Unit Introduction: m4jor*REVERSAL
A group of four friends who take on a persona while they preform. Their music is often dark, tells a story or both...
*real quick: I can't draw for shit, so this is all going to be text and a bit long. Sorry :(
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
About m4jor*REVERSAL:
The asterisk in their unit name represents a pentacle!
Each member is aligned with a tarot card (including the vocaloids) and as characters they tend to play off that card in interesting ways. Their card is also their stage name/alias and sometimes an alternate persona they put on for their music; that alternate persona is often called their "reversed", hence the unit name.
They all preform in costume and while wearing masks - originally as a safety/anonymity thing, now it helps them get into the headspace to preform.
Although they do street performances or take gigs for local venues, most of their work is online. Their MVs take a long time to make, because of all the recording and editing involved.
I don't have a clear genre/style for their music yet🤧in my head its very atmospheric/psychedelic? But I can't think of a clear example atm.
They're my oldest fan unit! I dusted 'em off a few weeks ago when I got back into pjsk and they're much more fleshed out now ^^

"Even if it's only this once...please, let me be seen!"
Solomon Lucius - The Magician
Birthday: Nov 2
Height: 5'7" / 170cm
Hobbies: Tarot, People-Watching
Specialty: Rhythm Games
Favorite Food: Rose Shortbread Cookies
Least Favorite Food: Omurice
Dislikes: Hide & Seek
Despite his best efforts, Sol struggles with having presence most of the time. When preforming under his stage name, though, drawing attention to himself is effortless. He got into (western) esoterica/mythos/witchcraft in middle school, although it's more a casual hobby than a sincere belief. Secretly likes to be called nicknames, because he sees it as a sign people care.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
"One day, I swear, we'll make a happy ending!"
Arthur Charon - The Hanged Man
Birthday: August 1
Height: 5'9" / 175cm
Hobbies: Parkour, Conlangs
Specialty: Brewing Tea
Favorite Food: Soba Noodles
Least Favorite Food: Citrus
Dislikes: Roller Coasters
Arthur likes to tell stories, but all of them seem to accidentally end in tragedy or horror. He and Solomon became friends in elementary school and are quite close, but since he has a one-track mind, Art often focuses more on his other friends without meaning to. His parents are a bit traditional, but they do encourage him in his hobbies & interests. He's arguably the best dancer of the group, likely because of how much he enjoys parkour.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
"It's important to stay connected to those around you, you know?"
Rowan Delphi - The Hermit
Birthday: March 20
Height: 6' / 183cm
Hobbies: Hockey, Crafts
Specialty: Identifying Plants
Favorite Food: Flan
Least Favorite Food: Coconut
Dislikes: Thunderstorms
Rowan's involved in a lot of school activities and has a very active social life, however, he's hopeless at doing things on the fly and has to keep a planner on him most of the time. He'd never say it aloud, but Rowan tends to find a lot of people overbearing. He hates being alone because that's when the gay thoughts Horrors catch up to him, but that's also when he makes some of his best work. He's a single child, and finds sibling dynamics really interesting.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
"Eh? ...What was that, again? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention..."
Merlin Polaris - The Moon
Birthday: February 4
Height: 5'8" / 173cm
Hobbies: Reading, Stargazing
Specialty: Cold-Reading People
Favorite Food: Dumplings
Least Favorite Food: Tiramisu
Dislikes: Being Put On The Spot
Merlin has had the most prior musical experience, as he was in band for a few years in middle school & junior high. He's very popular with the girls at his school, since if you don't know him very well his aloof, spaced-out nature can be mistaken for mystique. Merlin is incredibly sharp, but he prefers to act otherwise as it takes less energy and effort, and it frees him from others' expectations. No matter the weather, he always wears long sleeves.

Unit SEKAI: Maze
Unit Virtual Singers:
Miku - The World
In Maze Sekai, Miku is dressed like a princess. She carries herself with a noble mien that is replaced with bubbly enthusiasm when it comes to telling stories or solving riddles. She's surprisingly very grounded.
Luka - The High Priestess
Luka carries her self as a high-ranking advisor. She likes to playfully tease Miku with nonsensical riddles, and plays soft melodies to help her friends sleep. Luka seems to instinctively know where any possible book can be found in Sekai.

This was not what you expected.
You, a woman in your late twenties that spent most of her time in a room listening to voices and decoding foreign messages, didn’t know what you expected. But this: a scary boss, an italian old man, and a skinny college kid, was not it.
“Y/n L/n? I’m Aaron Hotchner, the unit chief, and this is Agent Rossi and Doctor Agent Reid.”
You nodded your head, thick hair covering your top eyelashes as you glanced at the men. Agent Rossi shook your hand, and Dr Reid simply stood and gawked at you. To be honest, it made you worried. You had been warned this was a close knit team, that they trusted each other more than anything and that you shouldn’t get attached to any of them as you’d only be assisting them for one case.
Maybe they just didn’t warm up to new people.
“I’ll do your formal introduction to the rest of the team now, if you’re settled down.” He asks cooly. You like the way his voice rasps, it’s assertive yet comforting.
“Yes, of course. I can’t wait.” You smiled reassuringly at the unit chief, not ignoring the raised eyebrow you received from the silent young man now behind you.
Aaron Hotchner, your new boss for the next week or so, lead you to a large room with a circular table sat in the middle. There were two other women, one blonde and one raven haired, and another bald man that glanced at you immediately after you entered. They smiled at you and trailed your steps to where you stood beside the unit chief in front of a large TV screen.
“Everyone, this is Agent Y/n L/n. She’ll be assisting us with the Becker case you’ve all been informed of. She’ll mainly be our translator and interpreter, but she’ll also be useful for cultural identifiers and anything that we wouldn’t notice otherwise.”
You nodded along, never being a fan of introductions since you moved to America as a small child.
“This is JJ, our liaison, Agent Emily Prentiss and Agent Derek Morgan.”
The ladies smiled at you, in fact all of them did. They were surprisingly open to the fact you would be joining them, the fact made your shoulders loosen and a breath to be let out discreetly.
Next, you were on a long plane flight to Maine with Agents you had known for little under two hours, conversing about victim profiles and motives. The table in front of the ladies and your boss was strewn with victim files and gruesome photos. And while you weren’t a stranger to the dangers and violence the job brought, you had gotten comfortable with only hearing about it and not seeing it. So you opted to hover around the table and stay silent, you weren’t a trained profiler after all, just a translator.
There was a wave of cologne that disrupted your senses, causing you to angle your head back, only to be greeted by the tall doctor.
You smiled softly, assuming the closeness was due to the aeroplane's arrangement. Also because you got the vibe that Spencer didn’t like you.
“Are you okay? You seem uneasy,” he asked. It was the first time you heard his voice. And it was as adolescent as you imagined for someone so young, but it had a sophisticated edge to it, with a honey-like undertone. Finding things in voices as if they were perfumes was something you unconsciously started to do since working as a translator.
“I’m fine.” You grinned reassuringly, turning back to focus on the team’s findings.
Spencer furrowed his eyebrows slightly and stepped away, sitting down beside Morgan who had taken a seat at the back. Morgan squinted at his friend, noticing the rare confusion splayed on his face as he stared in your direction.
“What’s up? Pretty girl got your tongue?” Morgan removed his headphones with a cheeky smile displayed on his handsome face.
“For someone who specialises in languages she doesn’t talk much.”
Morgan smirked, “Maybe not to you.”
“I didn’t do anything wrong though.” Spencer ripped his gaze off the back of your head.
“You’ve been staring at her since she walked through those doors. You were so distracted you didn’t even greet her this morning.” Morgan pointed out. Spencer tilted his head confused, a small blush creeping up his neck. “I watched the whole thing from the conference room, so did JJ and Emily.”
The tall boy slumped in his chair and forced himself to look out of the plane’s window, avoiding a reply to Morgan as he knew it would only result in more teasing. You were physically attractive, everyone could see that, but the thing that caught Spencer’s attention was your intelligence. He was no stranger to being a polyglot, he learnt languages for fun, but you were simply next level. Morgan studied Spencer’s face for a second before raising his attention to your hovering state. “Agent Y/n L/n.” Morgan called, causing Spencer to widen his eyes and immediately adjust his slumped position in his plane seat. You turned your head in surprise, slightly confused why you would be needed anywhere else than the files you had been translating for the past two minutes. Your heels were silent against the carpeted floors, but Spencer could sense your presence anyways.
“How many languages do you speak?” The stoic man asked, his eyes darting between you and the doctor below you. You were not short, your genes didn’t allow for it, but you had noticed you were only taller than JJ and Rossi in the team and it felt foreign to not tower over everyone. “Um, I speak 8 languages fluently, and 4 languages semi-fluently.” You stated, readying to turn back to assist the team before Morgan spoke up once again
“Did you know that pretty boy can speak Spanish and German?”
Before Spencer could help himself, he corrected the man, “And Latin and Russian,” Spencer turned his head up to you, “But I can understand more.”
You smiled, genuinely impressed and confused on how a man that young could learn that much. But to be fair, you were in the same boat. The nickname got your attention, locking it in the back of your mind to remind yourself that the people you were working with did in fact have senses of humour, and weren’t just heartless officers. There wasn’t any reason to think that though, as you had been cared for with respect and even Prentiss made a funny remark beforehand. It sort of felt like a family dinner you were intruding on. “That’s impressive, Doctor Reid.” You reply genuinely.
“I mean it’s nothing compared to you though,” his voice was pitched slightly higher and his hands started motioning to nothing in particular, “your brain is constantly changing from high activity to low activity when you're translating from one language to another. Your language network, the lateral frontal lobe, is constantly lighting up and dimming down depending on what language you hear, ordinary people’s language networks only turn on and off.”
Morgan smirked and glanced up at your intrigued and surprised expression. You nodded, a small blush coating the tips of your ears as you responded, “Thank you.” You didn’t really know what else to say, which is funny for someone who understands so many languages, so you simply smiled and turned back to the table. Spencer slumped again, watching you walk away and asking himself why he would inform a pretty girl about her own brain, when she most definitely already knows about it.
“Don’t worry too much, Reid.” Morgan called, grabbing Spencer’s attention. The boy raised a brow, not understanding. “She digs it, I can tell. But she’s just like you, knows how to speak in a million ways and still doesn’t know how to small talk.”
You landed without any more awkward interactions, and got introduced to some sheriffs in Maine, one of them giving you a tighter handshake than the rest and a stare that could only mean unpleasant things. It wasn't something sexist or creepy that lingered in his eyes, it was more like hatred. Spencer took the sheriff's attention away from you after noticing what the whole team did, and asked him to show him the records they kept at the precinct.
Emily Prentiss came up behind you and placed a hand on your upper arm, squeezing it like she understood what you had thought you'd seen. Out of everyone else in the team, she would understand the most.

