesian Islands at the whims of the ocean currents because ANTHROPOLOGY

I think people, even leftists, have this idea that children cannot ever be exposed to the concept of sex because it ‘breaks’ them. Maybe not in those exact words. But the whole idea of corruption of innocence is essentially just “if child sees Bad Thing™️ then child is forever damaged” and like. I hate to break it to you but kids will discover sex and sexual pleasure no matter how sheltered they are.
Like. Kids discover masturbation on their own all the time. It just happens. Adults prey on children. It just happens. Making it illegal to even hint at the concept of sex to anyone under the age of 16/18/21/whatever does not protect those individuals from discovering sex and physical pleasure. Either through innocent self exploration or being abused.
It’s a complex topic. I get it. But pretending it doesn’t exist does not even remotely protect children. Like. Sorry not sorry. But it’s not like children are some pure substance that can be forever tainted by learning about penises and vaginas and sex and orgasms but once they hit the magic right age that will no longer happen.

Prompt: Lost in Translation
Pairing: YasMoon
***
“You deserve them, Moon.”
Moon knows she’s saying more than that.
You don’t deserve me. You never did.
Perhaps Yasmine’s right. Perhaps she was too demanding, all those lazy twilights spent amid cannabis smoke in her car’s backseat. Hoping to intertwine hearts along with bodies. Wishing someday, what they had was something Yasmine could be proud of. Wanting to be more than a dirty secret.
Moon’s only certain of one thing as she watches the girl she fell in love with stumble away, emanating a kind of terror and betrayal she’s never seen.
Whatever they were, Yasmine just shredded it.
***
Maybe we got lost in translation
Maybe I asked for too much
But maybe this thing was a masterpiece
‘Til you tore it all up
Running scared, I was there
I remember it all too well
@robbykeeneslawyer if you’re still out there somewhere, the YasMoon 10-minute All Too Well angstfic continues!!!

The bookbar
This place was such a vibe very cute and cosy. I have been in the worst reading slump ever but I think I have recovered currently reading The silent patient by Alex Michaelides.

ok so that butternut squash pasta was this week’s submission for the super-easy plant-based recipe book project & I’m only required to add one per week. but for some reason I’m feeling really into cooking at the moment and I want to ride that wave yknow?? the next easy recipe I want to tackle is shakshuka (for brunch this weekend?) followed by loubieh bi zeit (lebanese green bean stew) + pita bread from scratch, which I think will be next week’s recipe(s) for the project.

Memo oct 15, 2023
Did I at first dig into Pinterest to scout a photo, before I begin the whole writing down? Yes. Absolutely I did exactly so.
It’s the idea of “what will be the windows through which I’ll see the world next?”. Does it relate? Can you tell me that you’ve never given it a thought?
I love how the world takes to look different from all the different places I get to visit and see. From the windows of…
