This scene demonstrates why I love how Vault-Tec is written as an evil corporation. It's not the usual mustache-twirling, over-the-top villainy you see in other media. It's quiet, subtle, and very realistic, which only serves to make Vault-Tec that much more terrifying.
When Cooper finishes describing how Vault-Tec was responsible for the deaths of countless people, the executive here does two things: a) he makes their deaths about himself (ALL WHILE NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING THEM!), and b) he makes it about "Product Management."
It really emphasizes the theme that corporations like Vault-Tec and the suits who run them at Vault-Tec only care about the company and its products and NOT the people who use them (or are being used by them).

Sorry non-Fallout followers, I am still stuck in this hole.
When Lucy and Maximus first met and she was in awe of him while he was enthralled by the way she looked at him, I thought it would be sort of an unhealthy schoolyard crush thing where they're idealizing each other and they were going to have that shattered at some point. And I was fine with that, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop BUT-
Then him admitting the truth to Lucy that he's NOT that guy and she sees him vulnerable and she reacts to it in a completely emotionally mature way??? She accepts him and still wants to be with him and offer him her home???
Honestly I think I've been poisoned by cheap romance arcs that the fact that they were instantly into each other I just assumed there would then have to be some BS fight or betrayal, not two people who kinda had a different idea about each other and from there developed into a deeper understanding.
And there's just something about Lucy and her whole golden rule philosophy, here is this man who made her feel safe when nobody else did, who showed her kindness when nobody else did, and when she sees he's not a big strong knight but just a scared traumatized liar, all she wants is to make him feel safe.
I just aaaaaah I love it.

Can we talk about this woman? She is a sex positive weirdo on the spectrum that can cut someone's head off and still refuses to swear. She wants to be a polite neighbor but will shoot you full of poison if she has to. She will fuck this random Knight because she is locked in a room and bored, after giving a sex ed lesson to the same Knight.
She is delightfully surprising and it is wonderful.

I love that Maximus is a heroic character, but in a way that's flawed, relatable, and human. I think the scene that sold me was him rushing to save Knight Titus, and immediately stopping once it's clear he's going to scapegoat his ass. Like yes, actually, I think that's what most of us would have done. I sure af would have.
Also I like that on one hand he's grateful to the BoS for rescuing him, but he's not a fanatic. When he and Lucy found Vault 4, I assumed he was going to hate it no matter what for simply not being the BoS. But same as her, he's willing to learn from the world around him, and change his mind. By the end of season 1, he's gone from wanting to be a Knight to wanting Happily Ever After with his sweetie in a vault.
Anyway, I'm blocking anyone who says Maximus is boring. He's not boring, you're just racist.

I do have to say the best choice they made for The Ghoul is making this grimdark edgelord the actual original Vault Boy.

Maximus is such a failboy goober and it's hilarious.
He is just a kid fucking around with power armor, which he has no idea how to use. He at no point does anything impressive in the armor, but he does all the dumb bullshit you'd do if you got power armor. He has every advantage and fucks it up everytime.
Except he is somewhat competent outside the armor. He handles the guys who took his armor, and the fiends, pretty well. His armor is honestly more of a detriment than anything.
Yet he is sooooo fucking sad he has to give up his fun new toy and its great.