Alliance Normandy SR2 interior redesign: Introduction
The Normandy is a sexy sexy spaceship, but the interior we see is defined by game play: corridors are extremely wide so Shepard doesn't get stuck on the scenery, the crew is sparse because animating crew members takes resources and NPCs are also obstacles Shepard could get stuck on, you need larger spaces for camera angles, etc.
I wanted to see if I could redesign the space to fit a crew of 70–90... ...and I got carried away.
This post covers the rules I set myself and the basic process. Each deck will get a separate post (check back for links):
Intro
Loft
Command deck
Crew deck
Engineering deck
Hangar deck
Design rules
Keep major elements in basically the same places. This is the Normandy as she exists in my fic Sunset & Evening Star, and readers shouldn't have to study a floorplan!
Use only space that's 'available' in the game. If we can access it as the player, it's fair game. If it's a mysterious void in-game, I assume it's full of Important Spaceship Parts and the only access is for ship maintenance.
The elevator shaft is vertical. No Willy Wonka/ST turbo lift shit.
*There are inertial dampeners; if there weren't none of this would work. But as an author I like to imagine that any system can be overloaded.
Step one: Align & scale the deck maps
I aligned the deck maps around the elevator, the only element that shows up on every one. Each is shown at a different scale, so I eyeballed their relationship based on furniture, which is the only thing required to have a relatively consistent size. This is a big assumption; game designers resize whatever they need to! Shepard's bed, for instance, has pillows about a meter square. Presumably they needed room to made the pixel dolls have sex. Shepard's bed can therefore not be trusted, and to a lesser extent neither can anything else.
(There are also floor panels that look a lot like standard 4'x8' construction sheet stock, but A) developers can re-size those as needed without the player noticing, and B) If we're still using imperial units to construct spaceships in 2184 I hope the reapers eat us.**)
**...that said, I used a scale of 1px:2ft to draw this. I'm so sorry. I'm American and I've done construction, it's easy for me to visualize. (The scale was two inches to the pixel, if you're curious.)
Step two: Redesign over the existing space
This is where I saw how much I could fit in the space the game design allowed (given my guesses on scale). Y'know, the fun bit that I thought I'd be spending most of my time doing!
(I was so wrong).
Redesign goals
The Alliance refitted the Normandy for an Admiral. Admirals don't captain their own ships, so I needed to account for an Admiral and their staff as well as the captain and crew.
Align bunks fore-aft, so that the most common major inertial vectors* will hit sleeping crew in the least dangerous direction.
Plumbing should be stacked when possible. (I don't know spaceships but I know about plumbing columns. Glamorous!)
Step three: Adjust to the hull
One modeler figured the ship had to be ~370 meters long to fit the decks as-is, which would leave them using only ~20% of the length. One dev is quoted as saying she's 170m. Fan estimates comparing it with other ships suggest somewhere from 210–230 meters.
The hangar deck is the one*** place the interior aligns with the exterior for certain. The hangar needs to fit two kodiaks in the space between the bay door and the elevator, and each kodiak needs to fit 12 people plus the pilot. Additionally, as the lowest deck the hanger is limited in width by the inward curve of the hull (and that limit changes based on how low you go, which is why the drawing above includes a front elevation).
***Yes, we also see Joker piloting right up in the nose. This is impossible to achieve and also stupid, so I've elected to ignore it.
Sizing it to the smallest reasonable hangar — and after drawing a rather stubbier kodiak — I managed a 194 meter hull; ~217 if you include thrusters. At this size the liveable area takes up just over a third of the hull length. It's still an awful lot of nose, but that nose means 136 meters for the main gun, which for my purposes is still a rail gun (so size matters). Sadly it can't be a hull-length gun; it would run into first the elevator, and then the eezo core.
I did NOT pretend to figure out where the Make Spaceship Go parts are, or the Keep People Alive parts. There's a LOT of 'wasted' space; assume it's all in use and accessible through engineering access-ways, though how comfortable or safe they are is questionable.
———
Thanks to @swaps55 for the amazing high-res screenshots of the game maps, and to @faejilly and @sheepishwolfy for the long-ago talks about crew size that started all this!

Dragon Age: Origins is still great today, and you should give it a try
I want to preface this post with an important disclaimer: I am not about gatekeeping, and I think that ultimately, you should play or skip whatever Dragon Age games you want. If even after this post you feel like Dragon Age: Origins just isn’t for you, that’s fine! That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the Dragon Age media you do want to consume, and it certainly doesn’t mean you’re any less valid a fan. But I personally adore Dragon Age: Origins to this day, and I would love to see more modern gamers give it a chance, despite it being from 2009.
It’s a great introduction to the world of Thedas
Dragon Age: Origins had the tall order of being the first in a potential franchise, yet it climbed those heights and beyond. It perfectly balances the need to explain the world setting and tell a story within that world at the same time, by organizing the plot into puzzle pieces. You, the protagonist, have to recruit different factions into your cause to save the kingdom of Ferelden, so each piece of the game has a different focus on those factions. It spoon-feeds the player information at an easy to understand and absorb pace.
Dragon Age: Origins also makes good use of codex entries for those of you who are big lore buffs and want even more information. Yet at the same time, it does not overly rely on the codex; all the most crucial parts of the lore that you need to know are included in your interactions with characters and plot.
The player gets to shape the story
The nature of those puzzle pieces also means that you have huge control over the story from start to finish, because the puzzle itself is shaped by you! The outcomes of each piece form the blueprint of the climax. The end of the game is reactive to the choices you make in the story throughout. (Mind you, a lot of those choices have been retconned in later games, but still, within the confines of Dragon Age: Origins itself, it’s still fun to see the outcomes of your decisions.)
The story itself is great
I would consider Dragon Age: Origins to have the most straightforward premise of all the Dragon Age games released thus far, with a strong identity linking the different main quests all together. You are a newly recruited Grey Warden, left to unite Ferelden against the big bad Blight after 99% of the Order within the nation is wiped out in a catastrophic battle. You may get caught up in dwarven politics, ancient curses, demonic possession, and plenty more along the way, but no matter where you find yourself, your motivation always falls back to that ultimate responsibility.
The characters are also great
Almost all the companions you’re able to collect along the way are very easy to love, or at least appreciate them for what they are.
Alistair is also a new grey warden. He is struggling with grief over the loss of his mentor, and the weight of having no control over his identity his whole life.
Morrigan is a witch who grew up isolated in the woods with no one but her abusive mother for company. Now she must learn to interact with others, and dependant on the player, perhaps even make a friend, lover… or enemy.
Leliana is a bard from Orlais, whose faith told her to assist the grey warden plight. But beneath the demure outward appearance, she has a much darker past she’s running away from.
Sten is a Qunari warrior who was taught that outside his culture, everything is backwards and nonsense, but he cannot return home until he has restored his soul by recovering his lost sword. Along the way, he may learn to appreciate or despise Ferelden.
Zevran was enslaved by the Antivan Crows as a child and made into an assassin. If the player can chip away at his nonchalant mask, they will find his past has left a lot more scars on him than he thought it safe to admit.
Wynne is a mage from the Circle who is struggling to deal with the nature of age, death, and life purpose.
Shale is a golem who was once under complete and total control by her former master, now learning what it’s like to be free, and wanting to uncover her forgotten past before losing that freedom.
Oghren is there too, unfortunately.
And the player character really feels like they are of your own creation. The choices you make, little and small, offer a lot to shape whatever kind of protagonist you want. Additionally, the benefit of starting the game with a different origin, and playing out that origin before getting recruited into the grey wardens, offers a lot of prompting to get into the roleplay!
The datedness can be easily upgraded with modding anyway
Do you find the combat clunky? There’s mods for that. Do you find the graphics too bland? There’s mods for that. Do you wish you could kiss Alistair as a man or Morrigan as a woman? There’s mods for that, too. Dragon Age: Origins is very easy to mod; most of them you just drop the files into your override folder and start playing. Otherwise, you use the DA Modder app for DAZIP files, which is also not that complicated.
A lot of people consider Skyrim to be dated without mods, too. I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with appreciating the ability to mod a game, as a positive point.
If you want to play, make sure you use LAA though!
Large Address Aware is a must-have on PC for Dragon Age: Origins.
For GoG or EA App/Origin users: You can just run LAA like normal!
For Steam users: You need THIS first

Four "childhood friends" re-connect and re-discover who they can be together...
*text heavy!!!!! I cannot draw & havent made picrews or anything yet

About Mirror's|Reflection
They're a system! Caspian is the host & spends the most time at front. Their origin will intentionally be left ambiguous to prevent The Discourse(tm) from taking root.
The line dividing the two words of their unit name represents a mirror; their unit name invokes what's like to stand between two mirrors facing each other, and seeing countless reflections all around you.
They're a standard-enough band, having a sound that's not dissimilar to leo/NEED - this is likely because they're all musicians and have been for quite some time. A lot of their music is about identity/general "I want" songs, as well as songs about relationships - specifically platonic & familial relationships.
The other members are able to manifest in SEKAI - they can trade off who fronts by passing each other Caspian's cell phone. Depending on who's fronting, the body's eye color & the color of their hair's highlights will change.

Caspian Hooks
Birthday: Oct 17
Height: 5'9.5" / 177cm
Hobbies: Doodling, Swimming
Specialty: Making Flash Cards
Favorite Food: Gummy Worms
Least Favorite Food: Spicy Things
Dislikes: Studying
Caspian is Alice's younger brother. They clashed a lot as kids, but have learned it's okay to rely on each other now that they're both struggling in high school. He plays the guitar, but like Alice, he started out by learning the piano. Caspian finds the ocean deeply comforting, as his childhood home was a short walk from the beach.

Blaze
Birthday: April 7
Height: 5'9.5" / 177cm
Hobbies: Martial Arts, Chess
Specialty: Origami
Favorite Food: Instant Noodles
Least Favorite Food: Sweets
Dislikes: Practice
Blaze has been around second-longest, after Caspian. They were incredibly close as kids but drifted apart and eventually, like the others, he was suppressed. Blaze is short-tempered and is deeply upset at being ignored/forgotten, but more than that, what really pisses him off is when people treat others/the body poorly. He plays the keyboard/synth and actually kinda shreds at the keytar.

Aloe
Birthday: April 22
Height: 5'9.5" / 177cm
Hobbies: Caring for Succulents, Taking Naps
Specialty: Patience
Favorite Food: Melon Bread
Least Favorite Food: Sushi
Dislikes: The Cold
Aloe helps a lot with soothing tensions between band members, as she hates conflict and would like to live in harmony with everyone. She's fairly laid-back, and likes to do things at her own pace, but takes her interests and the band very seriously. The others mainly ask her to front when they're having trouble sleeping. She plays the bass for the band and can also play the saxophone reasonably well, too.

Gail
Birthday: June 18
Height: 5'9.5" / 177cm
Hobbies: Finding Deals, Fashion
Specialty: Studying
Favorite Food: Korean BBQ
Least Favorite Food: Sandwiches
Dislikes: Loud Noise
Gail very rarely fronts, because she is the most uncomfortable with the body's assigned gender. She's indisputably the smartest in the group, so the others often go to her for help with homework and studying; Gail does genuinely enjoy learning things, so she'll often only ask to front if the others are struggling with paying attention in class. For the band, Gail plays the drums, but she's also really good with the viola.

Sekai: Ocean SEKAI
Unit Virtual Singers:
Hatsune Miku: In SEKAI, she's dressed like a pirate, and helps with navigating the ship. She often gets the others into trouble more than she genuinely helps, but things tend to work out in the end regardless.
Otomachi Una: In SEKAI, she helps Miku with ship repairs. Spicy-Una also mans the cannons when various sea beasties attack, while Sweet-Una helps in the galley, although her skill leaves much to be desired.

Niamh Charles x Chelsea! Canadian! Reader
Warnings: fluff, cocky! Niamhy, suggestive.
Masterlist
__________________
You were quite new to the team, only joining the Blue’s side in July, but it felt like you had known Niamh for a lifetime.
You were Canadian, but you grew up in Manchester with your parents, playing in the City Academy before playing professionally for them until your move to London. Because of this, you knew Jessie and Ashleigh well. You grew up playing alongside Jessie at the National Camps, debuting for the Senior team in the same year. Winning the Olympics was a dream come true, especially with girls you have known since you were little.
Manchester City was a dream worth chasing. You were friends with Lauren Hemp, Ella Toone — before and during her move to United — and all the rest. When you found Chelsea interested in you, it was undeniably difficult to say no. While you had grown up in the North, the move down was something that ignited a certain thrill within you.
You met Niamh at your first training session. Jessie had been partnered with you for drills, and you were in the middle of introducing yourself to Guro when the brunette came barrelling in. Her flyaways were barren across her face, cheeks nipped red from the cold weather. Her hands stuffed in her pockets, she nearly tripped you to the ground at the speed at which she ran towards you. You had known her from previous matches against her, both for Canada and City, but something about being on the same team with her felt distinct. Sure, you had admired her beforehand, but it was different now.
“Jeez, Charles, give her some room, will you?” Guro scoffed, playfully pushing the girl back a bit. You watched as she nipped the inside of her cheek, looking at you so intently that you struggled to keep eye contact.
Niamh held out her hand, grabbing yours and shaking it. You could hear Jessie giggling from behind you. “My name’s Niamh.” She announced, continuing to shake your hand. “I’m Niamh.”
Her nervous state was apparent, and Guro was in a fit of laughter at the interaction she was watching.
“Hi, nice to meet you.” You replied, hoping your dismissal of her apprehension would cool the flames in both your cheeks. “I’m Y/N.”
“Nice to meet you.” She gulped, obviously baffled at what to say.
You couldn't help but smile, nodding. “Erm, yes, you too.”
“Fuck, let go of her hand, Charles, you're ‘gonna tear it off.” A voice called from behind. You turned to find the Australian Captain trampling over, slinging a welcoming arm over your shoulder. Her laid-back persona made it easier for introductions. Unlike Niamh, who was a worrying mess in front of you.
“Right, sorry.” The English woman muttered, tearing her hand away and shoving right back in her pocket. Her cheeks seared with an even deeper embarrassment, and you shook off the motion with a tight-lipped smile.
“You’re alright, really.” You smiled, hoping the reassurance consolidated the girl.
It must've, since Niamh gave you a wide smile back, shuffling by your side ever since.
All of the Chelsea girls were lovely. You had no problem fitting into the Grove there. After a few weeks of making scare appearances as a super sub, you became a regular starter for the Blues. Your presence on the field was noticeable, and fans reeled at how you brought more opportunities down the field and into the back of the net.
“Would you be able to give this to Niamh for me, please?” One fan said after a game, handing two matching friendship bracelets with your names on one of them each. Erin was beside you, signing off the posters, when she caught a glimpse of them. Without a second thought, she waved over Niamh, who wasted no time in sprinting towards you.
“Hello.” She spoke, trying hard to discreetly slip her arm around your waist. You leaned into her side, showing her the two bracelets.
“Look how cute.” You smiled, ignoring the way some fans had started recording. You slipped a hand into Niamh’s jacket pocket, holding out the present with your other hand.
Niamh picked up the one with your name on it, slipping it on her wrist and displaying it to the little girl who had made it. “Very cute. I wish we could wear them during games.”
Subconsciously, you put yours (Niamh’s) one on too. The two of you were pretty much hugging at this point. The wind had sent chills through you, your kit doing little to warm you up.
The two of you took a photo with the fan before calling it a day and trudging off back to the changing rooms. You shivered as the wind picked up, holding your arms over your chest tightly as you tried to fight the cold.
Without much thought, Niamh shrugged off her jacket, hauling it around your figure and zipping it up for you.
When you got back to your apartment, engulfing the comfort of your bed after a hard-fought game, you opened up your phone to find hundreds of people tagging your account. You managed to click on the video, smiling to yourself at the sight of you and Niamh huddled together, talking to the little girl with bracelets adorned on your wrists. You clicked on another image, this time a photo, of you blanketed in Niamh’s jumper, your arm wrapped around her waist with one of her’s around your shoulder. The photo was everywhere on social media, including the Chelsea Account.
After a couple more months, you ended up extending your contract until the end of 2027 by Christmas. You loved it there. Your friendship with the team had grown all the more closer. You felt a sense of home and solidarity that you had never felt before.
Your relationship with the team was selfless. Jessie and you had never been closer. Sam and Millie had taken you under their wing, calling you the baby of the group, since you were the shortest between you, them, Guro, Niamh, Erin, and Jessie. Fans had taken a ripe liking to you all over social media. But not just you by yourself, but with a certain brunette in your wake.
You and Niamh had grown very close over the time you spent in London. She wasn't as shy as she made herself out to be when you first met. She was cunning, confident, funny, and easy to be around in any environment. All of your teammates teased the living daylights out of the two of you, especially Niamh, who didn't waste a second in making sure you were always okay.
She would check on you when you went quiet. She always ran to you for partner work during drills, after goals, and when the full-time whistle would blow. The two of you had a habit of huddling together in any setting, holding each other’s hands or waist, cuddling their side or touching you in some way.
Everything you did with each other was full of love and adoration. It was only you two that didn't see your friendship blossom into a relationship. You weren't daft, you knew the speculations surrounding what the two of you were. There was no denying the physical acclimation you had around each other. Hell, Sam sent at least two memes a day about how whenever you were seen together, you were always touching each other.
Over Christmas, Niamh asked you out. She was a nervous wreck, which reminded you all too well of when you first met her. It was after a game, in the changing rooms. She had been given a bouquet of flowers by a group of fans, who told her to ask you out with them. She was reluctant, not only because she didn't want you to feel uncomfortable or pressured by the media to say yes, but the mere fact of ruining the relationship you already had with each other made her hesitant enough.
Of course, you said yes. It was a no-brainer, and after a few more dates you were officially together. It wasn't any more public than before. Only your close friends knew, but the public was already quite content with the PDA you already showed each other before you were dating. The only thing they needed was confirmation, but Niamh and you were happy to keep in vague.
After you said yes, the two of you became inseparable, both on and off the pitch. Niamh ended up extending her contract as well, and the chemistry you built made for an unstoppable case on the field. By the time the season came back after the break, you had moved in together. The happiness both of you felt was indescribable.
Today, Chelsea was up against Manchester United, your old rival team. Ella Toone was one of your childhood friends and was who you were marking. Not only was ManU a competitive, difficult team, but it was a team you were familiar with. They were always pushing in the midfield and up against the forwards. Their chances during set pieces were worrying to any defensive back line. With the combination of Mary Earps and a sophisticated midfield variation, you knew that you were in for a ride.
When Sam did her ACL, people started to underestimate Chelsea’s shot at winning the league. Everyone was starting to wonder whether the Blues were even contestable for the semis. After a poor attempt last week against West Ham for the FA Cup, you were adamant about proving yourself to the people who were doubting your ability to win. You were a midfielder, and while you had masterclasses in the centre field, your stats didn't excel in goals. You had many assists, but never many goals.
You were tying your laces when you felt your girlfriend's arms curl around your waist. You were leaning against your cubby, back facing Niamh. You were slightly bent as your finished the knot in your shoe, feeling the women behind you grasp your hips with a slight squeeze.
“You ready to smash it today, baby?” She muttered, her lips shadowing your ear, sending shivers down your body. You held composure well enough, straightening up and letting her wrap her arms over your abdomen.
“Mh, bit nervous, but yeah.” You replied, relishing Niamh’s pattern of breath. “How ‘bout you?”
Niamh pulled your body to face in front of her, your back now flushed against the wall. You managed to make eye contact with her dilated pupils, feeling one of her hands make their to the back of your neck.
Before she spoke, your eyes filtered down to the fabric that wrapped around her arm, the word ‘Captain’ sprawled across the armband. Niamh watched the way your eyes widened, and how you bit your bottom lip at the sight. Niamh smirked in response, pressing her front into yours so that most of your body was hidden to the rest of the room.
“What's the matter, baby?” She gloated, rubbing a hand up your side. Your cheeks flushed when she refused to break eye contact, holding tranquillity at the sight of your girlfriend as captain. It was a sight you weren't used to, but it was something you couldn't get enough of.
“Nothing. I'm— we should go line up in the tunnel.” Your breath hitched. Niamh was staring down at you while groping your waist.
Neither of you said anything until you were out on the field. You could hear the crowd cheering in anticipation. You shook your opponents’ hands aimlessly, your mind sauntering on the previous sight of your girlfriend.
“Earth to Y/N, hello?” Jessie’s voice snapped you out of your trance. She must've watched you wander to your position in a haze, since she was smirking knowingly at your flushed cheeks. Erin came up behind the two of you, laughing when she caught a glimpse of your state.
“She looks like she's already played the ninety minutes.” The Scottish woman quipped, bringing her hands up to play with your cheeks. You pushed her off playfully, gushing at the ground. “Shut up, you two.”
“God, if this is your reaction to Niamh in an armband, I wonder what Niamh would do if she saw you.”
“Go away, you pricks.” You snapped, flanking them away with your hands, trying to cool your cheeks before the game.
After the team photo, you ran back to your position, jumping up and down as the whistle blew.
The game was inevitably tough, but something had ignited inside of you at the sight of your girlfriend. As embarrassing as it was to admit, you were running up and down the pitch with the one endeavour to make your girlfriend watch you.
Chelsea was controlling the game for the most part, and it didn't take long for Guro to find you inside the box.
The crowd erupted in cheers, your teammates sprinting over to where you stood starstruck. This was one of the scarce amount of goals you had scored that season.
As you were making your way back to the middle, you felt a familiar figure creep up behind you with her hands soothing the tension in your shoulders.
“Making me so proud today, aren't you, baby?” Niamh whispered, running back to her spot in defence before you could reply.
The first half ended as quickly as it started. United had sent a flyer into the back of the net just before the whistle blew. You avoided Niamh like the plague in the changing rooms, knowing you would cave to her touch as soon as she laid hands on you. In any other circumstance, it was you who would tease, but it always ended with Niamh taking over. The two of you were strict in keeping your private life and career separate, but no one seemed to mind your change of game when Niamh was Captain.
You were having an absolute masterclass of a game by the sixtieth minute, scoring your second goal on seven minutes in. Chelsea was now up two-one, and Man U were starting to bring on subs after a close set piece that almost led to a goal.
You made a break down the wing after Lauren sent a cross-over to the field. You sprinted down the line, trying to find a way into the middle. United were tight in keeping you out, and by the time you had made it down the line, attempting to pass it to one of your teammates, you felt a pair of boots collide with your own, sending you face-first fo the floor.
The ball was long forgotten by the ref, who blew the whistle immediately, medics were sent over. While your muscles started to strain at the energy of the game, you didn't feel instantaneous pain from the fall.
You were rolling onto your back, wincing as you got up, when you first heard your girlfriend’s voice boom over the hustle of the crowd.
“Are you alright there, Zelem?!” She scoffed. You watched a smug Katie Zelem trampling off from where you sat. She didn't look like she meant the tackle, but the heat of the game left her feeling less apologetic than usual.
“Oh, let it go, Charles.” Zelem clapped back, walking towards Ella and Millie, who were tense at the sight of Niamh’s uncommon anger. “She's fine.”
“I don't think you understand.” Niamh marched towards her, grabbing the girl’s jersey, and forcing Katie to face her. “You get the fuck off her and the rest of my players. Don't be salty cause we’re winning.”
Katie rolled her eyes at that. “Don't be salty cause your girlfriend can't handle a tackle.”
Erin and Jessie were surrounding Niamh moments later, dragging her away from the United mob and towards you.
The medics have already cleared you to keep playing, and you were already up and ready to go by the time your girlfriends grabbed your hand.
“Are you sure you're okay?” She asked, taking in your flustered appearance. What she didn't know was that you were overwhelmed at the way Niamh looked just then, not by the absolute mouthful of grass you just inhaled.
You could only muster a nod, squeezing your girlfriend’s hand once before slipping away from her touch. You were now hungry for not only Niamh but that third goal. You wanted to prove yourself to everyone that you could do it.
And so you did.
It was a Chelsea corner, and you made the run from outside the box near the open post, where no one had thought to mark. You jumped as high as you could, feeling the ball hit your head in the right direction. You fell to the ground before you knew where the ball was going, letting the movement and relief of the crowd pull you to your feet. You ran to the corner of the field, taking in the shouts and cheers of the crowd and letting your teammates engulf you from behind. The weight of everyone sent you down as more and more girls piled on top of you.
This was your first hat trick ever at Chelsea, and you were relishing the feeling of the euphoria for the rest of the game.
When the final whistle blew, you nearly collapsed from exhaustion. Everything you wanted to go right in the game went right. You were reeling at the win, looking across the field for a particular someone.
“Guess I know what to do to make you score some goals.” Niamh chuckled, grabbing your waist and lifting you into a spinning hug. You gripped onto her and giggled, letting her twirl you around.
“Thanks, Niamhy.” You smiled, gazing up at your girlfriend’s proud eyes. “You looked so good today, baby.”
“You think so?” She asked, though both of you knew she was just egging you on.
“Mhm. Looked so good.”
“You always look good, my stargirl.” The taller girl grinned, looking down at you slyly. Her lips met your ear, her voice sending chills down your spine. “But I guess I’ll need to reward you for doing so well. Show you how good you were for me.”
You didn't get to respond, feeling Jessie pull you away with the Player of the Match trophy shoved into your chest.
You knew you’d see her soon… you were looking forward to it.

Saved you a seat
Pairing: Alessia Russo x Engwnt!Reader
Prompt: “I saved you a seat.”
Masterlist | Woso masterlist | words: 1k
You had joined Manchester United the same time that Alessia Russo had left the club, meaning you never got the chance to properly meet the woman. She was an amazing player, so you were sad to hear that she was leaving the team as you joined but you knew you would meet her soon enough, having been called up for your first national camp starting in about a month.
While you were finding your place within the team, getting to know your new teammates, you noticed that Ella seemed a bit off. You knew that her and Alessia were best friends, and noticed that her leaving the club was hard on her. You tried supporting Ella as best as you could, even being able to help her through some tough moments, the two of you quickly became friends through everything.
It was actually Ella that had introduced you to Alessia when you were playing her new club, Arsenal, back in October. An introduction that led to you falling for the Arsenal player, much to Ella’s enjoyment, claiming that her introducing the both of you to each other was the leading cause of Alessia now being your girlfriend. You couldn’t disagree because she was in fact the one introducing you, as well as the person that was nudging the both of you to confess your crushes to the other. Ella was like the number one fan of your relationship.
Both your Manchester United teammates and her Arsenal ones were aware of your relationship, as well as your new teammates at the Lionesses. A journey you couldn’t be more excited about, now being able to share it with your girlfriend, and your friends. Besides your teammates, and family knowing about your relationship, you decided to keep the relationship private. Both you and Alessia knew all too well how the media and fans could be.
You had just placed your bags in the coach, about to head to your next match. When you walk into the coach your eyes meet Alessia’s sparkling ones, “I saved you a seat.” She says with her signature smile. “Aw, thank you baby, I appreciate it. Are you sure you don’t want to sit with Tooney, though? I know you two always sit together.” She shakes her head, “We talked about it. So, yes, I am sure.” You look around the coach for Ella, who gives you two thumbs up at your questioning look.
Like at every match, the England media team was waiting outside of the coach to film your arrival. You and Alessia both wave to the camera’s and of course to the fans further back as well, before heading into the stadium, getting ready for the match with the team.
Ever since Alessia made the move to Arsenal, the fans have been speculating about some big fall out between her and Ella. Reading too much into every little situation. At first they were concerned for Ella when they, like yourself, noticed she wasn’t looking her usual self but their concern quickly turned into wild speculations claiming something had happened and the two were no longer friends. It had all started up again when England camp started, according to the fans the women weren’t spending as much time together, they weren’t laughing together, or not looking at each other enough. You thought it was annoying how people were assuming so much, when you knew from first hand experience that they were still very much friends. They continued to share a room during the camps, and you spend almost every night watching movies with the both of them.
After the game you decide to relax a bit and scroll on your phone, you were tagged in the Instagram post by the Lionesses of the arrival at the stadium, and some other pictures. You add them to your story, and start reading some of the comments. Comments like, They’re not even sitting on the bus together anymore, Another game without any interaction between Lessi and Tooney, and your favorite How are Ella and Lessi both friends with y/l/n but not with each other? filled our screen. You roll your eyes at the growing pile of comments before you head out to find both Alessia and Ella, to show the comments to them.
“I don’t know about you guys but I am kind of done with all of this.” Ella shared with the both of you. “Yeah, this is getting rather frustrating.” Alessia joined in. “Alright, I have an idea. Y/n, can you please take a picture of me and Lessi?” They pose in front of the Christmas tree in the stadium hallway. Ella starts typing away and shows the final result ‘Rumours are true … we are no longer friends xxx’ before posting it to her story. The three of you have a laugh at the post before heading back to the coach.
When you get back you turn to Alessia, “Hey, before you head back home, wanna have a movie night at my place? Ella included of course.” Alessia smiles, “I would love to, I’d never turn away an opportunity to hang with my two favorite girls. Back at your place the three of you change into some comfy wear and plop down on the couch with a bunch of snacks. Celebrating your win with a fun night.
Alessia loved the picture that she took of the three of your sharing a blanket during movie night. She wanted to post it but also thought maybe it would be too much with the story post from Ella yesterday. “Baby, I think you should post whatever you want and try to not let the fans get into your head.” Ella nods along, “Yeah, I agree fully. Just post it, it’s a cute picture.” The both of you were able to convince Alessia to post the picture. “Okay but tomorrow then. I want them to enjoy Tooney’s message first.”
The next day you smile at your phone when the notification of Alessia’s post shows up on your phone. It was the picture with the three of you along with the caption ‘Movie night with my favorite girls’.
💗 If you enjoyed this fic, please consider leaving a tip 💗

"Greetings, I am Luka from the unit sym-PHONY here at ES. I am the second member and guitarist. It's nice to meet you."
Ruka is the calm and quiet that sym-PHONY otherwise lacks. Despite being the least talkative and most timid of the group, Ruka makes up for his silence with his looks. His charming point is his androgyny and ability to pull off anything he wears. The few times he sings, his voice is melodic and unlike any of the others in his unit. His performances are typically interactive with the other members of sym-PHONY along with the crowd.
His stage name is Luka.
Ruka is a member of sym-PHONY at CORE VEIL.

Van!! since the postseason is slowly approaching its own end i've been wanting to get more into hockey analysis as this is my first full season as a fan and i still have a lot to learn about the game itself. Idk where to start but i feel like out of my mutuals you know a good bit about that stuff so I was wondering if you have any resources you could point me to? books or youtubers etc
Mei rubberpuckies... <3 Can't say I've got every answer but here are some of the places I visit:
Probably the easiest way to start learning is to have the game in motion in front of you and have someone explain it, video content hits that perfectly!
This video covers player roles. Good way to start understanding how each role fits into a 5-person unit. Content meant for new hockey players or players who are young/transitioning into a new role, and no game footage but the colour coded diagrams and explanation was very useful to me!
This guy also makes content meant for hockey players and doesn't post much, but he covers broader tactical concepts (and uses woho clips, which is so cool!). His videos are very digestible!! Short, have diagrams and bullet point slides... just great introductions to stuff like d-zone coverage and forechecking concepts.
Steve Peters used to work with the Coyotes and now runs Inside the Coaches Room. You might've seen some short clips of his content floating around on twt, he breaks down clips from current/recently played games so they're very relevant!! He's doing playoffs content now. I like his hockey for beginners video a lot as a catch-all primer for NHL ice hockey (I have linked the playoffs edition, it's a very good watch)
Hockey Psychology does some scattered tactical breakdowns of games, most recently FLA @ TOR Game 7. Not a huge fan of their clickbait style video titles or thumbnails but hey, whatever gets them noticed!
Simon St-Laurent does video reviews on the big names amongst draft eligible players. He comes to his own conclusions about the players in isolation of the broader game so you kinda have to take that as you will... I think, like everyone who watches a sport for long enough, scouts and prospect writers have their very specific beliefs about how the game should be played and it shows in the way they evaluate players. I like St-Laurent because he has a coherent, consistent framework that he pulls from. Maybe we won't agree all the time, but at least I can kinda understand how he arrives at his opinions.
In the same vein, Elite Prospects run a channel and like to get various writers to make short scouting videos on players. With the multitude of voices your mileage may vary, but I've enjoyed their work!
Kyle MacLennan on twt/x posts short clips of recent games and tends to highlight one aspect that he noticed. I have this man on notifications I'll be honest!! Clips come with no voice over explanation but lots of annotations and freeze frames. His stuff is the most bite-sized, 1-2min clips of games with a short blurb - wish I could be as concise as him <3 his most recent thread highlights FLA's tight checking in Game 7.
Further reading is... idk I don't want to be that guy because I also just got here but it's frustrating how so much high quality content and hockey knowledge is locked behind paywalls. I believe in my heart all writers should be paid for their work. I also know there is an appetite for deeper hockey analysis out there that could grow the game if only they'd let it </3 MAN!!!
I spend real actual dollars on Jack Han's Hockey Tactics books, which he releases every year part way through the season after watching every NHL team play. There are pictures and explanations of how each team runs their system, and this year's edition has an end section with anecdotes from industry people which I loved digging through. You don't have to buy it but if you find that you're really interested in the analysis side of things it's an incredible resource!! He's also on twt/x where he comments on the game and occasionally does little video review, and runs a paid Substack with the occasional free article <- this one I can't afford but ouggghhh when I get more disposable income.......
Beyond general analysis, there are so many blogs and writers that do cover specific hockey teams I don't think I could name them all if I tried. If you go looking for that sorta thing there'll always be some nerd out there obsessively watching tape and writing about it (and sometimes it's Sheng Peng <3)
Love and light but this is getting really long and I don't want to overwhelm you. You aren't the first person to ask about resources and I've been meaning to do a roundup of publications/channels I like to dig through so thank you for dropping by and prompting me!!

"ELVIS FASHION: FROM VEGAS TO WASHINGTON"
ELVIS PRESLEY'S STAGE COSTUME FEATURED IN A FUN CHAPTER OF AMERICA'S POLITICS HISTORY.

Did you notice that after Elvis retired his 1969 stage costumes, he took at least one of them and wore it as street wear? Did you know that this same suit is part of one of the most memorable moments of his life, not only as a musician and one of the most famous personalities in the United States entertainment business but also as an American citizen? Let's talk about how Elvis gave another use to the Black Cossack Top Two-piece suit (AKA Black Herringbone suit) after its debut in a Las Vegas venue in 1969.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: This is a very interesting article I was baking and it took me a while to write. Possible misspellings and typos is a warning I should add in my work from now - and I'm sorry about that but English is not my first language so, I would appreciate if you point erros to me so I can correct them to improve the reading experience for other Elvis enthusiasts that may read it in the future. Anyway, my jaw dropped when I noticed this little fun fact on Elvis' wardrobe, so I had to share this with you. I fear this article is gonna sound a bit like a chronicle, but I hope you enjoy the reading. Hope to see you in the comments box, friends! Here we go.

July 31, 1969. Elvis' opening night at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That was a special night. The very first evening in eight years since Elvis Presley had last performed an actual live concert since the Pearl Harbor Memorial Charity Show on March 25, 1961 at the Bloch Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. Quite the big deal, so let's talk a bit about the significance of those 1969 Elvis concerts before we get to the main topic because, I guarantee you, the things I'm gonna point next only add to the main topic of this article (although I might ramble a bit and it's gonna be boring for the Elvis lovers who already know the facts about this third 'comeback' moment along his career so... feel free to skip this first part if you'd like to).
That evening on July 31, 1969 marked a memorable moment, not only for the King himself and the audience eye-witnessing his opening concert in Las Vegas, but also for music critics, pop culture journalists and enthusiasts, the entertainment world as a whole - including Elvis' pairs, other artists both from the movies and the music industries, almost all of the A-list artists at the time were his friends - not to mention the thousands, millions of Elvis fans spread all over the globe, cheering for what would be received as a sign that, in a near future, they could have the pleasure to see the King in action again - or for the very first time for some younger fans he conquered after the NBC's '68 Comeback Special TV show the year before.
The NBC-TV Christmas special "Singer Presents... Elvis", aired on December 3rd 1968, worked perfectly as a tool to rekindle the flame of passion in old times admirers of the King of Rock and Roll, as well as it served as a glorious introduction of Elvis as a serious musician to new audiences composed then by teens and young adults - who were only babies and children when Elvis was already causing hysteria wherever he went in the 50s. Some sections of that TV show, although including live audiences present as they were filmed, can't be taken as his official comeback to live performances. There were lots of intermissions involved in the process of taping the live concerts segments for that TV special, as you can expect from any film production. Pauses to camera, sound, make up and outfit adjustments resulted in many different takes in their way to achieve the "sit-down" and "stand-up" concerts short cuts that were used in the final product of that unforgettable moment in Elvis' legacy better known as the "'68 Comeback Special" TV show. The breaks during the taping of that NBC music production did not give the audience present, or Elvis, for that matter, the same exciting energy a real live concert could provide, not to mention that the audiences attending the NBC studios in Burbank, CA, on June 1968 for the tapping of the live concerts segments of that Christmas special were very reduced - composed mainly by fan club members, as well as a few members of the press and some of Elvis' own relatives and friends. The majority of his fans, who watched in awe to his initial late 60s live performances through TV screens, were still waiting to see him again in action with their own eyes. The expectation was high, very high. Expectations and anxiety hitting the roof, everyone waiting to find out if that Tupelo boy still had it, if he was still the King of Rock and Roll or the title no longer was worth him and he had left the insane commotion he used to produce in people back in the 50s. The music industry and its audiences in late 60s were exceptionally different from the ones Elvis was used to entertain in person in the 50s and early 60s, which means that in 1968 he had a small taste of what they were like during the '68 Special production time but the control over the audience's reaction, the need to keep things good for what those tapes would look like on television, didn't give Elvis the real notion of the actual 60s audience and what captivated them then. In 1969 he didn't know what to expect from a live audience anymore. Entertainers learn the do's or don'ts of the business while they're working in real time - no pauses, no space to make mistakes. Besides, succeeding in one single TV-show is one thing, but going back on the road for real was a much bigger challenge, specially when you know Elvis was booked to perform at the same stage for an entire month, 30 days in a row. He was older then, the times were different... Critics were expecting him to fail even in the 50s, betting he would be a passing fancy. In 1969 some people still didn't have the faith he could last much longer in the business and keep being as adored as he had before, so the question hanging in the air among all distinct age range music fans then was: "There is still place for Elvis Presley in the 60s youth music? Isn't he too old to be playing 'Rock and Roll' now?" Everybody's eyes were on Elvis onstage in 1969 or the news reports telling how successful his comeback live shows were.
Interesting to note how 1969 was an exciting year for Elvis. He was moved by challenges. He had to prove his worth so many times over the years, and 1969 was another one of those arduous periods in his career where he had people to prove wrong. As we know, he did it. He proved that the years confined in Hollywood sets for the most part of that decade had not caused a slight damage to his awe-inspiring talent as a live performer. Onstage Elvis was visibly excited, jovial, good-humored and bluntly sexy as probably never seen before at all - which was denoted by a bunch of double-entendres X-rated jokes he seemed interestingly comfortable in sharing with the audiences in Vegas now, something he wouldn't dare to in the 50s when he debuted in the Sin City for the two-weeks engagement season at the New-Frontier Hotel in April-May 1956, when he was only a 21 year-old young man, still a bit insecure and taken as an easy target by the square 50s society. As for his looks in 1969, it was amazing how his sex appeal notably increased onstage, but that was known since the TV special. Elvis was always that handsome man but in a time where aging was much more than nowadays taken as "the end" for artists, a family man and father as Elvis was (maybe too much for what a Rock and Roll star represented), 34 year-old Elvis was on his prime in 1969. By all accounts, Elvis looked superhuman both in talent and image.

Now we get to the goodies.
For his comeback, Elvis' tall and trim figure was enhanced by solid-color tight-fitting suits. They weren't yet the phenomenal handmade embroidered/bejeweled jumpsuits that would add another layer to the amazement of watching Elvis' live concerts in a year and a half ahead on the road but still... they impressed the audience. The solid-color matching top and bottom pieces with their designs inspired by karate uniforms, delivered modest elegance. Solid colors, long lines, barely noticeable embroilment. Perhaps we could look at those 1969 two-piece suits as part of the cleanest version in Elvis' fashion style onstage... even the 50s suits were flashier than those late 60s ones.
The first stage costume to debut in that new era of the King's career, on that July 31st 1969 evening, was the Black Cossack Top Two-piece suit (AKA Black Herringbone suit). As accessories, a black karate-style belt that also featuring the herringbone pattern, with long fringes on both ends. A silk black scarf with blue and white stripes, completed the look in a moment of his life where all the jewels and shine that would mark his mature caricature as the most famous musician in the 20th century were yet to come. Some fans prefer the 1969/1970 nonchalant elegance from his stage-wear.

Elvis retired the Herringbone suit from the concerts sometime in 1970 when his stage costumes wardrobe had been already almost entirely reformulated for the following performances. After the Las Vegas opening engagement in August-September 1969, Elvis would be back onstage only the next year for another Las Vegas season at the International Hotel in January-February 1970. From the previous season, apparently the only suit still put to use was the White Cossack Top Two-piece (That's not an official information. Given the lack of documentation in pictures - unfortunately a constant among the many concerts held in Las Vegas - it's possible the Black Cossack suits - yes, there were two of them! - could have been worn again at least for the first engagement season in Vegas in 1970. However, no more than that). Quickly Elvis' modest stage-wear would be replaced by more eye-catching detailed suits that were, from then on, mainly in white, as the Broquade ones and the ones we know too well from his August-September 1970 engagement season at the International Hotel, as the Fringe suit, the Concho suit and the Red Ladder, all featured in Elvis' first documentary film "Elvis: That's The Way It Is".
Elvis was always looking for ways of how to improve his performances and make his shows better. The reason why Elvis' white suits collection in 1970 surpassed that of dark suits one, almost certainly, is because Elvis and his crew figured the dark-colored fabrics weren't as helpful as the light-colored ones on letting people spot him with ease if they were watching him from a certain distance to the stage. That was something he learned from being back on the road. Different from the Las Vegas venues with its limited space showrooms, the arenas where Elvis performed around the US were much more spacious, allowing over 10000 fans to attend his concerts, a considerable larger number than the mere 2200 people the International Hotel allowed in seats.
🏆 Talking about attendance, that 1969 opening season at the International Hotel granted Elvis the famous Gold Attendance Belt, a belt he wore proudly on and off-stage for many years. The belt was an award, given to Elvis by the hotel's management in recognition for his record shattering attendance achievements: 57 SOLD-OUT CONCERTS... IN A ROW. That belt is also important in this article.

August 28, 1969: Elvis received a gold belt from Alex Shoofey immediately after his final show – the buckle reads 'World's Championship Attendance Record - International Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada."
Alright, so, onstage from 1970 on, the King was more keen of light-color suits. Off- stage, however, the dark colored suits were still part of his fashion preferences - and he wouldn't change that. That's when the Black Cossack suit was put to good use again.

Phoenix, Arizona, on September 9, 1970.
In the moment the pictures (1-3 above and 1 below) were taken, Elvis had just finished another engagement season at the International Hotel in Las Vegas (Season 3, the one from which the footage featured in "Elvis That's The Way It Is" were captured. That season ran from August 10th to September 8th 1970), and then he was about to embark on his first road tour since returning to live performances.
The first concert out of Vegas venues (not including the Houston Astrodome, Texas, concerts in February-March 1970 in the account because they were a distinct deal), was on September 9th 1970, held at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ (8:30 pm). For that concert Elvis wore the Fringe suit onstage. By then, the Black Cossack suits were no longer an option for live concerts, but they were not abandoned by the King, as mentioned.
Now comes the most interesting part.

In 1970, Elvis Presley added those black suits from his official "comeback" shows to his personal wardrobe. There's a few observations I'd like to make about that. From that choice we can get how serious Elvis took his artist status. According to close friends, EP liked to dress up even when he was at home, simply because when people looked at him, they were expecting to see "Elvis Presley, the King"... therefore, he didn't want to disappoint them by dressing poorly. Elvis was so careful with his image that even his smiles were calculated to cause a certain reaction on people. The other day I heard Priscilla, his ex-wife, answering questions from fans on her Instagram page. She was asked "Why you don't smile much in pictures?" Her answer was something like: "Probably because of something that Elvis said. He used to say not smiling would give you a sexier look in pictures." Anyway, The King would always dress to the nines, rather he was going to make music in recording studios, present himself to work in film sets in Hollywood, perform live, vacation in Hawaii or simply trying to unwind taking a well deserved "resting" time home in Memphis. That's fair game if you remember how Elvis often visited with the fans whenever he saw them. Regardless of the pauses between tours when he could take it easy and just relax, Elvis appreciated his fans' efforts in spending hours hanging outside his places, recording studios and so on. He knew and valued how they were sincere in their love, standing for hours under sun or rain in the open, hoping to catch a glimpse of him just casually walking, horseback riding or playing with his friends and family inside his properties grounds. It was not like he could escape candid photographers anyway so, at least he wanted to be portrayed in all his glory. Elvis was always the King, on and off stage, practically 24/7 - whenever he was awake. The boy from Tupelo turned into a indistinguishable public persona. Anybody could recognize him from miles away, specially in the 70s with his elegant wardrobe choices. Wearing the same suits he wore onstage, the same suits that were displayed in magazines and news attesting his imperious comeback in 1969, helped quite a bit in that matter, if you think about it. That makes the choice to bring some of the dark retired stage costumes into his daily life even more interesting. Now, the next pictures in which Elvis is seeing wearing the Herringbone suit off-stage, are quite fun. To think they are the most required pictures of Elvis Presley among the endless photographs taken of him from the 50s until the end of his lifetime! And, the whole point of this article is here. YES: the same suit debuting with Elvis onstage for his comeback season to live performances in 1969 was also with him inside the White House.

On December 21st 1970, Elvis Presley visited the President Nixon at the White House in Washington, D.C. This is one of the most famous stories involving famous characters in the U.S. History. Take a closer look at the pictures and you'll see that the second layer of clothes on Elvis' upper body is precisely the top of one of the Black Cossack suits. Can you see the herringbone pattern there?

SECRET REASONS FOR THE OUTFIT CHOICE?
AUTHORS NOTE [2]: I'm gonna ramble on the possible reasons for Elvis' attire choice that day in December 1970. None of this is factual, just a fan's speculation. I'm purely reading between lines here but I wanted to share my thought with you.
There are only two possibilities, friends: RANDOM OR CONCIOUS DECISION.
1° scenario: As we know, that wasn't a visit planned in advance. Elvis suddenly decided he wanted a Narcotics Agent badge so bad he would fly to Washington to try to get one. His personal life was a mess, his marriage was at the verge of ending and his father was all over him about what he considered a poor use of his fortunes, the way Elvis was spending his money at that time with lavish gifts to friends and random strangers sometimes too. He needed a win - and there he was on his way to Washington to get it. It's more reasonable to think there wasn't really a deep thinking on which outfit he would wear that day but, if that is the fact, we still have to think Elvis did think at least a bit of planing his outfit for the occasion. Remember how every account points to Elvis being extremely careful with his looks? Imagine Elvis picking his outfit that day. The most casual thought I can imagine him having is: "If the outfit is good enough for my comeback in Vegas, it is good enough for the White House." Period. He focused more on his speech to the President of United States than on his wardrobe choice and put his Nation's biggest authority in more or less the same level of importance of his own fans, which is cute - for us. Why would he dress better for the President than he dressed for his fans, right? They were everything to him and more, by all accounts. But there's the 2° possibility: The Black Two-Piece Herringbone suit combined with the Gold Attendance Belt actually meant something special to Elvis, as a kind of good luck charm, per say. Those pieces were not as any just another outfits in his wardrobe. They were involved in one of the most glorious moments of the then most recent part of his career. Perhaps they brought him some kind of energy, serving him as a confidence boost or something.
I think Elvis didn't do things by chance. He planned his moves. His outfit choices were not just a matter of being seen but, primarily, a matter of feeling confident in his own skin. Elvis used fashion purposefully... for instance, hiding his neck out of a personal insecurity with his body from his childhood years (which unintentionally created a fad with the high collars). Thus, it's reasonable to imagine that the outfit Elvis wore on December 21, 1970 combined with that special accessory was a conscious choice. The Gold Attendance Belt was an achievement award Elvis took pride from and were often after being seen with, and the Black Herringbone suit, practically identical to the one he opened the season at the International Hotel the year before, from which that special golden belt award would come resulting for his hard work and dedication to entertaining audiences, certainly marked a special day for him. Isolated as part of other outfit combinations those pieces don't look like hiding their intentions, but when put together maybe they brought Elvis a special energy that served as a mental reminder of who he was in a moment where self-confidence was extremely necessary to increase his persuasion tactics. I mean... Elvis had too many clothes, why wearing the Black Herringbone suit that day? By chance? Maybe he wore the exact suit to help him in that challenge ahead, like an armor serves a knight... sort of. A tool. I guess nobody would think it would be easy to convince the President of the United States that Elvis Presley was a law agent material other than just a remarkable musician, much less himself. I guess even the King needed something to make him believe in himself sometimes.
Again, just speculation. As far as we all know, the Black Herringbone suit was a random choice Elvis made on the day he met President Richard Nixon. The whole point of the article is pointing out he was wearing the suit there as he was on his comeback live performance in 1969.
There. Another layer of fun was added to that remarkable moment in the America History.

Just to explain better, in the pictures above Elvis is wearing the top of the second version of the Black Cossack suit. There is a difference between the two costumes, almost imperceptible at first glance. The second version of the costume had a small improvement in the stitching of the herringbone pattern on the chest area.

"The Black Cossack Top Two-Piece (2) is a black two-piece suit that initially appeared identical to the Black Cossack Top Two-Piece (1). However, upon closer inspection, notable difference becomes evident. The Herrinbone design in the chest for the second suit actually is stitched at the end of the chest to keep the garment from opening."

To end this article with another fun fact on Elvis' stage costumes, I could trace a parallel between the Herringbone suit with the time when Elvis did the opposite move with another of his outfits. Instead of bringing an outfit from the concerts into his street wear wardrobe, he took a casual outfit and brought it onstage with him. On August 19, 1975 in Las Vegas, the Two-Toned Street suit (AKA Penguin suit) made his debut and retirement from the stage lights at once. Rumors are Elvis was late for the concert and just walked into the stage with the suit he had on at the time. He had several different two-tones suits. The second picture below shows EP wearing that suit in a casual setting.

Reverse 1999- The Avant-Garde Rpg

R1999 is in many regards an Avant-Garde take on the gacha game genre. Everything from it's presentation to story telling is in stark contrast to its comptemporaries. Like many other fans, my first introduction to the game was the iconic trailer that came out prior to the global release. I was watching a random YouTube video when suddenly an ad pops up. I normally skip ads as soon as possible, but this one caught my attention immediately. All the R1999 trailers have a bombastic cinematic style that makes viewers feel like they're watching movie. Hearing Vertin talk cryptically about " the storm" while dramatic music played in the background made me curious just what exactly this game was about. Interlaced with all of that were images of a little girl in a tattered red dress sadistically shooting people and... a talking red apple? I knew right then that this game was something else.
When first playing the game, players slowly start to learn about an apocalyptic event refered to as the storm which erases entire eras of history. Those caught in the storm are wiped from existence. Humanity's only hope is the St Pavlov Foundation and their Arcanist agents. Opposing them is a group of Arcanist terrorists called Manus Vindictae who wish to use the Storm to serve their agenda. It takes a while for the story to build up steam.
The beginning of the story is hard to follow due to how vague and cryptically it's told. A lot of terminology is used that players won't understand until later. Once the plot begins the thicken, players are presented with a surealist supernatural mystery conspiracy thriller unlike anything you've seen before. The story is intricately written and brings up a lot of historical and scientific concepts along the way. It's not the kind of story you can just speedrun through to get to the gameplay. Each chapter segment is fairly long and dense with information. It's honestly like playing a visual novel rather than an rpg. I'm not complaining though. I've been gripped by the lore since day one and I never know what these writers are cooking up next.
The best part of the game for me is the character roster. It's can't be exaggerated just how unique the characters are. What other game has living scarecrows, a mini UFO, a girl who hiccups balloons and a sapient piece of glass as playable characters? Its clear that just about anything can be an Arcanist in this world. I thought having inanimate objects be characters was weird at first, but I soon grew to love the idea. It was just too ludicrous not to enjoy. I also love how tastefully the female characters are drawn. Everyone either wears time period appropriate casual clothes or the most ornate pimped out dresses you've ever seen. The character designs are conservative yet stylish, creating incredibly rememberable units. These beautiful appearances are complimented by eccentric personalities. All Arcanists have their little quirks that make them endearing. They're strange people living in an even stranger world.
The true cherry on top on all of this is the stellar voice acting. The cast is composed of characters from all over the world and the voice cast reflects this. Most of the voice actors share the same nationality/ethnicity as their character which gives their performance an authentic edge. The large variety of accents makes the world feel alive with personality. In a market where usually only the most high profile gacha games bother with English dubs, it's refreshing to see the producers put so much passion into the voice overs.
In terms of art and presentation, R1999 knocks it out of the park once again. The insight 2 character portraits are immaculately drawn and bursting with details. The background art for the story section is also drawn with enough depth to get players immersed in the setting. The live 2d models help spice things up a bit instead of having to look at a still image the entire time.
Reverse 1999 isn't just some game to pass the time with. it's a clear labor of love for everyone who worked on it. It's always a pleasure to play a game where the devs are passionate about their creation.
